Good, this means more games coming to pc, can't wait for Ragnarok!

VenomUK13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

If you look at a game like Genshin Impact and it made over $5 Billion in revenue since launch for one game and it doesn’t risk the studio, so it gives an insight into why it’s so desired by Sony to go for that perpetual online game. I don’t think Sony should risk bringing its single player games to other consoles but bringing Hellblazer II to Xbox and Nintendo makes perfect sense.

Cacabunga13d ago

Cool but then where are the PS5 games Sony? So far only 3rd party studios are lifting the console

Knightofelemia13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

@VenomUK

Sony has brought other titles to PC that are single player. And they seem to be doing good all though I still think Sony should have brought the first three Uncharted games to PC as well. Sony is just breathing new life into games that have done well on Playstation such as Uncharted, Horizon, my favorite Days Gone, Spiderman, God of War. Sony will eventually port Ragnarok and Spiderman 2 to PC as well and I think those two games will do well on PC. I don't see PC players bitching about the games Sony has brought over to PC so far. And Helldivers 2 is doing well on PC except for Sony's F up with having a Playstation account. As for Sony putting Helldivers 2 on Xbox who knows if Sony will or won't port it. As for Nintendo you would need the Switch 2 the current Switch can barely handle Arkham Knight. You call it risky but again I don't see PC player bitching about the games that Sony has ported over so far to PC. If anything it introduced players to games they have never played if they just stick to PC and don't want to buy a Playstation that's their choice.

shadowknight20313d ago

Hellblazer 1 released along the time that God of Flock released, however it was considering very much an Andie budget game, with a top down perspective twin stick shooter that it was. Then he'll blazers 2 released, in all its 3D glory and crossplay madness.

Besides few core fanboys rest gamers understand the huge potential for PlayStation’s games on PC. Same applies for Xbox games on PlayStation. We as gamers may not like it or understand it but there are billions at stake. More money these companies generate the bigger budgets and resources they can allocate for future projects

Crows9012d ago

Yes...it never ceases to amaze me that so many don't understand.

PlayStation games benefit as an added source of revenue. As long as it is released not at the same time as on the console....because if it is...then there's no reason to buy a ps5. This means a loss in their ecosystem and more money lost through each sale on steam.

JackBNimble12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

What you're talking about could push a certain company out of the console side and make them strictly soft gaming company.
I can't be the only one who reconsidered buy their hardware because their games were going to ps5.

Edit: it's one thing for games to go to pc , and a completely different thing for games to go from xbox to ps5. That will stop people from buying a second console.

neutralgamer199212d ago

Jack

MS don’t invest 100 billion to make few console warriors happy who would buy the Xbox branded console anyway. They want generate the revenue, which in return will generate more profits end of the day it’s all the spreadsheet and whether we like it or not just selling on Xbox is not going to help them on their spreadsheets

And I completely disagree with you. Why would someone not buy Xbox if their goal is game pass so they will get all those games one on that subscription while other consoles and platforms have to pay full price to pay the same games

Angyobangyo13d ago

The downvotes you’re getting shows how petty the Sony diehards are. Meanwhile Sony just made a good size change and will keep releasing on PC regardless.

Crows9012d ago

Nope. Yeah they made good size change....so did Gabe...that's where most seem to be perfectly content in remaining oblivious to reality.

It's an acceptable strategy if Sony doesn't release day and date. If they start doing that...those diehards would probably end up skipping consoles and heading to PC. It's only common sense.

Number1TailzFan12d ago

Yes, gamers who can't afford a decent midrange PC or higher will opt for console anyways.

PC players have a choice of better IQ & (usually) performance.

babadivad12d ago

Day and date is coming soon. I know people don't want to hear that but I believe that's where we're heading.

I have seen the port-begging for these games on playstation, including Half-Life Alyx
🤣
https://i.ibb.co/FDyhF7F/20...

fr0sty13d ago

There is no need to port beg for that game anymore, now that they are making PS VR2 compatible with PC.

itsmebryan13d ago

"Port begging " really you guys are weird. Is that what was happening when Starfield came out? I never heard that term when people were "Port begging " for Starfield.

Sony had no first party releases till next year at the earliest. So, you won't have to worry about Port begging. I feel like I'm losing IQ points repeating that term. Smh

VersusDMC13d ago

Everyone port begs here...

Nintendo fans port begged for years to get persona 5. Xbox fans portbegged for Helldivers 2 and rebirth recently.

Even Phil Spencer got in on the Helldivers 2 exclusivity whining...

trying to shame people for wanting to play good games, what the fuck even is this?

SeTTriP13d ago

It's because p.c players are cringe.

Shiore2u13d ago

@SeTTriP
Psychological projection coupled with inferiority complex and brand worship is the ultimate cringe

ravens5213d ago

That's it ?😏 /s.
But day and date is "needed"? I think not.

