"Let's not muck about, that's a good starting lineup of first and third party games."

Where´s TLOU 2, R&C: Rift Apart and all that "strong support" from third party publishers?

747d ago
Silly gameAr747d ago

Don't be sour, Obscure. You see the quality of the games. Sony isn't betting everything on PS Plus, so why would they put everything from them and their 3rd party partners on the service at once?

The salt from Obscure is amazing I love to see it 😂.

"I don´t care about their lame excuses. I just want to see how many of those people that used to talk sh!t about Gamepass will now make a 180° "

Noting to do a 180 for. It's not a gamepass competitor. It's just additional service for extra games per month. No watered down first party games on release date. Refresh of games each month. It's just PS+ but extra. TLOU 2 and R&C will join at some point.

SurgicalMenace747d ago

@Obscure

You just sound bitter....

I see it pains you to see any positive press coming to a source you've chosen not to support. How about you redirect that misguided contempt towards the company who you've chosen to support and has not delivered. That is where your anger's truly coming from, right?

How dare we be satisfied while you're going without, right? How dare Sony stay committed to delivering quality across the board. If GP is delivering so much forfillment, how is it that you're not playing all those great games? Why even pay attention to this train wreck of a service coming from Sony? Starfield being delayed only aims to amplify your anticipation and give you more time to clear out that evergrowing backlog? You're the real MVP champ.😁

SullysCigar747d ago

The fact is everyone bought those games, because they're awesome. That's why those developers are thriving. They try hard and are duly rewarded with critical acclaim and money.

Day 1 exclusives on a subscription service are a bad idea, imo. You risk ending up with low-end or big-brand-but-sub-expectation experiences.

People will play it regardless of quality, so corners get cut.

It's ideal for older classics and indies though.

KingofBandits747d ago

lol I wouldn't play LOU2 if they gave it away for free

Thats a brillant starting line up!!!!

Man now im excited for this so many good games on there i havent played in such a long time and its only going to get better.

Sony has the best catalogue of games hands down.

Bring itttt!!

Obscure_Observer747d ago

"I dont beleive its demonised at all"

No offence, but you have´t been around here for very long to know those I'm referring to.

"Is sony chucked an ms like this year and has no new games coming exceot for old ones or lesser 3rd party titles then thats an issue"

Well, unless you know something we don't, Sony (so far) has zero NEW first party games set to be released in 2023. So I would be careful before run my mouth. Those "issues" can hit both sides.

Besides, we don´t really know which or/if any first party game will be released for Xbox this year before 12th June.

In a perfect world all games would meet their deadlines and exceed expectations by delivering a high quality experience for everyone. Some people love spell bs about how Gamepass will drive development of low quality games. But when a Xbox game gets delayed to meet the desirable high quality, it´s doom and gloom for Xbox.

It is what it is. When comes to Xbox, be damned if you do and damned if you don't.

dumahim747d ago

@Obscure_Observer

"Well, unless you know something we don't, Sony (so far) has zero NEW first party games set to be released in 2023."

Marve's Spider-Man 2 is scheduled for 2023.

"So I would be careful before run my mouth. Those "issues" can hit both sides."

I think there's a difference here though. We know what most of the MS studios are working on. Sony, we don't.

Eonjay747d ago

Gamepass isn't demonized. I think you have to stop internalizing the opinions of other people. You have to be willing to allow people to have ideas that differ from your own. I understand both sides of the Gamepass discussion and think that just because something doesn't work for Sony doesn't mean the same for Microsoft.

sparky77747d ago

Yeah it's actually decent, now PS gamers can get a taste of what it's like to have something like Game Pass.

VenomUK747d ago

@Sparky77 One of the great wins of Game Pass is that it has created a buzz for Xbox users who are happy at the tremendous value of all the included games and the new titles that are added each month. It looks like the new PlayStation Plus service will be able to create that buzz for the PlayStation community.

Obscure_Observer747d ago

"Yeah it's actually decent, now PS gamers can get a taste of what it's like to have something like Game Pass."

This!

I predict that subscriptions services will not be demonized going forward, which is a good thing.

747d ago
Flawlessmic747d ago

@obscure

I dont beleive its demonised at all, the only thing is people want sony to do day and date for first party exclusives and while ms has the money to do that sony does not which would mean a drop in quality and lot of us are more than happy to pay for top quality if the other option means lesser games.

Thats the one sticking point people have, but to have a catalogue of older games is fine as long as first party games get released through out the year on top of that.

