Game Rant Writes "As the Final Fantasy series has continued its transition into action combat, titles like Final Fantasy 16 have lost a part of the party dynamic."
Bobby writes, "Final Fantasy 16 — The Rising Tide is a great expansion but it's on the short side."
The Nerd Stash: "Final Fantasy 16's DLC is a worthy adventure that adds a lot of jaw-dropping moments and more Hollywood-style fights to an already great RPG."
I don't know about ''great'' rpg.
Most epic fight sequences and presentation? Yes
Worst side quests ever? Yes
Boring traversal? Yes
Empty worlds? Yes
Demo is infinitely more mature than the actual game? Yes
FF16=MMO side quests + Devil May Cry Lite
There is no Roleplaying/decision making in this game.
No crafting there isnt even character builds because just like Dante/Bayonetta Clive has all skills and loadouts available to him.
Let’s be honest, this isn’t a “great” RPG. I am in the camp that it IS an RPG, no DMC game I’ve played is designed like this… but in terms of being a great RPG… well, I much prefer the RE-Trilogy over this.
That being said, I do think the DLCs have probably the best boss battles I’ve played in a game. Omega was crazy and the battle theme just amplified that for me. In the other hand, I’m struggling to think of a game that has a boss battle as great as Leviathan. Like, I played it on FF mode and it was sooooo intense and just a gorgeous and fun experience. The music was also top notch!
However, I really disliked most of everything of FF16. The Benedikta arc was fantastic, but after that the game was boring and a slog to get through. I think the boss battles were the best parts, but also inconsistent for me. Bahamut was peak for the base game, but everything else didn’t surpass that experience until you play the DLC bosses.
The 2 DLC's were great. 2 new eikon ability sets (leviathan and...) and a survival/bloody palace mode with Rising Tide were great as well.
From the best abilities to their rotation in combat, learn everything that makes the best build to use in The Rising Tide DLC for FF16.
Agreed.
"This system still has many fans holding Final Fantasy 13 as one of the best in the series"
Who? I hardly see anyone defending FF13 like this.
Trading a comprehensive party system with slower more methodical turn based combat for a protagonist focused active combat system has just been where FF has been going. Was anybody suddenly expecting a pivot just because they did a bit of a mix of systems in FF7R? Especially considering they made it abundantly clear how they were crafting the combat in 16 with the earliest trailers and info drops? Was anybody really thinking "15 had issues so clearly they'll pivot back 20 years to FFX"?
Just another case of a "journalist" complaining because they completely lack any critical thinking or analytical skills, two things that, you know, kinda sorta just entirely separate proper journalists from whoever it is these gaming websites like to take on. If they could think in the slightest, they would know largely dissolving the party system is so far off the reason 13 and 15 were poorly received.
Quite the trend lately of negative FF16 articles and pro Starfield articles. MS reaching deep into those pockets to swing marketing lol
All that negativity and yet good chance FF16 takes GOTY.
I'm getting towards the end of the game, and I have very mixed feelings about it myself. First of all, I think the demo set expectations too high. When FF16 was first shown, I knew it was a different take on Final Fantasy. We can't act like we aren't in the middle of the Final Fantasy 7 remake saga, this is big and it's spanning several years with 3 installments. If you want the more traditional Final Fantasy, FF7 remake is our game right now. FF16 was meant to be different and it was handled by a different team.
Just looking at the character designs, I knew FF16 would be different, the main protagonists are in their 30's for most of the game, the NPC's are so generic looking. I knew this would be a more action oriented game and that the chances of me finding a waifu and getting emotionally attached to the story like I did with FF10 or FF7 were slim. In fact the only character that is attractive and even resembles a waifu is Jill Warrick, and even thought I haven't beat the game yet, she seems really serious and all business through the majority of the game. But still, she's Clive's main companion and pretty much the closest thing to a waifu in this game.
All that being said, I can't make excuses for how mediocre the story ended up being, especially after such a strong start with the first 2 hours that were displayed in the demo. That continues to be the main problem with Final Fantasy games in my opinion. It's not the gameplay, it's the bad writing with these strange and unfulfilling stories. It was the same thing with FF13 and FF15. The last great Final Fantasy story was FF10. It's time Square Enix got new writers.
