A while ago, DualShockers found out a certification for a “wireless adaptor” by Sony Interactive Entertainment on the Federal Communications Commission database. One of the theories about its nature, was an official USB adapter to connect the DualShock 4 to other devices.

Wireless charging for a controller would be awesome. Battery life sucks on ps4 controllers but this would fix the problem

Gazondaily2835d ago

That's not what this is.....

Kingthrash3602835d ago (Edited 2835d ago )

Playstation now for pc confirmed.

Don,...
Relax bro. Playstation now is a service...not a single purchase. Also I seriously doubt the ps now games will be any better on pc than it is on a smart tv or vita or ps3 or ps4 or tablets. It surely won't have ps4 game on it becuse people buy these games.
There is a stark difference between ps now and Xbox/windows release.
I'll give you a few major differances...
Xbox/ pc shares:
Same day release
New this gen AAA games
Major new titles
Buy one get on the other free
Same network
Psnow..dosent have any of that.
Psnow is its own service and aresolution for people who want to pay a sub or rent the hundreds of last Gen games. That's really it...it's like EA access but with older ps3 games and no new games.
Nice try tho bro.

Moldy....really bro?
The neo is to deter gamers from pc???
Lmao what????
Playstation exclusives are reason enough to buy a ps4...just like mario is for the wii.
I remember when mario kart released for the wiiu.....wiiu sold over 200% more that month........for one game.
Not 2....not power....not 4k.....no just a arcade kart racer....like it or not exclusives sells consoles.

"Playstation now for pc confirmed. "

not sure what is taking sony so long, its an untapped potential market for them.

donthate2835d ago

Trash:

Maybe we will get PS4 games on PS Now too, then we can all play on PC instead of consoles.

freshslicepizza2835d ago (Edited 2835d ago )

Sony won't put ps4 games on the service or most of their big exclusives on the PC. They want to sell hardware first and foremost as they still believe they are used to leverage sales. I don't think that is as big of a draw to help sell systems as it once was however. This is why they are coming out with Neo to try and deter gamers from opting for the PC

gangsta_red2835d ago (Edited 2834d ago )

@moldybread

I'm thinking eventually they will, especially if PSNow proves to be successful on other devices, Sony may expand their library to include some PS4 titles.

Sony knows that the money to be made is in subscriptions and other continual payments from users, not one time buys with hardware. It's probably one of the reasons they raised their PS+ membership.

freshslicepizza2835d ago (Edited 2835d ago )

http://www.playstationlifes...

There you go King, now what? Sony doesn't want to turn into Nintendo where consumers only buy their systems for its exclusives. Sony makes a lot of money on multiplatform game sales and they hope that continues.

Wireless charging doesnt improve battery life. It just gives another way to charge that's usually slower than just plugging it in.

arkard2835d ago (Edited 2835d ago )

Yeah, wireless charging doesn't work like that. You would need to still have your controller in a platform of some type, thus you wouldn't be "charging" and using it.

FamilyGuy2835d ago

Maybe this is for Tvs with Playstation Now integration?
That or for PCs. Can't think of any other use.

rainslacker2834d ago

Those TV's often have bluetooth receivers to accommodate such things. Unless it's for older smart TV's which allow some sort of app installation. The ones that come preinstalled with PSNow don't require a dongle.

PC would be my guess...for PS Now titles, or just people who want to use a PS controller on the PC. Maybe could be used for other devices as well, although those would have bluetooth as well. But perhaps the dongle provides some sort of interpretation to make it more compatible.

LexHazard792835d ago (Edited 2835d ago )

@kingtrash, so does that mean your exclusives are in jeopardy?

Before everyone goes crazy with the replies. At some point in time the games will make its way to PS Now.

joeorc2835d ago (Edited 2835d ago )

@BakPAin1m ago(Edited 0m ago)
[@kingtrash, so does that mean your exclusives are un jeopardy]

Only if you are willing to shell out money to play some of those "Legacy"
PlayStation Exclusives from the PS1,PS2 & Some PS3 games..by Subscription service only..

There are no PS4 games on that streaming service..
And will not be for a long..long time. Sony is trying to sell a PS4, not make or give you Less of a reason, to buy one.

People ever since Sony purchased OnLive and Gaikai have been trying to paint or imply Sony wants to get out of the hardware business and stop making Playstation's.. Which would not only be Downright idiotically Stupid, and it would further remove PlayStation from having a physical presence In the Living room under the TV.

Sony is expanding PlayStation presence by streaming, not replacing.
Having Legacy PlayStation games through a streaming paid service key point and word is Paid.and its a rental service at that and ...is Quite different than what Microsoft is doing by making your exclusive console games day in date new games digital downloadable, or a physical disc copy for another platform out side the console platform, which those games for a console was designed for in the 1st place.

