Why Resident Evil is still a success over two decades later

AppTrigger: "Looking back at the ups and downs of the series, the limited reach of survival horror as a genre and the fact that so many of its contemporaries have come and gone, the perseverance of Resident Evil becomes a significantly more peculiar curiosity."

Because its a survival horror game not a third person shooter

DarkOcelet1958d ago

Because every game in the series feels different and unique whether that's a good thing or not is up to personal preferences but I really feel that this change is what made the series feel fresh and unique to this day. It's amazing how many people I ask about what their favorite Resident evil game is and everyone will have a different answer.

^ And this is coming from the Anti-Fixed Camera / pre-rendered backgrounds OG RE games , like i said before this is what happen when you allow casuals to have opinions about RE franchise and FC style

-Foxtrot1957d ago

Really? The most I hear people say they like the most is usually between RE1-3 or RE4

The amount of people who say they like RE5-7 over the older titles are slim in comparison and it's not surprising those games have nothing over the older ones. RE just lost it's magic but thankfully it seems Capcom has found it again with the Resident Evil 2 Remake which looks like a return to pure survival horror while actually making it feel like a true RE game.

Oh you will be surprised how many people love for instance Resi 6 but despise Resi 5,4 and vice versa or the original Resi 1 over the Resi 1 Remake or Resi 3 over Resi 2 etc etc. I find that really interesting. Hell, i know people who love Operation Raccoon City the most lol.

Also in my opinion, Resi 7 was amazing and true to the franchise but it just needed more content and extra modes like Mercenaries or Raid mode. Again, this shift between games is what makes the franchise as a whole unique in my opinion and I would love for them to continue that as long as the games are good.

If you like to surrounded yourself by untrust worthy individuals how make up their decisions based on loud noises from time to time you are a part of this problem , changes doesn't happen by coincidence , there's how and why it happened at specific times and how they manage to "push" it as a company , you don't look at it "critics" wise and ignore it .. you have no idea how shady and strategic Capcom marketing is before RE7 launched , you should refresh your mind and see what cause this force positivity about it .. search for " Resident Evil 7 VHS Promo " on youtube and see the results by yourself .
oh and while you at it :

I love resident evil. All of them are good in their own way (yes, even re6, which sucked (gotta love how campy it was though, and the crazy amount of unlocks, and I know people that swear by that games the mercenaries mode).

For me, RE7 was too short. But if the mansion had been bigger it would have been perfection.

And lastly, graphically, I feel like RE pushes the envelope. I remember RE5 blowing me away (looking at you Chris’s biceps). And RE7 did the same for me. So much environmental detail.

And lastly through it all. I don’t know how to explain it. But every time. The games are just so fricken cool. The one liners. The characters. Working you’re way from lowly weakling to infinite bullet badass. How each game evolves from terror to domination.

This series is unparalleled.

(RE4, RE remake, RE2 are top for me)

I know I’m in the minority but I really enjoyed RE: Revelations 1;it had that classic feel to it. If you had a friend to play with RE5 was awesome. RE4 is a classic. RE6 was trash. RE7 literally revived the series and capcom like it or not.

Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica Remakes are reportedly in the works, not Resident Evil 1

Industry insider Dusk Golem reveals that there is no Resident Evil 1 Remake in the works. Instead, Capcom are reportedly in active development of Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica.

-Foxtrot1d 4h ago

RE Zero would be better to do first over RE1 because they can tie the story into RE1 more.

The original RE Remake was weird because Rebecca never mentioned anything about what happened in Zero and it felt so disjointed because Zero was developed during the Remake and they clearly didn't share any notes with one another.

Wise decision. 2 of my favorites!

TGG_overlord7h ago

And all it took was +24 years + a phone call from me lol.

The prevalence of parrying: Why is it so popular?

Parrying has been creeping into more games, with almost every high-profile title of the last few years featuring it in some way.  Why?

i understand the authors frustration i'm not the best at parrying in games. not that i can't complete a game that requires it but it is a definite harder thing for me than other kinds of techniques in games. which might be the main reason it's so heavily added in games nowadays. want to make your game challenging without having to do a lot of work? just add a parry boss. (what i mean by parry boss is a boss you have to beat by parrying such that their attacks will kill you otherwise)

Dudeson67d ago (Edited 67d ago )

I always think it's fine as long as such games also have the roll/dodge panic button. But I understand the will to parry, it seems so cinematic in a fight when you pull it off.
