The Verge got to try the latest version of Stadia at E3 at the YouTube Gaming space in downtown Los Angeles.
Shahmeer from eXputer: "The new Xbox strategy to go multi-platform could eventually change console gaming as we know it, and I am concerned."
Can we stop pretending that Xbox has any great influence over the console market?
All they can do is try and steer their own Destiny. They have very little to do with what the other players in the console market are doing.
And yes, going 3rd party is pretty much their only option and is good for them.
Still whatever little direct competition they're offering against Sony ... that'd be gone, which is never good for consumers.
I know Sony will continue to apease the gamers but without any proper competition in same space, they might not work at the fullest efficiency.
(Taking into account, thats generally been agreed here, that Nintendo has long been not the direct competitor to either MS or Sony)
The " without any proper competition in same space, they (Sony) might not work at the fullest efficiency" narrative has been proven false for years. Let's stop pretending that, in terms of games, Xbox has been any competition to Playstation.
Sony had 0 competition for most of its playstation business, and they still succeeded, the only thing xbox introduced was paid online and dlc
Sony had little to no competition during the PS2 era and they have an iconic catalog.
I don't think Sony needs competition in the console space to still release great games. It would be the games that would be competing against each other.
Xbox does not need to exist for PlayStation to have competition.
They compete with Nintendo, PC, streaming and countless other devices.
Yes release games on other platforms
Your own gamers still get the games day one on GP. So GP will grow and stay stabilize
By releasing the games on PC,PlayStation and next switch they can get $70 for their games.
MS didn't invest 100 billion for nothing. This way Xbox generates way more revenue
I mean, yes, it was an Activision, Blizzard, Bethesda presentation, they just so happened to buy all of those publishers, nothing we would not have seen on any other award show if they had not bought developers that were and STILL are developing multiplatform games.
If you remove them you are left with Microsoft game studios, another Fable, Another Gears, Perfect Dark which for me didn't look all that great, Avowed, Age of mythology and south of midnight (might be missing something I guess)
No better than any other show. There weren't any major new announcements, which is what everyone has been complaining about. The bar shouldn't get lowered for a trillion dollar company.
"another Fable, another Gears, Perfect Dark"?
That's a lot of pretty great "anothers".
I could use a few of those "anothers" from Sony right now.
Yes it was a really great showcase that Xbox had. Multiplats and all. Overall it was really cool
anast,
"All these games are coming to PS5."
Very disingenuous statement... Some, but not all.
Oh, so that is the new narrative, "sub-show for Sony." lol, wow.
The sad part is that you are clearly and fully aware that it is very unlikely for any 1hr and 30min gaming presentation show to showcase ALL Exclusives, it just doesn't happen.
And don't you think it sad that MS had a better Sony showing than Sony? If I were you, I wouldn't consider that a flex, lol.?
They are coming to PS5, the ones that matter of course.
There is nothing sad here. You might need to start your argument without an emotive.
I don't think they had a better showing. Unless we lower the bar for only Xbox.
None of us really know how much they're going third party. They're still ACTING like they want to protect the platform - no mention of PS5 in their show, still marketing the console, still using the Xbox logo.
Yeah Phil acknowledged more is coming to PS5. But is that Indiana Jones? Perfect Dark? Gears?
If they keep those key properties in their stable it's not accurate to label them as simply 3rd party.
They may very well still be in the game after all...
@Coconut
Sony did the same in their last. They showed games that were already announced.
We need to stop pretending like Xbox matters and has any influence in the industry.
By entering the industry, Microsoft made it worst, everything bad in the industry can be tied to them (like paid online and DLCs). The industry would be better off if they had never been in it.
Before you say Sony would have no competition, they would still have PC and Nintendo. As they are right now, Microsoft are not competition, they don't actually matter.
I think you're mostly right. They've been failing on console and will most likely drop out.
But the concern a lot of us had was that they would use their $ to win monopolistically. They've already bought a huge number of big studios. Going multi-platform would alleviate that concern.
But they could still turn the screws, this game isn't over quite yet... They're sending mixed signals.
I think in Xbox’s direness it is, but let’s not pretend like they don’t understand the value of exclusiveness to their platform. Not every damn Xbox game is coming to PS5 and the stuff that has hit have either been GaaS games or games that didn’t exactly sell gamgbusters and are extremely niche.
