Deep Down, they know they will never be in the top 25 again even.

Deep Down..they know that their Prime was around 20 years ago.

....Deep Down..they know that the ton of DLC they have in their games made too many people avoiding their games now to become a top video game developer again.

Deep Down..they know they are almost OB-SO-LETE now.

Kos-Mos2808d ago

Deep down you don't know what you're talking about as Capcom produce more quality games you'd probably never heard of. And with a little effort they might take the western market (yes, that includes Europe too).
And deep down I agree Resident Evil been crap since the ok one #5.

Hoffmann2808d ago (Edited 2807d ago )

I played almost every Capcom game they released in the last 30 years from Mega Man in 1987 to SFV this year.. The last Capcom game I bought was the Sengoku Basara Yukimura Sanada game last month.

Am pretty sure I know about what I am talking when I say that Capcom's prime was around 15-20 years ago back when they released one great game after another.

darthv722808d ago

Deep down, capcom really wanted to bring SFV to the XB1 but Sony wouldn't let them.

FreddyFazbear2808d ago

Resi 5 was the start of resi downfall. The game is not even scary. 4 is superior in every way. The only thing good about resi 5 is wesker. and its a short game too can finish it in just 5 hours or less.

freshslicepizza2808d ago

first off they need to stop making exclusive deals like dead rising and street fighter. they also need to stop the dlc ripoffs. then they should go back to the drawing board and create new ip's and old ones in a balanced fashion.

bouzebbal2808d ago

Maximo
Breath of fire
Onimusha

And you will be the best for me

MasterCornholio2808d ago

@Darth

"Deep down, capcom really wanted to bring SFV to the XB1 but Sony wouldn't let them."

Sony doesn't own the IP though. So if Capcom wanted they could have not made the deal with Sony and released the game on XB1.

mechlord2808d ago

you seem to be butthurt deep deep in...

darthv722808d ago

@master, there in lies the problem. Capcom made the deal and part of that deal was exclusivity. something sony has said repeatedly they don't pay for. well... they do.

At least when MS fronts the $$ they don't lock out the wares forever but they get called the bad guy.

TheCommentator2807d ago

Yes he does. Capcom can never be number one when all they do is "drop deuces". I'd say you can't polish a turd, but Mythbusters proved that you actually can so I guess anything's possible, lol!

_-EDMIX-_2807d ago

@Hoff- Agreed! At least back then they kept their budget in check.

Last gen, we saw Capcom basically chasing EA, Activision etc in regards to trying to spend on HUGE budgets expecting HUGE returns, yet they are shocked when they are almost bankrupt.

Its not saying DMC or RE or anything like that is bad, merely that they are not 15 or 20 million unit sellers and Capcom KNEW this going into that gen. Now they are paying for it BIG TIME!

They got Nintendo, Sony and MS flipping the bill on several titles. Pretty soon and someone is going to either buy them out or buy their IPs as I don't think Capcom can afford to make those huge AAA titles like they made last gen.

I believe REVII is only even what it is SOLELY based on them NOT having money to make it this stupid Gears clone shoot em up. RE VII is them seeking to make a RE that they know they won't go broke making. They seriously need to stay in their lane and be more conservative on their spending. Not saying no Onimusha or DMC etc, but they should not be having theses MASSIVE budgets and if they can't afford it make it on PS4, XONE, PC, NX etc......they shouldn't make it on ALL PLATFORMS!

THEY ARE NOT EA OR ACTIVISION, they legit NEED to stop trying to be like them. If they only make it on PS4/PSVita or PS4/NX I'm fully fine with that IF it means them making a respectable return and STILL EXISTING.
Square and Sega have zero shame in making a huge AAA on 1 or 2 platforms on their own and I think Capcom needs to start considering only making games on platforms they can get solid returns on, as suppose to YOLO.

_-EDMIX-_2807d ago

@Darth- "capcom really wanted to bring SFV to the XB1 but Sony wouldn't let them"

LOL! Well...Sony is flipping the bill, why would Sony fund at title for MS?

Also Sony doesn't own the SF IP bud, Capcom is very, very likely free to release it on XONE if they want to, they likely can't because they likely can't afford it. Just like they likely couldn't afford to bring it to XONE, PS4 and PC day and date.

