The game really has made quite the turn around in the last year. They had to rebuild the engine so we went a while without getting many updates. Doesn't help that they are terrible and communicating with fans. But now we get almost monthly updates and Steam workshop helps bring in new content every week.

I miss Destruction Derby 2.

YAO-BLING2827d ago

countless hours of playing that game when i was 15 years old. I would bust a you turn and drive the opposite ways just to make the computer crash with me and see cars flying everywhere.. very impressive physics for its time.

quent2827d ago

Bug bear are my favorite arcade racer developers, their physics model is on a different level, you feel every bump and pebble on the race track, flatout 2 and UC never gets old, the AI is also pretty devious.

TheCommentator2827d ago (Edited 2827d ago )

I loved Flatout with its' hilarious "sports" minigames!

LucasRuinedChildhood2827d ago

They made Ridge Racer: Unbounded as well, and I thought that was extremely underrated. An emphasis on drifting in a game that otherwise felt like a combination of Burnout and Split/Second. I only played it within the last year out of morbid curiosity, and I was shocked that it never gained traction. It's one of my favourite racing games from last gen now. It has a track editor as well.

quent2826d ago

Played unbound couple months(still playing it) back, there are parts when racing that gives you such a thrill and a burst of adrenaline that very few games give, especially when that ingame music base drop hits at the perfect time

[I just continued our conversation like this so you'd get a reply notification]
Yes, it's definitely a very exhilarating game. I love the challenge and the drive to earn 3 stars as well. I thought some of the music was good, but I'm personally kind of tired of Skrillex. Any complaints I have about the soundtrack were pretty much negated though. I don't know where you played it, but not all PS3 games have custom soundtracks, so that was a nice addition for me. I downloaded loads of songs to suite me a bit better (including the Burnout 3 and Burnout: Revenge soundtrack, lol). They went well with Driver: San Francisco as well.

It's exactly what a want in a racing game. Fast cars, boost, chaos and destruction, with a rivalry between drivers where they can play dirty and annihilate each others' vehicles. The drifting doesn't hurt. When you take out another racer, it's just incredibly to watch them spin and get hurled through debris, falling apart and exploding in slow-motion (with points for damage caused as well). It's fun to chain them together with the crazy shortcuts and oil trucks too. There's nothing more satisfying than drifting into a corner with boost, and knocking into the side of an opponent.

quent2826d ago (Edited 2826d ago )

Driver SF also a brilliant underrated driving game, still got it installed on my pc, drifting all over the place with the Audi RS6, probably for hour's on end while listening to that Elbow tune-Cause for divorce, I think its called.

iceman062826d ago

Damn I miss the Driver series!!! Underrated as hell, imo.

Kombatologist2826d ago (Edited 2826d ago )

That's precisely how I feel about Bugbear and their games. FO1 didn't get much praise, but I loved it on Xbox. I also had a blast playing FO2 online with some friends. My only complaint was the lack of snow tracks in FO2/UC.

Day 1 buy for me. There has been very few arcade racing games this generation, and I like Bugbear's previous games. I will always stick by my claim that Ridge Racer: Unbounded is one of the most underrated and underappreciated games of last generation, if not all-time. People got way too emotional because it wasn't a traditional Ridge Racer game, and didn't judge the game based on its own merits (being fair, most of the larger publications were much kinder to it, and many gave it scores in around the 8-9 range - Edge gave it a 9).

Having flashbacks to Wreckless on the original Xbox... loved that game!

curious... if a game leaves PS+, does it make it unplayable if you have already claimed it before it leaves? I know on the XB side, games leaving Gamepass are no longer playable. You need to pay for them to be able to continue playing after you installed them from GP.

CrimsonWing6917d ago

The 3 monthly “free” games you keep as long as you have PS+ subscription. The PS+ library is like Netflix. They rotate stuff out and replace them with other titles.

MrNinosan16d ago

Yes, PS+ Extra/Premium games are unplayable after the leave the service, just like GamePass and Netflix.
PS+ Essentials games are available as long as you have an active PS+ account.

Profchaos16d ago

Monthly games, special promos like the free games during COVID or PS plus bundle on ps5 are forever yours. Premium and above are time limited

If you claim a game on the premium tier (not yours to keep) and it comes out as a monthly games later e.g. fallout 76 it appears you do not retain ownership on that one.

Notsofast16d ago

The 3-4 monthly games that are free that are part of every service are yours forever I canceled my service over a year and you never lose access. I dont know what these other comments are talking about maybe they are in a different country but in the USA I could play any game I claimed of the free monthly games

MrNinosan16d ago

Then one of the accounts on your PS5 probably has a PS+ Essential subscription.
Because the 3-4 PS+ games you get every month, is not available to be played if you don't have an active sunscription.
It's the same in US, Europe, Japan and everywhere else.

