On this week's episode of IGN's PlayStation show, Podcast Beyond!, host Jonathon Dornbush is joined by Brian Altano, Max Scoville, and Janet Garcia to discuss the latest PS5 news, including a bunch of info about PS5 game preorder bonuses for Demon's Souls, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and more, plus the confusing state of transferring saves from PS4 to PS5.
A total of 60 concept pieces for the canceled multiplayer Spider-Man title have surfaced as part of the recent Insomniac Games leak.
Yea i can definitely see this being scrapped and instead be used for that Spider verse game. Will interesting to see how they could tackle so many Spider people at once.
PushSquare: "We've always known PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium will have rotating catalogues with titles added and removed monthly, but it's unlikely anyone expected 32 games to be taken away all at once."
Surprised that any 1st-party title would be removed after being added. I think a good number of those have been there since day 1 of the updated service, so I guess many had similar service length deals?
As far as the games in total it is just telling us that those games had ab1 year License agreement.
As far as Spider-Man remember this is also Licensed from Disney. We aren't privy to the contracts at all. So we don't have the full picture. This is an inherent flaw to subscription services.
Well spider man is first party developed but licensed IP. Probably a Marvel request or part of the deal.
Kinda like MLB making Sony do a switch and xbox version of the show.
I would assume its because we'll see spiderman 2 gameplay soon, and they'll take it off until a couple months after the sequel releases.
maybe with hopes people will pay to play the first one if they haven't already
What Crazy says.
A smart business move.
There's opportunity for anyone buying intothe Playstation ecosystem for the dirst time.
That makes no sense. You'd want it out there to be played so people would be more inclined to buy the sequel. Same way most older games in a series go on sale before the release of the latest in the series is released.
Yeah I was surprised to see that as well. I feel like they have to do what it takes to make it profitable and avoid the race to the bottom that is GamePass. All they're getting is $40 a year for the "rental" part of the service, and I bet they're losing more than that from each of those customers in direct sales. I'd rather a mediocre Extra service than putting everything on Extra and spending less money on making the games great.
@MrMilchick except for ykbow quantum break and the older forza horizon titles that got removed....
I'm going to over simplify this just to make the point but here goes The logic is that in total Sony/MS needs you to give them money to fund making games. The more money they have from you, the bigger/better they can make those games. If they don't get a lot of money, they're not going to be able to make good games.
A good game costs $70. If you buy three good games a year from them you might spend $210. Let's say everyone has the basic online package. So you upgrade to Extra for $40/year. Let's say Extra is awesome...do you really need to buy 3 games at full price anymore, or will spend your time playing things that are "free" to you? Let's say you only buy 1 game instead of three. Now they've only gotten $110 from you instead of $210 and we haven't even accounted for how much money they had to spend to bring those hundreds of games to the service. So the "race to the bottom" is PS+ and GP trying to outdo each other in subscribers while making less and less money. Eventually the games will get worse because they will have less money to make them.
Phew, that was long
"Yeah I was surprised to see that as well. I feel like they have to do what it takes to make it profitable and avoid the race to the bottom that is GamePass."
Lol. Sony is just a bunch of greedy f$%@! Spider Man sold about over 33 million copies and they still feel the need to use it to squeeze and niquel dime Playstation gamers even with Spider Man 2 around the corner.
Sony won´t allow day one first party games on PS Plus and apparently even older first party games won´t stay in the service.
And they expect PS Plus to compete with Gamepass with this strategy? Well, good luck for them. I guess it´s easy to understand why Gamepass is the best gaming service in the world. And will only gets stronger as competition is nearly non existent.
Has this many games ever been taken off the service at once before aside from when PS Now got retooled
This is by far the biggest list of games taken off in a month, previously it's only been a handful. For myself specifically there's a couple games from my backlog coming off, but nothing huge, and most of the games can be grabbed for a couple bucks on sale, so wont matter toooo much for me. It does suck to see them go though.
It's better too just get essential and buy extra or premium as and when required.
I don't know why gamers can't fathom that lol.
I've had extra twice and premium once since the start, essential for the rest of the time.
"Last day of June" is wonderful game
Hahaaha..thats what i did and i got it for a 50% discount too during Christmas time. Im still on essential right now. Once Kena drops ill upgrade to extra for lesser price too.
I don't much care for the older titles so Premium isn't worth the $20/year upcharge for me. And I'm not streaming games.