Is sony chucked an ms like this year and has no new games coming exceot for old ones or lesser 3rd party titles then thats an issue.

I just can't imagine why they would stagger the game announcements lmfao. EVERY game in the service at launch should have been announced at one time especially since the price and tier list was already announced. Do they expect excitement over these staggered posts?

ABizzel1747d ago

The line-up isn't bad at all for the Extra Tier, and that's only around 1/8 of the planned releases (stated to have up to 400). I assume there are more Ubisoft, Square, Capcom, Bandi-Namco, and WB games coming considering they've already been announced and have 3rd party releases.

EA, Activision (we'll see), Take-Two (Rockstar is listed???), Konami, Sega, Tecmo, Embracer, and more are currently missing, so I guess those contracts are still being worked out as last minute. Activision is a weird one to place, because it would have had to had been done prior to all of the acquisition stuff. EA has EA Play and likely will only put their content on PS+ if it's still shown as EA Play or they get a portion of the profits. But the others should be there.

The Classic side....needs a lot of work, but again this is just a sample as it's supposed to have up to 340. So we'll see.

TGGJustin747d ago

It's a really good start and way to go letting us enjoy the PS1 and PSP games we bought back when. We know if that was Nintendo we'd be having to subscribe or pay for them again.

747d ago
MadLad747d ago (Edited 747d ago )

I was really expecting more from the legacy titles (PS1 and PS2).
If you're going to put backwards compatibility behind a paywall, I was expecting a lot more than what is offered out of the gate.

They're just going to sprinkle in a some titles here and there every month. Not different than what Nintendo is doing, and that hasn't gone over well for them either.

Not seeing a big difference between what was offered if you already had PS+ and Now. Doesn't really feel like much of a step forward.

Flawlessmic747d ago

U dont see a difference between 3 often decent at best games a month to this???

MrNinosan747d ago

Have you seen the full list somewhere, which no one else has?
And what games do you need to be "happy"?

MadLad747d ago (Edited 747d ago )

I'll be happy when I can go to the storefront and outright just buy the games I want. This is all emulation after all.

You can run PS1 and PS2 emulators on the series s at 4k for the cost of $20. Where's the incentive here?

TheGreatGazoo30747d ago

@PICAYU

No, RealTedCruz is pointing out that on PC and Xbox you don't have to pay a subscription to play old games. You can simply go to the store, pay the $1-$5 for the old games and play them.

VersusDMC747d ago

Is it behind a paywall?

"Also, players who have previously purchased the digital version of select games from the original PlayStation and PSP generation will not have to make a separate purchase or sign up to PlayStation Plus to play these titles on PS4 or PS5. When these titles are released for PS4 and PS5, players can head to PlayStation Store and download a version for the consoles at no extra cost if they already own the digital version of the title. Some of the titles will also be available for individual purchase "

MadLad747d ago

And those numbers are small.
If they didn't want people to pay the service fee for classic games, they would have all titles on the Playstation store, and wouldn't keep trying to pull older storefronts from being accessible to consumers.

747d ago
Silly gameAr747d ago (Edited 747d ago )

@VersusDMC

Didn't a certain company have to make a patent just to do this? But PS plus does it automatically? Well, you can't really complain about that, unless you're just looking for things to complain about.

darthv72747d ago

I really like that approach as i have several digital PS1 and PSP games on my PSP and PS3 that I would think should be part of this. Even better would be if they allowed you to validate your owned disc games and get the enhanced digital version as well but I wont fault them for doing this as its a nice first step that could eventually lead to the next. So this is very good news indeed.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 747d ago
Petebloodyonion747d ago

well, the good news seems to be that you won't have to signup or pay to play some of the old games if you own the digital licenses.
Seems to be in line with what MS is dowing regarding OG Xbox titles.
It's a start :)

MrBaskerville747d ago

They said there would be 120 classic games at launch, so I guess they'll expand the list later?

SurgicalMenace747d ago ShowReplies(2)
wwinterj747d ago

It would be nice if I could just put in the discs I already own and play my PS1, 2 and 3 games naturally or at the very least get a free download of these games. However for a service this isn't bad at all. I'll see where it goes before I subscribe.

ABizzel1747d ago

There are supposed to be up to 340, so we'll see. The PS4/PS5 line-up is good, but I agree they need to show more for the PS1/PS2/PS3/PSP.

Charlieboy333747d ago

"I was really expecting more from the legacy titles (PS1 and PS2)"
But of course you were.....playing old games is a major part of being an Xbox gamer after all.

