The way this route is going, is either pc or p5. I hope sony allows pc stuff next gen. But if they stay closed again ill try out pc and when p5 is cheaper ill get that for the exclusives, seems like pc is sounding pretty compared to everything right now. (Id get it for vr,imo of course)

LeeFender2228d ago

We shall see. I am more interested in seeing what MS will do and how they will counter Sony in the future. This is their chance.

Yeah, I agree 100% definitely a competition to watch out for

Kingthrash3602227d ago

Been watching for 5 years...done watching.
Only counters MS has done was make their consoles cheaper send make halo, gears and forza. Clearly the same old thing isn't competing.

Babadook72227d ago

Forget Polaris. Forget Vega. This thing has Navi! Most powerful console ever. So much for 1X bragging rights.

fr0sty2227d ago (Edited 2227d ago )

Just a thought... Let's say that 11TF with a Ryzen CPU (for a dedicated machine, this is pretty damn powerful) is the target spec. 2018 release sounds insane, right? Well, if they are changing the model up a bit, maybe not as much.

Those specs in a machine released today would cost upwards of $1000, as some others have pointed out. Sony could opt to take a small loss per console sold, subsidizing it knowing software and plus subscription sales will help offset the loss. So, $600-800 for a PS5 launching this year at those specs. That puts it well out of reach of most gamers except the enthusiasts who can afford that sort of thing, so how do they keep it from being a total flop?

One ecosystem. Forwards and backwards compatibility, going across 2 generations. Developers take bigger risks because they don't have to reset the install base every generation, their games work on the last gen console as well, and therefore the wave of crappy launch titles with maybe one or two good ones doesn't happen anymore.

On the technical side, there are a few issues to work out, but it is nothing that developers have not been doing in the PC gaming space for decades, on a much larger scale. If they can make their games work on a host of laptop and desktop devices each with a wide variety of components from a wide variety of manufacturers, they can make a 2 generation cross compatibility, with all hardware being from the same vendors and only 3 target systems to keep in mind, work. Once PS4 hits a certain age (sony has always supported their consoles for 10 years), developers should be free to stop targeting it, and to use PS4 Pro as the new minimum spec platform.

Console gaming is changing, and more frequent updates are likely to become a thing just like the Pro and X have already demonstrated. This may be the new way to go about it. I still think that next year is more likely, but we'll see.

2227d ago
conanlifts2226d ago (Edited 2226d ago )

This is the bigger question. MS have certainly under delivered with their games this gen. Even halo and gears have been scarce. Last gen saw 4 new gears games and 3 new halo games, whereas we will be lucky to get 2 of each on Xbox one. As an Xbox fan i hope they turn it around.

ZombieKiller2226d ago

The entire span of the last 2 years has "been their chance" but I don't think it will happen. Sony has ALWAYS been about the games, and if you aren't on board like they are, you're gonna have a bad time. MS had to find this out the hard way, and although they did a 180, it was a bit too late. Plus, Sony hit their stride with the PS4, it's amazing and isn't going to stop at this point. Just look at the exclusive lineup this year ALONE.

Sorry but I'm going with whatever system has the bast games and you would be lying to yourself if you said anything other than Playstation....let's be real.

If not, God of War, Spiderman, TLOU2, Days Gone and a few others say hi. Games so good, that I would pick them over any resolution, any day.

ABizzel12226d ago

Allegedly Sony is making a PlayStation TV, which is a 4K HDTV that has PS4 components built into it.

We'll see if this come to fruition, because it seems very niche, but interesting nonetheless.

joab7772226d ago

I fear that they are so far behind on first party titles that it may hurt them at the launch of next gen too.

@Sam Fisher - I'm gonna sound like an ass but you have no idea. How is Sony closed? Architecture? Crossplay? A console by definition is closed architecture, Sony has crossplay with PC and has a longer history of doing so.

Yes we do have the topics in mind but it usually depends on what happens during that week in terms of industry news or possible leaks/talks (reply to Ulitharid)

ApocalypseShadow2227d ago (Edited 2227d ago )

Interesting discussion but some of the views about things in the game industry are ridiculous in my opinion.

