Sounds like a typical Final Fantasy mixed reviews as usual.

At least most are positive.

senorfartcushion329d ago

Fight what fight? They’re making a random comment on a website? Jesus

pitythefool329d ago

@senor

Nah, he isn’t, he’s trying to paint a false picture.

I_am_Batman329d ago

Good to see it's getting reviewed well. Can't wait to dive in tomorrow (hopefully my copy arrives on time).

LordoftheCritics329d ago

Videogamer: ''The move to real-time combat scores points for accessibility and may very well draw in many fence sitters, but some of the shrewd tactics and complexity of previous Final Fantasy games have been lost in the transition.''

Ah the good ol hate action combat reviewer.

LOL, a few FF purists will not detract me from experiencing this game, definitely not mixed reviews when out of 88 reviews it has an 88 metascore.

It was to be expected that some reviewers change adverse would give this game a lower score.

RupeeHoarder329d ago (Edited 329d ago )

Almost all 9’s+ is hardly mixed. Another Sony banger.

I_am_Batman329d ago (Edited 329d ago )

Sure, I'm just saying that doesn't make it a Sony game. It's a 3rd party exclusive.

Lightning77329d ago (Edited 329d ago )

It's a Square Banger Sony didn't make it.

Nobody is saying Forspoken is a Sony banger you can't. Both games are Square games.

andy85329d ago

@Lightning77 To be fair when Forspoken released people were doing exactly that. Calling it a Sony exclusive that's a failure.

King_Noctis328d ago (Edited 328d ago )

I don’t think you know what a third party *timed* exclusive game is. And I don’t think the people who upvoted you know either.

I wouldn't call an 88 on Metacritic "mixed"

RpgSama329d ago

And we know why it's 88, people that still cannot get over FF not being Turn based for this one.

Mostly see 10’s and some 9s . Only 7 I’ve seen.

Nacho_Z329d ago

You got the word mixed in there but it doesn't seem to apply.

FPSRUSSIA329d ago

this is the lowest score i have seen so far not bad most are very positive.

TreMillz329d ago

I expect reviews from the east to be mixed compared to the West, They want the old style turn base glory, understandable, but FF needed to switch to modern times in my opinion, ARPG was the way to go

Magog329d ago

Eurogamer are Microsoft and Nintendo shills. They didn't recommend Horizon Zero Dawn either which is the best action game I've ever played.

goldwyncq329d ago

They griped about lack of diversity in their review and the score suddenly makes sense. What a joke gaming journalism has become.

DickyD1226329d ago

@the disagree. Why? I just stated something? Lol anyway I have it downloaded probably won't get to it til tomorrow night but excited anyway.

dumahim328d ago

solideagle329d ago (Edited 329d ago )

to be quite honest with you FF VII Remake got 87 on Meta and that game was one of the best in my humble opinion. This is sitting on 88, so It's going to be awesome game regardless of these low scores. As Magog pointed out he gave Redfall same score lol

I am pretty sure it would have been 9.5 if it was published by Nintendo :p /s

VanHalen329d ago

Digital trends and euro gamer gave it a 60. A lot of 70s starting to surface. Side quests I’m hearing are very boring and repetitive. Got some nice flashy effects, but gameplay seems flawed. What a disappointment

MrNinosan329d ago

All the clickbait journalist will give it below 8, and will get the Xbox fanboys cheering, that goes for everything.
We'll see the same shit with Starfield, and then the PS-fanboys will cheer low scores.

FFXVI seems to be a masterpiece, whatever any troll journalist says.

ChasterMies329d ago

I support publications that are willing to give out “bad” review scores. Review score inflation is still a big problem with games. 7/10 is good score. It’s only because most publications score every game at 8/10 and above that we think 7/10 looks bad.

MrNinosan329d ago

7 is a good for an average game.
From what I've seen, played and heard, FFXVI is not an average game, just like God of War, Last of Us, Breath of the Wild etc.

When those games get a score below 8, it's not because the game is just good, it's because the journalist (who of course are allowed to have their own opinions) either looking for faults, doesn't like the platform or simply is paid/asking for clicks.

darren_poolies328d ago

You know some people can you have different options right? And that's all a review is, an opinion. Not everyone is trolling or trying to get one up on the other.

