Garry Newman – the creator of Garry’s Mod – recently asked, quite innocently, whether anyone was unable to shade polygon normals. Indeed it does seem that there are a few people who are experiencing problems with their game.
...you can hear Newman’s chuckling from here. It seems that the developer has deliberately enabled an error in GMod, which will only affect people who have pirated the game.
Hanzala from eXputer: "As Nintendo takes out 20 years' worth of stuff from Garry's Mod, I watch in shock, thinking why it continues to hurt and discourage its fans."
The irony that some of the most disgusting business practices come from companies like Disney or Nintendo, i can't even begin to understand what terrible damage was Garrys Mod making to Nintendo bottom line, imho they're getting pretty nervous about where they're heading in the future, handhelds are no longer something exclusive to Nintendo, from Steam Deck to many others, now you can play the latest games and pay a fraction of the price on Steam sales, so it's up to their exclusives, which just on their own would make hard to justify purchasing a closed overpriced hardware with outrageous price policies (Super Mario Odyssey is still 60 euro 6 years later!), and as a home console they're always underperforming compared to Sony or Xbox.
Look at how they handled Nintendo games being streamed or uploaded on YouTube in the past. They killed Yuzu and Citra even when they had nothing to do with ToTK being leaked, not to mention it was basically unplayable on emulation the week it was leaked. Smash Bros tournament, that was fairly recent. They shut down their online services without any care for purchases made. I bought a switch after skipping their last 2 consoles and handhelds but I don't plan on buying anything Nintendo in the future. They take things to the extremes, they legitimately hate their fans. They're honestly right up there with the likes of Acti, EA, and Ubi, only difference is that they disguise themselves as being family friendly all the while being shady.
Garry’s Mod, the Source engine creation game and pillar of the Half-Life modding scene, is considering banning servers that purport to celebrate Nazi ideology.
But what constitutes "Nazi ideology" in this day and age? Especially when anyone with an even remotely conservative opinion is called a Nazi.
"Banning symbols and stuff sounds like they’d just use another symbol, but in my opinion, these people are so fragile that one concession would be too much for them, and they’d find somewhere else.”
That's rich, calling these people fragile. When you're the ones going out of your way to cancel everyone and everything.
Although the game has no real objective, Garry's Mod is a sandbox title that includes some of the eeriest maps gaming has ever seen.
So many fond memories of this map and all the fun I had in GMod. I’ve been trying out S&Box (Google it if you haven’t heard of it), and it’s pretty awesome as a successor.
Hoping they get to a full release in 2023.
This is genius! Gotta love his sense of humour, at least he didn't sue them for stealing his code...
ZING!
Only joking :)
I remember when Garry's Mod used to be free.
Why is this even news ? Software developers have been doing this for years it isn't anything new and it doesn't just affect pirates. I remember one of the more notorious examples of this DRM was the "always on drunk cam" in GTA 4. It didn't take long for the pirates to find the triggers but legit users are still suffering the piracy trigger years later.
Now from what I have read of this story it certainly doesn't sound like it is only pirates being affected. Actual customers that have bought the game have had this glitch and they have had an uphill battle trying to convince this "Garry Newman" that they actually paid for the game.
Never jokes with Gabe Newell and pirated software.
Nothing beats Arkham Asylum's bug where it wouldn't let pirates glide.
