Microsoft Close to MGS4, FF13 Deals?

EMagLive.com has received multiple reports over the last few days from sources who wish to remain anonymous that Microsoft is making a largely successful bid for two of the PlayStation 3's most anticipated third-party exclusives: Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

The reports of Final Fantasy Versus XIII heading to the 360 have been circulating for nearly the last month after it was revealed that at least parts of the White Engine were being ported to Microsoft's console. Speaking to EMagLive, they were told by a source close to Microsoft that the Redmond company was in productive discussions with the Japanese developer Square Enix to "at least get [Final Fantasy 13] as a timed multiplatform and at most get the game as a simultaneous release".

Microsoft is doing such a disservice to the gaming community, including the xbots. Forget about their continuation to knowingly release a malfuntioning product and making this once decent industry into a corrupt, vile one. The main disservice is in restricting gaming graphics to it's slow 60mph maximum speed with these sneaky dirty little deals and secret handshakes in dark alleys because developers will directly or indirectly want to focus their time on the xbox360 which only runs at 60mph max, as we have witnessed with Halo 3 and Ninja Gaiden 2.

If either of these games will come to the xbox360, expect to see lots of blocky sqaure mountains, oversaturated bloom lighting, plastic looking characters, cardboard box tree trunks, blurred objects and other artistic smoke & mirrors (shorten game length and darken everything like gears of war). And miraculous perfect 10's coming out of every reviewers ass. If MGS4 will come out for the xbox360 (timed exclusive or not), it will have subpar graphics compared to the Final Fintasy XIII if that square enix game remains a PS3 exclusive.

In fact, it's my assumption that, based on the most recent trailers compared to the earlier trailers of MGS4, they're positioning the game to possibly cross over to the xbox360. I've noticed that the graphics in the most recent trailers aren't really that good, which is a small clue that it might somehow cross over to the xbox360 at the moment. It's not guaranteed to cross over, but it's being "positioned" to, if the any deals go through, based on the graphics I've been seeing in the latest trailers. The few pics shown on FFXIII are breath taking. Therefore, I'm confident that it will most likely be the true PS3 exclusive. MGS4 deserves better than 60mph. I'd like it to stay exclusive to the PS3 forever, otherwise, expect to see a drop in overal graphics for BOTH SYSTEMS.

Get that xbox360 hunk of 60 mph junk out of the way so the PS3 lamborghinni can have room to go 600 to 800 mph. Unfortunately, the 60mph hunk of junk xbox360 is in the way because it got to the street first and is blocking traffic. Everyone is now late to work and school and upset and honking their horns. Get Microsoft out of the way. It's doing a disservice to ALL GAMERS, XBOTS INCLUDED, by restricting gaming graphics for this gen.

If the 360 is holding back the graphics for games of this generation, how come the 360 exclusives like Mass Effect, Bioshock and Gears of war look better than anything that is out on the PS3? Not only that, how come almost all multiplatform games look better on the 360 than on the PS3?

I know Sony have some strong titles up their sleeve like MGS4 and GT5, but people seem to forget that MS has loads of titles for 08 as well. Ninja Gaiden 2 will be amazing, and look amazing even though many of you try to deny it. It's OK for Killzone 2 to be at beta stage, but not for Ninja Gaiden 2.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of Splinter Cell: Conviction, Alan Wake (killer), Banjo Threeie, Fable 2, Naruto(coming this year), Lost Odyssey, Top Spin 3, Elveon (where are you?), Huxley, Halo Wars etc etc etc. And that's just some of the exclusives...

You are an idiot - I don't know why you keep posting the same crap over and over. The GPU on the XBOX 360 is superior to the GPU on the PS3. Basically, once you consider everything, the two machines are roughly equal in capabilities but the XBOX 360 is easier to program for.

For the rest - this is only a rumor but there is a big difference between MS and Sony - MS has the money to encourage Japanese developers to develop for their console. At this point in time I am not sure how much it is worth to pay developers to develop for your console but MS is concerned about the next generation - they have a weak presence in Japan and it might be worth 20-40 million to get a couple of extremely popular developers to jump on board. If nothing else it makes it very difficult to find a reason to buy a PS3 over a XBOX 360 when the big games are available for both consoles.

Will this happen - not so sure. But it is interesting to think about.

The MGS4 graphics on the most recent trailers are extremely bad compared to the first few trailers that ended with Beauty & the Beast. This suggests that Kojima is now positioning this game with an xbox360 crossover possibility in the back of his mind, just in case one of Microsoft's dirty deals goes through. It's a dirty deal because what could've once been a high level graphics showcase this generation will be dumbed down to Microsoft's xbox360's 60mph lemon car's max speed as with every non Sony first party and Insomniac games we've seen this generation so far. Again, this is a disservice to all gamers this generation because the car up in front is slow and blocking traffic, creating a huge clog in the freeway for EVERYONE, even the xbots.

The PS3 and all gamers would like to see MGS4 and all games coming out this generation to be at 600mph - 800mph speed, but the hunk of junk xbox360 upfront got to the freeway early and keeps on blocking the PS3's way. If this keeps up, all games, even FINAL FANTASY XIII, will look like Halo 3 or Gears of War...

...What a hindrance to the entire gaming industry's graphical progress because of the selfish reasons of one company wanting to win for winning's sake rather than to benefit the entire gaming community. Greedy.

