The 5 Best Reasons To Buy A PS4 - After E3 2014

Having indisputably come out on top at E3 2013, Sony found itself under far less pressure than Microsoft MSFT +2.07% this year. The PS4 has a significant sales lead over the Xbox One and Sony execs oozed confidence throughout the show.

That said Sony didn’t rest on its laurels and if you have been tempted to hop aboard the PlayStation 4 juggernaut then you now have five even better reasons to do so:

jaredhart3641d ago

No Man's Sky looks incredible.

JackOfAllBlades3641d ago

Whoever disagreed with you is obviously some butthurt CoD kiddies who can't accept that anything that isn't CoD could possibly be good. I personally think No Man's Sky looks very ambitious, I hope they can pull it off.

starchild3641d ago

No Man's Sky does look really cool. I already have owned a PS4 for months, so no need to buy one now.

RosweeSon3641d ago

Yeah I bought one on launch not because the launch games were amazing but because of the future Sony were offering so far so good and were barely a year down the line, the fact that all these ps4 games are outdoing the xbox has been reason enough for me to be happy with my purchase, free games every month and some which are brilliant all free every month, sure I gotta pay for ps+ but when I'm already signed up through ps3/vita win win, I also own a 360 see no need to upgrade it and also got my wii u 3DS, I wasn't impressed with what Microsoft were offering at launch and am no more satisfied now so won't be purchasing one anytime soon got enough gaming to get on with and there's nothing that says buy an xbox one yet except that advert with the guy out of breaking bad that's turning peoples telly on, that advert is selling it too me the ideas but there's no AAA quality games that I'm happy with yet halo won't do it either so think I'll stick with my ps4 that I bought on launch so that hopefully we wouldn't have the whole ps3/xbox 360 thing where ps3 is without a doubt a more capable console but because of the headset start xbox got and even with there massively poor reliability issues they still managed to get a 1-up on sony just goes to show complacency will get you nowhere ask Sony they fell from grace after ps1/2 selling over 100 million consoles each, I still think ps3 will go onto sell over the 100 million mark but there's no disputing for a good 4-5 years xbox 360 and Microsoft had a massive share of the gaming market but complacency has slipped in on their side now and again the tables have turned, I think we could have an original xbox on our hands here ie on par with GameCube and ps4 is dominant, I think Wii U could actually steal 2nd place but it's still early days and I'm sure Microsoft won't take this all lying down they'll just through some cash around but they need to do something as this isn't it. Fed up of reading purely biased views open your eyes and realise variety is key and never limit yourself to just one company or one brand unless they are paying you, you pay for there products shop around get the best deal and the better products, use your noggins/brains, thank you and good day/night.

UnHoly_One3641d ago (Edited 3641d ago )

That game looks very cool, for sure.

My only problem with it lies in the fact that I'm unsure of how it will all work and what kind of goals (if any) you will have.

A big open ended game with no limits sounds great, and some people might play it forever, but I know how I am personally, and without some sort of goal to shoot for, I will lose interest quickly.

Definitely plan on picking it up, though, it's too unique and cool to ignore.

LamerTamer3640d ago

It looks like a cool concept. The online only multiplayer only kills it for me as I am not into that. It does look more interesting than the standard online dudebro shooter though.

jaredhart3640d ago

I like that it looks different and fresh. It has potential to be something special. Only time will tell.

PS TV is not the PS4, so it is not reason to buy a PS4.

If you actually looked at the PS TV you'd likely find reason to buy one, but you don't need a PS4 to buy one.

EverydayGuy3641d ago

PS TV is probably the best casual gaming peripheral out there. I always want to replay some PS1 games, but don't want to lug around a console. The portability and the price, along with the back log of 1000 games make it an attractable piece of hardware for gamers of all kinds.

incendy353641d ago (Edited 3641d ago )

You make some good points, but I have enough trouble keeping up with current games, plus they want me to spend money renting games I already own.

uth113641d ago

no, but the PS4 remote play feature might be a deciding factor in buying a PS4 for some

DEEBO3641d ago

1 games with the ps4 having some nice hardware power you are getting the better looking&playing games.

2 VR even though it's not here yet its something to look forward to and brings a different way to play game.

3 playstation now with the way to play ps1,ps2,ps3 on not just the ps4 but the vita,ps3 and soon tv's it's the netflix of gaming or red box.

4 playstation tv is like having two ps4's but only spending 500 dollars for it plus it plays vita games and it's the size of samsung phone.

