Blood and Truth
RE7
Astro

Troll article

Michiel1989886d ago

@bouzebal the best VR software maybe, but thats not even the point hes making. The point is that VR games are lacking behind non-VR games in terms of quality.

maybe read the article before calling it a troll article.

@Michiel1989 it is a troll article. There are over 600 PSVR a lot of those are full games maybe not 20 hours but if done right a full game can be 8 or so hours plus there are full games you can play in VR like RE7. The rumor is that Sony is done with small VR games and will be going full AAA VR with the PSVR2 yes it is a rumor but the rumors about the spec turned out 99% true.

The system isn't even out yet, they've only announced one game so far... this article is stupid. The author is assuming it won't have stellar content and it's still a minimum of months away from release. Let them at least announce what that content will be before jumping to conclusions. PSVR already has stellar content, as well... Astrobot Rescue Mission, for instance, is one of the best platformers ever released on any platform, VR or not. So, not only is the author jumping to conclusions, but those conclusions are ill informed.

lucian229887d ago

As much as I'm in defense of the vr.... The "isn't out yet" argument doesn't work well as that's been the excuse for the kinect, the original psvr, vita etc.

Can't blame people for being skeptical.

I do however have great hope for this and would love to see what will be done with the tech. I love sword fighting games and stuff like pistol whip.... I just can't deal with games that give motion sickness.

SullysCigar887d ago

This. How can PSVR2 solve the author's perceived "lack of stellar content" before it even exists?

This is flame bait, approved by the usual suspects for the sole purpose of raining on Sony's parade.

PSVR2 is highly anticipated. Get used to it!

OptimusDK886d ago

@SullysCigar - the usual suspects :D - do you think this is a XBOX fan site.
I would argue the opposite by a large margin.

Michiel1989886d ago

@Sully it cant, but so far VR games havent been as good as the creators of these VR kits would have wanted us to believe. Sure there is some really good games on VR, but its not a consistent flow of good games for VR releasing. History has show that no matter how good the hardware, without the software support its going to fail (Dreamcast, Atari Lynx, Neo Geo (color) ). Maybe fail is too big a word, but at least not being the smash hit they want it to be.

I have faith that Sony first parties will create some great VR games, but im not so sure if sony 1st parties can carry the VR2 single handedly. I do praise them for trying to push the industry forward, but i think being skeptical about it is warranted as well.

its not flame bait, the lack of a steady amount of good software has held it back. Also this article never says the PSVR2 isnt highly anticipated.

Since you say this article is bait, tell me how this author or any article for that matter can have a critical take on PSVR2 without being bait/trolling or whatever you feel like calling it today. We cant even mention any potential problems Sony might run into anymore without being haters?

fr0sty886d ago (Edited 886d ago )

@lucian, the original PSVR has plenty of stellar content... So you can't go lumping it in with Kinect, Vita (which also had stellar content, it just wasn't supported long enough), etc. It was the most successful VR headset out of all of the major players. Without it, the VR market would not have gained anywhere near as much traction as it has.

Joe913886d ago (Edited 886d ago )

@Michiel1989 "Since you say this article is bait, tell me how this author or any article for that matter can have a critical take on PSVR2 without being bait/trolling or whatever you feel like calling"
By waiting until the actual reveal to comment. The author to me is assuming that Sony has not learned from the first PSVR. This is an opinion piece so there is really no right or wrong except he is jumping to conclusions super early and they are far from facts. You may feel and he may feel that way about the PSVR lineup of games but because not everyone feels that way this is clickbait. You can have an opinion all you want that doesn't make it a fact. Based on how people feel you can say this about any system PS4, PS5, XBOX, XBSX
I feel the same way about Xbox consoles doesn't make it true.

" It can't, but so far VR games haven't been as good as the creators of these VR kits would have wanted us to believe"
again your opinion therefore not facts just because you feel this way doesn't make it true. Of all the PSVR games out there you can't say that the majority of players didn't enjoy most of them. Again you can apply this comment to any game so why even say it.

That’s not the problem with VR, it’s the tech, its too bulky and strapped to your head. It still has many of the same problems it did decades ago.

gravedigger886d ago (Edited 886d ago )

Em... I'm pretty sure GT7 will have a VR support. Also pretty sure Dirt 2 will have to ( VR support is exclusive for Oculus Quest 2 for now) . PSVR had really great games. Astro was such a gem, one of the best platformers in years. Shooters like Persistence and Doom were great. Dirt Rally was awesome. Oh, the Beat Saber. Hats off to Rigs. PSVR from technical stadpoint was great for its price and a console it was intended.