This generation should not be capped off at Halo3, Gears of War, or Ninja Gaiden 2 or Mass Effect's graphics. Look at Motorstorm, Resistance, Final Fantasy XIII, Grand Turismo 5, Killzone 2, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank, and even LAIR as indications to what every multiplatform or xbox360 exclusive game might've looked like graphically if developers didn't develop with the xbox360 in mind, whether multiplatform or exlusive to the xbox360. The above PS3 games are all led by Sony's first party developers and the loyals like Insomniac.

Because Final Fantasy xiii has breakthrough graphics never before seen outside of blockbuster animated movies, that is tremendous assurance that it's the only true exclusive to the PS3. The recent graphical downgrade in the MGS4 trailers, however, suggest that it might go multiplatform at some point -- if and only if any deals go through. Kojima could be dumming down the graphics just in case --> to future proof for the xbox360, so to speak...

And that, again, is Microsoft's biggest crime this generation, restricting directly or indirectly the overall quality of this generation's graphics outside of the games developed by Sony's first party developers or Insomniac. Almost all the ports are capped off at or near the xbox360's level of performance because of some perceived financial incentives to the developers. Microsoft either paid them, or they want to develop with the xbox360 in mind because it has a larger user base for now because it got to the freeway earlier than more powerful consoles. But the xbox360 is -- as shown by the graphics of Ninja Gaiden 2, Halo 3, Mass Effect, GRAW2, and all multiport games, and now possibly MGS4 too -- causing a huge early morning graphical traffic jam and slowdown because of its engine limitations. The xbox360 should get out of the way rather than selfishly (selfishly, selfishly) capping this generation's graphics at 45mph to 60mph. There are 600mph to 800mph beasts ready to plow on through.

First off IMO Heavenly Sword looks way better than these games. That being said, all three of these games use the exact same engine. Unreal 3 hasn't been released yet and it's supposed to look better than any other game that uses this engine. (Hence: UNREAL ENGINE) So wait for UT3 to come out then see if those games look better than anything on the Playstation 3.

You just pointed out the major issue in MS's campaign to secure these titles. And you know what, I'm starting to think these titles will end up on the X360. However, I am really concerned with the unorthodox methods MS in employing to get their outcome. They paid $50M to Rockstar for exclusive content on a game which will appear on a competitors machine. Developing GTA probably did not even cost $50M. They will probably offer $100M each for these games to appear on the X360. Granted they have the money to pull this off, and a rational person (the developers) would be fools not to take these offers especially when the game is already developed for. However, this is outrageous at best. MS's financial force will have an impact on this industry that will last a long time, and I truly feel that gamers will ultimately suffer as a result. The gaming industry should not turn into a PC software based war, such as the one MS is fighting with McAfee and Symantec (past example Netscape v IE). Ironically, every product which has been challenged by MS's brute financial force has been superior to the product MS is offering, but the consumer ends up with MS's product. If MS thinks flooding the market will raise their market share, they are absolutley correct, it will. If they think they are doing the gaming industry justice, they are absolutely wrong. MS doesn't believe in coexistence. They believe in total domination. As a result, we the consumer are left with inferior products. Frankly, my year long hesitation to get an X360 was primarily due to this. I eventually got one for the games that were coming out this year. However, I felt like I didn't want to support this company that has a tendancy of ruining functional industries. I've experienced 2 system crashes/replacements, and just shook my head both times. It reminded me of "Fatal Error" on previous windows OS's. Everyone just sucked it up and took it from MS for years. What should I do when I've already invested my financial resources into this system? If they infact get these titles, I won't mind. But what I will mind is the means at which they obtained them, which will be with unorthodox amounts of money. This is one major difference between Sony/Nintendo and MS. Sony/Nintendo have a history of investing in a game alongside the developer. They have financially supported products for the cost of development, so that a certain game remains great and exclusive to their console. But how can they keep this up if someone is offering 2, 3, 5, 10 times the amount of the cost of development. They can't and they won't. This will oversaturate the industy. Competition as we know it, which is great for the consumer, will turn to a streamlined industry with all games appearing on all consoles, which is horrible for the consumer.

And finally, there is something nostalgic that certain games appear exclusively on competing consoles. Halo would not appear right on PS3, Mario would not appear right on X360/PS3, and MSG and FF just won't be the same if on X360.

Sony didn't buy the FF franchise, Square wanted a bigger storage medium and they knew that, cartridge or CD, they would need more than one. CD was the cheapest way to go, so they went with PSOne.

Sony is spreading deliberate rumors to hype up their own exclusives. By cooking up such rumors, Sony think they can create the expectations and demands for those two titles. Any sort of rumor to keep those two games in the limelight, make people talk about them and get excited about them, and up their profiles is good (for Sony and PS3.)

Which, in a way, is a devious, sinister chicanery to hype their own exclusives.

It's okay if you don't want to identify your sources - but you are putting up your own reputation and credibility to back up your claims.

Why would Sony submit these false rumors? That is the dumbest explanation yet. By stating that these games are going to go multiplatform, they would essentially be stealing their own thunder per se.... then would be no reason for others who are on the fence about getting a PS3 to get one since it would be coming to their platform. If the rumors are true, Sony should fight to keep these exclusives (not timed releases either). I personally have never played the final fantasy or MGS series since I never like PS before the PS3; however, the MGS series does look great and I can't wait to buy it.

As far as the dumb@sses who state that the graphics are better on the 360 are just silly little fanboys. The only multiplatform games that I have seen and played on both systems that look and play crappy are the ones from EA and a couple of other ports (mostly EA); however, I hear that EA is in deep crap due to their performance record with their games on both systems (glitches, freezing, etc...) and this is a problem with both 360/PS3. I thought it was just their ports to the PS3 but finding major problems with the360 versions has changed my opinion on this (but I still refuse to buy any more EA products until this is resolved).