PS5 should have BC but not this forward/backwards compatible nonsense. New machines should allow better physics, animation, particle effects, lighting, A.I. and characters on screen. Limiting it to what the previous console cpu can do hurts game design. Because all you'll get is prettier graphics and not bigger and better games unless it's single player. you see it now with Pro and X. They have more power but can't use it because games have to play the same across all versions of consoles online. Breakaway is good.

MS did play anywhere because they had low sales of software on Xbox compared to what Sony was selling on PS4. It wasn't to be "consumer friendly." They weren't making back their investment. And to sell what MS always tries to sell. Which is windows and always windows.

Asking Sony to release their games on pc is also ridiculous. Exclusives matter for a reason. It's like asking any company to release their products and services on a competing platform. Ask apple why they don't put siri or iTunes on android. Sure, they might get more users. But what is the point of selling exclusive hardware then?

Ask MS why they don't release their games on PS4 and Switch? Isn't that "play anywhere?" What makes pc special that it has to have Sony's titles on it? Because of more power? Now that's arrogance to assume pc deserves Sony and Nintendo's titles on it because it can possibly run the games. But not ask pc gamers to buy a console for its games.

Remasters and remakes. Are they cash runs? Sure. But some never played the originals. And two, maybe the developers wanted to do more with the game but were limited by the hardware at the time. Makes sense?

One of the guys calling Sony arrogant for not playing ball with their competitor with cross play is beyond funny. It's Sony's hardware. 3rd party developers don't have a say in how Sony's runs its business or online network. PS4 already does cross platform play with pc and did it first. 3rd parties don't have to release on PS4. And lose money doing it.

"But but, you should be able to play anywhere with your friends." Again, it's like telling Sony to cut down their hardware sales and PS ecosystem. If it's less a point to buy Xbox if you can play MS games on pc,then it's less a point to buy a PS4 for its exclusives and 3rd party developers who support Sony if you can play anywhere else without buying their hardware. It's like "duh!" Some of the points make no sense. Someone has to make the hardware. But pc doesn't deserve everyone's software. Destroying console gaming and exclusives will hurt the industry and plug and play.

LeeFender2227d ago (Edited 2227d ago )

PS5 having BC doesn't mean the CPU will be limited, not sure where you got that from.

We never asked Sony to release games on PC and follow Microsoft's strategy, it was just a speculation/assumption if they would follow such strategies or not if the next Xbox proves successful, ridiculous or not.

1st true cross-platform play title was actually Rocket League on Xbox because you could play against PC and Nintendo Switch users and vice versa on both of each of the platforms. Street Fighter 5 was only PC/PS4 and it's the only game on Sony that does that. Microsoft also wanted to do Xbox One and PS4 cross-platform and Sony did not allow it due to their arrogance.

Again we never said "you should always be able to play with your friends again" I think you're misinterpreting a lot of the ways we speak. This was NOT a wish-list podcast, this was a speculation discussion.

As for the remasters lol again you did not listen properly, we did not say every remaster is a cash grab, we stated which remasters we enjoyed and which ones we think do not deserve a remaster or is a cheap cash grab. It almost seems like you're only hearing the things you do not like. Not trying to be rude here or anything just trying to set the points straight on what actually we said, cause what your claiming is not true.

Overall, thanks for listening and giving your honest opinion. Much appreciated - here is a vote up for you.

therealmacoy2227d ago

Why should Sony be forced to help their competitors? Microsoft only wanted cross platform play because it would make buying a game to play with friends viable. If I buy my game on xbox, i can still play with my friends and the playstation ecosystem. If Sony did that, it would have been the dumbest business move they could have made. By not doing so, they only increase the odds of people buying a Ps4 if they want to play with their friends /playstations vast ecosystem of gamers. This is why the average person can't run a business lol. Think before you speak.

tontontam02227d ago Show
bigmalky2227d ago (Edited 2227d ago )

DC Universe is cross-platform and was one of the launch titles for PS4, so the Street Fighter info you provided isn't fact.

