BG3 and Alan Wake 2 lead the pack with 8 nominations.

And the six games nominated for GOTY are:-
BG3
Alan Wake 2
TOTK
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Spiderman 2
Super Mario Bros Wonder

Fully expecting BG3 to win GOTY with Alan Wake 2 getting most wins.

RaidenBlack201d ago

Have been low-key rooting for BG3, Alan Wake 2 & Phantom Liberty since start of this year (as well as for Starfied but oh well ... ) _____ 3/4 ain't bad
Was expecting more nominations for Phantom Liberty, though ... yea I know its a DLC but atleast the devs turned the whole game around ...

Ezio2048201d ago

Phantom Liberty got good enough nominations for a DLC so I am happy for it

LordoftheCritics201d ago (Edited 201d ago )

Spot on Nominations for all categories.

Alan Wake 2 is my personal pick on all the categories it has been nominated for.

Gamingsince1981201d ago

You thought starfield would be in the running for goty?? You had some very unrealistic expectations then.

Crows90201d ago

I guess if it wasnt enough proof yet...starfield is only in the rpg list...and thats only because of hype..they dont even deserve a spot there. All the others on the list are far superior.

-Foxtrot201d ago

Hopefully Baulders Gate 3 wins

It’s well crafted, the studio put such hard work into it and it feels the freshest out of all of them.

Sonic1881201d ago (Edited 201d ago )

I agree with you, but I wouldn't be surprised if Zelda wins it because of its trademark and popularity

-Foxtrot201d ago

@Sonic1881

If Zelda wins then it would be complete bullshit

Its almost the same as the first game but refined with extra stuff

DarXyde201d ago

Zelda winning would be BS?

It's really interesting. I got a lot of grief some time ago for saying RE4R winning GOTY is kind of ridiculous and that's literally a remake of a game that released every generation since it was first made. ToK is at least an actual sequel, but here we are with both games nominated for GOTY.

FinalFantasyFanatic201d ago

Honestly, I don't think ToTK deserves to take the award over Baldur's Gate 3, ToTK is too much like a 1.5 update or DLC to BoTW, and Baldur's Gate 3 is a stand out game compared to it's contemporaries.

recoctimocassirnff201d ago

Obviously, bg3 should win, but unfortunately, there's a decent chance zelder will take it even though it's undeserved, just because of the name.

Michiel1989201d ago

@foxtrot you obviously haven't even seen the new Zelda, it's nothing like the first game.
it's just sad how butthurt you guys got over botw and never got over it and actually play the game and give it a fair shake. You just automatically label it as trash without knowing the slightest thing about it

Lightning77201d ago

Baldurs Gate 3 is definitely taking it.

OtterX201d ago

I sure am glad Diablo 4 only made 2 lists; Accessibility and Multiplayer... and I hope it loses both. It was hands down my biggest disappointment this year. I've never felt so bored playing a Diablo game.

LordoftheCritics201d ago

Diablo 4 for Multiplayer?

LOL

darthv72201d ago

Many on X are saying RE4 shouldnt even be in this list as its a remake. Same with Wonder as that isnt nearly as new and original as something else like Hi-Fi- Rush. Its quite funny to read what people say about the nominees. Hell... many of my favorite games of all time have never been nominated. Doesn't stop them from being great games.

All of the GotY noms are all sequels... that's an interesting observation.

Flawlessmic201d ago

I would agree with RE 4 not being there as much as i loved it, i personally think Hogwarts or jedi survivor should've been there in its place.

RE4 was not changed enough to be considered a totally new experience, it was very much as close to 1 to 1 remake as possible.

Moot point though, BG3 is sweeping everything and deservedly so.

Profchaos201d ago

Yeah people have a preconceived notion of what constitutes a goty must be something new pushing technology to its limits and give us new gameplay approaches we've never had before.

Truth is I completely disagree I think a goty requires it releases within the year and it must be a full release.

I think Mario wonder is just as equally capable of being a goty as bg3 based on that and re4 is a remake yet it's entirely rebuilt so why shouldn't it be eligible it came to retail at full price this year and people brought it so I think it counts.

VersusDMC201d ago

People saying RE4R is as close to 1 to 1 remake are crazy.

Parries, steath kills, ammo crafting, on the fly weapon switching, moving while shooting, different bosses, new environments, new set pieces...yep definitely 1 to 1. 🤦‍♂️

FinalFantasyFanatic201d ago

Thankfully Wonder did make the list, it's the most refreshing Mario game in a long time, can't understand the mindset of some of those comments, at least this year's nomination list is mostly fair.