Consider Nintendo, Sony and MS are all flipping the bill for some projects for Capcom. That doesn't sound like a sound company to me bud.

XanderZane2807d ago

Capcom is done. When you need another company to step in and help you pay to get a game developed, you know your days are number. Deep Down we know that "Deep Down" will never be completed and released because Capcom is going broke. Yes, Capcom was well respected when they were releasing games like Maximo, SF3, Marvel -vs- Capcom, Bionic Commando, Resident Evil 1-4, Dragon Dogma and Okami. Since that time, they have taken a sharp dive into the abyss of oblivion. I haven't bought a Capcom game in over 3 years now. Last game I bought was Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen.

Petebloodyonion2807d ago

@ Darth, Master and Etc.
Didn't Capcom had a similar deal with Nintendo regarding Resident evil4?
Yet that didn't prevent them from bringing it to PS2?

ABizzel12807d ago

If Capcom wants to even be close to the best developer / publisher.

1. They need to stop making mediocre games. Almost everything they've made this gen have been mediocre at best, or lacking in so much content or substance, it feels like half a game. Even their AAA IP's have been nothing, but average. Put the breaks on, and really flesh out the ideas that made these AAA franchises great and fan faves for 10+ years, and rebuild and modernize/evolve them in terms of gameplay.

Resident Evil, need to be about survival-horror, not an worse version of the action movies with what are now poor controls.

Street Fighter would have been fine, if it launched as a full Street Fighter game, and not SFV 1/4 of the content edition.

Devil May Cry and DmC need to combine and make a love child, that takes 90% of DMC such as original Dante's and cast personalities, gameplay & combat, game engine (60 fps), etc... and mix it with the world, and new lore of DmC.

Monster Hunter needs a real next-gen console version for PS4 / NX, and maybe Xbox (it's sales are heavily JP based, and considering how XB does there it might not be worthwhile).

Marvel vs Capcom, probably the only IP they still have / had that is consistently good.

Those are their big 5, and they need to make sure they're always great.

2. Revise many of your other franchises, even if that means mid range budgets for them.

Onimusha, Okami, Power Stone, Dragon's Dogma, Dino Crisis, Megaman, and more are all IP's that have been sorely underused.

When the AAA teams are done with their games have them working on a similar franchise.

3. NEW IP, Capcom has done nothing good this gen as far as New IP goes.

You want to even be in the conversation for being one of the best developers / publishers start there.

XisThatKid2807d ago

Lol won't be for me not what they're doing with Power Stone franchise or lack there of.

pompombrum2807d ago

Capcom used to produce quality games but they've scared off all their talent. They'll never be number one nor anywhere close, one step forward, about fifty steps back seems to be their modus operandi these days. Get positive responses from RE7, one step forward.. secretly installing rootkits on PC game updates, fifty steps back. They can enjoy their 15 minutes of cockiness due to the reception of RE7 but then the cold harsh reality settles in when more tech sites pick up on this PC update and they'll be in full damage control.

MasterCornholio2807d ago

@Darth

"At least when MS fronts the $$ they don't lock out the wares forever but they get called the bad guy."

Sony did the same with many titles such as The Witness and Firewatch. Microsoft also has permanent exclusives such as Sunset Overdrive and Scalebound.

Both companies try to lock games whenever possible. Difference between the two is that it's easier for Sony to do this because of their much larger install base some that Microsoft should have stopped from happening.

Can you even name 25 studios that are better than capcom?

Hoffmann2808d ago (Edited 2808d ago )

Let me try:

In no peticular order:

Nintendo
id Software
Sega
Volitron
Namco/Bandai
Level 5
Double Helix Games
Iron Galaxy
Dimps
Eighting
SNK
Epic Games
Gearbox Software
Square-Enix
Koei-Tecmo
OmegaForce
BioWare
Game Freak
Blizzard Entertainment
Ubisoft
Arc System Works
Riot Games
Platinum Games
thatgamecompany
HAL Laboratory
Polyphony Digital
Grinding Gear Games (Path of Exile)
Crate Entertainment (Grim Dawn)
Nordic Games / THQ Nordic
Rockstar

All of them released better games than Capcom in the last years. ALL of them.

yomfweeee2808d ago

Hoffman just because a studio makes one good game.... doesn't make them some great studio. Grinding Gear games has 1 title since they were founded in 2006. I don't think you can call them a top 25 studio. There probably are 25 better studios and you left out some pretty obvious ones.

