Eurogamer: Alone in the Dark PS3 Preview

Eurogamer writes: "For once, PS3 owners should be grateful for having to wait ages for a game to show up on their platform. Because, in Alone in the Dark's case, this is no loveless and unoptimised port; this is the game it should have been in the first place.

At Leipzig, Eden is in confessional mode. Few studios would have the balls to kick off a presentation by systematically listing the massive amount of flaws in their recently released game, but that's what happened. "We have absorbed and taken every piece of criticism about the game that was constructive and would help," a rep says. Tom says you're welcome."

Cyrus3655759d ago

Those were already great games before, that recieved some improvement.

This game was basically reviewed as crap game, and now will be decent to good, depending on the issues solved.

Not that I give a rat's ass about this game or the future of any of my consoles.

10YearFlop5759d ago

hahahahaha the xbox 360 sucks more than ava devine

clintos595759d ago

Way to screw others who bought this game already. Glad I didnt buy it but for those who did, sucks for them.

Cyrus3655759d ago

The 360 owners are getting patch as well to fix up all the issues they had.

rosebowl235759d ago (Edited 5759d ago )

yea it sucks so bad that they fixed the bad aspects of a game and are offering a patch to the older buyers.

morganfell5759d ago

Yes but they won't get all of the improvements:

"Eden has confirmed that it is working on a patch which will implement most of the changes that have been made to the upcoming PS3 version."

Genesis55759d ago

Well it really sounds like they are fixxing it up. I guess I'll have to re-evaluate this game when it is released. I want it too be good. I like alone in the dark.

can these changes really save this terrible game?

badz1495759d ago

the game itself has a lot of potential but it was heavily bugged by the bad controls and design! I really hope they can make it better in the control department for the PS3 because that's the only thing that they can improve for an already existing game! it's sad that Atari said that they are not going to make any SP game anymore because they can still improve in delivering a title with lots of potential such as alone in The Dark. just don't screw up, that's it!

ps: if they put trophies, the game will sell better!

Vicophine5759d ago

Well, add trophy support and watch it sell well lol.

It's moved up to "Definitive rental" for me :[

LossTheEarthbreaker5759d ago

Well, at least they're doing something to make the game better.

Very uncommon, especially post-release.

That genuinely, genuinely sucks. The reboot has clear flaws, but it really felt like a solid first step for this team to receive *greater* investment.

Alone in the dark is a fun game so that's unfortunate

CrimsonWing6934d ago

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that the norm after a project is done?

Terry_B33d ago

That's standard. Teams are together for a Project, after its done some..and sometimes most devs are fired until the next Project is in the works and people are needed again. Only the core members stay in the time between the hot phase of the game development.

CrimsonWing6933d ago

What’s annoying is people don’t understand how contractors work, either. All of this is uninformed knee-jerk reactions without any understanding of how employment works in this industry. There are key developers and staff that stay with a studio/publisher, but often times it’s a hire per project and then seeking new employment for a project. That’s how it’s always been…

coolbeans33d ago

That's a fair point too. I would say that in light of its tepid critical/commercial response and ongoing mass layoffs across the industry I think it's understandable for fans to worry about the longer-term implications. We'll see how it plays out in the future.

Alone in the Dark (XS) Review | VGChartz

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "In one sense, it feels strange to even think Pieces Interactive had big shoes to fill with this series' legacy. Given what's come before, did it really? And yet, even when considering the last two flops over a two-decade span, there's still something about Alone in the Dark emblazoned on a title screen that carries a sense of revered history. In that respect, perhaps this reboot's best accomplishment is in honoring that spirit through its inventive world. It's also fair to emphasize knocks against its survival-horror design, some puzzle-solving, and so on; it certainly won't be considered a trendsetter like the 1992 classic. Still, the amount of goodwill wedded to its brighter qualities makes for something that dawdles the line between unfortunately-flawed and impressively-enticing."

Alone in the Dark review [SideQuesting]

The new Alone in the Dark remake doesn't do anything especially noteworthy, but that doesn't mean it's bad. It's just... cromulent.
