I've said this again and again. Single Player gaming is done by the majority of gamers on PlayStation. Most Sony in-house games are single player. Most gamers don't subscribe to PS Plus on PlayStation. Other companies wish this wasn't so so that they can sell you the rest of the game and monetize you. Skins and equipment that take up no space on a Blu-ray disc or digital. Drip feeding content through artificial grinding and fetch quests and through competition.

Sony is just giving the majority of gamers( single player gamers) what they want. More single player games. I think what most of these companies don't get is that the PlayStation base is skewed towards older gamers that have less time in keeping up with matches online. Gamers who grew up on single player games like Ninja Gaiden, Mega Man, Castlevania, Super Mario Bros, etc. And multiplayer in some games besides sports. But those games had cooperative modes where you played together on the couch like Double Dragon, Contra, Turtles, Final Fight, Streets of Rage, etc. Online games are pushed as competitive games like sports. And time consuming gameplay. Instead of playing together, it's playing against each other. A lot of gamers don't care for that. They play just as well as anyone else. But have nothing to prove. They just want to enjoy playing. If more online games pushed cooperative play like couch gaming back in the day, you might see more gamers online. Competition is fine. But it doesn't have to be almost all the time.

Sony is just feeding what sells for them. And It's working. Because I want more of it. And they said they want to make more of it. That's a win win.

A very well constructed post.

Nothing but the truth across the board there.

bouzebbal1272d ago (Edited 1272d ago )

For those who talk about Sony=single player games.. It's true and SP is a major part of it.. But they delivered groundbreaking multiplayer experiences we all want to see again.
Warhawk, MAG, Modnation Racers.. Games with massive communities back in the days

NeoGamer2321272d ago

@bouzebbal
Sony has pretty much abandoned "ground" breaking MP. I am fine with that. MP is done well in mostly 3rd party games. I do agree they did a bunch of really good stuff as you list in PS3 era.

And we can't forget Socom!

Weapon_of_choice1272d ago (Edited 1272d ago )

Speak for yourself flyboy, I enjoy multi player and I'm very happy with PSNplus, so are millions more, actually you're the 1% that doesn't have psn-plus.

Btw besides being full of assumptions your post is insanely long and boring, borderline dumb, but mostly to long. But good effort.

RpgSama1273d ago (Edited 1273d ago )

I agree with you in everything except that they don't subscribe to PlayStation Plus, as of May of 2020 the service had over 41.5 million subscribers, nowhere close to the 115+ million PlayStation 4, but certainly a significant amount.

ApocalypseShadow1270d ago (Edited 1270d ago )

74 million offline would be the majority. That's a 30 million gap. When I had Plus years ago. It was for discounts. Sony now has sales all the time that Plus became unnecessary. How many more gamers are just paying for discounts or free games every month?

I'm not discounting the multiplayer. But Sony themselves see that most gamers are not online today.

Gamers speak of Sony's multiplayer games of the past. And they were good. But where are they today? They didn't last. But Sony's single player games have sold like gangbusters. More than GT. And I love GT. That's Sony's biggest selling franchise. But it had sold less than the other games that are single player without posting that long list.

neutralgamer19921272d ago

Single player games have less competition and sony makes some of the best ones. Yet every publisher is trying to make the next big MP game so they can turn that into GAAS and generate micro transactions

This way sony gives it's fans the story driven games they want and their fans get the MP from 3rd parties and sony doesn't have to compete with 3rd parties in that sense. But I still miss killzone 2 warzone and resistance 8 player co along with mag and starhawk/warhawk

Rumor has it sony will announce silent hills reboot by kojima himself at VGA. And they are working on a remake for MGS1 by bluepoint which is in development. I think sony this generation will just go all out more than before because they see an opportunity to turn this into a 2 console market once again. If and it's not a big if ms fails once again they may just focus on software and leave the hardware to nintendo and sony like sega had to do.

FF7 REMAKE TE
FF16 TE
SILENT HILLS EXCLUSIVE
MGS EXCLUSIVE
DEATH LOOP TE

They are going for either timed exclusives or completely publishing. SH and MGS would be published by sony so it would have no chance of coming to any other platforms

Sitdown1272d ago

" I think sony this generation will just go all out more than before because they see an opportunity to turn this into a 2 console market once again."

Clearly you are missing context here, with the biggest being that gaming is big enough to support more than 2 consoles. You really think at a meeting Sony members said, hey let's do a lot better this time around guys, with a strong push we can make this a 2 console market.

And noticed that you said, "like Sega had to do". Go back and study why Sega had to, Microsoft is no way in a similar position.