When Halo, Gears, Forza, Perfect Dark, Fable, etc. start coming to PS5 then that’s pretty massive and also diminishes any reason to own an Xbox.
Doom isn't niche. It was heavily implied that all Bethesda games, outside of games with contractual agreements and the existing multiplayer games, would all be exclusive to Xbox.
Ok, sorry, Doom is the exception.
My point is Xbox is still keeping exclusives for their bigger games. What’s been released are GaaS: Sea of Thieves, Grounded aka Honey I Shrunk the Kids, and then niche stuff like Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush. Then you got Doom coming out, which is an outlier, I suppose.
It's not niche but it's not everything.
MS has got a HUGE cache of IP and studios now
It's the only decision. Hardware sales are on a sharp decline and Game Pass growth has stagnated.
If Xbox leaves the console market, I'm just a little worried who is going to replace them and are they going to make it worse and be more scummy/greedy. I don't want any Amazon, Apple, or Google game console.
That's what I also wonder, I can't imagine anyone that I would like to replace them at this point, we could just be stuck with Playstation and Nintendo, maybe that's the best possible scenario.
No other company has the money or desire to enter the main console market. At best companies can put out an Android box, but no one else out there can compete with the big 3.
If MS exits console gaming no one else is going to spend the billions to fill in that gap. You'll need masterpiece first party exclusives to get people to pay attention to your box, who could offer that? Also even if they were successful, they'd be running at a loss for a decade or more until they gain enough marketshare. No company is willing to do that outside of MS.
Seeing XB has been in last place all 4 generations it may be wise for MS to become a 3rd party publisher & game developer. With all those interesting XB exclusive games shown at XB showcase which are releasing in the next year on Gamepass how are they going to recoup the cost knowing most folks owning a PC or an XB don't have to buy those games at retail price, they can just rent them through Gamepass myself included. To recoup the cost they are most likely going to have those new games as timed exclusives on XB then releasing them on existing platforms such as the PS5 & the Switch 2.
What's the complaint? It means you have access to more games on whatever platform you decide to play on. How can that even be a problem or complaint?
Please help me understand.
I think the complaint is Ms playing coy and not actually laying down a game plan. Personally I think it's cause they've still got hardware sitting on shelves. If they announce more and more aaa games that hardware will stay on the shelf. No company wants to take that kind of loss
Competition breeds innovation however there's no innovation from Ms they just buy out established companies in the industry hey cod makes money boom buy it.
I don't want to return to the Sony of 06 but I also would prefer ms stop trying to buy the industry.
However Nintendo seems to not care so the time is right for the Dreamcast 2 /s
Either Microsoft was going to force Call of Duty players to buy Xbox hardware or go multi-platform with software. For gamers, having Microsoft go multi-platform is the better option.
I think they are doing the right thing. Games that have historically released on other machines should continue to do so. If it's new ip then that can bue exclusive or not depending on what they want to do.
It's game pass vs tradition console market now. Both are good. Both can cater to different kind of gamers.
I honestly don't think so, that would make buying consoles redundant, which is why Xbox has almost faded into irrelevancy, it's also why people are sticking with PS4s instead of upgrading to PS5s. I'm sure Sony's dual release of console first release, PC later has also probably hurt them because PC players are willing to wait for games to arrive on their platform of choice. Nintendo and Sony shouldn't follow Xbox's lead, but I can't trust that Sony won't because they kinda have this generation.
May not be Xbox alone. Lego Horizon on Switch? What sense does that make in all this? The only one sitting comfortably in the shade is Nintendo. No PC ports and nothing similarly on anything. Does PlayStation really need anything on PC? Never did but Sony wants more return on investment, the first rule of business
Perhaps unsurprisingly, PlayStation’s social media is already being peppered by disgruntled fans, desperate for the format holder to step up its livestream game.
They need to buck their ideas up completely and rethink their State of Play shows in my opinion. If it's because they have nothing to show as any announcement will be years off then fair enough but then the question is why are they in that position.