@Christopher
"If we were to see current generation games make their way to PSNow, I think there might be a point for this. It would do away entirely with the need of a PS4, but only if it offered exclusives and not just third-party titles, which is most of what PSNow offers so far."

And there is the point, why would Sony start offering their own PS4 Exclusives right now across PSNow , when they are trying to sell to a consumer to put a PlayStation game console under the TV instead of a Xbox one, PC or a Nintendo game console or other streaming Box..

Putting the PS4 games after or near the end of the support cycle would make sense..it turns their Legacy content into a Netflix of sorts but instead of new day and date games from 1st party you have to wait a long time maybe as far into the next cycle of consoles.

Christopher2835d ago

Interesting question. I was about to type a response, but not sure how to respond.

1. The current games are all PS3 or older (are there even any non-PS3 games on PSNow right now?).
2. You never buy a game, only license access to a list of games.
3. It is a closed platform much like iTunes or Windows10
4. Sony still makes licensing fees off of the games played, only it's at a 'bulk' rate for old titles.

If we were to see current generation games make their way to PSNow, I think there might be a point for this. It would do away entirely with the need of a PS4, but only if it offered exclusives and not just third-party titles, which is most of what PSNow offers so far.

rainslacker2834d ago (Edited 2834d ago )

Given the cost of PS Now, and how it's structured, I doubt it'll make it a compelling way to play those exclusives on PC. Wouldn't be bad if it can be played on PS Now should one have purchased the game though....would make it pretty nice for those who travel a lot, or maybe just want to start up a game on their friends smart TV.

Think PS4 games will certainly make it to PS now one day. But for the present time, Sony seems to be all over the place in where the service will work, and just how they're going to offer content. Seems they're testing a lot of different scenarios, so for the time being, I can't see them rushing to get PS4 exclusives up there since it seems more like an extended beta test type service at the moment.

@Chris

"It would do away entirely with the need of a PS4"

In it's current state I wouldn't say that. While PS Now works really well, streaming a game has it's down sides compared to local play. Beyond the resolution and compression of the image, there is the actual internet to contend with, and lag spikes, which could hinder the experience. Also, one can't buy games on PS Now, so unless they fix that, we'd be looking at a rather costly rental solution. May be beneficial for some games, but certainly not all. Plus, I wonder just how readily it'd be supported by publishers, if all they're getting is a rental cut of the people playing their games. Works now, because the games offered don't drive a lot of sales revenue, but are good for impulse rental consumption.

Hopefully this adaptor will give us DS4 native wireless PC connectivity with Remote Play and PC games.

bouzebbal2835d ago

i don't get it... wireless usb adapter??? what for?

joeorc2835d ago (Edited 2835d ago )

@abzdiine28m ago
[i don't get it... wireless usb adapter??? what for?]

The guess and most likely is the case;
It is Operating System Agnostic/so it's being made for other devices to use a dual shock Game pad.

Most Likely for PC, streaming Android TV Box's & Smart TV's , Mac, Linux..Tablets & Phablets with OTG support, Laptops.

For remote play and maybe PlayStation Now.

If Sony does indeed make PlayStation Now useable on such platforms , like they have with PlayStation Vue which they already have on Android OS, Roku, Apple iOS , Google Chromecast, Amazon fire devices.

It would allow Sony than to gain possible Subscriptions services from PC , streaming Box , Smart TV users, Linux and Mac users to boot etc. In a sense turn other devices into a PlayStation Node..not a PlayStation , but allow those device users through Subscriptions to play Legacy PlayStation games .

To those that want PS4 games without buying a PS4..you would have to wait, until the PS5 and through this is strictly a streaming service.. Sony is not getting rid of a living room PlayStation... That would be quite stupid and with Remote Play needing a PS4 anyway.

Sony is not looking to replace the Living room PlayStation with strictly a streaming service.

Hell remote play and PlayStation Now are on PlayStation 4's.

PlayStation Now is for Legacy PlayStation games through a Subscription to play Legacy PS1,PS2 & PS3 games, not all but Some of them. It is not being Used to replace the Living Room PlayStation , Like some are thinking it is.

bouzebbal2835d ago

the title says for PS4, so me no comprendo

@abzdiine

Just cause it listed for the PS4 doesn't mean that what is solely for.

esmittystud1012835d ago

kneon2835d ago

This isn't for charging, it's a Bluetooth adapter for PCs

Horseheadinthebed2835d ago

Wouldn't any Bluetooth dongle work? My laptop has built in BT and picks up my ds4 with no problems, I use it on Elite Dangerous...

esmittystud1012835d ago

The comment was for the guys preaching wireless charging :)

Neonridr2835d ago

@Horseheadinthebed - some people like to spend more on "official" products.. ;)

Yes, any bluetooth dongle should work too.

kneon2834d ago

Many off the shelf bluetooth dongles have limited capabilities. The PS3 supported 7 devices simultaneously connected, many cheap dongles can't do that, or do it poorly. Also Sony could provide official PC drivers that will get loaded when their device is detected. Of course, they could provide drivers anyway, but by providing their own dongle they can be certain of its capabilities.