SyntheticForm201d ago

I'm pleased because Alan Wake 2 and Baldur's Gate 3 are the games that really blew me away this year. Both of them absolutely superb in their ways, and felt very fresh.

Profchaos201d ago

Imo I feel like Mario wonder was my goty (phantom liberty was technically my goty but that's not nominated as it's technically an expansion)

But 2d platformers just don't win these things so I'm not under any illusion it'll win.

Spiderman was good but didn't do enough to stand out to me after finishing it I enjoyed it but I'm not raving about it like a fanboy.

Re4 was fantastic but without the VR mode it's not goty material I know it's coming but it's not here yet.
Bg3 I know it's rep but it hasn't appealed to me.

Zelda felt like more botw and that was good but not amazing

My only other games this year I've truly enjoyed was sea of stars and dead space

It's been a interesting year I didn't think I'd be saying a 2d Mario game was my goty since I haven't really loved any of them like this since 3

Vengeance1138201d ago (Edited 201d ago )

Starfield getting rightfully beaten down lol love to see it. Not GOTY material, get that poser hack Todd Howard outta there.

1 nomination in a category that's an automatic win for BG3 lol

Sonic1881201d ago (Edited 201d ago )

It got nominated for best RPG. But I think Balder Gate 3 or Final Fantasy 16 is going to win it. Lol I think BG3 is going to get a lot of awards. Phantom Liberty should be in this category 🤔

Profchaos201d ago

Agree phantom liberty should be there however from what was there sea of stars won that category for me I legit loved that little game

OtterX200d ago (Edited 200d ago )

Yea it doesn't have a chance against BG3. Nothing in the rpg genre this year does.

You're right, BG3 is going to sweep some awards, and it'll stand testament of Larian's calibre & push to remain an independent studio. They made the game how they wanted to make it, proving they don't need hovering oversight. For me, they're heroes in the indie world in that they could pump out a product better than most AAA mega publishers these days.

-Mika-201d ago

Good for you. Starfield is still currently the 8th most played game on Xbox at the moment. While you are sitting here gloating, there are a large number of gamers who are still playing it.

201d ago
blackblades201d ago

8th place on Xbox but farther in overall games of the year in general

Profchaos201d ago

Yeah it didn't deliver but we had to endure countless articles about it at the time I got bored around 4 hours and just couldn't push myself further

LastAvenger201d ago

And when FFVII rebirth comes out: Oh yeah still playing Starfield over here… 😕

And when Helldivers 2 comes out. Yeah umm still playing Starfield over here 🙁

And when Wolverine comes out. Mmmm got Starfield over here. ☹️

Next years game awards comes out and Nintendo/Sony stomps it. …But Starfield is still the best. 😖

Gamingsince1981201d ago

8th on a list of not much to brag about with a console install base 1 third of the others maximum, that could mean anything numbers wise, it might be a few hundred lol

recoctimocassirnff201d ago

I'm honestly happy if people are actually enjoying Stafield, but it absolutely isn't goty material. And after so many bs decisions in past goty awards, it's really refreshing this game isn't nominated, as it should be.

fr0sty201d ago

Xbox barely has any killer games to play, so starfield being 8th says more about it being a mediocre game than it being amazing GOTY material.

CombatEmu200d ago

How much of that is because the Xbox doesn't have much else to offer vs. people actually liking the game? For such meager offerings, 8th place is actually not good. Not to mention, concurrent player count on Starfield fell below that of Skyrim on Steam.

crazyCoconuts201d ago

Is there a Most Over-hyped / Under-delivered category? I'd nominate it for that.
And play the Imagine Dragons official song when it wins...

Crows90201d ago

I wish they did have one...Angryjoe does his biggest disappointments list. We all know starfield will be there.

Plague-Doctor27200d ago

Keighley truly views this as the Oscars of gaming. He'd never put a negative award category up. We definitely need a video game Razzies now

notachance201d ago

hi-fi rush got more nominations than starfield because it's indeed the more superior game between those 2 lol

Most Anticipated Game for next year is actually interesting.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Hades II
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
Star Wars Outlaws
Tekken 8.

Best Community Support. No Man Sky is going strong

Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Destiny 2, Final Fantasy XIV, No Man’s Sky

solideagle201d ago (Edited 201d ago )

Wait no final fantasy 16 for goty?

I think it deserves the spot over 'RE 4

goldwyncq201d ago

Not really. RE4R is a great remake of one of the best games better and elevates the original, whereas FF16 is a badly paced game with an outdated side quest design that’s barely even an RPG.

