It's literally the same as any other article. Top ten badass, top ten quirky, top ten whatever.

It's expected there would be something different about these games so pointing them out for alternative lifestyle people isn't a big deal to me.

There are tons of alternative scenes so aggregating everything for them isn't a huge deal. If we were saying top ten punks I wouldn't be so offended.

And more attention? That's rich considering the percentage of games and articles this covers. Snowflakes like you get offended for anything.

What make you think that one of the world class developers out there didn't design characters with any story behind there them?
Don't you think they have a set plan in place to keep fans interested for upcoming contents?

The fact that the base game is packed to the brim of well thought out lore, not something a lot of first person multiplayer games do and they had to confirm things like this in interviews or confirming it further in a comic down the line just as it coincidently was being speculated on Tumblr...speculation that just came out of nowhere, nothing from the game and was basically "because I think she is".

You know...just a few hunches.

I do take some issue with the choices here, because I don't believe that they are actually very good representations.

Tracer's sexual preference has no bearing on Overwatch "story" whatsoever. Not even their personality in the game. I'm curious why it's so praised or how people relate to the character. It seems they related more after it was made known, than before. The character's sexual preference and story only exist in supplemental material. Whether this was ever known means nothing to anything, so it seems like projection to give praise to a character in the game itself just to have a character to praise. Outside the game itself she may be a great character. But that's like saying mario is a great plumber just because supplemental material says it is. Nothing in the games would prove that.

I hate this kind of praise for things that are inconsequential.

Liara from ME wasn't bisexual. Her race is not sexual in the way that humans are, and their sexuality is more spiritual and fluid than what humans experience. Their notion of gender is much different than humans. If anything they're asexual, although capable of physical intimacy.

Ellie's sexuality wasn't really defined, even in Left Behind. Even when Druckman made her sexuality clear, nothing in TLOU pointed to her preference, and in Left Behind, I could see the scene being perceived as an intimate moment between friends, and not something about sexual preference. Druckman ruined that scene with his statement IMO, as TLOU had many moments which were left open for interpretation. Bill would have been a much better character to use, because he was defined, albeit subtlety, and it was shown in a very real way that showed him as a normal person you could relate to on a human level, and not on a sexual preference level. I do think that since she's homosexual though, that ND will probably handle it well. They've done pretty good with that stuff so far. Not sure I'm into the more manly look she has for the new game. But haven't seen enough yet, and maybe just like the cute innocent teen she looked like in the first game, which was contrasted by her personality and actions.

Steve Cortez was one of the most bland character I've ever seen. His whole character existed to have a gay character. All he did was cry over his lost love. He had no real reason to be there, and he was shallow and boring. To say he was one of the best is a disservice to what those wanting LGBTQ characters in games actually want. It seemed a great disservice to give Bioware praise for putting this character in when it was pretty apparent they did so just for the sake of having a gay character. It was the perfect way to show what a forced character feels like, both in reason and execution.

Chloe from LIS sexuality I believe exists only to give the player some modicum of choice. Her place in the story is nothing more than a set piece for the player themselves. Her sexuality isn't defined by design. Again, to say they're a favorite is just looking for a good character to be able to attach the label to. Even the author admits this, so it makes me wonder how they're one of the best lgbtq characters in games.

I also question why Mass Effect and Borderlands made this list a couple times. ME sexuality is pretty lame overall, even the heterosexual stuff. Borderlands I can't speak of as much, but surely, there are more games out there to pick from.

Of all the recent gay characters in games, I think he was one of the best written characters. Not because he was gay, but because he was so well written and thought out. He had his own story, and they gave back story, and only alluded to his sexuality. He was a person, and he was relatable because of that. To me, that's the best way to represent anybody. Represent them as a person, and people will empathize. I didn't even pick up on his sexuality in my first play through. When I realized it on my 2nd, it just blew my mind how well they made his character. It wasn't forced, and they pretty much showed what I've been saying for years....that one's sexuality doesn't define them as a person, and in a broader sense, you shouldn't judge someone based on it, because Bill was a likable character despite him being kind of an a**hole.