Also, Sony asked MS for cross-platform in the PS3/360 gens and MS refused, so to call Sony arrogant, is to say the same about MS and Sony's choice would rather be seen as just desserts, rather than arrogance.

I think you need to research more before making statements that sound biased if you want to be taken seriously.

ApocalypseShadow2227d ago

And that right there is where we disagree. Like the real macoy said, Sony is a business. They want you to buy their hardware and possibly buy their software. Would cross play be cool? Sure. But this isn't a one console, one hardware utopia. These companies are competing for your dollar.

You think Sony is being conceited. When Sony is just trying to sell hardware and make money. Saying yes to MS means gamers that were interested in PS4,no longer need to because they can still play and join that ecosystem without buying the hardware. That's why MS said no last Gen. Sony only said it to cut into MS sales. Why buy a 360 when you can still play with them on PS3? You need to learn business and strategy.

As for your speculation, Sony don't need to follow MS's business model if the current one is working for them. MS's model is to sell services and windows os. Sony don't have an os they're selling. They're selling exclusive hardware with exclusive software that they want you to buy. Putting games anywhere else like MS cuts into hardware sales. It's why Sony allowed streaming to other products, but *you still had to buy the hardware and software* to do it with remote play.

You guys did talk about those games as cash grabs. I'm just saying why a company would release those games again. Nothing more.

But you need to learn what arrogance actually means and understand its definition.

JMyers2227d ago

How is Sony arrogant to block cross platform with Xbox? It only supports MS. Sony wants their own eco system. I am not saying I agree with it, but as a strategy it's help sells PS4s. If you have an Xbox, and I a playstation, and you want to play online with me you'll have to buy a PS4. Not a PC or crossplay between consoles. It's a business strategy. Not arrogance. What's arrogant is "games as a service". Like if this is what the industry needs. More paid services.

showtimefolks2226d ago

Maybe if you have been a gamer for more than a decade you would know Sony pushed got cross play but ms refused

Ju2227d ago

I agree with all you said but the forward/backward compatibility. I think we are out of that "dedicated" cycle now. The performance is high enough, that even PS4(s) will run those games - scaled down. There is no reason why game design demands the power to fulfill their vision. This is an age old problem and game designers are never happy with what they got. But it's an excuse to be unable to execute their vision if they focus on technology. Focus on your ideas and let the engineers implement it works best in almost all cases.

11TF could for example utilize some raytracing (?) while a PS4 version will not. It can focus on 60fps gameplay where the PS4 cannot. It can scale to more player (online), where the PS4 cannot. etc. It would allow PS5 only lobbies, but that doesn't mean PS4 can't handle that. If this machine impresses on it's own, I see no reason why it needs to break compatibility. I will not sell my PS4s...but I sure will get me a PS5. Depends on the price, but I rather put one in every room - not all need to be PS5s, though.

For the release ... if Sony will show it this E3 it will release this holiday season. I see absolutely no reason why not. Time to market is crucial here. If it is only remotely ready to be built this year, it will release this year.

ApocalypseShadow2227d ago (Edited 2227d ago )

I know what you're saying. And I figured someone would mention scaling back a game to work on previous hardware. But that doesn't work when the new hardware has more going on in a game.

You can scale back detail, resolution and such. But you can't scale back bigger explosions, destructable backgrounds, weather effects,a.i., and objects onscreen and have newer and older systems playing the same game online. *Offline sure.* As I stated above. But not online. PS4's cpu can only calculate so fast.

PS5 should play PS4 games through BC and build bigger and better games on a newer platform. The point of creating new hardware, is to do more with it without worrying about last Gen systems. And two, to get people to buy it. That's why there are generations. If the point is just a prettier looking game, then l wouldn't buy a newer console. It's why I didn't buy a PS4 Pro.I don't want prettier looks if base PS4 plays the exact same game without my spending $400 more for prettier looks. I want a new console to do what the current one can't do.