Amplitude12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

The revenue would be even higher if the games didn't launch 2 years later and could capitalize on the original launch's ads and hype.

Ghost of Tsushima came out for PC recently and I haven't heard a word about it. If it came out - say, 3 months after the PS5 version - it would sell like mad. In that sense, day and date is needed. Would be cheaper as well if PC versions were developed alongside the original games rather than outsourcing hit-or-miss port jobs later.

Crows9012d ago

That's where you're entirely wrong. The revenue wouldn't be as big. It would be offset by all the players just sticking to PC instead of bothering with buying anything on console....

Then sure....more sales on PC but steam takes a huge chunk whereas by leaving them on the console for a few years it forces players to buy in songs ecosystem which also gets them the most money.

Amplitude12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

Tell that to Sony after HellDivers and I think the personified company would roll it's eyes at you. Im confident you're overestimating the number of people who double dip, buying games on PS5 and re-buying them on PC. Obviously nobody knows - but one can assume that the number is extremely tiny.
I personally waited or am waiting for Horizon, God of War Ragnarok and Ghost of Tsushima to come to PC because i would rather play them there. At this point I'm waiting for a sale on Ghost - i've waited this long already and have lost interest with time.

Yet when Ratchet and Clank came out, i bought a PS5 for it and as such I have absolutely no interest in re-buying it for PC.

PC and console are very different markets. If somebody wants to play a game on their home theater system (like Ratchet), buy it on console. If somebody wants to play a big open world or multiplayer thing on their PC, buy it on PC.

The 30% Valve cut is the only actual reason to not release day-and-date, but a couple months would give all the benefits of the PS5 launch for people who REALLY want it day one, with patient people getting the game later but still in the "hype" cycle. (Or - god forbid - Sony launches their own PC storefront)

I really think we're going to see exactly that happening sooner than you think.

anast13d ago

They can drip feed that ecosystem and make bank.

Levii_9213d ago

Greed is a helluva thing, definitely my favourite sin.

Eonjay12d ago

I don't see it as greed. It just makes sense as the devs get more for their work. And for single player games with high production cost a risk i think this help secure these games for the future.

Trying to push players over from PC to console is a terrible idea, PlayStation

As PlayStation announces its new strategy to encourage PC users to choose PS5 it is a bitter-sweet moment for PC gamers.

Christopher1d 6h ago

I mean, it's a business based on hardware market. Do we expect them to not even try? It's not like Nintendo doesn't do the same by not putting any games on PC and Microsoft until recently did the same. I don't care what they attempt, as long as they don't abuse the community or lie about their goals/requirements.

Will it work? Not likely. Should we care? No. Let them waste their time, it doesn't affect anything.

RaidenBlack1d 6h ago

let them try ... at the end of the day, we get few extra PC games ... yay ... and also promotes game preservation via PC ... so double yay.

LordoftheCritics13h ago

If only Playstation games provided the ease of pc gaming features.

Primary being very few PS games support m/kb.

Christopher6h ago

If only PC games supported controllers more. Main reason I play primarily on console. So many games have shit support on PC. Playing Dark Envoy now, and it's quite frustrating since I have to switch to keyboard during cut scenes just to make sure advancing conversation doesn't also auto-select a decision. Let alone it's quite rough to select between characters and inventory screens are bad bad bad.

Anywho, similar complaints for both I find. But, I 100% agree that both PC and consoles should support both as best as possible.

crazyCoconuts1h ago

PS may push more kb support in the future to get more PC converts, we'll see.

Flewid63819m ago

As someone with a high end PC, I feel like the ease is on PS5. Too many PC games are a troubleshooting nightmare, which few people have the time for when all you want to do is pop in a game & play it.

LordoftheCritics5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

I don't think you understand what I mean by the lack of m/kb support on PS.

Over a thousand titles have PS controller support on PC.

Not even 30 titles have m/kb support on PS5.

Once you are done with the single player title, you'll go back to playing your daily shooter/looter/mmo etc which the pc gamer has mastered with their mouse and keyboard.
Why would any pc gamer make the switch?

Fishy Fingers1d 5h ago (Edited 1d 5h ago )

I wish them the best of luck.

But PC players are often a patient bunch, many will even wait for Epic launcher exclusivity to end until a game comes to Steam.

If they didnt buy the console when its games were exclusive, why would they do it now theyre not?

MrNinosan15h ago

Way more do than you probably think.

ravens5215h ago

All you need is that one game that'll make a few switch at a time. Like a game a PC player REALLY wants.

porkChop2h ago

It just doesn't work that way though. Plenty of the best games ever made were never available on PC. That didn't make PC gamers buy consoles to play them. This kind of strategy has never worked in the past and it won't work now. It's fine for PS to hold their games back and release on PC later, but to think that will boost console sales is wishful thinking. All this will accomplish is some double dipping, which is obviously good for business.