One of the main significant weights of this 2 year long rumour is that it would destroy the PS3 if it came to be true, and the reason for this was that: what would people spend to play MGS4/FF, $600 or £250-$450 and the answer was obvious.

But, what would people buy if the prices were exactly the same? What would the Japanese buy if these games were multiplatform? What would the undecided Europeans and the undecided Americans if the prices were exactly the same? I think the vast majority would actually choose the PS3 version (assuming the price drops).

This is the main fuel of this rumour, not what the companies say neccessarily, but the install base of each platform. Square and Konami need to make profits with these titles and they feel that they can only manage this, or increase this, with a larger installbase. If the price of the PS3 dropped, and consequently the install base increases at a steady rate, this rumour would die on its knees in the eyes of alot of people.

Square and Konami have no preference for the 360 other than this, yet they're preference for the PS3 is its general brand appeal, especially in their home territories of Asia which these games sell amazing well. I hope this rumour picks up and puts pressure on Sony dropping the price.

Halo 3 is the only game that features a whole bunch of enemies, that's why it runs in 640p, has framerate issues and not the best of graphics. If you ever played a FF game you would know that the enviroments are massive not like gears...

I think these rumors are a pathetic effort to cast a shadow over these exclusives and prevent people that have an x360 to go buy a ps3 just for these games. I played the single player on a friends 360 last night, and i'm sorry but i was not impressed. Certain parts were ok, but other then that, graphics were poor, shaders were awful, way to much hdr bloom.

This has to be the biggest hit piece I have seen in a looooong time. People haven't even cleaned up the trash off of the TGS floor before random, insignificant sites start lighting up the rumor mill.

So, lets weigh the facts opposed to this rumor shall we?

E3 2006 and 2007 - Both trailers of MGS4 and Fabula Nova Crystallis say "Only on Playstation 3" at the end of them. Followed by numerous comments from Nomura and Kojima that it remains a PS3 exclusive.

TGS 2007 - MGS4 trailer (once again Playstation 3) and then you have the FFXIII trailers which specifically say "Only on PS3" at the end of them. That should have ended it right there.

Nomura himself practically gushes over the PS3 in an interview and reiterates ONCE AGAIN that FFXIII is a PS3 exclusive and he even goes on to say that only with the PS3 has the game been able to reach what he has dreamed for it.

Kojima goes on to gush about the rumble features of the new PS3 controller and during TGS he explains that whathe has in store for the game it can only be done on the PS3. He has stated this many times.

So, we have 3 game shows (probably more but I cant count all of them) that show that it is PS3 only plus the two men behind the creation of these games and even THEY assure everyone that it is PS3 only.

Then you have this hit piece from a site that, until today, I didn't even know existed. However, IF the rumor turned out to be true and Microsoft was buying the exclusiveness away from Sony with these titles then I will be switching all my Microsoft products to other parties. I just cant use products made by a dishonest and underhanded company.

Plus, I'll even go as far as to NOT play MGS4 and FFXIII. Ever. You might think that is a little harsh or illogical but I will not sully my hands with products bought from dirty money.

Halo 3 won't make money for other devs, it's only made money for Bungie and Microsoft. Other devs see it and realise Halo and Halo 2 were the biggest sellers last gen. Halo 3 will be the biggest seller this gen. They can't compete, and so develop for a console with a lower install base but with no single game that will outsell everything else, meaning they get a share of that pie.

How many games in the past few years had a 10 million dollar advertising campaign? I don't remember seeing SODA commercials for any game I bought since well around FFVII (if you wanna count the xmas pepsi commercial that had FFVII playing). Face it Halo 3 was crammed down everyone's throat and that's why it sold so much.

It's not some end all of all games and to think that any other developer that wants a piece of the proverbial Halo pie is going to get the same treatment from the MS camp is being naive. Marketing success? Yes very much so, hell my Dad called me and asked "wtf is this Halo 3 everyone is talking about?" I told him my views on it and he said "sounds like another way to pimp 60 bucks out of you suckers".

Gameplay wise I can name all of the features and a coresponding game that has done better.

Listen Sony Fanboys. I feel your pain. If I paid $600.00 for a system that is going to go the way of the Sega Saturn and the Sega Dreamcast, I'd do everything I could to disguise the truth too.

Here's the REAL truth:
Halo 3 drops on Tuesday. Christmas is around the corner. These reviews that dropped today only solidifies what I knew was going to happen.

1st - The XBOX360 Hardware Sales start to ramp up in anticipation for Halo 3.

2nd - The reviews come out and they are unprecedented. Halo 3 lives up to the hype according to all videogame critics.

3rd - Halo 3 drops. Breaks all records in the entertainment field. Talks on all news networks speak on how HUGE the Halo Juggernaut is to the genre. Interviews, panel discussions, and articles commence. This brings in the casual gamers wondering what all the hype is about.

4th - Downloadable content is released before the Holiday season. Causes a second wave of fury amongst Halo Nation.

5th - Christmas Season hits. XBOX360 begins its six-month domination in Hardware Sales. The margin between the XBOX360 and PS3 starts to widen at a faster rate than anyone could have predicted. Every child, teen, and young adult that wants a videogame system can't find any reason to purchase another system other than an XBOX360. Having any system that can't play Halo is a waste of money.

6th - Around February 2008, XBOX360's sales hover around 17 or maybe 18 million consoles. Opening a 10 to 11 million console lead on the PS3.

