Upgradeable Xbox One, Play PS4 On PC & More

Xbox One vs PC gaming, weird new Battlefront characters, Star Fox, and Battlefront rumors in an exciting week of cool things in video games brought to you by Jake Baldino.

MatrixxGT3000d ago

Yep it's coming in the next update. I'm in the beta but that one feature isn't available...go figure.

Oh and remote play is coming to Mac as well.

Aenea3000d ago

Something tells me that feature is available in the beta firmware except there's no client available yet for Win/OSX :)

Ninja_G_Aidan3000d ago

Can you play PS Now on PC? That will be brilliant if you can.

IIFloodyII3000d ago (Edited 3000d ago )

No, it's Remote Play will support PC and Mac.

Spencer clarified there won't be an upgradable Xbox. Quote:
The feedback I received… “Am I going to break open my console and start upgrading individual pieces of my console?” That’s not the plan. There is something special about what happens with a console. You buy an applicance-like device. You plug it into your TV. It works when you plug it in. It’s not like I’m going to ship a screwdriver set with every console that comes out.

BossBattle3000d ago

He's saying you won't have to open the X1 up. It'll be more simpler and easier to use. Probably just snap some piece in.

DonkeyWalrus3000d ago

No he's saying you won't be swapping out parts at all, but they'll release an upgraded Xbox with a bit more power.

MasterCornholio2999d ago

Basically what Phil is saying is that he's planning on shortening the life span of Xbox systems. Instead of buying a new system every 6-7 years you will have to buy them more often in order to keep up with the latest games.

Think about an Xbox system that gets released every 2-3 years instead of 6-7 years.

BossBattle2999d ago (Edited 2999d ago )

Phil didn't say there wouldn't be upgradeable consoles. He didn't rule that out. People are misinterpreting his last interview. He said someone asked would you have to open up the Xbox to upgrade individual pieces. Basically he's saying it won't be complex where you have to open it up and upgrade like a pc. So it'll be an easier instead of using an screwdriver. If they have some type of port where you connect other pieces that'll be user friendly. MS is not going to make you buy a new Xbox every few years to keep up with the latest games. It's more about you having options. But I'd love to see them release a new xbox every year like the iPhone does. And they all play the same game but at different performance levels. That way we're not stuck with inferior tech for 5+ years.

rainslacker2999d ago

Wait...so he's saying the screwdriver will be an additional purchase? Stupid nickel and dime business plans./s

marquisray3000d ago

So you will be able to play playstation games on pc? Soon is that ok but if Microsoft announce anything its end of the world lol

Clunkyd3000d ago (Edited 3000d ago )

You do realize a PS4 is still needed in order to stream them on PC.

eyeDEVOUR3000d ago

Why would you even want to stream ps4 to pc? Since you already have the ps4 why not use it by itself? The point of devices like steamlink are to get away from the desk and play from the comfort of your couch, so why would you want to do the opposite?

rainslacker2999d ago

You could play them at work on your lunch break, or at a friends house, or something. I play my Vita at work with remote play quite often when I don't have a Vita specific game I want to get into. Wouldn't mind doing it on my computer screen instead....or through the projector that's hooked up to my computer in my office.

Goldby2999d ago

or while you are aplaying ps4 and someone else wants to watch the tv. boom keep it going on pc

eyeDEVOUR2999d ago

@rainslacker and Goldby

Those are both good points. Ty