2pacalypsenow2808d ago

So releasing one game in the last year makes them better? some of those have not released anything great in years and some of those don't even develop games they just port them or make F2p games, those are better than Capcom? Double Helix Games really? Iron galaxy made the Arkham knight PC port and 7 days to die..

XanderZane2807d ago

I would throw in From Software, Bethesda, Take-Two Interactive and Larian Studios onto Hoffmann's list.

Armaggedon2807d ago

The problem with Capcom is not that they do not have the skill to make good games, its that they forsake making good games for using scummy practices to make a profit. They have even completely forsaken their mascot: Megaman. They are now a shadow of their former selves, and that is just the truth.

With RE7 looking like a brand new IP, no new Mega Man game, no news on Deep Down, DMC being ruined with the awful reboot with no new game in sight and no new Monster Hunter for the PS4 it seems they are just coming off as a Japanese equivalent of EA

Disagree all you like but you know it's true...they care more about money then us.

Deep Down....a game I want them to fucking release.

Angeljuice2808d ago

I know, it is one of my most anticipated titles.

DarXyde2808d ago

I have to disagree somewhat.

Certainly, they are not what they used to be, But many of their games well beyond the 90s are great. Viewtiful Joe, Okami, the Onimusha series, Devil May Cry series (2 was more than made up fit with 3; 4 was simply more of the same), and yes, even Street Fighter. Granted, a lot of their funded talent have moved on to other studios such as Platinum, but I think they simply need to be rightly inspired to be in a better position. They're much better at certain genres than others, so perhaps they just need to revisit certain types of games.

If there's a new Onimusha, I certainly will not be complaining.

Hoffmann2807d ago

Okami was not even developed by Capcom. It was made by Clover Studios that became Platinum Games later, they were simply funded by Capcom.

Indeed many of their games in the early millenial years were great still but at around 2004/2005 they slowly started to get worse. Remember how bad the last MegaMan X games were in comparison to the earlier ones as example.

Did you know that Capcom Fighting Jam from 2004 was the last fighting game truly developed by Capcom and not by a different company like Eighting and Dimps?

KakashiHotake2808d ago

Deep down, I need to take a dump

ShiranaiJittai2808d ago (Edited 2808d ago )

Kudos to you Hoffmann for not giving in to blind fanboyism.

Hey Kos-Mos you know what Japanese game series I would hear people incorrectly say was made by Capcom? When I was working at Gamestop these are just a few game series people told me they enjoyed playing and wished Capcom made more of.

Xenogears.
Dance Dance Revolultion
Metal Gear Solid
Dynasty Warriors.
Naruto
DBZ
Bleach
One Piece
Castlevania

There is just one problem with that though. None of those games are made by Capcom. Capcom is somehow the Japanese company given the most credit for games they didn't create. I have no idea why this is maybe it is something about the name. Maybe they like the anime style artwork of the newer Street Fighter titles and just assume all the fighting games excluding Mortal Kombat are made by them.

Now a question for you 2pacalypsenow

Hoffmann answered your question about 25 game companies with reputations currently better than Capcom so I think it is only fair for me to ask you a question to defend Capcom in turn.

Can you name for me 10 prolific Capcom franchises that make Capcom a company worth blindly following. It's fine to be a fan of a company but when they screw up or in this particular case make bold claims they can never back up it's perfectly ok to criticize them. When you blindly support them is when you get wonderful games like Operation Raccoon City.

Here I will even get you started. 10 profitable Capcom franchises since the companies founding in 1983

Mega Man
Resident Evil
Devil May Cry
Street Fighter.

Can you name 6 more?

While we are on the subject why is it that when the entire state of the Japanese videogame industry is in shambles right now and almost every major Japanese game publisher has partnered with another major company to survive. Capcom still has yet to do so?

