Final Fantasy 16 DLC: Two Paid Expansions Announced

Producer Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P) announced that Final Fantasy 16 DLC is indeed on the way in the form of two paid expansions.

blackblades272d ago

Dlc was obvious, even if they say it's not planned.

CrimsonWing69271d ago

That’s what I thought they mentioned previously. Like, no Day 1 Patch and no DLC… yet, here we are.

I personally don’t have a lot of interest in the DLC since the game was boring to me except for the boss battles, but here’s hoping it’ll be something epic and related to Leviathan.

CrimsonWing69271d ago

@lucian229

Awwww thanks ☺️

Harkins1721271d ago

Plans changed. Not like the day 1 patch was 20gb.

Rocketisleague270d ago (Edited 270d ago )

I liked the game alot myself, skipped majority of side quests out of fear of boredom.

Buuut, one thing I don't like, is dlc after a story has finished. Likewise locking features into new game + and difficulty modes locked into new game +.

I take my first full play through as the whole package. Story, gameplay, emotions etc.

So, the only negative really for me aside some poor aide quests, was the difficulty being a tad to easy. Without a hard mode I'm supposed to wait for the new game + for the general gameplay to be fun? Likewise I can't find all enemies on my first play through? Imagine watching a TV show...out of order. Start in season 1, 2, 3, 5 and then 4? Why would you watch 4?

Don't get me wrong I died 4 or 5 times but mostly it was a cake walk. The odd time I was forced to use all potions.

A shoehorned in character to meet an agenda and check a box off a list, nothing more. Added nothing to the game or story other than cringe.

MrNinosan271d ago

Dion is an amazing character and his development through the story is amazing.

lucian229271d ago

Dion was not a typical gay character, actually there was barely any part about him being gay. Probably one of the better written ones

-Foxtrot271d ago

What you talking about, he was a great character and actually a really well done LGBT character since they don't make a big deal of it, he's portrayed as any other character.

The issue is he wasn't in it enough but despite his screen time he made a great character.

Typically when people are called homophobic and racist this is being done in a manner that is superfluous and meaningless as a result. However, you are a homophobe. :)

Harkins1721271d ago

Dion actually was handled very well. What are you smoking?

ThEusAisPoisonous271d ago

Sounds like every gay character.

gold_drake271d ago (Edited 271d ago )

you mean, the character who just happens to be gay without ever mentioning it and without people making a big deal about it in game ?

agenda. sure.

AdonisIsBeast270d ago

@gold_drake you must not have played the game through.

Rocketisleague270d ago (Edited 270d ago )

Probably the best gay character I've seen in a long time. Why is it japan can do it right but the US can't?

Now it’ll be even longer before I play the game. Oh well, still making my way through my backlog anyway.

excaliburps271d ago

You don't need the DLC to play the game. It's a self-contained story.

raWfodog271d ago (Edited 271d ago )

I just always wait to buy games until all the dlc is released for it, preferably in a complete edition, and then at a discount.

ravens52271d ago

I feel you cause I beat the game and enjoyed it alot. I have a firm stance against paid dlc tho so 🤷🏾.

franwex271d ago

I understand micros transactions, or pay to win. But I’m okay with expansions such as the Witcher 3 where they add to already a complete experience. To each their own I suppose.

Popsicle271d ago

@franwex I fully agree and avoid micro transactions and pay to win at all costs. That said, Witcher 3 expansions were a great value seeing that the length and quality of said expansions were greater than most self-contained games. I only have issues when DLC comes out instead of releasing a full self-contained game. This is why I don’t buy fighting games anymore (paying to unlock characters, etc.).

Given that FF16s base campaign is full of content and self-contained (I have 70+ hours in) I will gladly pay for an expansion if it is of quality.

blackblades270d ago (Edited 270d ago )

Same, also I tend to not even play the dlc if I get it through a complete edition. Spiderman the exception it was to good to pass on. The dlc even on sale cost more then getting the complete edition down the line

TheColbertinator271d ago

More playable characters
More Jill
Steam version too

I don't know about ''great'' rpg.

Most epic fight sequences and presentation? Yes

Worst side quests ever? Yes
Boring traversal? Yes
Empty worlds? Yes
Demo is infinitely more mature than the actual game? Yes
FF16=MMO side quests + Devil May Cry Lite

Alos8837d ago

I'd give it the great part, it's the RPG part I find dubious.

EternalTitan37d ago

There is no Roleplaying/decision making in this game.
No crafting there isnt even character builds because just like Dante/Bayonetta Clive has all skills and loadouts available to him.

CrimsonWing6936d ago (Edited 36d ago )

What do you mean there’s no role playing? Also, I’m fairly certain I made builds with Eikon abilities and I’ve gone to the blacksmiths to literally select craft weapons and gear. 🤷‍♂️

EternalTitan34d ago

How many 'builds' can you make?
Weapons and gear only increase numbers. Tell me about elemental weaknesses and status.

CrimsonWing6934d ago (Edited 34d ago )

@EternalTitan

Elemental weakness isn’t an RPG defining end-all-be all element.

What statuses are you asking about? F*cking status buffs and debuffs? You talking about stats that increase with gear crafting? Because all that’s present in the game.

The fact that you even admit there’s builds and RPG elements contradicts your claim. No matter how limited they may be, they exist in the game, therefore it is an RPG. I think the correct critique is instead of claiming it’s “not an RPG” you really mean to say it’s an RPG not as in-depth as it’s contemporaries. Regardless, it’s an RPG nonetheless even without “elemental weakness” playing in combat.

EternalTitan33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

@CrimsonWing69
"Elemental weakness isn’t an RPG defining end-all-be all element"
Why not?
Where is your source for this?

CrimsonWing6933d ago

@EternalTitan

So you’re telling me if a game has all the elements and mechanics of an RPG except elemental weakness exploits in combat that they’re not an RPG?

C’mon man, how about you show me where it says an RPG must have elemental weakness mechanics?

CrimsonWing6937d ago

Let’s be honest, this isn’t a “great” RPG. I am in the camp that it IS an RPG, no DMC game I’ve played is designed like this… but in terms of being a great RPG… well, I much prefer the RE-Trilogy over this.

That being said, I do think the DLCs have probably the best boss battles I’ve played in a game. Omega was crazy and the battle theme just amplified that for me. In the other hand, I’m struggling to think of a game that has a boss battle as great as Leviathan. Like, I played it on FF mode and it was sooooo intense and just a gorgeous and fun experience. The music was also top notch!

However, I really disliked most of everything of FF16. The Benedikta arc was fantastic, but after that the game was boring and a slog to get through. I think the boss battles were the best parts, but also inconsistent for me. Bahamut was peak for the base game, but everything else didn’t surpass that experience until you play the DLC bosses.

VersusDMC37d ago

The 2 DLC's were great. 2 new eikon ability sets (leviathan and...) and a survival/bloody palace mode with Rising Tide were great as well.

repsahj37d ago

The Base game is already great for me IMHO and the 2 DLC will even make it better.