5 sony's playstation brand is as good as it gets for gaming.with 1st party, playstation plus, free to play, indie games,VR tec, remote play and one of the best gaming catalogue, you can't go wrong with playstation.

lahariko3641d ago

Im not going to buy ps4 nor ps vita until crash bandicoot returns

No Man's Sky Adrift Expedition Trailer

Introducing..No Man's Sky: Adrift.A lot has changed in the years since No Man’s Sky released.

No Man's Sky Is Easily One Of Gaming's Greatest Comeback Stories

Despite No Man Sky's rocky launch, Hello Games managed to turn it into one of the best space exploration RPGs out there.

darksky26d ago

HG could have stopped after making 3-4 updates and the debt would have been paid to those why are crying about paying full price. However, they have continously provided free updates for the last 6-7 years. No other developer in hostory has ever done this and probably never will.
There are many AAA games that disappointed but the devs normally move on or close the studio rather than fix the game.

-Foxtrot26d ago

I hate the whole concept of "comeback story" because at the end of the day it doesn't remove the core issue we had in the first place, that we were lied to, it was disappointing and it launched with bare content to what was promised for years.

Any bad game can have a comeback story if it's supported enough after launch but for me if you launch in a terrible state then you had your chance. I can applaud you for what you've done after but at the end of the day there's not much of a choice since most gamers would blank your next product if you ditched your last game so fast, it's not about repairing the game but spending your time repairing gamers trust before you launch your next product otherwise it would be dead on arrival.

With these stories and the games being updated, the only way is up most of the time so of course it's going to improve the game and feel better over all, getting better and better as time passes. No Mans Sky, Sea of Thieves, Fallout 76 etc but then you have games like Anthem, Suicide Squad, Redfall and The Avengers where the devs just clearly moved on, now if they have another product people won't be as exited for it, I mean hell Guardians of the Galaxy was a great game but because of the Avengers it didn't help its sales since people were obviously still sour at that point.

I still think despite the improvements to games like No Mans Sky and Cyberpunk along with being better now overall the games are still not up there to what was promised and hyped as for years.

If we keep celebrating these “comeback stories” then unfortunately it only strongly supports the concept that these studios / publishers can continue to push half arsed broken products out for the sake of quick sales instead of waiting until they are fully finished. We need to condemn this awful behaviour or sadly we lose all voice and power as consumers.

Sonic188126d ago (Edited 26d ago )

I feel the same way about Cyberpunk 2077. I'm glad you mentioned that. I'm not a fan of comeback stories as well. But No man sky developer was a small indie team compared to CDPR. It's worse when it's coming from a AAA developer

Nacho_Z26d ago

"Any bad game can have a comeback story if it's supported enough after launch"

You make it sound so simple and easy. It's not. After release Hello Games poured countless hours into getting their game closer to what they originally wanted, without charging a penny to anyone. That's not normal.

The reason NMS and HG are held in such high esteem and calling them liars is a weak stance is the amount of work they've put into it, for free. They're not chasing a quick buck, they've dedicated their lives over the last few years to giving their fans the game everyone wanted.

-Foxtrot26d ago (Edited 26d ago )

They are liars though...

We are not revising history here, I'm sorry but we're not

They built this game up for years and they launched it knowing full well it wasn't up to scratch to what they originally showed off or hyped it up to be.

"They're not chasing a quick buck, they've dedicated their lives over the last few years to giving their fans the game everyone wanted"

And like I said above most of that comes from the fact that if they had just moved on straight away nobody would have supported their next game. They've washed most of that sour taste away after supporting No Mans Sky so now they are doing a new game which more people feel like they can support and get excited for.

Anyway how can you say "You make it sound so simple and easy. It's not" and then make the point that "Hello Games poured countless hours into getting their game closer to what they originally wanted, without charging a penny to anyone"

This means that if a small team like this can turn a game around then big AAA games like Suicide Squad, Redfall, Anthem and the like should have been able to do it no problem, oh but that's right they didn't want to put the time or effort into it. They can do it but some people just decide not to.

Blad3runner0026d ago (Edited 26d ago )

"You make it sound so simple and easy. It's not. After release Hello Games poured countless hours into getting their game closer to what they originally wanted, without charging a penny to anyone. That's not normal."

People paid for the game at launch and got lied to. Now the game is what it SHOULD have been from the start (what people paid for) and we should be happy they aren't charging EXTRA? Its free because people ALREADY paid for the game at launch.

