Sony Plans To Expand PS Plus Services Across Multiple Platforms, Leaks Reveal

Xbox Game Pass may have a new competitor in the future for multi-platform domination.

RAFTECH26157d ago

Way too late.
MS already has a huge library…. On top of that, the usage of activision hasn’t even been implemented.

The console war has moved to subscription war.
I would rather go game pass. Cloud.

andy85157d ago

Depends on the price tbh. PS Extra has more quality, GP has some day one games.

RAFTECH26157d ago

I have seen the ps plus library.
Those new announced additions have been in game pass from time.

Sony would have to do day 1.

Even then……. Is that sustainable for them?

The question that was asked gamepass from time.

Remember, Microsoft has deeeeeeeeep pockets. In order to sustain, Sony would have to increase their prices from their consumers….

S2Killinit156d ago (Edited 156d ago )

Personally, a Crunchyrol sub bundle with PSPlus would make it the best value ever.

FinalFantasyFanatic156d ago

@S2Killinit,
Honestly, a Crunchyroll sub bundle is the only thing that would change my mind at this point.

andy85156d ago

But I'm talking about the overall library, not this months additions.

itsmebryan156d ago

@andy
What day one games? 2024 is only TLoU2 remasterd (old) and Venom that should have been in SM2. PleAse explain

redrum06156d ago

Don't agree with you. I have both the XSX and PS5, and while PS has pretty awesome 1st party titles, I find most of their 3rd party titles are lacking in quality. GP offers a lot more when it comes to that.

Zeref155d ago

More quality? I don't think even you believe your own nonsense 😂. Gamepass objectively has better games.

This and sony does not have the cash flow too support a game pass style like microsoft has been doing but they could put a app store of there games on pc.

Or they could dip into there huge pile of dead ips put those on a gamepass style that would work.

fr0sty157d ago

Microsoft doesn't either, which is why they have openly admitted that if subscriptions do not dramatically increase by 2027 it's going to drive them out of the console business entirely.

just_looken156d ago

@frosty

I love this site a company that has a net worth of 2.5 trillion dollars makes over 50 billion every 4 months is now poor.

Gamingsince1981156d ago (Edited 156d ago )

"I love this site a company that has a net worth of 2.5 trillion dollars makes over 50 billion every 4 months is now poor."

That's what MS earns not what xbox earns, they aren't going to put all their profits into a failing business like xbox just to keep it alive.

DarXyde156d ago

"I love this site a company that has a net worth of 2.5 trillion dollars makes over 50 billion every 4 months is now poor."

It's not about being poor. It is what MS said themselves and clearly, if a division of your company is "gangrenous" it gets scaled down, if not eliminated. Publishers and platform holders do this all the time with studios.

How do you not know or understand this?

It's fair to be skeptical of what they say about anything because MS and even Sony at times are very wishy washy.

But I reckon the way they've been moving, they don't really want to stay in the console game long-term, but that's just me.

No one is saying they're going broke. They're just following Microsoft's own statements on the matter.

There is no war.

Xbox Series X|S aren't gonna outsell the PS5.

And neither Sony nor Microsoft are gonna be able to catch the Switch this generation.

It's better just to have each company do their own thing rather than compete.

fr0sty157d ago

Switch isn't "this generation".

Gamingsince1981156d ago

Switch will be beaten by ps5 before the ps5 gen is over, and switch is last gen

Yui_Suzumiya155d ago

Switch will likely dominate and become the highest selling console of all time.

DarXyde155d ago

"Switch isn't "this generation"."

HERE WE BLOODY GO!

I swear to God, it's impossible to get people to agree on where the Switch falls.

Against PS4/Xbox One, it was not the same generation. Now, same hardware from Nintendo and new hardware from Sony and Microsoft, and they're STILL not part of the same generation. It's incredible.

If no one can agree on where to place the Switch, perhaps we should just agree to ignore the concept of generations and focus on what concurrent devices are competing. Makes far more sense, especially when PC is also a competing platform and good luck trying to nail down which generation PC is "part of".

Melankolis157d ago

Being late doesn't mean they're not going to profit at all.
Playstation brand will play role.
Xbox might be strong in the US, but the term "Playstation" for videogaming has been replacing "Nintendo" in Asia since late 90's. Everyone knows Playstation, Xbox is a stranger here and the main franchise here isn't CoD or Western RPGs.

Crows90157d ago

What are you smoking. PlayStation subscription has a much bigger library.