Petebloodyonion16d ago

Essential stays in your library
Extra and premium become locked when titles leave the service.

It's actually one of my gripes with Extra, you can't remove the title from your own library, so basically it countss as one your title but it's locked so you own library become a cluster F... unless you filter your titles.

MrNinosan16d ago

Well you can just chose to hide them.

Wonder if Horizon ZD leaving gives credit to those remake rumours

Sigh. If true…another remake that’s not Bloodborne.

SimpleDad16d ago

Probably yes cause of a remake.

Skuletor16d ago

I still remember them giving that one away for free, regardless of if you were subscribed to Plus or not

ApocalypseShadow16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

They did. It was during the pandemic and the "play at home" initiative.

Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition. Sony gave away a lot of games just to push gamers to stay home and not get infected by COVID.

Eonjay16d ago

I think you're right.
There is a separate Bloodborne rumor by the remake is allegedly scheduled for next gen.

Kingrizzy9016d ago

Yes cause of the remake good thing I got the plat
And is bloodborn really that good? I never played it due to being Incarcerated 8½ years but I read the comics. It's pretty dark

Profchaos16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

Highly likely I also bet the remaster will be over priced and under whelming.

I'd also bet most people will simply stick with the PS4 pro and ps5 60fps patch over paying to upgrade when it offers the bare minimum.

I hope Sony has learnt from the last of us 2 and stop remastering games that just came out they have nearly 30 years of content to work with but always remaster games that are like 5 years old and don't need it. I assume this was In development alongside tlou2 so fingers crossed this is the last time we get this because what's next god of war on PS4 to ps5 for 70 dollars probably anything outside of bloodborne

Glad I played sundered and the messenger, both great 2d games

gold_drake16d ago

ahh the messenger is such a good game.

u should play sea of starts. same people, its a sort of prequel to the messenger tok

Friendlygamer16d ago

Oh I will definitely play it eventually, chained echoes too

Jingsing16d ago

Can N4G adopt a policy of games leaving subscription services as not being a new story, it is just spam at this point.

Petebloodyonion16d ago

Is it me or have there been a lot of great games leaving the extra tier but barely anything in terms of wow factor joining the service in return?
When was the last time that Sony added a PlayStation studio game?
Now I don't expect Sony to have day 1 like Gamepass but I would expect to at least care to make the offering interesting especially when they raised the price by 30% last year.

MrNinosan16d ago

PS Studio Games:
May - Destiny 2: Lightfall
April - MediEvil, Jak&Daxter: The Lost Frontier,
March - CoolBoarders

What Playstation Studio games is it you're missing?

Petebloodyonion16d ago

Sight...
let me check my comment again
" Is it me or have there been a lot of great games leaving the extra tier but barely anything in terms of wow factor joining the service in return? "
Yeah pretty sure I mentioned the EXTRA tier and not the PREMIUM tier
but glad that you consider a DLC to a free-to-play game a great offering

MrNinosan16d ago

I repeat my question, what PS Studio games is it you're missing?

And regarding the first part of your comment, lots of great games leaving and nothing added?

What great games iyo has left the service?
For me, "wow-factor games added would be".
Dave the Diver, Tales of Kenzera, Raji, Miasma, The Outer Worlds, Resident Evil 3, Ace Attorney, Rainbow Six Siege, AC: Valhalla, Far Cry 6, Watch Dogs Legion, Both Southpark jrpgs, Fenyx Rising, Tales of Arise, Session, Lego Worlds, Vampire the Masquerade Swansong, Legends of Mana....

And many more.

Compared to what has been removed, the adds are better than the 'offs'.

The most AI cheating game I have ever played. I won't even call it a racing game since the AI's sole purpose was not to win the race, but to get in front of you and slow you down.

Stuart5756115d ago

Many hours spent tearing my hair out over that exact thing. Good old days when I had time...

dumahim115d ago

@Stuart5756

Yep. My 2 most rage inducing examples:
I think the semi had the worst (or 2nd worst) speed in the mud and I was driving something that was great in the mud (not a dirtbike though) and I used my boost perfectly out front and shut it down at the right time to avoid blowing up. But as soon as I let off the boost, a semi came flying by which shouldn't have been possible.

The other one was I was up on some ledge next to a rock wall in a truck when a dirt bike came up between me and the rock wall. I do what anyone would do. I ram the bike into the wall and boom! I blow up, bike is fine.

EnViiDisnuCCa115d ago (Edited 115d ago )

I would love a remaster of Destruction Derby that was ps1 days

Barlos115d ago

Nah it needs another MotorStorm.

Ikheetwilliam115d ago

Bring me another Blur .. that would make one happy!

darthv72115d ago

Personally Id love a Motorstorm remastered collection. And then maybe even Motorstorm VR.