JackBNimble2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

People aren't going to switch from pc to ps5, why would anyone do that for a game?
Most sony exclusives aren't all that to begin with, and pc has the option to upgrade what they want when they want it. Having access to some ps5 games, gamepass and steam.

Thinking this would happen is naive

outsider162411h ago

I mean if there's 10 million pc gamers out there...getting atleast just 1 million from there is probably a good thing..right?

romulus239h ago

PC players are not a monolith, I don't know why people keep thinking they speak for the entirety of all PC gamers like they all know each other personally. You think out of the millions of PC gamers not one single person will be impatient?Well Sony is willing to bet there will be. Why would they do it now? People's feelings change and new PC gamers come along all the time that may also feel different about waiting, that's why.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 2h ago
-Foxtrot1d 5h ago

PC gamers are just too patient and loyal to their gaming set ups, something they've spent a lot of money on to perfect. They have backlogs of games which many never get round to finishing or get round to at all and will always have other multiplatform releases to keep them going.

Over the many years Sony has published so many awesome titles such as The Last of Us, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Infamous, Killzone, LittleBigPlanet, Dreams, Puppeteer, Resistance, Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo, Motor Storm, God of War, Horizon, Ratchet and Clank, Spiderman, Ghost of Tsushima, Bloodborne

If none of those games BEFORE all these PC ports convinced a hardcore PC gamer to get a PS5 console then why on Earth would porting them them to PC now make any difference? All PC gamers now know 100% is that they just have to be patient, which they are good at anyway to get a PS5 game 2 years later.

I get GaaS games or multiplayer focused titles but if people really want to play these games they'd have gotten a PS console years ago.

Crows9012h ago

Not sure they're aiming to convince the hardcore PC gamer.

Not sure why people are obsessing over his comment...it seems pretty simple to me.

He will do all he can to entice gamers to move to his ecosystem. As you say....exclusives existing hasn't moved many gamers over. But if they get to try them and love the games then they might change their mind about waiting 2 years.

We're in an echo chamber on this site...I've Personally seen people with Xbox and PC setups but no PlayStation. I've also seen people with small PC setups but no console. Not every pc gamer invests thousands and many may decide to put one in the living room.

They're not looking to convince all of players to buy a PlayStation...just a few...and really it is just a PR statement after all...they have to give a reason why single player won't release day 1....not to mention they also have to ensure current PlayStation gamers don't jump ship to PC. It goes both ways and they're ignoring the big L by putting any of their games off their platform.

anast11h ago

"Not sure they're aiming to convince the hardcore PC gamer."

Right here

Kakashi Hatake11h ago

PC gamers think tomorrow is promised. Sorry, don't have time for that.

Michiel198910h ago

it's not just about loyalty or sunk cost, pc is an open platform while consoles are closed platforms. If you for example want to mod, you will play on pc, no question about it. Also if you like indie games, steam is a fucking goldmine for that. I've been playing a lot of indie games over the last years and there just seems to be an endless amount of them on steam. Also not having games locked to a certain fps is a prettty big deal for me and I assume a lot of other pc players.

Walalon9h ago

And don't forget steam sales, you can get a ton of games on an awesome price.

badz14934m ago

@Walalon

Sony has been doing sales constantly on the PS Store nowadays.

romulus239h ago

And how do you know out of the millions of PC gamers that not one single person ever went ahead and bought a PlayStation console for one or more of those games? People keep speaking for the entirety of millions of PC gamers like they know them all personally. Here's one example for you, I'm currently typing on a recently purchased PC that cost me over twenty five hundred dollars and is more than capable of running any game including Sony exclusives that come to PC and yet I still bought a PS5 so apparently I'm not patient or loyal enough to my set up, hope it's not mad at me for not being loyal.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 34m ago
helicoptergirl1d 4h ago

Who cares? Then just stay on PC and play the waiting game. No big deal. Sony wins in the end anyway.

Number1TailzFan1d 4h ago

I mean if there's any single player Sony games that I actually want that aren't on PC then I would buy said console to play them on. But the ones that I like that aren't on PC are few and far between anyway so no loss for me.

If I game, it's usually multiplayer titles, otherwise I like playing around with some other software.

Amplitude6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

Astro Bot is the game that just did it for me. I'm gonna have to grab a PS5 again for that.

I did this for Ratchet Rift Apart too but ended up selling the PS5 after getting my plat. Rebought it on PC and other than GoW Ragnarok and Horizon FW (which eventually I could get anyway), I haven't had a reason to downgrade my graphics, controller features, ease of recording, and increase my game costs and monthly subscriptions throughout this entire generation.