7th - Grand Theft Auto drops. The PS2 lovers that have been on the fence about buying a next-gen console HAVE to go with the XBOX360. Downloadable content exclusive to the system is too much to pass up. And not to mention, Halo 3 is there too.

8th - PS3 starts to launch it's supposedly AAA titles. One problem though. The developers of MGS4 and FF can't dispute the XBOX360's commanding lead over the PS3 is difficult to overlook.

9th - Talks begin between them and Microsoft to go multi-console.

10th - The death of the PS3 is imminent.

There you go. Print it and file it.

Allow me to pick apart your "prophecy" Oh, Prophet.

1. XB360 sales did not ramp up in light of Halo 3 release. 360 sales began increasing in early august due to the various price drops on their premium, core, and elite SKU models. Even so, their numbers only increased by 25,000 per week. A good number, but still not even close to overcoming the Wii.

2. Not everyone thought that Halo 3 was the "best game EVAR". IGN AU and Gamedaily were among quite a few critics that rated the game lower than the expected ALL 10's across the board! prophecy that you speak of.

3. Halo 3 did break the entertainment record, but not in the way that your thinking. The game sold an estimated 1.9 million copies on it's first day, which is great, but 1.5 million were already pre-ordered months ahead of time. The actual number of copies -sold- on day one? around 400,000-500,000 copies. Metroid Prime 3 and Bioshock saw better opening days in terms of on site sales. How is this relevant? well, pre-orders are usually paid in full ahead of time and considering that most of that money already changes hands the actual sales data was padded quite a bit.

4. DLC is just DLC, but considering that Bungie has decided to move from Halo on to newer and greener pastures there is no proof that there will BE any DLC for Halo 3. Not saying that your wrong, but your making an assumption with no evidence behind it besides chatter within the corporation.

5.Again, your making outlandish claims and prophecies in which you have no evidence to even back up your assumption. Believe it or not Halo isn't the best game out there and it is more likely that Mass Effect will steal your babies thunder than Halo continuing to dominate through the holiday season.

6. I think you might be thinking of the Wii in terms of actual hardware sales, but hey, thats just me. Your assuming that the 360 will magically jump 6-7 million units 4 months, but considering that no more price cuts are planned and the MS brainchild Halo 3 has already "finished the fight" it is safer to assume that now that the furor is done the sales will diminish and become grossly front-heavy. I expect sales to increase again in Nov due to Mass Effect, but I do not expect their their overall worldwide number to reach above 13.5 million by Feb of 2008. Remember, it actually has taken them two years to get that far.

7. GTAIV will seem more appealing wherever DLC is, but even that deal isn't set in stone. Even Rockstar themselves have not ruled out DLC for the PS3. Plus, Rockstar also has two exclusive I.P's coming to the PS3 which are L.A. Noir and another un-named IP. PS3 isn't nearly as hurting in this department as you claim.

8. Weird prophecy considering that it actually contains no statement that warrants any merit. Sure, 360 will still have somewhat of a lead over PS3, but the AAA titles (which come in droves in early 08) should close the gap quickly. Not to mention the gap closing faster if the 40GB SKU is real and released. Besides, Square-Enix and Konami already make games for the 360...just not FF and MGS4.

9. Talks between who? Sony? To make a multi-console? Riiiiight. Again, your assuming that just in the course of 4-6 months that the PS3 will disappear, but considering that the PS3 hasn't even completed an entire year in any region but still has managed to secure 5.5 million sales is still impressive. In a matter of 10 months (in the US and Japan) and 8 months (in europe) it has closed the gap by half and has already sold more units in its first year than the 360 did. MS wont get a multi-console deal. Period.

10. The system isn't going anywhere and the claims it's failure not even a year out of the box is ridiculous. I smashed prophecies like this during the PS2 launch years ago. I'll be sure to hit you back up in February or March. I'll make sure to video myself printing and shredding your assumptions and post it on here. Just so you'll learn not to say things prematurely and without doing your homework.

After playing Lair, Heavenly Sword,Warhawk, and NGS. I'd have to say not. The PS3 is shaping itself as a well polished dependable machine. Also the games I just mentioned are every bit as good and better than Gears graphically because it shows everything near and far clear and bright with details. Gears kinda showed good detail on things that was right in you're face. There will be a story that will pop up in the next 24 hrs stating whether this is true or vice versa. While these will be PS3 only due to the fact MS only allows for 1 DL DVD disk to be made per game and their base doesn't have a HD.

Where as both these games are around the 30+gig mark already and require HDs to save data and install onto like Heavenly Sword, R* had to pull the 360 release back due to the above.

If they were ported you'd see FF and MGS stories change from a Jap designers view of things to a western designer view point, so the story will most likly go down the drain pretty much straight away.

After what happened with GTA4 nothing surprises me after all when you consider the money they made off the ps2 fans youd think they blink at handing us the stinky end of the stick....
So to me at least one things for sure its all about money and with twice the install base the xbox might look good but not has nice has the wii or even pc so the only reason for a company to switch from ps3 to xbox is essentially bribery imo. Now no doubt M$ has the capital to make things happen and they seem to have caught on to what counts (ie the games) so ya if they can get those games they most certainly will but I dont think those companies will be has cheap and very much doubt either game could be has nice if it were to go multiplatform.

What this could mean for the industry is that Both Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 would be on equal playing fields in terms of 3rd party support. Meaning that all competition would have to come from 1st and 2nd party games. Meaning that Both Sony and Microsoft would have to invest more in creating their own exclusives. It's a win, win situation for gamers.

