Well deserved! Enjoyed playing the rise of the TR in 4K

starchild2882d ago

Yeah, it was a really great experience for me. I played it at 1440p and it is a beautiful and truly fun game, imo.

miyamoto2882d ago (Edited 2882d ago )

meh, Tomb Raider should have remained true to itself instead of trying hard to be a mix of Uncharted and TLOU.
Lara should have stayed true to her original herself with none of that identity crisis stuff.

The real Lara would take any hard times and difficulty into an opportunity.

-Foxtrot2883d ago

The franchise didn't really evolve though did it? More like just turned into a different game by copying another....Uncharted. The game could have been called "The Island" and you would have never have known it was Tomb Raider.

I'd kill for a remake of the first one...not like the Anniversary game but more in line with the original just updated graphics.

Least then the fear, suspense and survival element would be there...which is part of Tomb Raider not found in the new ones. I mean you don't get hazards and close moments like these

O man it looked so much better back then lol. OG tomb raider was awesome. New tomb raider is awesome but they aren't the same game. Jumping the boats in #2 the sliding to jump off an edge to barely grab a ledge that has viable wolf's waiting for you. Great games

Imalwaysright2882d ago (Edited 2882d ago )

So you want tank controls to be back in 2016? TR annyversary is a great TR remake with satisfying platforming (no tank controls) a level design that rivals Ico and fully encapsulates that atmosphere of loneliness of the 1st TR which imo has yet to be matched by any other game. Toby Gard, Tomb Raider creator, was part of the team that developed Annyversary so if he can't deliver what you consider to be a true TR game no one will.

Also, I still don't understand how you say that TR is just an Uncharted copy when Uncharted was heavily inspired by TR. I don't think you know how important the 1st TR and its sequels were to the action adventure genre to say something like that.

ninsigma2882d ago

Come one dude. Those gigs look nothing like uncharted. They are so different. The reboot though plays just like the uncharted series.

Imalwaysright2882d ago (Edited 2882d ago )

TR Legend, PS2 game.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Does it look like it plays like in those gifs to you?

No more tank controls and you can already see the platforming and climbing that we saw on the TR2013 as well as the level design to "accommodate" this type of platforming and if you watch the whole video you will also see QTEs. You could say that TR took the cover system from Uncharted but then I look at sandbox games like GTA or RPGs like Mass Effect... I look at how pretty much every third person game with shooting mechanics has a cover system and over the shoulder view so why should TR be any different? I call that the Chris Esaki effect.

What I see from Uncharted in TR 2013 are over the top setpieces and the cinematic flair.

@ bruce755

Did you watch the video I posted? TR 2013 has TR legend vertical platforming and climbing. What do you mean by rudimentary? It's the same exact thing. Movement? You mean moving with left analog stick and controling the camera with the right analog stick? Present in TR legend as well. No more tank controls in TR since TR legend.

TR was inspired by Indiana Jones as well. I believe it was the 1st 3D action adventure inspired by Indiana Jones so when I play Uncharted I see things from TR in Uncharted but like I stated above I also see things from Uncharted when I play TR reboots.

Edit:

Do it well? No, TR legend platforming is extremely satisfying and fun. Did you play the game to know how the platforming in that game feels?

Yeah sure ok man

Never finished any of the old TR games but I agree that it doesn't look like Uncharted.

Hold_It2882d ago (Edited 2882d ago )

Actually it just improved upon the Tomb Raider Legend formula. Maybe if you actually went back and played those games, you'd see that those were out long before Uncharted was ever thought of and had very similar mechanics that the Reboot and Rise have.. Tomb Raider games aren't super linear with a big cinematic approach, so Tomb Raider is NOTHING like Uncharted.

freshslicepizza2882d ago

the exploring and platforming were good back then but the controls were awful. nothing wrong with making it more action oriented in the sense of uncharted and far cry because you dont have to cater to the original gamer from back then. that's why they call it a fresh reboot. problem is some people are so wrapped up in nostalgia they cannot accept change. look what happened to devil may cry, it was actually a fun game to play.

mochachino2882d ago

No mainstream audience is going to accept those tank controls.

Best thing for Square to do is remake the old ones with new graphics and keep the current series going.

-Foxtrot2882d ago

Woah I didn't say tank controls. They can still update the controls just make it TR

Imalwaysright2882d ago

"Here we go...the guy who thinks the new games play EXACTLY the same as the originals

Yeah sure ok man"

Is that what you got from my comments?

No, TR doesn't play exactly like the original like GTA V doesn't play like GTA3, like Doom doesn't play like the original, like FIFA doesn't play like the original like GT doesn't play like the original... It's called evolution and despite these games not playing exactly like the originals, they still have all the elements and concepts that were present in the games that started these franchises.

It's the why we close servers after 2 years, why we re-use the same assets every year, and why we bundle our game with enjoyable microtransactions.

neutralgamer19922d ago

Running digital casinos in every game

Rebel_Scum2d ago

Re-using assets is not a bad thing tbh. Development is all about re-using code, assets and components.

neutralgamer19922d ago

Can you please focus on delivering enough quality content to justify the $70 asking price? While I appreciate the idea of over-delivering, it's essential to ensure that the base content itself is worth it. I have concerns that GTA6 might have less single-player content because most of the focus seems to be shifting towards online play and microtransactions

Inverno2d ago

The sleaze oozes out of these gaming CEOs faces. It's honestly disturbing how distorted people look when you've realized how money obsessed they really are. He gives off "in one ear and straight out the other" vibes.

jambola2d ago

I really don't get it
like
do they think anyone believes what they say?
is it that being in charge surrounds you by so many yesmen that they get deluded into thinking everyone is like that?

JackBNimble2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Well if you look at the last 10 years you will notice there wasn't as single paid dlc. Every update was free whether you want to complain about sharkcards or not.

They're going to make billions on this game especially if they keep the same formula as last in regards to updates.

Good-Smurf2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Selling Shark cards and removing content are not exactly "good news for consumers" lol.
The last time they released any DLC worth playing was 15 years ago.
GTA V is so broken and unbalanced that people would rather do stupid cringey stunts with than do heists.

JackBNimble2d ago

I'm sure the player base would disagree, and gta5 is still being supported, much longer then most games, after all I bought gta5 day 1 on ps3....