Sony knew when Microsoft bought all these studios that eventually Microsoft would harvest all these games that were in development at the time of their purchase. They have had plenty time to prepare yet it just feels nothing has really come out of it so far. In the years since Microsoft bought Obsidian Entertainment, Ninja Theory and Double Fine around 2018/2019 it was clear they were ramping things up which they were as they went onto buy Zenimax in 2020 and then a couple years after Activision, two publishers with so many studios and IPs under their belt.
In that time Sony has decided to buy studios like Bungie, Haven and Firewalk Studios which are all GaaS related and haven't really put anything together to counter the new IPs Microsoft had acquired.
Everything from Sony at the minute is either third party games or this heavy PC focused most PS5 fans don't really care about.
However. If I was to be fair though and look at the other side of the coin at least they haven't announced games recently that could still be years away which is something that people seem to be giving Microsoft a pass with.
Yes the Microsoft show was great and hopefully it's given Sony a kick up the backside but most of the games shown like Fable, State of Decay 3, Avowed, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Perfect Dark and South of Midnight were games that were announced last year and before. The only brand new thing that really surprised me that's an exclusive was Gears of War.
Sony need to start going back to what made many people buy their consoles from the beginning, their first party games you couldn't get anywhere else with great single player experiences. Not every games needs to be AAA, they need to find a good balance.
I do feel Sony is holding off a lot of their big announcements for the Pro reveal. The last one was just to hold us over, the next one, especially now that MS has shown their hand, would be the strategic time to drop the big bombs once MS' showcase drops out of the headlines.
The entitlement of nerds! I get it, but also the old E3 era is dead (for now) Sony and Microsoft do not need to compete so that’s why there isn’t these big competitive events designed to win hearts and mindshare. Although I still hope they will be a live conference next year with members of the public who truly would give the event an atmosphere that is appreciated in millions of homes of gamers around the world.
Sony have all the chances in the world to reinforce the bond with their fans and bring other people over to the PS ecosystem but they choose instead some cheap ass « shows » to show nothing.
Xbox gave imo the strongest show ever.. it was packed with games and not so much talking.
This nonsense again. No matter how successful playstation is year in and year, no matter how many good games they release year in and year out, you'll have someone somewhere whining that it's not good enough and that they need to return to some past era.
Oh for Christ sake man, this shitty attitude of yours is why companies can get arrogant because no one says anything…no one’s allowed because fanboys like yourself throw a fit with their pretentious “you’re not allowed to say this” bull crap
The same happened to Microsoft for years with their die hard fans.
Microsoft have had a good show this year and has shown we their studios are stacked, what’s wrong with speaking out and wanting Sony to get their shit together with how quiet they’ve been?
It’s people like you licking the boot of these companies why nothing changes.
So yeah I guess I am whining about this because as a fan I’d like to see change and don’t want Sony to go back to their arrogant 2006 self.
Jesus…
Weird that people list games like Perfect Dark which probably isn't close to releasing and all these games ending of this year or in 2025 as if Playstation didn't already have a ton more exclusives this year, but, conveniently forget this years releases like Gran Blue Relink, FF VII Rebirth, Stellar Blade, Helldivers 2, Rise of the Ronin, Star Ocean 2nd R
Plus games like Zenless Zero, new Y''S, new Legend of Heroes, Silent Hill 2, Concord Death Stranding 2, Astrobot, Lego Horizon, Phantom Blade 0, Monster Hunter Stories 1 & 2, Tsukihime, Earth Defense Force 6 and many more not coming to Xbox as well.
The way I see it, the focus only GaaS has already cost us a ND game.
Foxtrot is not wrong. A good balance is the way.
So out of the 21games 13 are releasing on the PS5. Banger if a showcase though, their best in years.
Sony have released few bangers this yr rebirth helldivers rise of the ronin and stellablade ,which tbh I don't think was that good .but they have releases some good games this yr
"What are all the 1st party games that Sony's releasing this year ?"
They released MLB, will release Astrobot, remastered Until Dawn, Concord, Helldivers 2, published Rise of the Ronin and will do the same for Death Stranding 2. That's SEVEN games by Playstation this year. So you were saying? For Xbox we got what? Hellblade 2, Indiana Jones, Flight Simulator, Avowed, Age of Mythology?
Add in FAR more 3rd party exclusives and it's a wash.