I am not a fanboy, i bought a 360 at launch. I have gears, I want bioshock, I have halo 1 2 and 3. I have 2 xboxs. a ps1 a ps2 a ps3. I have read the halo books. I did want to finish the fight. I have the 360 carrying bag and the xbox carrying bag. I do not prefer a console. I buy consoles for the games they have. Without exclusives a lot of games would just not do it for me. If halo was on ps3 I would be like wtf is this?

And even if sony likes to use their money to do certain things at least they release QUALITY products. I have never used a sony product that has failed to fulfill my needs and more.

The ps3 games of it's first year or rivaling the 360 games of now. The ports of 360 games aren't as good as the 360 games because the games aren't optimized sufficiently to work as well. they are released in "good enough" to sell standards.

The PS3 will outperform the 360 in due time. This does not mean the 360 graphics are bad in any way as they are great. And will continue to be great for a long time, the PS3 however will eventually overtake it like it or not.

Sony exclusives can be just as good news for 360 owners (with the titles it creates) as it is for PS3 and visa versa.

Sony has too much invested in Square and I would venture that they are secretly throwing money at FF dev. I really don't think that FFXIII or VS. could be on the 360 the way they are done on the PS3. Sorry but it's true. MGS4 is another story, I wouldn't be surprised to see that cross over sometime, but Sony is much too invested in Square. And 360 owners don't play enough RPG's to justify a 360 release for FF, and you can say they do(play RPG's) but Blue Dragons sales are subpar here and in Japan, and it's a great game. If Sakaguchi could get over himself and put both his games on PS3 the sales would definitely outpace the 360 versions.

PS3 games CANNOT be ported to the Xbox360. It has neither the disc size nor the processing power. Square is oging to push the PS3 with this title, because they believe in making a good product. If its on the Xbox360 it will be nothing more than a PS2 version with slightly better CG. Theyll get hammered for doing that.

IMO it would be hard to convert MGS4 to the 360. It would take multiple disks, you need to store the control system on each disk, if every 360 had a hdd then this would not be an issue. I do not mean that in a flaming way, but if you have to retred through levels it could become a problem.

IMO if they are going to be released you would be looking at late 2008 / 2009, but I don't think it will happen. I can see another FF franchise on the 360 and maybe MGSO being converted to 360.

Why WOULDN'T SquareEnix and Konami want to bring there big games to the 360? The 360 has a larger world-wide install base than the PS3 and will for a considerable amount of time, M$ will almost certainly give them a bunch of cash, 360 gamers WANT these games on the 360, and Sony "doesn't pay for exclusives." Next gen games are expensive to develop, and according to NUMEROUS developers, especially on the PS3-- so to make any money on these games, both of which have HUGE budgets, they may not have a choice but to release them on the 360. Before everyone ejaculate on themselves over what they've been rationed out regarding Final Fantasy and the beautiful screenshots and what not need to wait for some gameplay pics before going nuts over this title, because time and time again I am captivated by Final Fantasy's always stellar cutscenes but always come back down to earth when you get to actual gameplay graphics, which are day and night in comparison. Hell, look at the Halo Wars trailer, it was beautiful, but I know the actual gameplay graphics won't come close. And then with gameplay, if this game is turn based I don't want it anyway. Turn based is a thing of the past and I much more prefer the Mass Effect style of roleplaying. Besides, if we take FF and MGS from Sony, even I would have to defend Sony and not buy these games for my Elite and my huuuuge HD projector..................... ...well, ok I'm lying, I would buy them....but I would damn Microsoft for their guerilla tactics in securing these titles...............ok, I'm lying again, but I will understand Sony's frustration. And I do love Sony products and their sexy design.......well, except the ps3, that mutherf*cker looks like a next grilleration Forman Grill! CoD2 won that hands down, looked way better. both titles were launch titles, I've personally played both and I own a samsung '46 inch HDTV. 1080p. Don't blame the dumbing down of MGS4 graphics on Microsoft. Sony is notorious for releasing trailers that the PS3 is incapable of producing in game play, and then later having to dumb down the graphics. Remember a couple of E3's ago (I'm referring to the one a year before Sony embarrassed itself with the PS3 price point, giant crabs and Riiiiiiidge Racer). They showed several trailers that were utterly amazing, and then the next year, those same games, while still amazing looking, were not quite what they were. I'm sure you can still Google articles on this.

Even so, the graphics will still be amazing for MGS4. I don't know what you're expecting. Obviously, people are hoping for the PS3 to produce a game that the 360 could never graphically produce. I hate to to tell you, but the two systems are graphically on par with one another. Granted, the PS3 can hold more data on a disc, so a highly detailed, long game on the PS3 may require more than one disc on the 360, but still, they are roughly equivalent in the graphics department.

Like one post above said, at the end of the FFXIII trailer at TGS, the words, "Only on PS3, " were clearly and boldly indicated. Does this mean that it can't come out for 360? No. Does this mean that a simultaneous launch of the game is not possible? Yes. Remember FFXI came out on the 360, but when FFXII was released on PS2 was there a 360 version? No.

MGS4 is another game that I doubt would see simultaneous release with the PS3 version, Hideo Kojima has confirmed that much. But in the end it is completely plausible to assume it could show up on 360. Konami will have to see how well PS3 makes money for them and what kinds of counterbids Sony makes against MS. Remember, Japanese and Japanese get along better than Japanese and American. It is also no secret that Kojima & Nobura regard the 360 inferior to the PS3.

