Fallout 4 expected on PS4 to stop financial suicide

By Daniel Chubb

We can understand why Microsoft would want to gain the unannounced Fallout 4 game as an exclusive for Xbox One, and this would follow a pattern the company is known for by using its large cash reserves to purchase exclusive games and timed exclusives for DLC.

Fallout 4 on PS4 to stop financial suicide – the opinion of most gamers is pretty clear since hearing the exclusive rumors, and that’s the idea of limiting Fallout 4 to one system would be financial suicide for Bethesda. This viewpoint could be challenged once you take into account the amount of money Microsoft would need to pay, but in our opinion it won’t happen and you’ll almost certainly see Fallout 4 launch on both PS4 and Xbox One.

Wow Seriously this was a test. Normally I give honest opinions and I get like hundreds of disagrees cause I'm not biased towards one console. Now for a test I wrote just "Sony!" and BAM! plenty of agrees! N4G is so low :O

HammadTheBeast4017d ago

It's about PS4, what do you expect?

Thing is, there is bias on N4G, not because of fanboys, but because people have logic, and they can use this logic to pretty much anything the competition throws at them.

Meanwhile, Xbox fanboys are in denial and are pulling up completely false or irrelevant info to make some claims.

MAJ0R4017d ago

Not putting it on PC would would pretty bad too because it's modders who fix everything that is broken in Bethesda's games.

S2Killinit4017d ago

its not N4G. Please go check other sites and then come back and say that. Every gaming site is the same story and why wouldn't it be? We saw who delivered games all through the last generation, I personally think that has more to do with it than anything Microsoft showed at their reveal. In fact the reaction to the reveal was seen in light of their lack of support for core gamers in the second half of the current generation. Otherwise the backlash would not have been so big, even though it would still have weird-ed out gamers for a gaming console to have a reveal that didn't talk about games. So yeah, don't be surprised, its not just N4G its everywhere.

psyxon4017d ago

So because you got more agrees than disagrees it represents N4G as a whole? Instead of the total people who agreed? Nice logic.

JohnnyBadfinger4017d ago

@hammandthebeast
Ha! You idiot... Logic has never existed on this site... Especially between the playstation and Xbox crowd.

And fallout would never be exclusive to either console... Stupid if it ever did. And who honestly cares about timed dlc?

Condemnedman4017d ago

Hammadthebeast

You really are stupid and you believe the tosh you put on here
Or are you just after bubbles from the sony crew ?

jujubee884017d ago

Sorry. I didn't know I wasn't supposed to do that kinda thing. >.>

CommonSense4016d ago (Edited 4016d ago )

Grow up!

All these idiots have to do is say "sony" or "playstation" and the rest of you idiots "agree" and +bubbles.

this community is a joke.

jujubee884016d ago

You know it's "next gen E3 warfare" with responses like these. Look at these temper tantrum comments, responses and downvotes. Everything is broken!

Just meditate, masturbate, smoke, or do whatever you idiots do to chill while waiting for the E3 shows to begin.

Geez! =_=

I don't believe Fallout 4 will be a exclusive. That said, you got to love these articles.

When it's Sony getting a 3rd party exclusive, it's good business by Sony. When it's Microsoft getting a 3rd party exclusive, it's financial suicide to that 3rd party company.

Seriously !!!

OlgerO4017d ago

No I have always hated the practice of getting 3rd party exclusives. Its basicaly paying a developer to get the game out of the hands of thousands of gamers. First party at least would have never existed otherwise.I like that sony had not done this in the past. There are however rumours that they are paying square enix to keep their games exclusive, and I would find that very evil.

camel_toad4017d ago

That would be a good way for Bethesda to kill off a large portion of their fan base. I don't think it's likely either.

zebramocha4017d ago

@olgero That doesn't make sense as gta was very successful as a console.

ps3_pwns4017d ago

no one is going to be buying a xbox one thats why it would be financial suicide. the ps4 is just better in every way and using logic should be the purchase everyone makes. but you got wise guys who want to go against super ps4 greatness awaits the console. i dont know why they want to but in the end you cant and wont be on the winning team with a xbox one.

harrisk9544017d ago (Edited 4017d ago )

This isn't about giving Sony props for having exclusives and coming down on MS for the same. It is about MS's penchant for buying timed exclusives for 3rd party games.... Not about TRUE exclusives. No one gives MS crap about Halo, Forza or Gears of War. They are MS exclusives. Period. Great for MS that they have a few truly exclusive franchises. But, every time MS has announced an "Exclusive" from a 3rd party studio, the PS3 eventually got it,including DLC deals.

Generally, the only "exclusives" for Sony have been from their own 1st and 2nd party studios. MS doesn't do that. MS has not invested in their own game production infrastructure, relying instead on spending vast amounts of cash to gain a temporary upperhand on downloadable content or time exclusives on games themselves.