Sega, Capcom, Nintendo (Konami is dead to me for how they treated Kojima so they don't even count) These are the only companies I can think of off the top of my head that make up the old guard of videogames that still haven't partnered with another Japanese game company

Now some would have you believe that they haven't merged with another company because they have been very successful on their own so there is no reason to. Sadly this isn't the truth. EVERY Japanese game company is suffering right. I am not happy about this at all we owe the Japanese game industry for allowing videogames to even survive past the early 90's. But Capcom is not excluded from this. Street Fighter can only take them so far.
You think Mega Man and Devil May Cry creators left because Capcom wanted them to? No they saw a sinking ship and left to do their own thing. Or Capcom couldn't pay them enough.

Think about it really think about it. Capcom doesn't have enough successful IP's to warrant a merger. They have been hemmoraging talented staff and IP's for the last 10 years. Koei is nowhere near as successful as Capcom and yet they passed up merging with Capcom to merge with Tecmo instead. Namco was their biggest fighting game competitor had they partnered with Capcom they would own almost the entirety of the fighting game market. Yet they partnered with Bandai instead. It doesn't make me happy to see Capcom suffering they were once one of the pioneers of the gaming industry. But when they make bold faced claims about how they are going to be the best gaming company?

That is when they need some humble pie to bring them back down to earth.

ShinRon2808d ago

10 franchises is an unfair standard, not even top 10 contenders like Blizzard, Naughty Dog and Bioware have that many.

a fairer measure would be some kind of average of quantity of releases, critical acclaim and commercial success 7th and 8th gen releases only.

capcom still wouldnt make top 10 but at least it would be a fair standard.

Muzikguy2808d ago

This isn't going to happen. Cap on will never be number one. Also, why do so many want to be number one anyway? When they get there, they become cocky and complacent. They're ruining themselves just fine way down at the bottom. If they wanted to be a better developer though that more people cared about, they need to start releasing better games. Stop milking things to death too. Resident evil doesn't even have a coherent story anymore because of all their releases. It's just "a universe" now and they make more and more stuff up to create another game.

Some things I think would help them
Release Deep Down already
Breath of Fire on console would be a great start. Stop rebooting stuff would be another start. Kill of Resident Evil and start something else. Use your IPs like Onimusha and others
Don't half-ass games like SF

".they know that the ton of DLC they have in their games" No.

The outsourcing titles to other teams, massive key talent leaving and them seeking to chase IPs like COD as suppose to keeping their titles to their roots and clearly over spending on many, many titles is what led them to what we have today.

I don't think it was "DLC" as many, many companies are making MILLIONS on DLC today, EA made well over $100 million on BF3's Premium DLC. I don't think its DLC. Folks don't need to buy DLC bud, if that was REALLY the case, we'd have many, many publishers also in the same situations.....that isn't the case. Capcom is in this situation based on them chasing other IPs and over spending.

They wanted to make EA money, yet were not getting EA sales world wide. They should have just stated conservative like SEGA and many folks last gen stated I was insane to believe SEGA was doing the right thing.

Flash forward this gen and Sega bought several teams and isn't on the brink of bankruptcy, where Capcom has already entertained the idea of selling their IPs, not even to mention SFV's sales.

Be hard to merely say this is about DLC considering everything else. Many publishers are doing JUST fine with DLC.

Ahahahahahahahah ahahahahahahahah
These are the same folks who closed Clover and ruined DMC. They've been irrelevant for years and now that one of their games (RE7) is getting good feedback they want to take over the industry? They chased their bottom line to the bottom of the barrel. I'm not sure why, but it bothers me when companies completely undercut their own products for years then, finally facing their diminished returns, claim they're gonna turn it around. They were greedy assholes then, so what's really different now? I'm supposed to believe they all of a sudden remembered that their entire business is predicated on the quality of their product? Obviously I'm still chewing on some sour grapes. So they better bring me a mind blowing DMC and bring Platinum on to do an Okami sequel.

sdcard4gb2808d ago

Dude, as much as you are absolutely right about Clover and all things Platinum even I, the one who despises DmC and MADE myself forget it ever existed... I have to tell you that nobody ruined DMC. It's just not being used much these days, which might not be as bad as we might think... Gawd knows, may be they'll unveil DMC5 in near future and it's just like the new God Of War (as in the changes are so drastic it's hard to actually believe that this is supposed to be DMC).

