Playstation VR 2 is a bargain despite its high price

Playstation VR 2 could fulfill the expectations that PC VR has disappointed in recent years at a comparatively fair price.

at the end of the day the headset + controllers is $50 more than what the PSVR headset + move controllers + camera bundle costed at launch. It's hard to go bananas over that little of a price difference considering how much more tech is packed into this thing.

SullysCigar498d ago

Exactly - and that's without factoring in inflation from 2016 to today's bonkers levels.

It's not expensive for what you get. That's indisputable when you compare it to other headsets. I can understand if people think it's more than they're able/willing to spend, but it's still straight up good value.

Vx_498d ago (Edited 498d ago )

I’ll wait to see how it runs on PC, if I wanna truly enjoy VR gaming I don’t wanna be limited to just the ps5 Games

Neonridr498d ago (Edited 498d ago )

it would be amazing if they added PC support, but I highly doubt they wil

S2Killinit498d ago

I dont think its coming to PC. Also, dont think You can find a headset that plays everything.

Charlieboy333498d ago

The guy who developed the original PSVR compatable drivers for PC already said the chance of getting PSVR2 to work properly with PC is basically 0. So...don't hold your breath.

Babadook7498d ago (Edited 498d ago )

The PC took a loooong time to catch up with the software on psvr. So I disagree with your premise. If the coming gen is the same, I would hate to be limited to just the pc games.

Also I fail to see how it benefits Sony to pay for pricy hardware and then support pc only stores like Zuckerbergs meta.

S2Killinit498d ago

Exactly correct.

PSVR2 level of performance competes with the highest end headsets costing at least $1000-1500 or more, some of which are not even considered gaming headsets. Then there is the cost of a PC capable of running these types of headsets.

Plus, PSVR2 has cutting edge tech that doesnt exist even in those high end headsets.

For 50$ more than what we paid for PSVR1. Forgetting inflation.

deleted498d ago (Edited 498d ago )

Well worth the price no doubt. I'm going to have to wait, but I will have one by the end of the year!

*edit - very good point @Neonridr. WIth the necessary Move controllers, PSVR1 was almost the same price. PSVR2 is a beast. I hope it ushers in an era of more hardcore focused VR gaming, bc even on PC, there are too many minigame type experiences, and not enough full fledged games. (don't get me wrong, I'll play some of the mini games too, but I'm ready for some more fleshed out games!)

SullysCigar498d ago

Quest kept the VR industry afloat, but at the same time, it stagnated it. Overall, I think Quest has played an important roll, as PSVR did, but PSVR2 will enable developers to spread their wings and this is awesome news for PC VR gamers too.

This is a big generational leap. We're in for a treat, looking at the games already announced.

deleted498d ago (Edited 498d ago )

Yea, I will continue to play Steam VR w my Q2 for a few things that will probably never come to PSVR2 like MS Flight Simulator, American & Euro Truck Simulator (a couple hidden gems for me! You'd think truck driving in a realistic world would be boring, but pretty amazing in VR.).... I appreciate what Quest 2 did to help the industry afloat, but it'll always be just a low cost Steam VR headset for me. I'm not crazy about the native Q2 games, except a few that don't need a lot of graphical power.

It's time to move the VR industry forward! Even if it encourages more developers to produce games for both PC VR and PSVR2 together, that is a huge win for VR gamers everywhere, because not enough games were being made. VR is still relatively niche, so we need to applaud when any full fledged titles are made, regardless of PC or PSVR2. I expect huge things from Sony though in bringing their beloved franchises to PSVR2. I may actually shed a tear if they ever announce Killzone VR! haha

Man, as far as last gen Blood & Truth was sooo good as far as story driven VR games go. Even if it was sort of on-rails, it kept the pacing of the game flowing perfectly, making you feel like a real badass. The acting and story telling was top notch!

It's an absolute shame it didn't get much attention, but I'm hoping a Remaster (soon) on PSVR2 will help give it the success it always deserved. Aaand a sequel..... if you finished it, you KNOW it's perfectly set up for a sequel!

I want to see more risks taken like this w PSVR2! Could you imagine an Uncharted game in the Style of Blood and Truth? It could truly be epic w the power of the PS5.

Garethvk498d ago

I ordered ours. There was sticker shock at first but then I saw how comparable units were 700-1K and it was a good deal. They need to support it with good games as PSVR games for me got old fast and I often had gaps of time where I did not play it.

Eonjay498d ago

Well Horizon and GT7 are a great start. I'm not worried about Sony. I'm more anxious to see if other companies (besides Capcom) provide additional AAA support. PCVR gamers are banking on PSVR 2 becoming a success to drive the demand for high quality VR experiences.
Sony seems to think that the best way to do this is by making dedicated VR games and hybrid games. I think this is a smart strategy because it lowers the risk to developers overall. We will get our first induction in March when Resident Evil 4 lands.

Garethvk498d ago

I am not a racing fan nor big on Horizon so hoping the new stuff delivers.

CBaoth497d ago

that's amusing to me Eonjay because it's the level of commitment from Sony that I'm worried about. 3rd party publishers? Don't worry amigo . They flock to where the money is. If Sony pushes this with stout marketing, perhaps releases it for PC, and most importantly has ND, Santa Monica, Insomniac, Guerilla, and Sucker Punch support it with quality titles, 3rd parties will rush to fill the gaps that Indies can't. VR1 didn't get Sony's full support; almost like they were hedging their bets in case it didn't perform. Firesprite, as good as Call of the Mountain looks, can't be Sony's only major developer making VR

Eonjay497d ago

@CBaoth

Actually Sony did support PSVR with some of the best titles on the system including Wipeout, Blood and Truth and Astrobot. But PSVR had a lot of limitations that made true AAA game development very difficult as is evidenced by the likes of GT Sports limited VR mode.