I play on a TV with a controller but this has been the absolute worst console gen for both consoles. Never in my life thought I'd be a PC gamer but I've been spoiled by the cheap costs, cross-platform controllers and mostly the unbelievably useful Steam controller config.

PlayStation VR2 Official PC Adapter by Sony Is Being Certified

An official PlayStation VR2 adapter for PC made by Sony is being certified. It won't be long before the VR headset is officially compatible.

one step closer to unlocking the headsets full power.

I'm extremely underwhelmed with how Sony has treated it's psvr2 customers seriously Nintendo treated it's Wii U owners of which the sales were probably equal in the headsets 2bd year v the consoles far better.

This is the least they could do

ravens523d ago

I agree. I'm a day 1 consumer too. 😢 For my day 1 Vita. I do not like when Sony does that crap.

DarXyde2d ago

I still don't have PSVR2, but this was always my concern. I almost pulled the trigger for RE4, but I waited it out to see what changed. As it happens, not much.

I love my Vita. Great piece of hardware. It didn't shine the way we know it could have, but it'll still got amazing titles.

PC support is very much a step in the right direction. Even if some PC only titles can make use of the headset, it does increase PSVR adoption: it's a great piece of hardware and it's also the best in its price bracket, so I see a way forward for uptake. Who knows? Maybe that'll allow VR devs to feel more comfortable releasing on PS5.

BlackOni3d ago

Agreed, but to your point, those dollars went a lot further back then than they do now. This should have been a consideration from the beginning.

Imagine buying a monitor or tv that could only work with one device. That's basically what this equates to, so they left a LOT of money on the table by not making it PC compatible from the getgo. But to Sony's credit, even they were unaware of how popular their games would be once released on PC.

poppatron2d ago

No credit to Sony on this one I’m afraid, first party and generally Sony support for psvr2 really hasn’t been great

BlackOni2d ago

@poppatron yes, I wasn't implying the PSVR2 games became popular or well supported, only that Sony was considering the PC market an afterthought. I imagine more people will want to buy this when it works with PC. I know I will, as I play on both.

Babadook73d ago

I doubt there will be foveated rendering implemented on PC. PSVR2 is already a better experience than PCVR. PS5 Pro will unlock the full power.

Profchaos2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Probably not but not all psvr2 games use fov many are just straight ports from quest systems which barely take advantage the headsets capabilities.

Still I'd rather have more options and games to play on this than a tiny LIbrary

so now Sony is going to sell me an adapter I have to buy so I can use the headset on my PC? Gee, how generous of you :P

While it's great that I will be able to use this headset instead of my Index or Q3 for PC only VR titles, it's still a sad realization that Sony is sorta waiving the white flag here. Here's hoping they at least make some of their PSVR2 exclusive content available on PC as well now.

ocelot073d ago

I don't see it as waving the white flag. PSVR the first one even though modders did get it working on pc it was a awful experience.

PSVR2 one of the best VR headsets available. Requires just one usb c cable. Even though I truly believe exclusives are what sell consoles. When it comes to VR it's very nich among gamers. I'm ecstatic that soon I can imo use the best VR headset on both ps5 and pc. No need for a pc vr headset. I have said it since PSVR2 was announced that I hope they make it pc compatible. With it being a very expensive headset and pc vr being more popular it just makes sense for Sony to do this.

3d ago
Neonridr3d ago

as opposed to a Quest 3 that requires no cables, or a single cable if you want to pair it with your PC right? ;)

While the tech is better in the PSVR2 for the most part (I own an Index, Q3 and PSVR2), I'm still let down by certain things. Headset rumble is a novelty. Eye tracking has only been used well on a couple of titles.

to each their own I guess, but to me this doesn't give me confidence that Sony is fully investing in their own hardware, more like they are stepping back to allow others to fill in the gaps.

ocelot073d ago

@Neonridr not owned a quest 3. Did own a quest 1 and 2 both where fairly good. Have used a quest 3 for a limited time and thought it was fine. But comfort wise not as nice as psvr2.

Tried using quest 2 via wireless streaming to my pc and it was so bad I much rather using a single cable and have a solid connection than streaming the game from pc to headset.

3d ago Replies(2)
ocelot073d ago

It's most likely just going to be a usb c to usb 3 adapter. Even for modern era a lot of new cases and motherboards don't have a usb c ports.

The budget but still fairly fairly high end pc I recently helped my friend build. He went with a b550 motherboard. Didn't have a usb c port or a on board socket to connect a pc case with a front panel usb c. Had to get a cheap pcie usb c.

1nsomniac3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

They developed the headset/attached usb c cable so that it wasn’t possible to run through any port other than a designated ps5 port. The adapter allows all the data to be passed correctly to a none designated ps5 port.
