Contest: Wrong Answers Only - Resident Evil 4

Wrecking balls. Those are always found above molten pits in small rooms with nothing to break but the walls that were built around them in the first place, right? Well, I'm here to tell you, this design took months to pin down. It wasn't the only idea they had for this room. It took a committee to narrow it down to the wrecking ball.

For our latest contest, we're asking you to help us recall what other ideas were on the board before they went with the wrecking ball room.

1. Post below your witty, not-at-all-serious, possibly even ridiculous, idea for what was intended in place of the wrecking ball in the aptly named room from Resident Evil 4. Whatever you do, it has to be the wrong answer and it still needs to abide by N4G Terms of Use.

Originally they had planned to hang Miley Cyrus from her feet above the molten pit, but decided to go with this wrecking ball instead.

((It was decided that not even a molten pit could stop her wretched singing.))

It was originally going to be the place where Leon found Rebellion, it was going to be a player empowerment moment where the player could not only pull off intricate combos with the new sword but Leon would also be able to dual wield a set of new pistols that juggled enemies in the air.

They later replaced it with a wrecking ball to represent how development constrictions wrecked their ambitions for a new style of Resident Evil game.

The wrecking ball was supposed to be an obtainable weapon. Calling back to the glory of the more action packed Resident Evil 6, this was the turning point where you started wrecking all the Ganados up by destroying anything that stood in your path. An unlockable skin turns the wrecking ball into the boulder that Chris punched through in Resident Evil 5.

The disco room could have been an amazing location... but instead of a disco ball and shag carpet, we got a wrecking ball and a pit of molten fun.

As it turns out Ashley was in fact equipped with ballistics at one point in RE4's development and was saving them for just the right occasion the whole time. In this case a decrepit wall blocking their escape route. When Leon yells at her about not using them sooner. Ashley would quip that she only uses them when its funny. It was deemed way too campy and was changed to what we eventually got shortly after.

Originally, Salazar was modeled after Alice from Alice in Wonderland. This was actually supposed to be her tea party with a giant cup of tea as a tea bag was being dunked in. They later changed it to be a pit of lava and a wrecking ball because they were concerned that critics would be overly critical about the source material (Capcom is known to borrow too much from source material, like the SF6 logo).

They still kept some of the influences, such as the castle and the Regenerators (Based on the Cheshire cat).

The room was originally intended to feature a boss fight featuring the Kool-Aid man but licensing issues arose when Kool-Aid backed out after deciding it's new Outbreak Orange flavor wasn't focus testing well. Legend has it that Kool-Aid Man would burst through the wall, initiating a Crash Bandicoot style pursuit with him, with screams of "Oh yeah!!!" echoing through the tunnels of his lair, until he eventually spilled out.

This is actually Mendez’s S&M chamber. He’d be tied up to the wall as the wrecking ball would smash into his nads. The women of the village would pour molten metal onto his nipples.

Originally the idea was for the cult to spread and replace the global reign of the illuminati. They started off the same way the illuminati did by controlling pop culture media with subliminal messages of the Las plagas and all seeing eye. The room was a filming set for comedy central's lip sync battles. You were supposed to find Anne Hathaway turned zombie dressed as Miley Cyrus in the room. Right after that you'd run into a boss fight with a very agile Tom Holland zombie dressed as Rihanna. You'd also find a note, describing the plan to bring Destiny's Child back together, however the plan failed obviously as you'd come across a Regenerator consisting of three parasitic bodies, one for each of the girls, throwing Beyonce songs at you as it fights you. The plot twist would have been that the OG villain would be Jimmy Kimmel. They scrapped the idea cause it was too close to reality and the Illuminati didn't want to expose themselves so obviously.

They originally planned to have a God of war style minigame involving Salazar's sex dungeon but they thought it would be too graphic so they went with the wrecking ball room instead.

It was originally going to be a cutscene where the duo was captured and put onto a platform above a pool of water filled with sharks, not normal sharks, but sharks equipped with lasers on their heads.... because sharks deserve a hot meal. The platform above the pool was equipped with a state-of-the-art, unnecessarily slow dipping mechanism. All the bad guys would leave the room when this mechanism was activated, leaving the heroes completely unsupervised.

One director who worked on the game, 'Scott Igotagun', suggested that they just skip all the theatrics, and have one of the enemies go to a room to get a gun, and just shoot both of them in the head. he was immediately dismissed from his position on the spot.

Ultimately this wonderfully crafted idea was scrapped and replaced with the ludicrous idea of a wrecking ball above smoldering hot "MAG-MA," when capcom found out this scene was copied by an American film.

Originally they have planned that Ashley would hang from the chain and slowly descend towards lava while hysterically calling for Leon non-stop
Meanwhile Leon would operate the crane and swing Ashley in all the directions trying to evade enemies
Because of Ashley screams, enemies head would explode
Blasted by the screams... Leon would cover his ears forgetting that it controls the crane
Ashley would then drop on the lava and scream so hard that the metal door blasts open

Originally they planned the balls as a puzzle for u to escape, you had to shoot the chains and the balls would fall on pools of molten lava and with all of them covered up it would creating preassure within the pipes and the whole factory would start blowing up with you running by mashing the 'X' button while the wrecking balls chase after you bouncing around the room like ping pong balls.. and when leon manages to escape he quips "those were some nasty balls"

Originally there was no wrecking ball. There was only a giant hamster wheel in the middle.

This was the room of a huge fight where Leon was going to protect Ashley while she ran on the hamster wheel. Running on the wheel would make lava turn into jelly, and from the depths of this jiggly underworld a horde of kamikaze chicken would suddenly spawn, flying towards the enemies, like unrelenting homing birds with beady eyes, going straight for the enemies heads.

And when they made contact, they'd take over their bodies and force them to do the chicken dance. Flapping their arms and legs like a couple of penguins trying to salsa dance, the enemies were no match for the mighty power of the kamikaze chickens.

Leon's jaw dropped as he surveyed the scene in front of him. Kamikaze chickens were everywhere, flying through the air and taking over the bodies of their enemies. He stood there, stunned, as he tried to make sense of what he was seeing. After a moment of silence, he finally spoke up.
"First Bingo, now chicken tag? And i thought the giant alligators were the weirdest thing about this job."

Leon's shoulders slumped as he let out a long sigh, "what kind of report am i supposed to write about this? 'Witnessed mass chicken invasion, lost all hope for humanity'?"

I reckon they were intended to do a nod to RE 8 and have an over size life like statue of Lady Dimitrescu learning over the fires and in place of the wrecking ball had to use her t*ts ...however Capcom found players ironically could never hit the brick brick wall. & never make it past that section.....as the game programmers got distracted by letting them swing into Leon's face they never finished the rest of the game.. so had to replace them thus wrecking ball was introduced.