Profchaos747d ago (Edited 747d ago )

Backwards compatibility isn't exactly behind a paywall the article does state that if you previously brought classic PS1 and PSP games you can download and play them without the need for a subscription.
There's also an added benifit of higher resolutions and frame rates on these games with save states.

But yes PS3 is still behind a paywall due to cloud streaming.

PS1 , PSP and PS2 games will all be available to download from the store at no cost of you brought them digitally on the PSP, PS3 or psvita.

I believe PS2 may be an extention of the PS4 backwards compatibility program which already works natively with ps5 and the games are still up for sale I'm not sure if they will merge with PS3 games brought on the PS3 at this stage but I hope so as there wasn't to many PS2 games that reached psn on ps4 but the PS4 had many including all the GTA stories games

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Combat Director Wants Final Part To Offer Players "Even More Freedom"

The Final Fantasy VII Rebirth combat director has expressed that he wants the final part in the trilogy to offer players "even more freedom".

i wonder if where gonna be able to jump

-Foxtrot11h ago

I love the game so far but please don’t make the final part a mini game fest

Everytime I get to a new part in Rebirth it’s “mini game time”

Inverno5h ago

Hope ya don't mind me asking since it seems like you've played it, did it feel like a decent step up from the last game or was it more like the best from the last but more polished?

CS75h ago

It makes Remake feel like a demo.

9.5/10 imo. And I think the “mini games” did a great job of adding variety to the gameplay. Purely optional as well.

-Foxtrot4h ago

Here's my thoughts

I think it's a big step up from the first instalment, I'm enjoying it way more.

I thought keeping it just in Midgar was silly, it felt dragged out and it didn't have much variation in terms of the scenery.

However with Rebirth, as soon as you get out of Kalm you have a big world to explore and it's great to just wander round and explore.

Now that I'm half way in though, despite still liking what I'm playing, the gameplay loop is now starting to slow down on me. I've got to a new region and I'm like "Yaaay...need to go and find those towers again, oh look another special beast marker, is that a bird I see in the distance? Better follow it to another Mako Crystal"

It's like....you know how Peter Jackson was only supposed to have two Hobbit films then Warner Bros wanted a third film so he stretched the second film out as much as he could so he could keep stuff for the third film making a trilogy? Yeah it feels like that, so these mini games are a part of that overall gameplay loop to keep us going and stretch the game out overall so they have something for the third and final game.

I personally think you could have had the first instalment get you out of Midgar and through to Grasslands / Junon and the second game finishes things off.

Becuzisaid5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

I had a weird cycle of love/hate for all the mini games as I played through. At first I really hated the seeming need to check all these boxes while exploring the grasslands. I didn't enjoy the Gilgamesh quest initially, and thought Queen's blood was fine but didn't want to commit to it. The side quests didn't really grab me either.

Then for some reason everything in Junon region changed my mind and I did pretty much everything. I liked most of the side quests, I actually liked playing fort condor (didn't care for it in the intergrade dlc). And my interest for completing these quests stayed pretty much through to Cosmo Canyon.

Then they added that horrible Lifestream memory/battle mini game and I started getting so burnt out of it all. I just wanted to do the story. I didn't do any side quests in neibleheim and beyond except for the summon. I abandoned Gilgamesh.

So what I'm saying is I would like the third part to go back to the focused progression from remake. Keep the mini games to the gold saucer. Start the game snowboarding if you want, but from there keep the story rolling.

-Foxtrot4h ago

That's funny you say that because I did everything in the Grasslands but once in Junon I started to slow down a little until Corel where by the end I was burnt out. I'm still currently going but I'm just doing what I can while things keep getting thrown at me.

I would have preferred half of these mini game side fillers / collectibles for some really beefy side quests that really adds onto the world of FFVII.

Inverno3h ago

Sounds like they hadn't really figured out what they wanted to do with Remake and this one is more of what they thought of doing which is probably why they're dragging it out to make a trilogy. Disappointed to hear it has towers cause man do i hate towers lol. It's been a while since I've played the first and it'll be a while longer to play the sequel, but it sounds like I'll enjoy it. 7 really impressed me especially after being disappointed with 15, felt like Square finally realized that FF was THEIR big franchise again.

Tacoboto1h ago

How many hours are you into it at this point?

My friend got like 20-30 in and pretty much quit because of its mini game era. He loved and basically binged through Gran Blue compared to Rebirth

The combat is my favorite thing about Rebirth. Would be really cool if they can improve it even more.

