We have just entered a parallel universe where Sony consoles sell more than Microsoft's in the UK and US.

This is a massive thing here in the UK. To sell more in less time speaks volumes for the demand for PS4. Sony said they were throwing 500,000 at the UK market before Christmas and they delivered.

Great numbers from both consoles. If any unbiased gamer (they must exist somewhere) wished for a console to be leading sales this next gen it would be the gamer and developer-focused one.

Giul_Xainx- AMD is doing anything but rolling in the dough. They're making very small margins on each APU for the Xbone and PS4, their PC CPU market share is shrinking, and the last two quarters they lost ground to nVidia on discrete graphics cards.

AMD was also downgraded by Oppenheimer this last week. Here is what they said...

Analysts are idiots. Those "small" margins they actually have now and costs them nothing for the next 5-8 years which they would not have had in the first place without consoles. I guess it'll never be enough for some. Those APUs will not change - other than maybe reduced in size; if it's feasible. Those cost will be minimal. The current cost will not include R&D but pure manufacturing and material costs over those coming years. A dream of a business model.

"The more for less argument" is only taking into account the capabilities of the consoles themselves and/or the games they will have available to justify the claim. They do not account for variables outside these parameters, which are relevant to the case being made.

Ex: all my close gaming friends play on Xbox, which is a big reason I play console. I also prefer XBL and the xbox controller over the Sony equivalents. That being said, despite the X1 being less powerful, more expensive, or even if you would argue they have poorer game selection, these aspects have made it easy over the years deciding to go with Xbox over PS, and I would assume others are in similar scenarios as this, on both platforms.

PS simply doesn't offer anything to me. the services, the exclusives, the controller - nothing is appealing enough to warrant purchasing the system. Even the "superior hardware" argument is moot, since I own a high-end gaming PC. In this regard, playing on console, next-gen or otherwise, always seems lackluster.

VGChartz.com currently (as of December 21st) has the PS4 as 3.4 million units and the XB1 at 2.4 million units.

I really doubt those figures as of now Sony has been able to manufacture 4m consoles in 4.5 months, but out of those probably only 3.6m have been shipped out, and if you take a high sell-through ratio of 88% due to obvious drought in stores (12% being in distributors warehouse, back shops, and part of it retained in prevision of Japanese launch) you get only : 3.16m sold.

Applying the same logic to MS shippment target figures for end of June (6.2m), one can extrapolate that they've only been able to manufacture 2.5m as of today. Out of those probably only 2.2m have been shipped out. Knowing that XBO are available in stores and in great numbers, sell-through is obviously much lower than PS4, but for the sake of argument let's say it's of 80%. Well, then you only get 1.76m sold.

We enjoy the consoles which have the games we play. Not rant on about the PS4 being the only console that needs to exist. Competition is what makes manufactures compete for your money and in turn drives technology. If you find value in the Ones offering, great. If not, enjoy the PS4 exclusives.

To me it's a moot point the PS4's 7850 is one tier above the Xbox One's 7790, as I have two 280Xs in crossfire for any cross platform games.

It is going to come down to exclusives, media, novelties, and online services which will set the two apart.

I assume your talking about the used game restrictions they went back on.

Steam, which has far less consumer friendly policies with regards to resale (not allowed at all), and lending (letting someone borrow a collection is in beta, but no single title lending), is far worse than what Microsoft tried to do. Yet, Steam has a big following.

I was actually pleasantly surprised enough people got up in arms about it to force Microsoft to change their policy. I thought they were just going to let themselves be herded into this locked, no ownership future the game companies would very much like to force upon them.

Still, I should thank Microsoft, because it riled me up enough to put in an early PS4 order that got me a system day one.

I was always saying PS4 will maul Xbone, guess I was right. Much higher numbers in the UK, when the UK was last gen 360 turf. These numbers are supporting the VGChartz numbers, where the PS4 doubles the Xbone sales globally. Both the PS4 and XBOX ONE have games I want to play, but because of the price of the XBOX and the in stock issues with the PS4 I am left with the PS3 I had for 4 years, the Vita, 3DS, and my most recent console the Wii U. I plan on getting all the consoles, but not at the expense of getting ripped off.

I went to Walmart again today to see if they had any PS4's in stock. As I passed down the aisle I saw the XBOX ONE set on the bottom shelf behind the glass with its $499 price tag. I thought to myself; if only you had a $399 price tag you would be coming home with me today, but that wasn't the case. Kept on walking past the Wii U section and finally reached the PS4 section. As I looked down behind the glass I saw one PS3, but no PS4. Time to go back home. Another day with out a PS4. As for the XBOX ONE, I'll see you when you get a price drop.

Where do I go from here? I will check Amazon every so often in hopes, a PS4 goes in stock so I can rush over to the store 4 minutes from my home and get a $500 dollar gift card to buy the PS4 from Amazon. As for now, back in into Super Mario 3D World.

This is one of the last "numbers speculation" posts these game webzines have left before industry source numbers start coming out for the monthly and year end sales.

Sony is giving the keynote at Consumer Electronics Show 2014 next week. While CES spun off E3 for videogames, there are still some videogame announcements made during the week. Sony might say something about how many PS4 shipped so far, and that will essentially be sold-through numbers since they immediately go out of stock.

Funny thing is that PS4 came out a week later and still sold this much better in a country that was dominated by Xbox last gen.

Today a guy said he was selling his ps4 for 50 dollars!! I just got a new ps4 baby, loving it so far. Sonys d1ck is so good. Damn.

So all this talk about the XBox's demise are greatly exaggerated. I own both systems and they're a blast and fun to use. I enjoyed Killer Instinct and the DS4 is surprisingly comfortable to play FPS. One system fanboys will still be happy with their system but the competition's system is not going to go down as easily as they hoped.

Considering the extra week of sales that's actually not very far off if you break it down to a week by week average....I wasn't expecting the gap to close till next Christmas...it's already rather close, and there are signs everywhere that it's much closer than people were anticipating.