No it hasn't. But the time gets here. maybe it will have

Babadook7887d ago (Edited 887d ago )

Honestly, the writer is assuming the software output for a device that has almost none of its titles announced. Its obvious we don’t have a clue what the lineup is yet, and it could very well be that the software output is 2x or more what psvr was in its first year which would be very impressive. Sony being secretive is no evidence of anything and simply commits the argument from silence fallacy. SMH.

SullysCigar886d ago

Agreed. RE8 VR got shrugged off with "nothing to announce until SONY is ready", Half Life: Alyx is basically confirmed, Horizon has already been shown, GT7 is bound to be compatible day one, rumours abound for GTA...

All that even before the hotly anticipated sequels for established VR titles like Moss, Astro Bot, Blood and Truth, not to mention the planned focus on AAA pancake/VR hybrids Sony already mentioned.

There's nothing to suggest a lack of quality content for PSVR2. Good times ahead!

Neonridr887d ago

It's partially true, I mean we get a handful of really good VR games each year but if you look at a place like Steam for example, most of the titles that sit atop the best seller list are quite old now. Plus you have the problem of not all games being available on every platform with Sony releasing exclusive stuff, Oculus releasing exclusive stuff, etc. Lone Echo 2 is a fantastic game, but naturally not everyone is going to be able to experience it. So you have a sort of niche market and you are further dividing it up with these exclusives. Makes it even harder to grow.

darkrider887d ago

Well, but if Sony believes, then it will have good games

ApocalypseShadow887d ago (Edited 887d ago )

Just one big, lame article.

CES isn't a game show. Asking about games knowing they are not going to be divulging about until most likely after releases like Forbidden West, GOW and GT 7.

But we have clues there will be big games coming to it. Like GT 7 or GTA 5 or RE 8. Past history of getting games like Borderlands, Skyrim, Hitman collection, Iron Man, Astrobot...I don't even need to keep going. We know Sony's all in because the headset tells you. The fact that Jim Ryan stood in front of people stating that they are all in. That means games are coming. Bigger that before.

Sure there are a lot of Indy games. But there were some amazing ones. How can you as a gamer, downplay Indy games? I don't need to list them all. But to say the technology is not there yet is false. It can be pulled off. Just at what fidelity are we talking for big PS5 games? They would have to scale down from full PS5 games to work. Or change interactions.

But I'm going to tell you, an Indy game like SAIRENTO tells you almost anything a regular game can do, you can do it in VR. Sairento doesn't pull any punches when it comes to movement. Shooting, slashing, sliding, punching, stabbing, front flips, back flips, side flips, wall crawling, wall hanging, ground stomping, slow mo. With movement like that, there isn't a game you couldn't do. That's straight up Devil May Cry movement. Don't be down on Indy games. We seen that nonsense in the past.

PSVR 2 is going to show what a console can do for VR. 3D sound like Returnal, fast loading like Spider-Man, graphics like PS4 Pro or better, HDR, haptics found nowhere else, etc.

PSVR's big brother just walked into the room. You aren't RED E for em.

deleted887d ago (Edited 887d ago )

Very long, but great comment Apocalypse! Sairento needs a sequel with a fleshed out story mode, because that flipping in VR is incredible!

Blood and Truth was an absolute top notch AAA from London Studio that didn't get enough attention. I lovingly refer to it as The Getaway VR, although a more guided experience.. the acting, storytelling, action was AAA without a doubt.

We already have confirmation that London Studio is working on a AAA PSVR2 title... maybe a Blood and Truth sequel? The first leaves a huge cliffhanger, which could set up multiple sequels. Maybe a remaster of B&T1 should launch w PSVR2, to drum up more hype for a B&T2, while also making up for lower sales? Also it could improve the prior limitations of the Move controls, with the precision of the new Sense controls.

ApocalypseShadow886d ago

Yeah man! I would love a Sairento sequel. But they look like they're making something else with demons and such. I want ninjas and samurais. But who knows, maybe their next game will be great.

But they definitely nailed how movement of a VR character should be done.

Thanks for saving me the clicks. Didn't realize this was still a thing.

Devs: Here are plenty of games.

Journo: (3 years ago) VR is dead and there are no games.

Devs and players: man, these VR games are amazing! So many AAA

Journo: (2 years ago) yep, we keep telling you that VR is dead. Please parrot anything we say without doing any research yourself when arguing with VR enthusiasts.

Devs and players: another fantastic year for VR!!!

Sony: We've sold over 5 million PSVRs!

Journo: (last year) If you haven't followed our 4 years covering the demise of VR please keep following us.

Sony: Check out the PSVR2 Specs!

To date over 65 million VR headsets have been sold!