RememberThe3572808d ago (Edited 2808d ago )

Well thats exactly how I see the last DMC. They wanted to do something different and revitalize the franchise and they made it even worse. DMC4 to me was the dropping of the series and that's sort of what I'm griping about. DMC was already getting worse on its own, not in terms of gameplay but in terms of almost everything else, and they chose to help the series fall right on its face with a reboot that they're now ignoring. They've handled their franchises as if they have no clue what makes those franchises special. Now they think they can take over the industry? What in the world is telling them they're even close to being the worlds #1 dev?

xMANB3ARP1G2807d ago

I'm one of the few ppl that just loved the first 3 everything after that was just missteps

Muzikguy2808d ago

Hahaha, YES!!! Your comment makes me wish I could upvote still. I've thought this exact same way about so many companies. When companies get fans of their products they always try and make more money by catering to more people. Doing that though they lose the original fans. I say just stick to the originals. More will come of you keep making good stuff. You can't please everyone. The philosophies only seem to change when it's too late.

Every PlayStation Studios game available now on Windows PC

Windows Central writes: "Many PlayStation Studios games that are ported to PC get dedicated PS5 DualSense support, which allows users to experience haptic feedback and adaptive trigger support without actually having to own a PS5.

According to Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, it's still the company's intent to launch the bigger single-player games on PS5 first, before later bringing the games to PC. This might not be the case for multiplayer games however, which are considered okay to launch simultaneously on console and PC."

Very very early in development. Still, fantastic news!

Let´s GO!!!

Lightning7722h ago

I guess.

How come they didnt either let them go or sell Tango and others to another publisher? Not saying Ubisoft, EA would be any better. (Capcome would of treated them right )

At least it wouldn't be MS of all ppl destroying them.

MS really should let go Tango go like they did TFB here.

darthv7222h ago(Edited 21h ago)

one was under Bethesda (Tango) the other under Activision (TFB). Clearly each one handled the separations of their subordinates differently.

Obscure_Observer21h ago(Edited 21h ago)

"How come they didnt either let them go or sell Tango and others to another publisher? Not saying Ubisoft, EA would be any better. (Capcome would of treated them right )"

Perhaps because Zenimax and ABK handles such matters differently based on their own internal policies as "independent" publishers.

Whoever, chances are it´s simply because MS didn´t wanted Tango or Austin to be acquired by competitors and develop new bangers for them, giving MS a bad rep in a possible future. Which could also be the reason why they ensured an exclusive partnership with TFB and its new game, before anyone else.

Sad and disgusting. But it is what it is.

Lightning7717h ago(Edited 17h ago)

"Whoever, chances are it´s simply because MS didn´t wanted Tango or Austin to be acquired by competitors and develop new bangers for them, giving MS a bad rep in a possible future."

MS has a bad rep now because those studios are no more. I rather them sell the studio continue to make multiplatform releases, while MS continues to focus on whatever they're doing. If they didn't want Tango around they should separated from them or sell them to, like they did TFB.

It's inexcusable, they have options on how to handle studios they don't want anymore with killing jobs. Not just MS but the rest of the industry also.

Sad and disgusting sure how many will get shut down next year or this year even?

I don't trust MS decisions and motivations at this point. You have to admit they make one dumb move after another.

Obscure_Observer10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

"MS has a bad rep now because those studios are no more. I rather them sell the studio continue to make multiplatform releases, while MS continues to focus on whatever they're doing. If they didn't want Tango around they should separated from them or sell them to, like they did TFB."

Imo, MS separated from TFB because they didn´t had a game associated with Xbox yet, unlike Tango.

"I don't trust MS decisions and motivations at this point. You have to admit they make one dumb move after another."

Fair enough. It was indeed an epic dumb move from them to close Tango.

Still, all to be forgotten, like always have. This is not the first time a big publisher shuts down a beloved and/or successful studio out of nowhere and certainly won´t be the last. Do you remember Lionhead? Do you remember Evolution Studios? Yeah... both were beloved studios and yet, those companies kill those studios in q blink of an eye and got away with it.

Id venture a guess that TFB working directly with MS was a better outcome than working through Activision to get to MS.

VersusDMC20h ago

From the article...

"Toys for Bob spun out as an indie back in February after Microsoft instituted sweeping layoffs that impacted 86 employees, which was more than half of the staff"

I doubt those 86 employees enjoyed the Microsoft experience over Activisions.