Ju2227d ago (Edited 2227d ago )

Of course you can scale it. Especially explosions etc. That's a simple parameter (.e.g. number of particles / iterations). And of course I do not necessarily expect PS4 online to work with PS5 online. That's why it's a new generation. Not to say, though, a PS5 could not support a PS4 lobby (in say a scaled back mode); while a PS4 cannot support PS5 lobbies. So, I fully get that online PS5 and PS4 will be separated. Of course that's why it's called a PS5 and not YAPS4. But I still don't want to rebuy all my games - and that goes both ways - especially offline. I want to be able to not only transfer games, but also game saves. In both ways. PS5 games on PS4 and PS4 games on PS5. Why should this not work?

ApocalypseShadow2226d ago

Then why not have PS5 games on PS3 or even PS1? Eventually, you have to let something go.

Like I said, you should be able to bring your games forward through BC, but the point of new hardware is for it to do more than what the current one does and move you forward to buy it.

My PS4 plays all the games PS4 Pro does and VR. Why should I spend $400 more? And, possibly have to buy a tv just to display a prettier image. Same with pc. Most 3rd party games look better on it than console. Why should I spend $500 or more building or buying a pc to play a game that plays exactly the same on my console?

As a long time console gamer, if a newer console doesn't bring a quantum leap and the games can be played on what I have now, I'm not buying the new one. But that's just me. I value gameplay over looks.

It's like if Microsoft were still supporting windows 95,me and Vista with new software like forza 7? But the software will play better on windows 10 and Xbox one.Why bother.

Ju2226d ago

Well, I don't know what you guys expect. A faster machine does not fundamental change the way we play games. Just "more" of everything doesn't really do much. Even if the AI can be "smarter", the physics is more sophisticated, the "explosions are bigger". It's still the same gameplay. One runs, shoots, solves puzzles. Really. More power will not really get us this. Maybe someone here can explain to me, what this fundamental "new gameplay" is supposed to be.

What it will do, however, make games more and more life like. And of course, if photo realism is part of the design goal, those games will indeed look very different on a PS4. I also don't expect all (!) PS5 games run on a PS4. But it shouldn't be as black and white. I also do not think, it is feasible these days breaking compatibly. There is just too much (market) pressure from a current gen to force people to upgrade. This might have worked in the past. But I do not expect the PS5 to radically change the way we game or handle these devices. They are too expensive and powerful to simply through the old ones out.
One possibility, however, could be is that a PS5 will replace a PS4 all together - which means an entry model covers the base but will not be significantly faster than a Pro - with a price tag of a Slim. And Sony takes the PS4 off the market (which will create a sh!tstorm in the PS4 community).

A PS5, assuming architecture is constant, would probably run PS4 Pro games in Boost Mode. For me, that'd be sick since I only own a base PS4, so the leap would potentially be monstrous.

Stanjara2226d ago

That was so on point! Great response!

ChristopherJack2226d ago

Everyone is well aware Sony doesn't HAVE to allow cross play, that was never even the point so I've no clue why you're talking about a corporate perspective that everybody already knew.

You're a consumer, act like one- think of what's in our best interests, not theirs. This corporate defence nonsense just doesn't belong, Sony is a big boy, they can justify their own actions, that doesn't mean consumers should stop requesting changes for the better.

9th generation hardware is certainly going to be interesting. It’s really going to determine where consoles go from here on out. Whether they continue the conservative model, or start moving to becoming service hubs. Hopefully PS5 is as powerful as rumored.

Anthem Sold A Solid 5 Million Copies In Its Lifetime

BDO sucks. Only good for the character creator.

anast1014d ago

Is the combat worth it?

Phoenixryu1014d ago

I tried BDO a few months ago. It's a decent game but I got bored of it pretty quickly. Combat is very action-based, it's fun but very repetitive. There are a lot of menus and most of the in-game systems are a bit more complicated than they needed to be. Some game modes won't let you buy and sell certain items until you convert to a different mode etc. Basically, the game is kind of convoluted.

phoenixwing1014d ago

The mobs barely react in bdo. You can kill half of a mob of enemies before they'll even attack. You'll basically be grinding mobs until you can fight a boss that will even react well. Don't recommend it