Journo: well, 4 years ago we claimed that "niche market" VR was dead and there were no games. So clearly, VR is dead and there are no games and no new devices coming out.

thorstein885d ago

Michiel1989,

This wasn't about Sony only. It's a Sony article so I made it relevant. 65 million VR headsets sold are mostly Ocululs. Why didn't you call us Oculus fanboys?

Meta Is Doing With VR What Apple And Sony Have Struggled To Do

Shaz from GL: "Where Sony is ramping down support for PSVR2, and Apple are reconsidering their future with the Vision Pro, Meta and the Quest 3 continue to shine."

ApocalypseShadow7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

I'll admit that Facebook is doing more for VR than others. But they also have blown over 50 billion dollars so far and growing in R&D, building the meta verse, buying up exclusives and underpricing their products below build price, to kill competition in the stand alone space. Sony and Valve aren't willing to go into the red at an unheard level to capture the market. We know Sony could build a stand alone device that beats Quest just by the features in PS VR 2 and the new stand alone headset they built. But the new Sony would rather build a device they can profit from day one.

But, Sony so far has profited on hardware and on software. They just don't seem willing to spend the money on marketing, selling under build price or spending millions on making in-house VR exclusives for PS VR 2. Which sucks big time. They're just letting 3rd parties and indies run the show.

Article also doesn't mention that Apple's headset is more a developers product than a mass market item. To say they are looking into making a cheaper one for the next iteration is speaking the obvious. Duh. That was always the case. Build something the public sees as quality not can't afford, then make another that the masses can afford. TVs, cars, cellphones etc all were once expensive. Now, they're cheap to buy with many options to choose from. And Apple isn't even selling VP as a VR headset. I'm well aware that Apple's true intentions is to build a device that pushes AR with VR as an option. Not build a VR device. Because they know eventually that they want to replace the cellphone with AR glasses or an AR headset. If they cared about games, they would have launched as a gaming device.

Lastly, Facebook launched Quest 3 last year. But has not mentioned how many they sold up to this point. Why is that? Besides Quest 2 selling more by being cheap, the market can't move forward until they start selling more Quest 3 headsets than 2. Maybe the new exclusive Batman and Hitman games will help. But we'll see.

Abnor_Mal6d ago

Not dead, but definitely on life support from the third party devs and PC crowd who may just purchase the headset.

Although I saw someone say that the module adapter will no allow haptics and adaptive triggers to work, but I don’t know if any of that is true.

Babadook76d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Nope. Not yet.

It’s tough to say what its future will bring. There is still decent support. It seems to have sold decently too. Sony seems absent in a direct way though.

Jingsing5d ago

The issues Meta have is they are Meta. I'll never buy a Meta product, Every Quest headset they release is always a case of it's not quite there from a hardware perspective and the game content is mostly from indie devs. Selling what should be a AAA experience with C tier games is a non starter.

helicoptergirl7d ago

Meta is also Billions and billions in the hole in regards to VR. If Sony were to do what Meta has done, they'd be bankrupt

ChasterMies6d ago

Meta is losing billions on a business that theh will probably walk away from like they did the Facebook phone. Temper your expectations of your investments in Meta’s hardware.

franwex6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

I do wish Sony would release more for PSVR. It’s a neat product, but they don’t support it much. It may have the same fate as the Vita.

I know it’s two completely separate products as Vita was stand alone, and PSVR is a companion to PS consoles. More 1st party support would really boost it though.

InUrFoxHole6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

They are done supporting it. They're relying on pc to do it for them. Sony even paused production because it's not selling

Abnor_Mal6d ago

They paused production to get rid of inventory, doesn’t mean the headset isn’t selling, it’s just not selling as fast as Sony thought it would. But with their half assed approach to the headset and lack of first party games, it’s not surprising, saddening, but not surprising.

Meta out here buying up all the exclusives, this is the only part of the gaming market where I feel exclusives should not be a thing since the market is “still in its infancy”.

InUrFoxHole6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

That's exactly what it means... you think people are buying a headset with min support for the price of the console? It's done man. Sadly because like the vita the tech is good and deserved better

Chocoburger6d ago

I own PS VR 1, and it is packed with tons of games to pick from in nearly every genre you could think of. While the technology may be rudimentary compared to newer headsets, it still works, and is fun to play, which is what matters most.

Its a shame that PS VR 2 is having such a slow start, because the tech behind it is brilliant. Its currently on sale for $100 USD off, that needs to be a permanent price drop.

We need more first party games on PS VR 2, the fact that Jim Ryan shut down Sony London Studios right before he left was moronic, they should have been upgrading their hit game Blood & Truth for PS VR 2! What a stupid decision.