But the $40 /year to get all the games in Extra is kinda a great deal for what you get so far imo.
I don't even pay for their online service anymore... Why? Steam is free.... Best online value in gaming.
You can save up to 100 GB of PS4 saved data and 100 GB of PS5 saved data. The number of PS4 saved data files you can store is limited to 1000. (does steam offer that too?) /s
I mean fwiw, your $60/year also gives you some decent games each month, which Steam doesn't. On PC you have Epic free games but they're rarely any good.
Still, you get online for free, so yeah it's a good value.
For me this is one of the reasons I don't pay for a subscription service like PS Plus or Netflix. You never own anything, you cannot play or watch at your own pace because at anytime games or movies can be removed.
Why anyone paid for it up front and didn't see how the games pans out blows my mind.
This is why I’m always physical over a service especially for those big titles. Does downloading them save you from not being able to play them?
I dont find any issue with gamepass game is out download it if i like it i finish it in 2 to 3 month (i usually play 5 games in same timeperiod 1 of each genres) while it will be in the store at least for a year
Orchard the difference between the services is the sheer number of quality AAA games versus filler/ slash decades old games on the other.
@hof
The AAA games that come to the service are games that can be had for dirt cheap, used, by the time they put it on Playstation Plus.
The only time Sony ever surprised me there was with Last of Us 2, and that's really only because Last of Us 2 sales dropped off a cliff fairly quickly at the time (not saying it didn't sell well, but sales stagnated quicker than usual), and they were really trying to boost the low sub base for PS Now.
And there is loads of filler on Playstation Plus. Let's not kid ourselves. Even when I was one of just a handful of people who actually had PS Now as well as PlayStation Plus, I was never all that impressed with what they offered.
They've gotten better now that they're trying to compete more with Gamepass, but the service has a long way to go.
@madlad
True comparing ps plus premium 19$ with gamepass 7$ is won by miles by gamepass, the only poeple to think ps plus premuim have a great value is new players in the platfrom, if i didnt already finish PS exclsuives i would've bought 2 month of sub and finish the games i want in long play setions
I still don't see this $19 PS and $7 Gamepass. You're comparing the highest tier of PS membership so use the highest tier of Xbox too not the lowest which is $15 a month. And no one's buying premium monthly. Its $120 a year and that's without discounts which MS don't offer. So that becomes $80-90 as they're offered frequently through the year. So your $19 PS vs $7 XB just became $7 PS vs $15 XB
@onisama

Pls eNglish m0re okie-ay yeeahs? /s
PS+ Premium (PS+P) is only $17.99 USD/mo (regular price) Game Pass for Consoles and Game Pass for PC is $9.99/mo (regular price).
Game Pass: 9.99*12=119.88
PS+P /mo price: 17.99*12=215.88
PS+P 3mo price: 49.99*4=199.96
PS+P /yr price: $119.99 USD!
Oh would you look at that... PS+ Premium costs $119.99 for a whole year same as Game Pass does!
Guess what? Game Pass Ultimate is $14.99/mo
14.99*12=179.88
179.88>119.99 which means PS+ Premium is cheaper! And PS+ Premium has over 800 right now games while Game Pass Ultimate has 437 and to get access to all of those you need an Xbox Series console because PC has 11 less games to choose from while game streamers have access to only 337 of those... yikes!
You can stream all your games from PS to a phone or PC though even if you're not near your system and you can use a DS4 or DualSense controller on mobile and PC via the Remote Play app for Android, iOS, OSx and Windows.
So not only does PS+ Premium cost less than Ultimate it costs just as much as Game Pass for Console and still offers more games.
Depends on what type of gamer you are. If you want a collection physical is better, but some people just want to play and beat it and move on, and don't care to collect.
That's a bunch of bs. I use essentials though. The 2-3 games a month are enough.
The great thing about gaming is there's always an option to buy the options that you want to play. I don't get the complaints when every game is available on the store for purchase. Try the ones leaving then purchase the ones you really like. Problem solved. The service is really just a compliment added to what you already own making any complaining unnecessary. If you're using the service as a supplemental option then why be surprised when games leave the service? This was a known factor before even subscribing, right? Of the 32 games leaving, which ones were you actually playing? How long do they have to remain available for everyone to be satisfied? That whole list has been available to play for quite some time so if you didn't get your fill of them that's not Sony's fault.
