User Review : Battlefield 1

Beautiful. Gripping. Horrifying. Battlefield 1 Has It All

DICE has really outdone themselves this time. I was hesitant at first and even insistent that I wasn't going to pick this game up on release. Battlefield 4 had one of the worst launch weeks I've ever been apart of and it ruined the opening experience for myself and others.

Oh how times have changed. Battlefield 1 grabs you by the ears right off the start with one of the best opening sequences I've seen in a video game. Really going outside the lines of tradition and showing the brutality of WW1 by intentionally killing the player only to switch to the next man along the front. It's fun and refreshing and a real eye opener and that's only the beginning. The stunning cinematic gameplay followed through into the wildly popular multiplayer aspect of the game which includes a new game mode that's a must play called Operations. Check out some gameplay or heck just go pick up a copy of the game. It won't disappoint. Using a yet again revamped installment of Frostbite engine, DICE has managed to create unbelievable visuals that in my opinion are rivaled by none. It's been a staple of Battlefield releases since Battlefield 3 and its only getting better.

When you factor in immersive gameplay that truly transports the player back in time and onto locations that look straight out the war and couple that with playing together with friends and being a part of large scale conflict you will truly lose track of time. It takes a lot for me to recommend a game and it takes even more for me to give a 10/10. Although I would absolutely recommend this game to not only casual player but the hard core fps fanatics alike I'm compelled to give this game a 8/10. Some work is still needed. Some special attention to things such as the games UI and less content in the forms of weapons and gadgets brings the mark down. That said Battlefield is no stranger to DLC that is made for the players and adds even more replayability to an already addicting game.

DICE Needs To Recapture The Magic Of Battlefield 1 In The Next Game

For DICE to succeed with its next game, it has to return to the roots of the franchise. Atmospheric map design, clear and defined class-based gameplay, attention to detail, and total chaos. Battlefield 1 feels like every rock, every glint on your sniper rifle, every falling brick from a collapsing church, has been painstakingly considered. So much care went into the design of the game, from its soundtrack to its costume department. To stand a chance alongside the behemoths of Treyarch and Infinity Ward, DICE needs to recapture what made their old games so brilliant, otherwise it’s all over.

"DICE Needs To Recapture The Magic Of Battlefield 3 In The Next Game"

/Fixed

...on a serious note, DICE needs to remove the Battlefield name.

isarai565d ago

Eh, bfbc2 was the peak for me, only ad dogfighting and the accommodations that come with it. Every BF after that was such an unsatisfying progression system for weapons and gear for the classes, 90% of the guns feel exactly the same when you unlock them, just felt boring in comparison. Not to mention the gimped destruction as the series progressed

Sciurus_vulgaris565d ago

I found Battlefield 1 to be overrated. The gameplay was simpler and less strategic than its predecessors. Battlefield 1 did have a woo-factor, but the gameplay got repetitive faster than Battlefield 4 in my opinion.

If DICE needs to return to the roots of the franchise then why would they look at Battlefield 1? BF1 is overly simplified and streamlined. What DICE should focus on is Battlefield 3 and Bad Company 2. Those two games were the pinnacle of the franchise.

BC2 was the best. they need to get back to that.

Battlefield 1, Hardline, BF4 Servers Are Being Taken Offline by Cheaters; EA Silent on Issue

Cheaters & hackers have been causing grief on Battlefield 1, Hardline & BF4 servers, with nonstop DDoS attacks among other things. Unfortunately, EA has remained silent about it.

-Foxtrot795d ago

Course they are silent, they are hoping people flock to 2042

gamesftw250794d ago

Maybe it was a inside job then haha.

jeromeface794d ago

wouldnt be the first time, titanfall 1+2 anyone?

PapaBop794d ago

Not even if they paid me.. EA always do this with old games with less money potential, if this was Ultimate Team, they'd address and sort it faster than stories could spread. Why invest time in their products when they will just dump it in the following years? Then again EA never could see the forest for the trees.

Inverno794d ago

I imagine after those games were given out for free a couple months back through Amazon, anything that makes people go to 2042 is a plus for them

XiNatsuDragnel795d ago

They want people to go on 2042. My theory

excaliburps794d ago

Nah. I think they can't do anything about it or they want to sink money into fixing it.

EA owns all BF servers so yes, they can do something about it but they refuse to because they dont want ppl playing their old games instead of the new one. Its EA we’re talking about here

pr33k33794d ago

if this happened in 2042, they'd have something to say. which is weird, considering battlefield 1 has more players on steam right now.

Pudge102888794d ago

Its so obvious that EA is doing this or hired ppl to mess up the games so that we’d be forced to have just 1 Battlefield working.

FPS_D3TH794d ago

Honestly it’s probably the devs themselves. They did an update to bf4 way back that kinda made assault rifles doo doo in hopes that people would flock to BF1 cuz BF4 was too perfect

Battlefield 1: A Missed Opportunity

Battlefield 1 is fondly remembered by many, but it's one of the biggest missed opportunities in the franchise.

Scrolled through the article first sentence, last sentence of each paragraph, well not literally but it was a skim. I lost this author when he started comparing it to other games. Kept reading but I’m at odds with him.
How can one compare a setting from WWI with another game in another setting that has been replicated numerous times over and over again?
BF1 is a WW1 setting game. There isn’t exactly a game comparison for the technology and combat. The game takes place a century ago. Use what was ‘high tech’ for its time to the gameplay style of the same ‘high tech’ weapons your enemy has. It’s a WW1 game that takes place just a lifetime ago. Is it fun? Yes. Do you have lock-on weapons? No. Does your enemy have lock on weapons? Also no. Use your equipment on the battlefield just like your opponent has.
I didn’t play BF1 as much as 3,4 and 5. But I think the author couldn’t adapt to the gameplay warfare of a century ago very well, and wrote an article for clicks explaining that. Maybe he wasn’t the audience the game was trying to attract, and I can’t say I was either. But it was a fun and unique experience I’m glad I had

You're right. I loved this game, one of my favorite BF. Unique, beautiful and fun. Now I want to re install it to try it on the ps5 :)