People PAID for what the game is in its current state (what it should have been at launch), not what it was when it released. Charging people AGAIN would result in even more backlash.

anast26d ago

"You make it sound so simple and easy. It's not. After release Hello Games poured countless hours into getting their game closer to what they originally wanted, without charging a penny to anyone. That's not normal."

They already charged for the full price game. All of that work is owed because it was already paid for.

JackBNimble26d ago

Fox ... sure HG made a huge mistake, but they have also done more then any development team that I have seen to fix the problem and go way beyond in supporting the game. And every update has been free, so I don't really get why you are holding on to this grudge.

milohighclub26d ago (Edited 26d ago )

Whatever happened at launch is in the past. By your logic they could have supported it for a year got it to the project they promised then stopped but they didn't. They're still supporting it to this they, they've released more content post than pretty much any game I can think off. More than most MMOs. They didn't have to go this far but they have and don't have any plans of stopping. All for free too.
Yeah they had a shit launch and they've apologised, learned and more than made up for it. I was pissed off at them at launch, but not petty enough to keep slandering them 7 years later.
You have much bigger studios releasing half assed games and fixing it later or even worse not even bothering.

anast26d ago

The DLC costs money. But yeah, people are hanging on to this one longer because of their previous reputation.

TheCaptainKuchiki26d ago

And it doesn't change the fact that the game is a boring procedurally generated environment in which your repeat the same actions over and over again with no real purpose. I hate when they say that the game became good.

thorstein26d ago

I really enjoyed it at launch and had every trophy by August 2016.

The experience I had is no longer in the game: It was just me and my ship. It was a survival game and the feeling of loneliness in the universe was pervasive. There was no way to ruin too far from your ship and, in an emergency, you grenaded a hole in the ground to survive.

I miss that aspect, but since then, I love what they've done.

Hugodastrevas26d ago

I'd say it's THE definitive comeback story

TheGamingHounds26d ago

Final Fantasy 14 takes that one imho

CrimsonWing6926d ago (Edited 26d ago )

Yep and the way they actually did it where Bahamut destroyed the original FF14 and the realm was “reborn” seals it as the best way to do something like this, lol.

Oh great another story about the cleanest shirt in a bin of dirty laundry.

LittleBigPlanet 3 Servers Are Officially Shut Down 'Indefinitely,' Sony Confirms

Sony has confirmed that LittleBigPlanet 3 servers on PlayStation 4 will remain offline “indefinitely” following troubles with the service from earlier this year.

42d ago
rlow142d ago

Sad day, hopefully they’ll allow a third party server solution. Goes to show game preservation is an uphill battle.

blackblades42d ago

Sad day oh wait everyone that whining about it didn't play it or haven't played it in years and never was going back to it. Funny how people start to care when this happens but when it was actually up those same people didn't even pay attention to it.

rlow142d ago (Edited 42d ago )

First, you don’t know who has or hasn’t played it. So that’s your assumption. Secondly, even if people haven’t played it in awhile, it’s still nostalgia. Those memories of sharing your creation and having fun playing other peoples creations. Third, no game out there is really like this or as iconic. Today if they made this they would nickel and dime the whole way through and it would launch broken.

Cacabunga42d ago

Reason why i really dislike online games.. they become unplayable over time.. LBP story mode is actually only a tutorial

_Decadent_Descent42d ago

How would you know who's played it or not? What about those who get into games years after their release? They can't now. Besides, and more importantly, this sets a bad precedent across the industry when it comes to game preservation and people's ability to enjoy what they've paid for.

blackblades42d ago (Edited 42d ago )

People still play it but not a lot probably a fee people and I know you 2 guys haven't played it in a long time. If the server was doing so good it wouldnt be shut down. As I said the same people that whine and cry saying bad things on Sony etc are the same ones that havent or stopped playing a certain game in years. Let me ask you guys straight up and y'all tell the truth have you guys played it recently and when you did for how long did you play it.

SonyStyled41d ago

@blackblades “ Let me ask you guys straight up and y'all tell the truth have you guys played it recently and when you did for how long did you play it.”

Whatever “straight up” and “y’all” is, I can tell you the “truth” to answer your question.

I’ve been playing LBP2 for the past 5 years, I have 10 levels to Ace in a row and a coupe more hours in create mode for platinum. I played LBP2 earlier today in crate mode.

It sucked when LBP 1 and 2 servers were closed on PS3, but all those creations were still playable on PS4 LBP3.

