Digital Foundry - We're finally getting to see more of the launch wave of PlayStation 5 titles, with Insomniac revealing a first look at hardware accelerated ray tracing effects in Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. A huge improvement is clearly evident in reflections from the tallest skyscraper to the smallest puddle, but bafflingly, the reveal was met with some vitriol on social media. Artefacts and compromises were highlighted, with some even suggesting that we weren't seeing ray tracing at all. The reality is clear though: hardware RT is an emerging feature on brand new consoles developers are just getting to know, it's computationally expensive so compromises are inevitable - and what we're seeing here is very impressive stacked up against similar hybrid RT implementations seen in the PC space.
Seize Flameheart's powerful flagship and become the boss fight with an all-new type of World Event arriving in Sea of Thieves Season 13!
Max Caulfield returns in Life is Strange: Double Exposure, an all-new supernatural murder mystery in the award-winning Life is Strange series.
holy shit, i didnt expect to see Max again.
so ... i wonder what ending is canon then.
One of the best announcements in the show (personal opinion as I am fan of all life is strange games).
Here's hoping they dont mess this up (Deck Nine played it too safe in Life is Strange True Colors)
Lead the Expedition on a desperate adventure to destroy the Paintress before she erases the last survivors of humanity in the stunning new RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The debut title from Sandfall Interactive comes to Xbox Series X|S in 2025.
That UIX is beautiful. Makes it a part of the game. Best thing out of this weekend so far, IMHO.
Who said it wasn’t real ray tracing?
A foolish fanboy online?
"From what we can tell from the released footage, the 60fps performance mode sticks with the screen-space reflections seen in Spider-Man on PS4 - the key limitation being that only detail in the camera view can be reflected, leading to many visual discontinuities."
I'm assuming the final version will have RT along with 60fps in the performance mode at 1440p. The Demon Souls' footage we saw ran at 60fps and had ray-tracing in it.... that game is much more graphically intensive than Spiderman. I don't see a reason why we can't have RT and 60fps at the same time. If Bluepoint can do it, Insomniac should be able to.
Looks great!
The implementation isn't the best, but its also a launch title. I was blown away by Spiderman on PS4 Pro and I have no doubt Insomniac's engineers will continue to improve RT effects as the generation continues
Those missing leaves, kills it for me