Inverno19h ago

MS shuts down studios because of lack of resources and then helps these guys by giving em resources. Also MS is what forced them to buy their freedom in the first place? What kind of logic 😂

Chevalier16h ago

The best thing is that the company that is worth $3 trillion and owns the company instead of Xbox lacks resources. How the hell does a company worth $3 trillion making a measly $70 billion purchase they 'can't' support. Lol

Sciurus_vulgaris22h ago(Edited 22h ago)

Xbox’s gaming division seems to still function as 3 semi-autonomous sub-divisions, Xbox Studios, Bethesda and ABK. The three main sub-divisions can seemingly shut down or build studios and set up partnerships independently. This would explain why Bethesda can recently shutdown studios, while ABK spins off one studio, while building a new one. Plus, Toys for Bob could be spun off by ABK, only to immediately re-partner with Microsoft.

Chevalier16h ago

That's absolutely 💯 BS. Any sane 'autonomous' company would NOT put their games on Gamepass day 1 like COD will lose probably billions.

Also they're all under Xbox game studios so any autonomy is an illusion.

PhillyDonJawn4h ago

No, I'm sure MS can and does step in when they want something done specifically but I'm also sure they let them also work independently

"the total number of PS Plus subscribers across all tiers was 47.4 million"

That PSN number seems like it should be much higher... especially when you consider that PS4 alone has a sell through of over 117m. To not even be at least half that is rather interesting.

To the XB side, having 34m to an install base of roughly 50m (XBO sell through) or even 85m (360 sell through) is a greater percentage of unit to member ratio than PSN.

That's not the "gotcha" you think it is Darth.

^^it's not supposed to be bloop.... it's just an interesting observation.

Have you ever heard of a PC before? I hear they are pretty popular.

MS started lumping gold subscribers in with those GP numbers... keep in mind.

What. Definitely more os plus subscribers but that makes sense due to actual console sales

Darth the difference between the bases are huge your right but you gotta think. Ps players buy more games, where as the Xbox base relies on gamepass for their gaming. So it makes perfect sense

darthv721d 1h ago (Edited 1d 1h ago )

What makes perfect sense though? You say PS players buy more games... so then logically there should be more PS+ subscribers given the increased number of online multiplayer games in the PS4 generation alone. The PS4 was the first time that + was required for online play much like Gold was for 360 users.

Keep in mind we are talking subscribers, not simply XB/PS users. I assume you meant to say offline single player games, which is most likely true as well. That gen also saw a significant increase in games with an online component comparted to the previous gen.

I for one will be going back to essential at the next renewal. When I feel a game is good & right up my alley, I’ll check trusted reviews & just buy it.

jznrpg1d ago (Edited 1d ago )

I have the top tier until 2028 as they gave me a massive discount for all the years I had left but I’ll most likely go to essential as well. I buy my games but my kids do use the service occasionally. They do prefer to own their games as well since any game can leave the rental service at some point and they don’t like that idea. They mostly use it to demo games then ask me to buy games if they really like it.

For me, I will cancel it all together but unfortunately I still have it till 2030 lol

I would like to see Sony add a fourth tier of PS Plus for people who just want to be able to play games online without any of the perks like monthly games, store discounts, or anything like that, and it should cost $20 annually, $30 maximum. There’s no way I’m paying $80 just to play games online. Even the original $60 fee was too much, and I would often wait for sales to re-up my subscription.

P_Bomb19h ago(Edited 19h ago)

Essential is too expensive, I agree. We’ve got one Essential and one Premium sub. Dropping the Premium when it expires.

gamerz16h ago

Just let my subscription lapse for the first time since 2010. Will sub again every now and then for a month or so to access my old ps+ games but for me it's the end of an era.

DivineHand12515h ago

Let those numbers continue to drop because it is now too expensive. $80 per year just to play online. I noticed they didn't offer any discounts on the subscription or controllers during this year's days of play for the first time in many years and they will feel it when people choose not to renew.

My subscription will lapse next month and it will stay that way until further notice.

There were savings on subs and controllers here in the UK? I bought a controller yesterday in the sale..
It would be weird if those deals were not in other territories too?