Zeref155d ago (Edited 155d ago )

Yeah it's padded with ps1 to ps4 titles and bottom tier 3rd party games. Does it even offer ps5 titles yet? Afaik that's still not the case.

gold_drake157d ago

what is it with ppl thinking theres still a "console war" going on? get a grip.

also, a huge library means nothing if the content is trash

REDGUM157d ago

Sorry but I find you're comment delusional. Are you not keeping up with what gamers, players & users are wanting these days? If it were to be what Microsoft are offering, why such drastic differences in sales and demand for all other platforms other than the Microsoft console.
I get it, people will defend to the bitter end thier own platform preference but the worldwide sales speak for themselves in my opinion.

smolinsk157d ago

But Sony has the games people want.

ironmonkey157d ago

so xbox lost the console war and sucks?

yeahokwhatever157d ago

excuse me, your bias is showing.

RupeeHoarder156d ago

Nothing too late about this…at all.

itsmebryan156d ago

@Raftech
This just renforces what was in the leak.. Sony is too late to the game. Gamepass and games on Xbox , PC, Steam box, Steam, Meta VR, Nvidia,... and ABK just signed a deal with Samsung. Sony has only PS5 and only about 5 games on PC .

Plus, what about content? Sony has no new1st party AAA games. That's why they have to pay for so many 3rd party games. Sony now has nowhere near the new content as Microsoft. Sony is closing studios, canceling games, and laying off people while Microsoft expanding.

I hope SONY figures somthing out

ironmonkey156d ago

Awww how sweet, Xbox console dead now we move to wittle digital competition. Heres a crayon, draw us a sad face clown.

TheCaptainKuchiki156d ago

Lmaoooo
Gamepass is 6 years old and still hasn't managed to gain much traction outside of Xbox.
There's no such thing as "toot late"

VariantAEC152d ago

Game Pass hasn't gained traction even on Xbox

ChasterMies156d ago

“Way too late.”

Is what people said when Apple introduced iPhone.

Darkegg152d ago (Edited 152d ago )

Problem is Microsoft is good at collecting money. Not developing good first party games. They consume studios. And possibly bankrupt them if they don’t deliver. If they do make games, micro transactions is their business. Microsoft will charge and nickel-dime u if they had the power.

Profchaos157d ago (Edited 157d ago )

It's funny that this is just resurrecting their earlier plans from 2013 odd. I recall PS now originally being streamable on Bravia TVs and PS Vita (maybe PSP can't quite remember) consoles as a start with plans to expand from there which never happened and eventually saw tv and vita support lapse and be relegated to PS4 only

jukins157d ago

Yea they were a little to early with the cloud initiative.

thecodingart157d ago

Eh, I’ve become a PC gamer because of this crap.

To hell with crap streaming

just_looken157d ago

PlayStation tv you are talking about i own one

You are right but remember sony has the tech first they toss it out 0 support horrible ads then it dies after that they blame us the gamer then toss the tech to another company or just give other companies the idea for them to roll with.

But hey in 2023 we got psp tech for the ps5 sold at $300 with fans loving it so sony can sell shit on a stick and make cash now.

Can not wait for psv3 in 2 year then kill off psvr2 like they did one buy/make studios then shut them all down after they spit out a few games.

ApocalypseShadow156d ago (Edited 156d ago )

Shit on a stick is still better than red fall and star field.

PS Portal is $200. Not $300. At least get your facts right instead of lying. PSVR works on PS5 just like PS VR 2. And PS Move works with PSVR on PS5. Does Kinect or Kinect 2 work on series consoles? Nope.

FinalFantasyFanatic156d ago

@thecodingart,

It was the censorship and the abandonment of Japanese games that did them in for me. Having said that, if I could play my PS Classics or some of my PS games on PC, I'd still do it as long as I don't have to turn the PS4 on.

Funny thing is I enjoy troll comments can't take everything you read seriously and it's good for a laugh

blackblades156d ago

I just want to play online without a sub. Makes no sense that F2P games dont require it to play online but we meaning I have to pay $80 just to play a couple fighting games online. That or at least make a bare bones sub with online only $10 a year. Hell I'll do online/cloudsave/discounts

Zenzuu156d ago

The amount of Xbox players suddenly jumping in here trying to justify Game Pass like it's the holy grail of gaming and thinking Sony's doom is laughable.

So they're adding Skull and Bones to their service? That doesn't seem exciting at all lol.