King_Noctis328d ago (Edited 328d ago )

Apparently that is too hard for some people to understand. Reviews scores are just arbitrary. As for me I played the demo of the game, I enjoyed it immensely and I can’t wait for my physical copy to arrive.

Shiro173329d ago (Edited 329d ago )

That's says allot about the website. When they give a review of a game that has so many flaws and horrible gameplay a 7 then give ff16 a 7 also you know they trolling or are biased towards Xbox

RpgSama329d ago

LOL, there's more entertainment and higher production values to be had on the demo of FFXVI alone than on the entire Redfall

Ninver329d ago

Wow. Thanks for shedding light on their bs. I'll never go to this website ever.

darren_poolies328d ago

Literally a different reviewer.

King_Noctis328d ago

Redfall was reviewed by Josh Wise. This one is reviewed by Tom Bardwell. Maybe read what you share next time?

I don't know about ''great'' rpg.

Most epic fight sequences and presentation? Yes

Worst side quests ever? Yes
Boring traversal? Yes
Empty worlds? Yes
Demo is infinitely more mature than the actual game? Yes
FF16=MMO side quests + Devil May Cry Lite

Alos8821d ago

I'd give it the great part, it's the RPG part I find dubious.

EternalTitan21d ago

There is no Roleplaying/decision making in this game.
No crafting there isnt even character builds because just like Dante/Bayonetta Clive has all skills and loadouts available to him.

CrimsonWing6920d ago (Edited 20d ago )

What do you mean there’s no role playing? Also, I’m fairly certain I made builds with Eikon abilities and I’ve gone to the blacksmiths to literally select craft weapons and gear. 🤷‍♂️

EternalTitan18d ago

How many 'builds' can you make?
Weapons and gear only increase numbers. Tell me about elemental weaknesses and status.

CrimsonWing6918d ago (Edited 18d ago )

@EternalTitan

Elemental weakness isn’t an RPG defining end-all-be all element.

What statuses are you asking about? F*cking status buffs and debuffs? You talking about stats that increase with gear crafting? Because all that’s present in the game.

The fact that you even admit there’s builds and RPG elements contradicts your claim. No matter how limited they may be, they exist in the game, therefore it is an RPG. I think the correct critique is instead of claiming it’s “not an RPG” you really mean to say it’s an RPG not as in-depth as it’s contemporaries. Regardless, it’s an RPG nonetheless even without “elemental weakness” playing in combat.

EternalTitan17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

@CrimsonWing69
"Elemental weakness isn’t an RPG defining end-all-be all element"
Why not?
Where is your source for this?

CrimsonWing6917d ago

@EternalTitan

So you’re telling me if a game has all the elements and mechanics of an RPG except elemental weakness exploits in combat that they’re not an RPG?

C’mon man, how about you show me where it says an RPG must have elemental weakness mechanics?

CrimsonWing6921d ago

Let’s be honest, this isn’t a “great” RPG. I am in the camp that it IS an RPG, no DMC game I’ve played is designed like this… but in terms of being a great RPG… well, I much prefer the RE-Trilogy over this.

That being said, I do think the DLCs have probably the best boss battles I’ve played in a game. Omega was crazy and the battle theme just amplified that for me. In the other hand, I’m struggling to think of a game that has a boss battle as great as Leviathan. Like, I played it on FF mode and it was sooooo intense and just a gorgeous and fun experience. The music was also top notch!

However, I really disliked most of everything of FF16. The Benedikta arc was fantastic, but after that the game was boring and a slog to get through. I think the boss battles were the best parts, but also inconsistent for me. Bahamut was peak for the base game, but everything else didn’t surpass that experience until you play the DLC bosses.

VersusDMC21d ago

The 2 DLC's were great. 2 new eikon ability sets (leviathan and...) and a survival/bloody palace mode with Rising Tide were great as well.

repsahj21d ago

The Base game is already great for me IMHO and the 2 DLC will even make it better.
