They released a small handfull of Cross-gen titles in the past, most of which STARTED as PS2 or PS3 games on the design level.

And yes, I've spoken AT LENGTH with people who do development for a living. The lowest common denominator ALWAYS impacts software at the DESIGN level.

And I've owned literally every bit of PS hardware released in the West, fam. PS1, PS2, PSP, PS3, Vita, PS4, PSVR, PSTV, and now the PS5. I know how they've operated. This is def not "business as usual", especially when they took a game that WAS meant to be PS5 only in GT7 and changed it to PS4 as well. They're making marquis titles cross-gen after the fact now. Can you imagine if they'd told Insomniac to make Resistance: Fall of Man run on the PS2 as well? Or told Sucker Punch and Guerrilla to make Killzone Shadow Fall and inFamous: Second Son run on the PS3?

It's so refreshing to see someone else who understands how cross gen is limiting this generation. Because of it many of Sony's best developers may only release one game actually built for PS5 in this entire generation.

And the idea Sony has done this every gen is laughable. Sure they've done it with MLB: The Show, but having Horizon, God of War, and Gran Turismo as cross gen games this far after the launch of PS5 would be like if Uncharted: Drake's Fortunate had been a PS2 game as well (can't leave 155 million behind lol) or if Bloodborne had been a PS3 game (can't leave 87 million behind).

What are you going on about a) you have no idea what games we're and weren't originally ps4 games. It's pretty clear horizon was originally as was god of war. Gran turismo there is some debate there also a racing game is really easy to scale compared to other games. Covid varied god of war and horizon to release way later than they otherwise would have. Its clear to me both were due out last year but the chamges in working arrangements (working from home). Set them back quite abit plus god of war devs waiting for the voice actor to recover from surgery and be able todo mo cap stuff for cutscenes and facial animations etc also won't have helped them.

It's all about sales. The pandemic has limited the manufacturing and distribution of the ps5 hence they have to reach a wider audience who already have ps4 consoles. Do not expect this trend to end until manufacturing and distribution normalizes.

Your missing the point. You are still buying a cross gen game regardless if you're getting PS5 or PS4 version. If you really want to send a message, buy it used or buy the PS4 version and immediately upgrade to the PS5 version without even playing the PS4 copy. Bruh if I recall games in the 90s we're way more expensive than they are today. Also when you adjust for inflation the $60 we paid in the ps3/360 era is now $70 so I don't understand this issue with the price of games.

The problem is that they left it at $60 too long, so people who started playing games in like 2008 during PS3/360 think that it's written in stone somewhere that games have always cost $60 and always should cost $60. PS2 games were typically $50, then PS3 games moved up to $60. Ironically if they would have just kept stepping it up $10 a gen instead of leaving it the same for the PS4 gen, there would probably be less controversy. $70 today is worth less than $50 was in the PS2 era though, and certainly worth less than $60 was in 2006.

What's crazy is I remember here in Canada I use to see games like dark cloud on release advertised as $95 and some games at $100, after a year or 2 for the PS2 they dropped down to 50 and 60 and stabilized. Normal Install step: - insert disk/ click install or wait for install/ update patch/ play
New step: - Insert disk /click the ... (next to install) / select PS5 version, /wait for DL with patches./play
1 or 2 clicks for 10$ that's complicated.

You do know that you basically install a digital version on your HD, the source of the install for some files is on the disc instead of the net.
Meaning the native aspect of the disk is already obsolete on day 1 due to mandatory patches.

I have over 600 Steam games and when I change rigs or Windows versions I don't get steam version 1 -2 or 3 they are just a library and the same applies with my PS5 when I click library I have a complete library of all games that I own (that I can sort by platform) and my Mk11 version is listed under PS5 (even if I have a Ps4 disk).
Now I could concede your point if you're a collector and for collecting purposes you need the PS5 box but if the case then you would also buy some limited collector versions of the game (hey you're a collector yes or no?).

It does, but the PS4 version won't show up on the PS5 store. You'll have to do it via a PS4, or via your browser.

For digital versions, you'll be able to download/preload the PS5 version normally.
For disk versions, you'll have to insert your PS4 disk on day 1 and download the PS5 version.