Hell, better yet, just spend your time playing the games only available on the service. It makes little sense to complain, especially for all of you only advocating for the essential service. This doesn't even affect you so why say anything?
It even makes sense to remove the PS Collection since that was designed to reward early adoptors. It's almost been 3 years and there are plenty of games to purchase at this point.
- Sony rep
Who are you to tell ppl that they should have finished so n so game already n not to complain 33 games?!? They better be cutting you a check
I am an individual that spends little to no time complaining... You're absolutely right though, if they didn't make time to play then they just missed out. Isn't that how Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, etc. all work? No complaints necessary, just acceptance.
Exactly, 100%!
The PS+ Collection is free to early adopters & PS kept it around until 6 months after the PS5 system drought finally ended 2½ years after PS5 actually launched with nearly 30 million PS5s out there today there's no reason people should be whinging about the PS+ Collection disappearing.
As far as the 32 games leaving, they're being replaced with 16 new arrivals.
1 Kena: The Bridge of Spirits
2 Doom Eternal
3 Riders Republic
4 Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus
5 Slay the Spire
6 Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom
7 The Evil Within
8 Wolfenstein: The Old Blood
9 Bassmaster Fishing
10 Paradise Killer
11 Sackboy: A Big Adventure
12 Doom
13 Doom 2
14 Doom 64
15 Doom 3
16 Dishonored: Definitive Edition
And who knows what classics might come to Premium in addition to those?
PS+ Premium has well over 800 games in their current lineup including Streaming PS3 games and PS1/2 Classics remade as native apps for PS4/5.
Xbox Game Pass on Consoles has 437 games, on PC GP has only 426 of those and via Streaming you only have access to 337 of the original 437.
Game Pass Ultimate ($180/yr) costs $60 more a year than PS+ Premium ($120/yr), but has just around half the total number of games (GP's 437 vs PS+'s 834).
Yet the pretenders are worried about 32 games leaving out of 834 with at least 16 confirmed to fill that void while Xbox GP loses 7 with only 5 filling in out of a total of 437 total games across the entire service?
These people are clearly unable to think critically.
Critical thinking does seem to be a lost art these days. It's all thoughts, feelings, and beliefs now, all of which are the cause of most contention.
Damn.
That's a lot of good ones swept off in one go. Guess it depends on what's coming to to take their place.
Still; Spiderman, Red Faction, Pathfinder, Metro, Kingdom Come, Resident Evil ...
Tbh most of these games are bad except Spider man and Metro... and we bought those so...
I'm not interested in subscription model at all.
Question. Is the game completely off the server? Or is it there but no longer accessible. So let's say I buy a game and now its no longer available. I've Uninstalled the game but now I want to put it back am I
Screwed or its still available to me since I bought it before this happened.
@everton. Cool. I ask because I've had movies I bought disappear after deleting them.
And they are no longer on the server.
Marvel's Spider-Man is not being de-listed its just leaving PS+ Extra and Premium. If you purchased the game at retail or digitally you can still reinstall or redownload it and play it.
i guess many of those had similar dealing lenghts?
but its definitely surprising that even the 1st party games are being yeeted
No... Plus has been out about a year and a few games have gone each month. PS Now has been out for about 7 or 8 years (which is what Plus used to be). So I wouldn't say it's too 'early', they are just starting to do bigger rotations as they have around 800 games in the service, I doubt they want over 1000 in there
I don't get the outrage regarding certain titles (like Spider-Man) - it's been in this service for a year and out to buy for about 2 or 3 years - if you wanted to play it, you've had plenty of time. It's not even like you had to get a PS5 to play it.
The majority of those moaning have no interest in playing it, as they don't own a PS, or they've already played it so it doesn't actually affect them.
This month does have a lot of games rotating, but I imagine it's to keep the number of games around 800/900. I also imagine Sony will finally put SM remastered on the store so everyone can buy it, then put that in Plus next month - we've had a few games get replaced with their upgraded versions in Plus and Now
The problem I have with ps plus and Gamepass is they are filled with games I’ve purchased over the last 15 years and when most games hit I either own them on one platform or another. They really don’t make me gush like others do.
Every game leaving of value I already own, and most times games added to the service I’ve gotten from humble bundle or super cheap. I’ve really saved money in circumstances of all the kids games loaded on them that my sons go crazy on.
Goat simulator 3, TABs, Ben 10, Lego games etc.