Secondly, your expectations that now every studio would be VR experts is troubling and doesn't reflect reality. Even now as you said of Horizon, it is being developed by FireSprite. An actual experienced VR studio.

Next, I'm sure the other studios will begin releasing VR modes for their games like Polyphony but this isn't gonna happen all at once. Nor would you expect that. Nor will every game be fit for a VR translation.

All that being said we have two actually AAA VR games coming from SIE. These two titles by themselves will best anything they did on PSVR 1 save Astrobot.

They have given us reason to be hopeful at this point. I think they are gonna blow us away this gen with VR.

343_Guilty_Spark498d ago

The Oculus Quest 2 is a bargain. The PSVR2 is a higher quality headset with a premium price.

KyRo498d ago

The Oculus Quest 2 was a bargain. It went up by £100 in the UK and at least in the retailer I work in, it's sales have tanked because of it

Eonjay498d ago

I feel like Meta should have held off the price increase until Quest 3.

ModsDoBetter497d ago

Oculus Quest 2 was great up until they forced Facebook integration, but I’m sure they eventually back-pedalled on that decision. Then they jacked the price up.

Eonjay498d ago

PSVR 2 isn't premium priced. It hundreds cheaper than comparable headsets.

Eidolon498d ago

It is/was at $299 for 128gb when I bought it at the beginning of 2022.

S2Killinit498d ago (Edited 498d ago )

PSVR2 does what headsets at $1000 to $2000 price range do, and it has tech that even these headsets dont have.

Price wise, can’t beat PSVR2 if you want high end VR.

I'm getting one a bit after launch. I can't wait. I admit that I was pissed about the price at first, but after comparing it to other sets, it's very reasonable. Still have to save up for it though.

Really hoping Sony invests more 1st party studios into making games. They could really dominate if the likes of Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Sucker Punch, Santa Monica used their talents on VR. Please Sony, don't pull a Vita and neglect to throw lots of dev support on this venture!

Sorry but PSVR2 is dead and double dead at any sale price. It was dead before it launched as the "premium" VR scene lost all the AAA developers and now it is all indie mobile phone crap quality software.

State of Play is back! Tune in live for updates on PS5 and PS VR2 titles, plus a look at PlayStation Studios games arriving later this year.

Im getting a bit of GotG vibes from Concord.

Ragnarok coming September 2024... that's just shy of 2 years since the PS5 release in November 2022.

-Foxtrot1d 3h ago (Edited 1d 3h ago )

I thought exactly the same. If they made it more like the GotG game and it wasn't online focused I'd have been sold instantly.

BISHOP-BRASIL1d ago (Edited 1d ago )

Yup, I was hyped up by the cinematic trailer and immediately put off the moment the gameplay trailer started, that was very high quality and great concept cinematic just for another Overwatch wannabe... Here's hoping they succeed so eventually someday they make an actual campaign focused entry for the franchise, but I'm not holding my breath and I'm definitely not falling for always online crap and FOMO just to follow drip fed cinematic "content".

EDIT: I'm still watching it as I comment... OMG they have another hero shooter, Marvel Rivals, seriously, they missed 2020 or something? For those not into online only and VR games, gotta say, poor show so far...

Profchaos1d 3h ago

Gotg would of been a hit if it released before Avengers was my goty a few years back so I'm intrigued here

RaidenBlack1d 3h ago (Edited 1d 3h ago )

GotG is very underrated and had the unfortunate luck of releasing just after Avengers.
Its really good and more people should play it.

Lightning771d ago

Concord didn't do anything for me personally just another Overwatch mash up with other fps stuff. I mostly popped for Dynasty Warriors for next year. That was my biggest reveal I was genuinely excited for.

No Ghost 2. It's very clear Sony will wait later to Announce the Big Aaa's they don't wanna announce stuff too early and rather announce it closer to release.

darthv721d 3h ago

Maybe its just me but Astrobot looked more R&C inspired than ever.

P_Bomb1d 3h ago

Astro won the show. Looks epic! Huge bosses too like from the PSVR game.

shinoff21831d 3h ago

Astro bot and silent hill 2 remake are what I'm liking out of this.

RaidenBlack1d 3h ago (Edited 1d 3h ago )

Most games appeared good.
Where Winds Meet and Monster Hunter seemed like those needed a bit more polish but that's ok as those aren't releasing anytime soon but I am still kinda worried regarding SH2Remake. Still looks rough and from rear view, James Sunderland looks nearly identical to Leon Kennedy's model from RE4Remake. Hope I am wrong though.
Other games were decent. Even Marvel Rivals.
Ballad of Antara was the highlight for me, followed by Infinity Nikki(purely on the art style alone).
And glad that, Path of Exile 2 is coming to PS5 and Ragnarok is coming to PC!
Behemoth for VR2 also looked really interesting.

PapaBop1d 3h ago

You actually liked Infinity Nikki art style?

PSPSA18h ago

Was my favorite looking game of the show, art style looks amazing

RaidenBlack16h ago

Its not my type of game ...but the design and art style is really well thought out

Lightning7723h ago(Edited 23h ago)

Marvel Rivals had a PC invite alpha test a few weeks back and they love the hell out it saying it's an Overwatch killer. I'm definitely down to play and play as my favorite.

STORM. ❄️💨🌊⚡

There's a closed beta in July on consoles but I doubt I'll be able to get in.

InUrFoxHole20h ago

In overwatch 's defense didn't it kill itself?

Michiel198916h ago

they also gave out beta keys where you had to sign an nda not to say anything negative about the game, otherwise you could not play. Don't support stuff like that :) surprised they even showed it here cause it looks terrible and it will fail faster than Artifact