Regardless, even if these games do come out for 360, they will have to be rebuilt from the ground up. The 360 cannot translate a game made for the PS3 architecture (just think how long it took for the PS2 port of MGS 2 to XBOX). It not just a hardware incompatibility, but a software or OS incompatibility, as well. Same goes for FFXIII. By the time these games got to 360, they would be yesterday's news, PS3's "sloppy seconds, " if you will.

The effect on the PS3 market wise would be minimal. Now, if MS were to fork over enough money to ensure a simultaneous launch, we would have to wait for the 360 version to be built before we got the Sony version, even if the Sony version was gold. That could mean that PS3 owners would have to wait for up to two years before we got a chance to play these games. NOT LIKELY (that's why this is only a rumor, and most likely a false one).

MS's interest in the game is clearly intended to rob PS3 of exclusive titles. Why all of the sudden interest in FFXIII/MGS4? MS makes me sick. This article is the epitome of why they are hated around the world by so many people, gamers and non gamers alike. Where's the creativity of building your OWN games venue MS? MICROSOFT IS A CANCER THAT IS KILLING THIS INDUSTRY! Atari,Nintendo, Sega, and Sony set down the rules for how to play, there has always been competition based on originality. Microsoft answer to compete is simply to buy up everything. The best example of this I can think of is, what the end result looks like. The end result? Simply, that there is no point to having any one particular console if the games for it are on every other system. Consumers need choice. That's what drives this market. MS wants to pull an "EA" and take the 'ol NFL license. So in the end all we have to play on is their console(and that's when things will get real ugly for consumers). As a gamer, what would we have to look forward to if MS got their way....being forced to play our games only on their defective system? They can't even supply us a stable environment to play these games they steal. Hell, I would just stick to my PC if MS did that.

Sony made the right move to acquire more developers, and this is attack by MS is exactly why. Hopefully these developers will get their exclusive products out before these MS deals go down. David Jaffe's new gig, Rockstar and others all have exclusive content coming out on PS3. These are games that cannot be touched by MS and hopefully they will be AAA titles that fuel PS3 sales. Next we have God of War III and Gran Turismo 5 that will sell droves of PS3's and fortunetly cannot be touched by MS. Also, I hope the developers for Warzone II can hear this...Warzone II is a game that if done right can become PS3's Halo counterpart, because if its done right and scores extremely well on average with all the media, it will generate hype. The graphics alone look better than Halo 3, but the gameplay need to match it. In the end, PS3 still has enough titles to give itself some separation from 360- and more importantly, to dissuade gamers from buying a 360 and buying a PS3 instead. But MS wants to close that gap as quickly as possible.

If Sony is smart, they will work hard to get as many exclusive, quality games out as possible (first party). That, along with getting that 40GB PS3 with the new price point out as soon as possible (Sony, we know its coming, you're not fooling anyone). Maybe with this announcement (if this rumor becomes official), we might see Sony counter with a few surprises of their own.

FFXIII was just recently reiterated as PS3 only at the TGS, and Kojima has also said on several occasions throughout the year that they have no plans on porting MGS4 to the 360.

I do agree that the business of buying out this and that is having a negative effect on the gaming industry, no matter who's doing the purchasing. Porting things to multiple platforms means less attention to each version, which ends up usually creating sub-par versions of things that should have been great. Look at EA and Madden. Rushed out the door for a dozen different platforms, and who suffered? The PS3 suffered because the devs don't have enough practice with the tech yet.

It's also been stated by various devs that porting something that was built from the ground up for the PS3 is very difficult to remake into a 360 title, due to the differences in the system's guts.

I have things for both sides of the fanboys...

First of all, the reason why multi-plat games look better on 360 is because it is hard to get the games that are built off the 360's hardware and then port them to the PS3's much more advanced and complex hardware. When you create a game, it has to run on all cores of a console, you cant leave one alone. No matter what devs say they're using all the cores, only a small amount of the extras. When you send data made for 1-2 cores then it goes through faster because it doesnt take as long to go through it. When you send data made for 1-2 on something with 8 cores, thats an entirely different story. That massive amount of cores can create lag, if you dont build it off the PS3's architecture. I dont want to go into extreme depth about it. So far, there are no games literally built off the PS3's hardware. Some are made more for the PS3 but not entirely. MGS4 and FFXIII will possibly be the first to do so. Maybe UT3 but thats doubtful.

Now to the PS3 side... who says disk space is really a big problem? Check this out. http://212.202.219.162/ the games there(.debris etc) are in KB size... and they ahve great graphics.... I'm not sure how they did it, but its one hell of a job. Sure the game is very short, but the point being is that disk space doesnt exactly have to be a problem for graphics. Just look at it and you'll see.

Now to the story,

MGS4 and FFXIII... on 360? Doubtful. Both games were basically born on PS1. Of course, FFVII was the first on playstation, but it was the first 3D FF. FFXI went to 360 and PC because its an MMORPG. SE made that game for more $$$, not to expand FF. SE is somewhat low on money, but not too bad. Now to MGS4... I know konami is really wanting MGS4 to go multi-plat. My reason, at TGS before the MGS4 trailer was shown, the joke koei made... my assumption is that konami wanted kojima to try and see how small the PS3 install base was... but regardless, kojima wants it to be PS3 exclusive, its his game, he chooses what to do.

For both games, MGS and FF are both getting most of their money in Japan. 360 install base = tarutaru size compared to the hume-sized PS3.. and the wii has the popularity of a Mithra(FFXI junkies would understand it... lol) Japanese developers dont look too much at the US except for a select few. Atleast the money-hungry ones do.