Plague-Doctor27201d ago

FF16 was one of those games where the more I played it the less I liked. By the time I got the platinum I was pretty bored by the combat system. Overall the game was fine but I don't think it's too hard to think of 6+ games better than it this year.

I_am_Batman201d ago

If Death Stranding 2 was an option for the most anticipated category, it would've been a tough choice for me, but from the available options FF7 Rebirth wins my vote by a landslide.

Magog201d ago

I'll play both but FF7 is my most anticipated of that list. DS2 I'm sure will be good but like 95% of games I'll wait for it to go on sale.

Crows90201d ago

For me Dragons Dogma is up there...probably my most anticipated.

Sonic1881200d ago

Black Myth: Wukong is my most anticipated game

Eonjay201d ago

Is every VR nominated game a PSVR2 Exclusive?

Profchaos201d ago

I know every one of those is on psvr2 but I'm not surprised it's an excellent system for vr

FinalFantasyFanatic201d ago

Out of curiosity, what's come out for Steam lately VR wise? I'm not a fan of it, so I don't know what else we realisticly could have expected in this category.

Themba76201d ago

Bg3 should sweep again mainly because it’s the only game that made a statement this year

Flawlessmic201d ago

Hard to argue with the selected nominees for game of the year having played every game on that list. only game id possibly remove is re4 due to being a remake and replace it with Hogwarts or jedi survivor but in the end as you mentioned BG3 1000% deserves to win and was easily the best game i played all year.

Glad they got the selections right at least but yea BG# will sweep the categories its in.

JEECE200d ago

Not my type of game, but you know it's good when even before official launch other devs and journalists start a narrative about how other games can't be judged against it because it was made under "very specific circumstances."

Baldur's Gate 3's Side Quest Design is its Secret Weapon

With a game like Baldur's Gate 3, a number of factors make it successful—but perhaps none are as powerful as its side quest design.

Article makes a great point and I agree with it but is spoiler heavy. It should be marked. If you haven’t played through the game be warned as it even spoils parts of act 3.

Dirty_Lemons5d ago

Thanks for this dude, I am very interested in playing when I have time and am trying to avoid spoilers.

This game rocks, everything is quality, and I love the cutscenes, which remind me of Dragon Age Origin.

Baldur's Gate 3 PS5 Physical Deluxe Editions Delayed Due to Production Issues

While we were so hoping to not have to update owners of the console physical Deluxe Edition with any further news of delay, we’ve now run into more production issues which means that players who pre-ordered their PS5 North America copy that was expected to ship later this month, will now have to wait until July before they can get their hands on them.

shinoff21838d ago

Got that email like 2 weeks ago. Tbh I'm not tripping. I understand sht happens. I'm just glad they changed their minds on the physical release

Popsicle7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

I with you. I got the email is well. Happy to eventually own a physical copy and glad it’s not digital only.

Baldurs Gate 3 was great, but I dont think it is as crazy as people make it out to be. I actually think Starfield is closer to being a crazy insane once in a lifetime game, but Im ready for the flak Im about to get.

AndrewM7d ago

If you think that then you either A never played Bg3 or B never watched anyone else play it, or C you don't know anything about the game, or D you played it and have no idea of the marvel it is in every single aspect of game design. It doesn't matter what game you compare it to, it doesn't hold a candle. Let alone starfield.

Armaggedon6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

A. Ive played it thrice
B. Played with others, so there are moments of watching
C. Know more than I would care to about the game
D.
Thats quite bold, seeing as there are an inumerable amount of games for it to contend with. I also know plenty of people with their own gripes with the game.

As someone that creates things, and has actively sought to gather intel and understanding, I would say Baldurs Gates very nature makes it so it would have a hard time sitting upon the lofty throne you have given it. Similar to a Bethesda game, it is a game with a very large number of permutations and variables to consider, despite being smaller in scale by direct comparison.

Exemplary mastery of design philosophy is more certain to appear in a game that is for confined. One of the reasons I see Starfield the way I do is simply Bethesedas approach of breaking the rules. Anyone should hopefully know that you just dont try to fit a Bethesda game into a space game, but they found a way to pull it off. Do to the nature of large scale open world games, whether it is efficient or not depends on the angle one is looking at.

Many people would tell me immediately that loading screens and empty planets prove that they failed to pull it off. If you play Starfield like a conventional game yes

Armaggedon6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Part 2:
Many people would tell me immediately that loading screens and empty planets prove that they failed to pull it off. If you play Starfield like a conventional game yes, it will seem disjointed and lazy; however, to those who realize what Bethesda were going for, you will see that the game is severely underestimated. The idea of God is hated and loved by many, and there is much controversy. Starfield is closer to that idea than people even notice.