Every level creation since LBP1 can’t be played now

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 41d ago
CDbiggen41d ago (Edited 41d ago )

Just disappointing. I have such nostalgia for this game and the user levels from LBP 1&2 and I already was gutted when they were shut down but at least they were on LBP3, and now this means I can't ever revisit those creative worlds again. All because some trolls or whatever decided to exploit these games, of all games, for some reason.

just_looken42d ago

What needs to be highlighted by this is that the series has had 4 main games then that go kart spin off yet sony let them all die.

There is 0 games like this on ps5 and to my knowledge 0 first party main kids games no tech demo crap

Sony purchased Media Molecule studio the ip then tossed it away letting it rot for over 7 years yet the community carried on until now were we have lost 16 years on all games of content along with no replacement.

Everyone goes on about ea killing studios but sony has killed way way more but its fine its sony they can do no wrong.

Before the sony blidboys track me down again go fire up your holy boxes all the dlc they tossed out all the trophies and all the user content needs a server side handshake that no longer works. Yes offline single player version 1.0 works but that is it.

Media Molecule was not cut i know but they only made LBP and dreams it was reported they just missed the chopping block
https://gamerant.com/little...

Do not forget the dreams game was tossed out 2020 but 3 years later support was pulled
https://www.digitaltrends.c...

All in all this is another failure at sony on a long long list in the past 10 years

Inverno42d ago

It's kind of hard to disagree when SONY has a history of abandoning many of their IPs. They killed Mod Nation and turnt it into LBP Karting because of brand recognition but left it to die too. They made their own Smash Bros only to rush the studio, and turn the game into an advert for recent release at the time and still let it die. They shut down PS Home for more or less the same reason, they left it to rott till it became too broken and exploited to bother fixing.

just_looken42d ago

This right here

Playstation home is what facebook is trying to make now but in vr that metaverse deal

Imagine if sony kept up ps home development

The death of playstation forums was also a huge loss

Demetrius41d ago

When they refused a days gone sequel and no acknowledgement of a infamous series remaster of those gems, I knew Sony slick abandons stuff, sure they still release good games but to an extent smh

u-bEttA-rUn42d ago

Their games were unable to attract the masses every game that came out the attachment grew smaller and smaller they advertise LBP for years the industry changed and then came fortnight... You want Sony to continue to support them which cost them money that they're not getting back from the studio.

DOMination-42d ago

Honestly, I think a well-designed LBP-style game would do better than ever in the current state of the industry.

People have short attention spans. Having something that is pick up, play a few levels and put down again is the experience the "masses" are after.

Keep it as a 2D platformer only with well-designed base levels, make it easy to build new levels and more importantly easy to access new content - personally I always found the way Forze Horizon 4&5 provide daily, weekly and monthly challenges via new content that they've built or handpicked from the community is a system that works great - and then stick it on mobile and PC with Steam Deck support.

Make it F2P with a one-off fee for the level editor (to stop people spamming crap onto the store) and have MTX for more characters, outfits etc. and there you have a live service game that Sony should be all over.

Do the same with a new Karting game and a 2D fighting/Smash Bros style engine and you have three bangers right there.

(I appreciate the N4G community will hate the idea of LBP being a live service game with MTX and I get that but I think if there's one game this model could work well for, it's this.. just imo)

anast42d ago (Edited 42d ago )

Astro's is similar.

Not enough people cared to play it, so they cut it.

Sony has never been a kid friendly console. This should be obvious. People go to Nintendo for this stuff.

DarkZane41d ago

All signs actually point to a new Astrobot game coming to PS5, so you'd be wrong.

anast41d ago

It's the game that came with the PS5

StoneTitan42d ago

Its on media molecule though. They did not want to continue LBP. Sony accepted that.
Sumo continued it. With a solala lbp3 and a great sackboy though.
Its not sonys fault. They dont want to force a studio to create a new LBP game.
But I would love a revival.

romulus2342d ago

For some people Sony can do no right either. You can play Sackboy A Big Adventure on PS5. So there is "a game like this" on PS5.

anast41d ago

They don't want to hear all that stuff.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 41d ago
Tacoboto42d ago

I feel bad for Media Molecule. For the ideas they have it seems they need a publisher that supports games like this and Dreams especially for as many players as possible.

DOMination-42d ago

Sony in the Andrew House era did support them massively though. They let them do their thing with LBP and spent millions marketing it. I remember one E3 they even used LBP to cover the boring parts of the presentation where they talk about sales figures etc.

And then they allowed MM to announce their game on the PS4 console announcement/showcase event and waited the entire generation for them to release it.