But, as we saw toward the middle to end of the past console cycle, that dried up with the exception of SOME DLC (Such as CoD). This occurred as a direct correlation to the PS3's catching up (and eventually surpassing) Xbox 360 worldwide sales. Publishers can't afford to give exclusives anymore, even for the money that MS offers because it is not enough to compensate for the lost goodwill of 10s of millions of console owners. Does Bethesda or EA or Ubisoft, etc. really want to alienate an entire group of gamers? Financially and PR-wise, it simply no longer makes sense.

princejb1344017d ago

i remember this gen where MS paid for console exclusives, only to become timed exclusive later on in the years

S2Killinit4017d ago

I think the difference is that Sony 3rd party exclusives are either 2nd party exclusives or the 3rd party decides that they don't want to invest in all platforms. Not sure if there has been any instance where money has been transferred by Sony to make something that was going to be enjoyed by everyone, and make it exclusive. Sony doesn't seem to need to do that since they have their own dedicated 1st party developers. Microsoft on the other hand, hands out cash to make these games exclusive. There is a difference. They are not contributing to gaming. But in doing that Microsoft also reveals their hand to those that pay attention. The reason Microsoft doesnt invest more in creating games vs. buying exclusives is that this is only done at the onset of each generation. This is of course the window in which Microsoft is able to afford buying out exclusivity due to smaller install base. Later in the generation it just wouldn't be possible to buy exclusivity because the developer would loose money. But this doesn't phase Microsoft since by this time the gaming community is saturated, they simply stop catering to their core gamers, and focus on casuals and applications. Sound familiar? It should, it was their game plan with the 360.

Angrymorgan4017d ago

Dont think it would happen.
It'd make no sense, fallout franchise is huge, much anticipated game,
I dont think bathesda would make a huge financial gain over what it would expect as a multi platform title.
All they would do is annoy a large portion of its fan base if it sold to either company

YNWA964017d ago

I would be very happy if someone paid to keep all square enix games away from us.... Only tomb raider was good. Also got to remember MS needed a break through in the console business after original xbox and this has been good business for them doing exclusive content, Sony was already established....

Freedomland4017d ago

@OlgerO

Sony holds a stock share of 8.58, making them third biggest partner for Square Enix.
What are you talking about paying money to Square Enix.

Don't believe rumors.

tommygunzII4017d ago (Edited 4017d ago )

You won't need $50 a year to play it on PlayStation if it were exclusive.
If I were given an Xbox for free I still wouldn't use it because of Xbox Live subscription. Whats stopping people from playing on PlayStation? The controller?
Xbox Live is the X-factor. That's usually the deal breaker for me.

aceitman4017d ago

and im not being a fanboy about this comment , just wondering is this part of ms saying they put one billion into the xbox one , is some of that money going toward exclusive games like fallout4 .

PersonMan4017d ago

What a sad life you have when you feel you need to test people in the comments in a website.

Krosis4017d ago

You gave him an "agree" and a bubble , didn't you ? It's okay, you'll be alright.

PooEgg4017d ago

@TheSurg

So basically you were just being a troll? Noted.

YNWA964017d ago

They said the may 21 event was to reveal the console. Like making an announcement that xmas is on 25th dec but now showing the pressies.... And to be honest, what is hardcore gamer now, to me it is people that will never be happy, never impressed, and incredibly dumb..... They are the 5%.... Lets just see what happens at E3 for the rest of us normal people that play games the odd hour here and there everyday. By the way, I own PS3 and 360, and will probably get both next gen and will be happy, never upset and use both! What has been the fuss????

mediate-this4017d ago

I always asked myself that same question, what is a hard core gamer?

I have all the systems a back catalogue of games to last a year or more, and I dont play them due to lack of time and street fighter.

My older brother loves sports games and fighting games, but has his fill and is done, is he causual?

one my friend just plays cod online, plays and plays and plays, but just that game. Is he hard core? or casual?

I just dont get what defines hard core.

Or is hard core the P.C gamers, because to me being into your rig and having endless options to expand your gaming experience is core to me.

I dont like casual and core being thrown around with a statement on the two.

JsonHenry4017d ago

Lol @ TheSurg. Didn't you know N4G is a community made up of about 75% sony fanboys? you are no the first person on this site to prove it.

showtimefolks4017d ago

sony seems to be going after exclusive content too so let's see

miDnIghtEr20C_SfF4017d ago

@The Surg... that is hilarious. Ya.. N4G... Sonyland.

Codey474017d ago

Here Surg just to make you feel a little better

XBONE!!!!!

Jesus, need to lighten up about website initiations and disagrees.

ChrisW4016d ago (Edited 4016d ago )

I remember when people use to joke about why there were so many more Sony fanboys on a lot of sites like these...

It was either A) Xbots couldn't afford the Internet because of replacing their RRODed console so many times. Or B) Sony sheep didn't have enough AAA games to keep them busy.

To this date, I still wonder which one it is...