Ironically number 9 can save them at this point (releasing games on multiple platforms)

ChasterMies3d ago

By “save them” you mean make more profit for Microsoft. Xbox will still be a dying hardware platform.

OtterX3d ago

You could add the naming scheme for the consoles, it just confuses customers. I know they wanted to avoid traditional numbering bc it would always be lower than their competitor, but this whole 360 then One then Series thing is confusing af. Imagine a Soccer Mom trying to figure this stuff out. I still mistakenly call the Series X the One from time to time on accident.

RNTody3d ago

Don't forget about the Xbox One, Xbox One X and Xbox Series X! Good luck to Soccer moms around the world.

S2Killinit3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

They did that on purpose to confuse and direct attention away from the generational numbering.

MS doesn’t like reminding people that they joined the industry after others had already been involved in gaming.

For instance, they called the xbox “360” to combat PlayStation “3” because they wanted to seem like “more” than “3”, so instead of xbox 2, they opted for xbox 360. Also this had the additional benefit of selling consoles to uninformed parents who might purchase a “360” instead of a “3” by mistake, or because they thought 360 was more than 3. Kind of a disingenuous move.

They have been continuing with their confusing naming patterns for pretty much the same reasons. Frankly, it fits with who and what they are as a brand.

FinalFantasyFanatic2d ago

I can understand their reasoning, but whoever came up with that naming scheme should be fired, bad naming schemes have killed consoles (I'm pretty sure it was the major reason for the downfall of the WiiU). They should have had unqiue names like Nintendo and Sega have had for their consoles, far less confusing for the consumer.

Cacabunga3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Phil Spencer is the worst that has happened to Xbox.
They built a respectable brand up to Xbox one. Then this guy took over and things became a joke

Reaper22_3d ago

He still has his job. Something you can't say about Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga3d ago

Both bad execs. One is on job and one thankfully retired.

FinalFantasyFanatic2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I didn't like either person, both people damaged their respective brands and produced worse outcomes, but Phil did save the Xbox brand from being retired by Microsoft. Although in hindsight, he should have just let it die, rather than languish in limbo like it is now.

Rainbowcookie2d ago

Yeah but the one that was "bad" didn't even affect sales.

bunt-custardly3d ago

Phil Spencer was also on the team back when 360 was around, alongside Shane Kim, Peter Moore etc. I think the damage that did the most harm was the Don Mattrick "Always Online" console (ahead of its time basically). They handed Sony and Nintendo a free-pass when that was revealed. It went downhill from there. Then the corporate machine went into full swing to try and recover. They have to a degree as a games company for the masses, and less so for the core gamer. Outside USA, the Xbox brand does not sell as well as Japanese based consoles (citation needed).

Cacabunga3d ago

Want a decision maker. The always online and TV plans was a disaster yes, but they caught up by announcing 1st party games that gamers actually kept the hype going.. until this moron took over and introduced the PC day one release.. e all know where that ended..

S2Killinit3d ago

I dont think they were ever a respectable brand, not since the beginning, when their goal was never to be involved and share in the gaming space. I think the OG xbox was an exception because MS as a brand was still getting its foot in and so the people behind that were people of the gaming industry.

FinalFantasyFanatic2d ago

The 360 was the brand in its prime though, everything went downhill towards the end of that generation. Its staple games like Halo, Forza and Gears are what kept the console relevant and afloat for so long.

MaximusPrime_3d ago

Really good video.

I remember the days with RRoD was big news on here, N4G.

Microsoft had it turbulence number of years.

Looking at the success of Sea of Thieves despite being 6 years old, time to release Halo, Forza horizon 4 & 5 on PS5. It'll help their revenue

shinoff21833d ago (Edited 3d ago )

2 of the 4 games they did already sold really well. So it's definitely going down. Idk about halo or forza but I feel those studios they've bought in the last 5 years, their coming

ChasterMies3d ago

I found this video painful to watch. Can someone list them out?

Top 10 for me from are:
1. 2013 reveal presentation
2. Bundling Kinect 2 with Xbox One
3. RRoD or why rushing to market with hardware is always a bad idea.
4. Buying studios only to close them.
5. Ads on the Home Screen
6. Letting Halo die.
7. Letting Geard of War die.
8. Every console name
9. Charging for Xbox Live on Xbox 360 when Sony let PS3 players play online for free.
10. Cancelling release of OG Xbox games after the Xbox 360 launched.