And for the record, I'm not a PS3 fanboy, im a PWii fanboy(PS3 and Wii... lol) i would've considered a 360 had the hardware not sucked, and it had the most disrespectful fanbase ever... and the most dirty corporation supporting it....

Stop being silly. If you want to compare AAA games that are console exclusive I think there are none on the PS3. Pure games - the XBOX 360 has a ton more, an a far more complete library (it should as it has been out almost two years).

In fact, if you look at the current line up, there is almost no reason to buy a PS3. If you include future line-ups then you may have something, but who knows about future games - sometimes they look great and then turn out to be so-so.

For this year, there is no reason to buy a PS3 rather than a XBOX 360. And by the time the holiday season is over the PS3 may be so far behind that developers give up. It is going to be close - if Sony doesn't release a $400 version within 2 months it will probably be too late - the PS3 will never gain traction and the above rumors will end up coming true.

In fact, I bet the money made on Halo is going to push a lot of buttons in Japan. Will the above happen? Hard to say but if you are a Sony fan you have to be nervous - Sony is about two games from being irrelevant this generation. But Sony could still turn it around - and when the price drops to about $300 I will play beyond - until then there in nothing that makes the money worthwhile as I have already jumped in.

In your opinion the PS3 lineup is better. However, lets judge who has the better games by using actual numbers that give a better representation than just one single opinion. If you go by sales and reviews the 360 lineup slaughters the PS3.

360 has 22 games that have sold over a million copies. PS3 has 2. 360 has 9 games that average 90 or higher on metacritic. PS3 has 1 which is Oblivion, which was on the 360 in it's first year.

I just want to point out, if nobody's noticed, that the article is talking about MGS4 and the FFXIII Spin-off Versus only. It says nothing about the main Final Fantasy XIII, which by the way, is the one that everyone is anticipating. I know for sure that I'm way more interested in the main game than Versus. I'm sure that Versus will be an excellent game, but I'd rather play the original FFXIII. Scratch that, I'd rather play both of these titles.

In your opinion the PS3 lineup is better. However, lets judge who has the better games by using actual numbers that give a better representation than just one single opinion. If you go by sales and reviews the 360 lineup slaughters the PS3.

360 has 22 games that have sold over a million copies. PS3 has 2. 360 has 9 games that average 90 or higher on metacritic. PS3 has 1 which is Oblivion, which was on the 360 in it's first year.

Those comparing 1st Year Xbox 360 vs 1st year PS3 are missing a HUGE point. When the 360 came out, developers weren't sure if the 360 was a wise investment. When, and only when it started kicking but, they got into action. Not to mention that the system was not even available in stores.

Bottom line; this war was Sony's to loose. 360 has games NOW. Many more than the PS3. PS1 and PS2's success was not due to exclusives. I'm not a fanboy of MS or Sony. I like them both. Imo to your question though, I think that if Sony loses these 2 games it will be one of the most detrimental blows to any gaming company in the history of video games.

This would show one important factor to gamers; Microsoft will be able to gain exclusives all the while stripping Sony of games that were supposed to exclusive to them.

Secondly, consumers wouldnt really want to buy a PS3 all knowingly that 360 has exclusive in addition to everything that shows up on PS3.

Normally I wouldnt say that 1 or 2 exclusive titles slipping out of a company hands would pose such a threat. However, in this case it would be more than a couple of games being lost for Sony, it would mean they have lost two of thier most loyalist console supporters; Squarenix and Konami. If MS can pry these 2 away from the PS brand then its curtains as far as exclusives go because for MS to garner support from any other company would be as easy as taking candy from a baby.

Pricing for the PS3 would also be a struggle. Sony would have to drop the price well below thier targeted cost, causing them to lose money on every console sold. Also, with bluray being the standard format for games, there wouldnt be a way to remove it to cut the PS3 production cost significantly enough to make a profit.

The 360 is great but I strongly dislike MS business ethics. They run over everyone from devs to thier own fanbase for the sake of the almighty dollar. Of course MS fanboys are going to disagree but at the same time look at how long and how many people are frustrated by bricked systems. The Amazing thing is some guys have already sent back 2 or 3 systems and still make any and every excuse to justify it and some have become so attached to the console that they have accepted the fact that its ok for MS to sell bs hardware. BS in a sense of reliabilty and with every major 360 release comes a sh!t load of frustrated 360 gamers.

I hope that this doesnt happen because well... it would be bye bye PS3. I would rather see all 3 systems run thier respective courses. The PS3 has the ability to push gaming technology better and further than any other system on the market(and if you have me pegged as fanboy of sony your wrong. Nintendo since 1890 is my team). MS has the money and power to potentially keep PS3 games from looking better or the same as whats on 360.

I strongly doubt Sqaurenix and Konami would do this. It would seriously disrupt the Japanese gaming market something fierce. The japanese dont like 360 because its a bad console. I have to agree with scottie, just a wee bit, there is no garantee that FFXIII being a PS3 EXCLUSIVE, but Metal Gear Solid 4 is remaining an Exclusive.

Hideo Kojima (god bless him :D) stated so many times that MGS4 for is coming out only on PS3, and his Production studio slated rumors that the game is not coming to the 360, over and over and over etc.

Anyway, I dont' think that kojima is the person who says that a game is exclusive to this console, makes people buy that console and then just announce a few weeks before release that the game is going exclusive to a cheaper console or going multiformat and backstab those who wasted loads of money on a console just for that game. Capcom already done this with Devil May Cry 4.

Metal Gear Solid 4 will also be on the Xbox 360. In fact, Metal Gear Solid 4 has been in development for the Xbox 360 for months!

