Epic’s New Game Truly is Epic, Fortnite Announced

They may call them the Video Game Awards, but they might as well call them the Video Game Announcements! Although it ruined the surprise, Epic announced a few days ago that they would be revealing a brand new IP at this year’s VGAs. It was a pretty big disappointment after Naughty Dog's showing, which was entirely in-engine. I'll probably pass on this light-hearted romp. I need more meaning in my games.

Everyone on n4g is saying they have already seen tons of these games this gen and its not very exciting from just a trailer when alot of you just finished praising and hyping The Last of Us in other articles for only its trailer, which is pretty much yet another zombie game.

Neither have hardly any details on them yet at all yet it seems as though some people already adore The Last of Us and wont give this one an inch, and Fortnite could be amazing.

...but in a more simplified approach--taking the difficulty out of the world exploration and just building a fort to withstand zombies--then taking the CoD Zombies aspect and building into it...
Actually, that sounds much like how most game development goes. Take an aspect of another game, build on it, and then disguise it as something else. Genius!
Looks fun, much better than Bulletstorm. It's funny that the graphics look like Epic's approach to Team Fortress 2, since the game is called "Fort"nite.

It clearly involves collecting items to create a barricade (they wouldn't have the blueprint things if it wasn't some sort of in-game thing) and there's almost definitely a horde-mode like gameplay element as well, as we saw the zombies invading the barricade.

Well, it's either that or tower defense.
Either way, we've seen about a million of them this gen.

And who cares if it's CGI or not? It's bland and cartoony, anyway. It might have been in-engine, though.

I think that they may have started developing another game for the next generation but are doing this on the side, as the time between their games (their income) would have been too far apart otherwise.

It will be interesting though to see what they can accomplish gameplay-wise, when they have less emphasis on graphics.

Thats sorta like the purpose of trailers.
I personally think it looked fun. I liked the cartoony graphics and I like what I think the concept of the game is.
And I think epic going a different route is very ambitious and I encourage developers to do that.
I actually think if it was a different studio most people wouldnt even really acknowledge it ... or should I say I wouldnt acknowledge it.But sense its a epic game im not expecting some vaporware crap.Studios like EA can put out shitty games and not care but studios like epic show they actually care about what they release..

Because you can tell everything about this game after a 1min trailer right? Look at a game like portal. It started off by having a sort of stylized world that didn't have much of a story but had amazing game mechanics. Then look at what they did with Portal 2 it was pretty epic and story driven and kept all the great gameplay.

looks like you might have to get stuff for your barricade during the day and fight a little of those creatures then at night time you stay in there and fight all of them off till the next day and seems like it will be co-op for sure. Not judging it till I see game play though.

Cant say Im overwhelmed in any way, but it looks promising enough.
Im sure its a downloadable game, although one with pretty fleshed out gameplay not that Ive seen any gameplay.

Its just that it would make sense if it was a fps or tps style co-op game. And blowing shit up, collecting and building stuff might be a lot of fun along with shooting monsters/zombies trying to hold them off. Sounds cool to me, but I dont think I'd pay full retail price for it. Thats just from seeing 1 trailer though, something might come along and change my mind later on. Ill keep an eye on this.

I would not say it has that "mature" or "shooter" appeal to it but looks like a good arcade zombie survival game to have :)