Knightofelemia3h ago

I hope after FF7 Square will either give a new FF game the remake treatment. Or give some of their older titles a remake treatment like Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, even Xenogears.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2's Scope Was Impacted by Xbox Series S Limitations

Wccf tech writes: "Kingdom Come Deliverance 2's scope was impacted by the Xbox Series S hardware limitations, as developers could only make a game that was 25% bigger than its predecessor."

This is the issue with things like this

Xbox Series X is apparently to MS the worlds most powerful console

However the Series S is obviously a limitation because it’s underpowered and developers have to go for parity.

So what’s the point of the world’s most powerful console if you are holding third party developers back? They aren’t going to push themselves if they have to think about the weakest console.

The issue wouldn’t be as bad if it was just Xbox but you are also affecting the PS version aswell

I think developers need to start just taking advantage of a console and if one of them can’t do X Y and Z then f*** them…why should the others suffer. What’s MS going to do? The bigger the franchise the least chance MS are going to tell them to f*** off. Baulders Gate 3 seemed to have stood their ground and suddenly their “strict” parity rule didn’t really matter. We suddenly got super optimisation efforts for the Series S that got things sorted.

anast7h ago

I agree, and the sad part is use normal folk saw it the second they announced their plans.

Abear213h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Agree 100% this is why I didn’t want the M$ Monopoly, now PS5 version will be held back too.

If PS5 Pro comes out and Series S is still a thing it’ll be interesting what differences and what devs choose to do. Really hoping Rockstar pushes the PS5 pro with GTA6 and we get the best version possible.

outsider16241h ago

Good ole S indeed. Everyone knew this all along. S was holding games back...Now where the hell is Orchard i want a word with him.

LucasRuinedChildhood12h ago

More info from the author of the article, I think: https://www.reddit.com/r/ki...

Quote:
"1) I was told this info from the producer of the game Martin Klíma.
2) He specifically said the game will have only one mode.
3) And this mode is 4K 30 on PS5/XSX and 1440p 30 on XSS.
4) He said that the game is already running north of the 30 FPS cap so the performance should be stable on launch, much better than KCD1.
5) The limitation was XSS because of the 10GB memory. He said that's why they wanted to make the game 25% larger.
6) Speculation on my part: the output resolution is probably upscaled and the reason why there won't be a 60 FPS mode is because it'll most likely be very CPU heavy, like Dragon's Dogma 2 for example."

Doesn't seem like they're adding a 40fps mode on PS5/Series X for launch even if they can handle it.

Sgt_Slaughter7h ago

I'd much rather have 1440p/60fps or even 45fps. Having just one, even with the Series S in mind, is disappointing.

franwex6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

Remember when xbots were adamant that the series s won’t hold back the gen?

Microsoft just needs to let go of the mandatory parity. Who cares if your grandma doesn’t understand that a game cannot be played on the S. It’s not like it she can buy you a physical game for it anyway. Before buying the game put up a notice that it only works on series X. If you’re buying for a friend-allow for a refund.

Bam. Everyone is happy. Most series s owners are for casuals that want Game Pass anyway and most likely don’t purchase most games.

If the developers want it to run on S, let them figure it out.

Chocoburger31m ago

If it were Series X only then they'd only be selling to 25% of the Xbox Series userbase, and that's certainly not worth the time and effort into doing a port. Could just do PS5 & PC instead. No compromises needed.

Jin_Sakai6h ago

“During the event, the Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 producer also revealed that on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, the game will run at 4K resolution and 30 frames per second“

Another “creative decision” right? 🤦‍♂️

Thousands of games run just fine on S.

But Kingdom Come is the game that can’t. Must be one hell of a game!

franwex3h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Thousands of games run on PS4 and on Switch. If developers want them to run on those systems. Fine. Those two platforms still get new games. Sony isn’t making studios also make a ps4 pro version, or Nintendo a wiiu version. Microsoft technically is.

IHateNate2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

If games like Alan Wake 2, GTA6, COD, hellblade all run on S, no excuse for this 100x smaller and 100x worse looking game to be held back.

"Thousands of games run just fine on S.

But Kingdom Come is the game that can’t. Must be one hell of a game!"

Kingdom come 2 runs just fine alright. Its the SCOPE that they want. They had to cut it because of the stupid S series. Hellblade2 ran just fine too..but im pretty confident if it was just the X in mind, the scope of the game would have been much bigger.

So their scope is greater than that of GTA6 and warzone? Wow. Crazy