The fact that Kojima-san said, "Metal Gear Solid 4 has not been announced for the Xbox 360...'Yet'" at the recent game convention in Germany caused the entire audience to start laughing, because everyone knows that Metal Gear Solid 4 is already in development for the Xbox 360; it just hasn't been "Officially" announced yet, because the contract negotiations are still being finalized.

Also, I think it's time someone pointed out that the day before Capcom "Officially" announced Devil May Cry 4 for the Xbox 360, they said that it would remain a Playstation 3 exclusive game. Obviously, game companies change their mind in a very short period of time.

Xbox 360 has technical specifications for Videogames that are significantly better than the Playstation 3. Some of the examples include:

Polgon Performance: Xbox 360 can display 500,000,000 polygons per second, compared to only 275,000,000 polygons per second for the Playstation 3. This is the reason why multi-platform games like John Madden Football 2008, NCAA Football 2008, and All-Pro 2K8 run at a smooth 60 frames per second at 1080p resolution on the Xbox 360, but "Struggle to run at 30 frames per second at 720p resolution," on the Playstation 3. That quote was from a review of the game.

GPU: The Xbox 360 has significantly better texture quality, lighting, shading, and sharpness because of the fact that the GPU used in the Xbox 360 is far superior to the GPU in the Playstation 3. T

he Xbox 360 GPU uses brand-new Unified Shader technology that is far more efficient than the Non-Unified Shader technology in the Playstation 3. The GPU in the Xbox 360 is Custom designed by ATI, and it uses the same sort of Unifed Shader technology that Windows Vista does! Windows Vista wasn't released until late January of 2007, which proves just how far ahead of its time the Xbox 360 GPU is!

The Playstation 3 was originally supposed to have two of the Cell CPU processors, and cost only $399. But when Sony saw how much better the Xbox 360 was, they were forced to very quickly redesign the Playstation 3 in a way that resulted in the PS3 being difficult to develop for, and very expensive.

This is the exact same thing that happened with the Sega Saturn. Originally the Saturn was supposed to cost $199 and be based on 2D graphics. Sega saw that the PS was better, so they had to quickly redesign the Saturn, which cause the system to be expensive, and difficult to develop games for.

Rather than having two Cell CPU processors, the Playstation 3 ended up having one of the Cell CPUs removed, so that a GPU could be added. The problem for Sony was that there wasn't enough time to Custom design a GPU for the system. As a result, a four-year old Generic Nvidia GPU was used in the Playstation 3. That GPU is vastly inferior compared to the Custom GPU of the Xbox 360.

RAM: Xbox 360 has Unified RAM that allows developers to use it however they want to. The Playstation 3 CPU can never access more than 256MB of RAM under any circumstance. The Xbox 360 CPU can access up to 512MB of RAM if there was a need to do so, because of the much more flexible Unified RAM.

Also, Xbox 360 has a RAM advantage because the Operating System of the Xbox 360 is much more efficient than the Playstation 3. The Xbox 360 Operating System requires only 32MB of RAM, which leaves developers with 480MB of RAM to use for the system. The Playstation 3 Operating System requires 96MB of RAM, which leaves developers with only 416MB of RAM to do what they want with.

Plus, the Xbox 360 has 10MB of eDRAM, which is something that the Playstation 3 has absolutely no answer for. This 10MB of eDRAM supports the CPU in a way that automatically provides anti-aliasing and keeps the framerate steady. This is one of the reasons why Xbox 360 games have a reputation for steady framerates, while Playstation 3 games have a reputation for unsteady and choppy framerates.

The only advantage that the Playstation 3 has over the Xbox 360 is "Floating Point Math" calculations. The problem for the Playstation 3 is that there are virtually no ways to use Floating Point Math calculations for videogames! The main reason this feature is included in the Playstation 3 is because it helps decode the Blu-ray disc Codecs, such as MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and VC-1. However, the Xbox 360 has more than enough Floating Point power to decode HD-DVD movies, standard DVD movies, and On-Demand movies. So, this is actually no "real" advantage for the Playstation 3 at all.

The Playstation 3 Blu-ray disc does allow more space to be placed on a disc than the DVD disc used by the Xbox 360; however, less than 1% of games require more space than a DVD allows. Proof: The Xbox 360 has only one game that uses more than one DVD; that game is Blue Dragon. All other games--even huge ones like Mass Effect and Oblivion--work perfectly fine on one DVD. And with long games like Blue Dragon, it certainly isn't a problem to change the disc every 20 or 30 hours.

When it comes to videogames, the Xbox 360 is the superior gaming machine in every area: Graphics, Online Performance, Online/Offline Features, ect...

I would also like to point out that Sony charges Third-Party companies twice as much money for Royalties as Microsoft does. So, before you call Microsoft greedy for trying to buy the best games for their consumers who own the Xbox 360, you might want to complain to Sony that the reason why the Playstation 3 is losing all of their exclusives is because Sony is charging too much for Royalty fees.

When you consider that Xbox 360 has the largest library of games, the largest number of exclusive games, and the fact that multi-platform games have either noticable or significantly higher quality on the Xbox 360, then there is no doubt that the Xbox 360 will remain the number high-definition next-gen console, simply because it offers the best gaming performance.

When the price comes down I will be getting one for JUST THOSE GAMES, I have no doubt at all because some of them will rock the world.....But no chance of earlier, unless a really stellar title comes out. Like an RPG thats 200 hours long that just screams OMG BUY THE PS3 NOW and blows me away.
