David Jaffe says he would change God of War to mix in Zelda 64 elements

David Jaffe has reflected on the God of War series and explained that if he were to create God of War now, he would like to mix elements of God of War and the Zelda titles from the N64.

Hmm, I'm not too sure about that, one game is fast paced the other one isn't.

Bungie5265d ago

Darksiders already did that

keep God of War as awesome as it's now

Saaking5265d ago

Yea, I don't think they would mix very well. Anyways, has there been any new info on Jaffe's new game yet?

I think this is one of those ideas that sounds good but wouldn't execute very well. I think he found a winning formula with GOW, if he wanted to do a GOW+Zelda gameplay style then he should just make an other game.

Denis Dyack worked on some great games. Then he went off the deep end.

Dave Jafee, you are using the same faulty map...

The Ancient Greek world actually does lend itself to an open world type of game. I think it actually would've been interesting to see the God Of War franchise in an open world rpg'ish like Dragon Age or Zelda 64 (I said rpg'ish). There is a lot of history that could be told and I actually do wish I knew more. I find GoW to expect the player to know a lot of the faces they introduce. I mean the Gods are often easy to identify but people like Icarus are more difficult.

Anyway I don't think it's such a bad idea but it would probably be a totally different game than what we have now. I would like to see it, not if it would cost me the GoW we all know today though.

StanLee5265d ago

Too late Jaffe, Vigil already figured it out; the game's called Darksiders, it's out next week and trust me, it fcuking rocks!

SilentNegotiator5264d ago

No thanks. It might be fine for DarkSiders, but I'll always love GOW's style. GOW has it's OWN style, it doesn't need to borrow style from other games.

bjornbear5264d ago

GOW is the ultimate hacknslash franchise for a reason =D

@ cheerleaders

ah so darksiders is the new "game-we-are-getting-so-G OWIII-won't-seem-that-awsum&quo t;, i thought that was bayonetta =O

darksiders has nothing to do with GOWIII, and i'm sure both will be great games in their own right.

Sorry Jaffe Darksiders already beat yall to it.

Valay5265d ago

Was just thinking the same thing, really.

YogiBear5265d ago

read the article. it will make your comments less ignorant.

ironcreed5265d ago

Looks like somebody has been keeping an eye on a little game called Darksiders.

Anorexorcist5265d ago

But wow, that art photo up there ^ is truly epic and amazing.

Kratos' slicing away at some demon enemy soldier (with a hook for a left arm) all atop of a flying griffin.

PS3: It only does amazing games that inspire amazing artwork!

God of War Needs to Redefine Kratos' Purpose Clearly and Quickly

Whatever form the next God of War game takes, it needs to be clear about what role Kratos is playing, lest the franchise lose direction.

I'm pretty sure it'd be a major mistake having Atreus as the main character in the next GoW. Seems to me like at best people tolerate him and his gameplay sections.

Ideally the story for the next game would be that Atreus has gone missing in Egypt, Kratos gets mad about it, picks up Mimir and goes on a god killing rampage.

Mad_Matt17h ago

If that is an option for the dev team then they need to make it a clean slate. No Atreus, No Mimir. That's what happened when he changed pantheons before. Lets Kratos be in that world. But it will be a difficult task to complete. Kratos and his past demons are getting a bit redundant as far as story telling goes.

Nacho_Z16h ago

Yeah there's not a lot of meat left on the bone story wise. Personally I'd happily accept any goofy reason they could come up with for why Kratos is in Egypt chopping off heads. I'm personally not that bothered about the finer points of the storytelling, although they do it well.

Lionsguard13h ago

They need to bring back the "God of War" in God of War. I was expecting to unleash hell and fury in Asgard against Thor that they really talked up in the first game but all we got was brooding middle aged dad drunk in a beer hall. Ragnarok was still "good" but I left that game expecting a lot more.

InUrFoxHole13h ago

Tried Rag... just couldn't get into it. Felt like more of the same. I would welcome a Kratos only game again.

Zelda Replay: Majora's Mask

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Is Ocarina of Time as legendary as I remembered it? For the most part, yes. In spite of a handful of missteps — a few obtuse puzzles, some tedious backtracking, and a clunky stealth sequence — I don't believe the last 23 years have been unkind to it. Ocarina remains a brilliant example of the medium, a landmark game that shaped the future of its own franchise and 3D gaming in general. After more than two decades it retains its inventive dungeon design, challenging puzzles, dynamic combat, wistful storyline, unforgettable music, and empowering open-air freedom. I feel confident calling it one of the greatest games of the fifth generation, even if I'm no longer prepared to list it among the five best games ever made."

Pure unadulterated fun. They don't make them like this anymore...especially not the triple A industry.

FinalFantasyFanatic30d ago

Back when video rental was a thing, I rented out Majoria's Mask, I never finished it though. I did buy the 3DS version before the eshop shutdown, so maybe one day I'll finally play through the whole thing, it's amazing how well these games hold up though. I briefly played Ocarina of Time for a while and it was really fun.