MRMagoo1234016d ago

You wanna know why there are more sony fans on this site...............because there are more ps3 owners WW , the more playstations there are out in the wild the more fans there will be , unless of course you are stupid and think MS makes the better consoles. You will notice unless you go to an xbox only site there will be more sony fans on any of them, thats because they make the better products and ppl like that.

Chaostar4017d ago

I feel like this entire article was written as a response to a rumour that nobody really believed anyway.

SilentNegotiator4017d ago

A person would have to be kicked in the head a few times to believe a rumor like that.

GameCents4017d ago

There's a rumour that Fallout 4 will be exclusive?

Blackdeath_6634017d ago

i doubt it, that would be like a big 'F**K YOU' from bethesda to all the pc gamers waiting for fallout4 let alone the playstation gamers.

DOMination-4017d ago

Well I thought ps gamers werent going to buy Bethesda games anyway. It will still cone to pc so they'll have to play it on that and dealwithit.

Mirror's Edge 2, Dragon Age 3, Respawns game and now this. MS are getting some great support if these rumours are true. Bethesda abd EA have been most vocal about pre owned. Coincidence? I think not.

Blackdeath_6634017d ago (Edited 4017d ago )

@DOMination-
if fallout is exclusive to XBone then it won't come to the ps4 nor pc. if they release it on pc then its not really an exclusive is it? also mirror's edge and dragon age are multiplatforms. both EA and bethesda release games across all platforms so i don't know what support to MS you are talking about do you mean there are rumours that those games will be exclusives to XBone? if so give me a link though i find it extremely unlikely that a sequel to a game that was available on all platform will suddenly be an exclusive there was huge backlash when beyonetta 2 was made an exclusive despite people being told that the game wouldn't have been made otherwise

DOMination-4016d ago

The term exclusive means it excludes certain factors, not all but one. In this case the ps4 userbase who said they wouldn't by a Bethesda game again anyway.

Thise other games have all been rumoured to be exclusive to x1 this week. Even EA will stop supporting Sony unless they do something about used games. Most rumours about x1 have been true so far. These ones probably will too. MS did say they will shock the world at e3.

Xenomorph4017d ago

There is a rumor, from some "insider" on Neogaf, if you can believe them.

Irishguy954017d ago

Is he legit? Normally people will say if he's been credible so far.

mrmancs4017d ago

Daft ppl who choose the xbone over the superior ps4 wouldn't have time to play a new fallout , they will be watching TV on there xbone. Makes sense to release it on a gaming system....

CrossingEden4017d ago

these types of jokes are extremely old at this point

How nice of them to give us more control over graphical settings as a way to *completely* avoid taking accountability for the broken Xbox settings.

bondsmx18d ago

Well, I still crashed like 5 times last night within two hours. So there’s that.

anast17d ago

I had to stop. The game is not good. I'd rather play Skyrim and that game isn't that good either.

I Think It's About Time We Realize Fallout 4 Wasn't That Bad

Ahmed from eXputer: "2015's Fallout 4 received harsh criticism upon launching, but I think it was unwarranted and the game deserves more praise than it got."

helicoptergirl23d ago

It was totally that bad. I couldn't finish the campaign it was so bland and boring as I recall. Got so sick of it. 1000 stimpaks on hard. It is very rare that I play half a game and then just quit. I usually always finish it. But i was so bored with this game I just stopped and never went back and never regretted it. Just thinking about that game makes me shudder

Furesis23d ago

That's exactly what happened to me too lmao
Fallout 4 is not a fallout game period it's a bethesda game

Vits23d ago

The comparison with Skyrim is mind-boggling. Yes, Skyrim has streamlined many of the systems that Morrowind introduced. However, it did not tamper with the core of the Elder Scrolls franchise; it did not diminish the freedom and sense of exploration that made Bethesda RPGs famous. Fallout 4, on the other hand, did exactly that to the Fallout series. It eliminated what made Fallout such a beloved series to play. There are no consequences for your choices, no reason to explore, and barely any interesting set pieces in the game.

It's not terrible, but it's a painfully mediocre game in a franchise that typically doesn't produce such mediocrity. So that is why people see it as bad, the bar is just much higher.

anast23d ago

They both feel the same because they are, it's just that one has swords and magic and the other has swords and guns.

anast23d ago

I'm replaying it now. It sucks. I'm about 30 hours in and thinking about quitting again. I am so tired of the dialogue I just spam a random button because it doesn't matter. The upgrade just feels like a graphical mod, everything else is not good.

Good-Smurf23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

I couldn't play the game as-is it was insanely boring and grindy and the grind itself are not fun at all.
Mods helped me stomach the game a bit better but after a while I just stopped playing and uninstalled it because the game did nothing after the first few hours to give me any motivation to keep playing it, it just became a mindless looter shooter with obsession in settlement building and defending.
Compared to F3 and FNV, F4 was barely a mediocre game it wasn't bad but it's also very forgettable entry.

MrDead23d ago

It's not that bad after 300+ mods that fix it's issues and make the game fun... but lets not talk about mods right now as they are f****d.