Einhander19711272d ago

Couldn't agree more, I grew up on Atari, ZX Spectrum, Amiga, Megadrive, Snes. I prefer single player games, I really don't have the time or inclination to play online. I like to sit down immerse myself in a great single player experience. Sony are aware the age demographic is quite vast on playstation, and try to cater for them all.

metalhead1272d ago

This here is legit. Except I subscribe to ps plus for free single player games each month haha.

But yeah SP games are why I’ve been on PlayStation since I was 8 and I’m 30 now. Started at the end of ps1 and never looked back

Kavorklestein1272d ago

Tons of people actually DO subscribe to PS+ for free games and ability to play online. But that is obvious.

ApocalypseShadow1270d ago (Edited 1270d ago )

74 million do not. I did for discounts. Now Sony has sales all the time where I didn't need Plus. How many other gamers were like me that were only paying for the free games and discounts and didn't care for multiplayer?

74 million would be the majority no? Name all Sony's single player AAA games this gen/last gen? Now name all their in-house AAA multiplayer? Seems to be lopsided towards single player. And Sony themselves see through the data that more are not online. That's not my facts. That's Sony's.

Kavorklestein1270d ago

True. They dont really make Multipalyer hits these days. Some games may have a good MP mode or two but not the focus.

Maybe but I hope not. In theory I'm OK with the idea of jumping to objectives, but they should deactivate trophies/achievements. Maybe have another type for when you get it that way? Call it "Millennial Trophy." We're going to give you something because you feel entitled, but we both know you didn't earn it.

Profchaos1273d ago (Edited 1273d ago )

I've used the activity cards in astrobot and it's not like it warps you to the objective it takes you to the start of the level and their you Hey go find this.

In Spider-Man miles Morales it basically does nothing it might at best take you to a quick travel pointusing help and tips however different story.

DragonWarrior191273d ago

We still slapping Millennial in front of everything as an insult despite the fact that millennials aren't your target generation? Didn't realize it was still 2013.

TheGreatGazoo301272d ago

@DragonWarrior19

Playing off that stereotype was meant that as a joke, sorry it didn't come through that way. I really don't care how people play their games, whatever let's someone enjoy the game more for themselves is all that matters.

SullysCigar1272d ago

As far as I've seen this is a feature that saves time, but doesn't reduce effort of skill required to obtain a trophy.

People value their time. This is a quality of life improvement, it's not spoon feeding us, it's just helping us to get more out of our precious gaming time - and I'm all for it!

@ Apocalypse...... Well clearly Nintendo bread and butter is also in single player and Nintendo more than anyone has relied on single player games. They didn't even have a true online till the switch and even thats half baked. Nintendo relies on single player more than Sony. Were I think Sony has excelled is in the different varieties of single player and the more mature nature of them. MS has alot to prove, but with their new studios, hopefully see a return to form.

Livingthedream1273d ago

I've heard great things about the dual sense control, and the 3d audio. Too bad I probably won't be able to get my hands on a ps5 until people stop paying scalpers lol

Abnor_Mal1273d ago

Apparently DuelSense is causing developers to go back and patch in adaptive feedback on Xbox Series X enhanced Xbox One games.

S2Killinit1273d ago

Not the same thing but I guess thats better than nothing.

SullysCigar1272d ago

Xbox doesn't have adaptive feedback, but if they finally start to use the rumble in the triggers after a whole generation of not bothering (barring Forza), that's better than a kick in the teeth!

I still think MS will copy the DualSense features in a couple of years for a new 'elite' controller and charge $100-150 lol

Abnor_Mal1272d ago

@S2Killinit & SullysCigar

My mistake, I realized I was wrong with the name of the Xbox triggers but was busy and ran out of editing time.

JackBNimble1272d ago

Because you can't play multiplayer games with a dualsense ?

Take-Two Is Quietly Killing Private Division

In recent weeks, reports have surfaced that Take-Two is shuttering Kerbal Space Program 2 developer Intercept Games and OlliOlli World developer Roll7. Now, IGN has learned that not only are these closures imminent, but they are a part of a larger move by Take-Two to either sell off or shut down the entirety of its indie label, Private Division.

Inverno3h ago

Jesus. The AAA space is gonna implode on itself. We went from "indie is the future" to shutting down devs who make smaller budget games to make way for games that take 7 years to develop and blow through half a billion bucks with almost nothing to show for it.

badboyz092h ago

You guys act all upset but don't buy the games. I bet none of you bought RollerDROME!