10 Biggest Xbox Mistakes of All Time (So Far)

The Xbox brand has done a lot of good over the years, but their various blunders are pretty wild to look back on in their magnitude.

piroh4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Ironically number 9 can save them at this point (releasing games on multiple platforms)

ChasterMies2d ago

By “save them” you mean make more profit for Microsoft. Xbox will still be a dying hardware platform.

OtterX3d ago

You could add the naming scheme for the consoles, it just confuses customers. I know they wanted to avoid traditional numbering bc it would always be lower than their competitor, but this whole 360 then One then Series thing is confusing af. Imagine a Soccer Mom trying to figure this stuff out. I still mistakenly call the Series X the One from time to time on accident.

RNTody3d ago

Don't forget about the Xbox One, Xbox One X and Xbox Series X! Good luck to Soccer moms around the world.

S2Killinit2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

They did that on purpose to confuse and direct attention away from the generational numbering.

MS doesn’t like reminding people that they joined the industry after others had already been involved in gaming.

For instance, they called the xbox “360” to combat PlayStation “3” because they wanted to seem like “more” than “3”, so instead of xbox 2, they opted for xbox 360. Also this had the additional benefit of selling consoles to uninformed parents who might purchase a “360” instead of a “3” by mistake, or because they thought 360 was more than 3. Kind of a disingenuous move.

They have been continuing with their confusing naming patterns for pretty much the same reasons. Frankly, it fits with who and what they are as a brand.

FinalFantasyFanatic2d ago

I can understand their reasoning, but whoever came up with that naming scheme should be fired, bad naming schemes have killed consoles (I'm pretty sure it was the major reason for the downfall of the WiiU). They should have had unqiue names like Nintendo and Sega have had for their consoles, far less confusing for the consumer.

Cacabunga3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Phil Spencer is the worst that has happened to Xbox.
They built a respectable brand up to Xbox one. Then this guy took over and things became a joke

Reaper22_3d ago

He still has his job. Something you can't say about Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga3d ago

Both bad execs. One is on job and one thankfully retired.

FinalFantasyFanatic2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I didn't like either person, both people damaged their respective brands and produced worse outcomes, but Phil did save the Xbox brand from being retired by Microsoft. Although in hindsight, he should have just let it die, rather than languish in limbo like it is now.

Rainbowcookie1d 16h ago

Yeah but the one that was "bad" didn't even affect sales.

bunt-custardly3d ago

Phil Spencer was also on the team back when 360 was around, alongside Shane Kim, Peter Moore etc. I think the damage that did the most harm was the Don Mattrick "Always Online" console (ahead of its time basically). They handed Sony and Nintendo a free-pass when that was revealed. It went downhill from there. Then the corporate machine went into full swing to try and recover. They have to a degree as a games company for the masses, and less so for the core gamer. Outside USA, the Xbox brand does not sell as well as Japanese based consoles (citation needed).

Cacabunga3d ago

Want a decision maker. The always online and TV plans was a disaster yes, but they caught up by announcing 1st party games that gamers actually kept the hype going.. until this moron took over and introduced the PC day one release.. e all know where that ended..

S2Killinit2d ago

I dont think they were ever a respectable brand, not since the beginning, when their goal was never to be involved and share in the gaming space. I think the OG xbox was an exception because MS as a brand was still getting its foot in and so the people behind that were people of the gaming industry.

FinalFantasyFanatic2d ago

The 360 was the brand in its prime though, everything went downhill towards the end of that generation. Its staple games like Halo, Forza and Gears are what kept the console relevant and afloat for so long.

MaximusPrime_3d ago

Really good video.

I remember the days with RRoD was big news on here, N4G.

Microsoft had it turbulence number of years.

Looking at the success of Sea of Thieves despite being 6 years old, time to release Halo, Forza horizon 4 & 5 on PS5. It'll help their revenue

shinoff21833d ago (Edited 3d ago )

2 of the 4 games they did already sold really well. So it's definitely going down. Idk about halo or forza but I feel those studios they've bought in the last 5 years, their coming

ChasterMies3d ago

I found this video painful to watch. Can someone list them out?

Top 10 for me from are:
1. 2013 reveal presentation
2. Bundling Kinect 2 with Xbox One
3. RRoD or why rushing to market with hardware is always a bad idea.
4. Buying studios only to close them.
5. Ads on the Home Screen
6. Letting Halo die.
7. Letting Geard of War die.
8. Every console name
9. Charging for Xbox Live on Xbox 360 when Sony let PS3 players play online for free.
10. Cancelling release of OG Xbox games after the Xbox 360 launched.