I also think eventually they need to put first party stuff on ps plus day one if they want the service to be comparable to game pass. I’m really confused also as to why they don’t add more ps one classics and ps2. Seems like a missed opportunity. I guess when you’re the industry leader you don’t need fan service.
Not first party titles and not that many you dosser. They've also gotten rid of the PS plus collection too.
Don't be scared to call out your fave company little boy.
Why does everyone resort to passive aggressive comments and namecalling?
The fact of the matter is that both GP and PS subscription models operate on a rotational basis with titles leaving and others coming to their respective services.
Whilst GP does retain first party titles (so far) the service offered on PS with more classics is equal. Both have their pros and cons.
But let’s not kid ourselves here, if this was an article about a first party title leaving GP, just one, you & I both know the comment section will be filled with sarcastic jabs and pitchfork wielding Sony fanboys acting as if they care about gaming overall when all they want to do is argue with someone online.
These subscription services can be beneficial, but titles leaving is just part and parcel of it. It happens, it’s going to continue to happen for both GP and PS.
Let's be real, does MS have enough exclusives to even be able to rotate any out? It's just crazy that so many people are speaking on a topic that can be rectified by purchasing the games. I've not bumped into a service yet that doesn't rotate content out, it's only wrong for Sony.
@Surgical,
It’s not crazy at all.
Buying the games to “rectify” the problem ignores the point of paying for the subscription; however, nowhere does it guarantee that titles will remain indefinitely, so anyone complaining about either point are raising a non argument imo.
You also know, as my comment stated above, that if this was Microsoft losing a title from GP, this site and the usual suspects would be all over that in the comments. This is not to defend Microsoft, but simply to actually acknowledge that there isn’t a bias here. If it happened with MS, they’d be under scrutiny too.
Again, I don’t think the scrutiny is justified as it is a subscription based service with titles rotating out. It doesn’t always need to come down to Sony Vs Microsoft like so many people on this site seem to gravitate towards. Both services have their pros and cons.
Regarding your comment about Microsoft Exclusives on GP:
-Valheim
-Sea of Thieves
-Forza Horizon 4&5
-Immortality
-Microsoft Flight Simulator
-Rare Replay
-As Dusk Falls
-Gears 1/4/5
-Quantum Break
-State of Decay 2
-High on Life
-Hi-Fi Rush
-Pentiment
-Ryse
-Sunset Overdrive
-Fable 2/3
-Halo MCC/5/Infinite
-Vampire Survivors
-Gears Tactics
-Killer Instinct
-Battletoads
-Forza Motorsport 7
-Grounded
Just to name a few.
So yes, MS does have enough exclusives to rotate in and out of the GP service.
@StarkR3ality
"Not first party titles and not that many you dosser."
Uh... FH3 and FH4, FM6 and 7 and likely numerous others... of course the ones I listed were basically the only ones I ever cared about and they all disappeared. So... you are wrong.
Yikes about spiderman… good news is that its not super expensive to buy it these days
Right and I'm sure that absolutely has nothing to do with 32 out of 800 games rotating out. Stop the cap.
I'm old enough to remember the uproar when Quantum Break was being removed from GP for what turned out to be licencing reasons. All the people up in arms about that seem to be ok with this 🤷
What kind of licensing issues would exist for a game MS made and owns the rights to?
So I think the uproar actually makes sense there and it might have surrounded the fact that MS was clearly lying their arses off!
Meanwhile PS made zero commitment to keep the modern games in the catalog on Extra or Premium forever regardless who owns the right. The reason for that is clear. Eventually literally every game would be free on PS+ X/P which would lose the company money.
Imagine this: "I'll buy PS5 at a huge discount near the end of the gen to buy PS+ Extra and get basically every single PS exclusive for just $100." Now that's a deal for the consumer, but not for PS.
The new patch v1.817.1.0 for Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered fixes some of the most annoying and common ray-tracing and crash issues.
This is another one of those "PS5 can only have fake 4k, PS5 only have 100 BC, PS5 will explode from overheat" so much FUD.
I couldn't sit through enough of this to get to the part about save files. Is it that there's no info on PS4 -> PS5 games using the same save files or something? I mean, if it supports BC, it's going to support the old save files. That sounds like a given. I don't know what the confusion would be here.
It's not confusing whatsoever
Everything seems to be confusing to these poor journalists these days, how strange.