Again there's not a single month where Xbox has more games or exclusives releasing really at any point this year.
If i was giving Xbox sh!t for the 10yrs of under delivering, you're damn straight im gonna get on PlayStations case when i see them heading the same way. And you know what? Ive been saying this for like 2yrs, and getting nothing but blind defense from people like you. NO! Something is off, i have been here for EVERY generation of PlayStation, hell every generation since the NES and Master System. This is by far the weakest generation ive seen, ESPECIALLY by Sony and i see no reason for it!
We are WAAAY past covid shut downs and recovering for those, no they are not "holding their cards close to their chest for the ms/ba deal" because thats done and over with, even if they were, why is it taking so long for so many of their studios? The only ACTUAL evidence we have to go on is the GAAS push, we've already heard from several sources that it's getting in the way of other major projects, we have OFFICIAL statements from ND themselves saying they it was taking too many resources from other projects and so they had to drop it. And right around that time Jim was announced to be leaving with no replacement ready, which does not happen unless you're pushed out.
These are decisions made, that can be unmade to get things back on track, some of it has, but i think they're making the poor decision to follow through as much as they can as not to lose the money they already dumped into all these gaas titles.
This "whining" is necessary, demand better, let them know not to do this sh!t again, damn right im gonna KEEP whining, cause this isn't the PlayStation ANY long term fan knows and loves.
@Foxtrot, feel free to live in the past if you want to, time only moves forward. Nobody is stoping you from mindlessly complaining about a hobby. I've likely been gaming longer than you, there has never been more great games to play and more ways to play them than now. Yet all we see from gaming media and on boards like n4g is negativity and complaining.
Dude what Sony showed and Ms showed was night and day. As a Sony fan. Show wise Ms killed Sony. Now the question of what's coming to Playstation from that show is another question. We already know doom is.
Foxtrot is absolutely right. You can be a fan and still critique. Sony deserves the critique
" Ive been saying this for like 2yrs, and getting nothing but blind defense from people like you."
Same here. It's good to see the tide turning a bit.
@Chevalier
I don't know if your a fanboy or what but the dislikes you're seeing are unfounded.
Last week gamers were all against Xbox and now we have self-proclaimed PS fanboys saying Xbox brought the heat when most of what was on show is not exclusive and not even launching this year. Given how messed up MSFS 2020 was I'm not excited and I picked up the second highest tier version of that game day one on PC for $90.
You also have a few other big games everyone said they're waiting for most of which are set to release next year. So of the 9 games launching this year the only ones coming only to Xbox consoles (ignoring PC) we have Age of Mythology, MSFS, Avowed, and Indiana Jones. Plus 6 DLCs of which only 1 is only on Xbox (again excluding PC where 1 of the aforementioned 6 is a true PC exclusive). Most of what what shown was offline rendered trailers that won't represent the actual game and most of the 9 games coming this year (5 of them) will be available on PC and PS5. MSFS might be pushed to 2025. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Avowed are only said to come this year without hard dates. MSFS has a mid November release date with the first releasing in a bad way I hope this release is better (though I won't get it because my PC won't likely meet minimum spec unless this one is very well optimized) only Age of Mythology will for certain release this year with its early August date set.
So in actuality there is Age of Mythology, MSFS 2024, and Starfield DLC with the potential for 2 other games releasing this year from MS 1st and 2nd parties. Of the 4 games supposed to be launching this year we saw gameplay of only 3. Indiana Jones might look as good as shown, but I didn't see any gameplay and what we saw of supposed gameplay of the game from the last showcase looked really rough.
But MS really brought the heat... tons of stuff for everyone and no real reason to switch to Xbox from PS (or from PC to Xbox). Even for PC gamers what here was really exciting? What will you be buying that will help Microsoft? Basically everything that was shown was 3rd party and can be picked up via Steam which helps MS in no way whatsoever. They're still a cyst on gaming with a better showcase than PS' recent State of Play but this Xbox showcase wasn't that much better than PS' most recent and being honest pretty atrocious State of Play.
If PS' last SoP was an F this Xbox showcase was a D+.
For a company like Sony to hold the market share it certainly isn't good enough, not by a long shot.
We are 4 years in , where are all these great games?
The problem is there is no competition. We can be mad at the showcase but they are still making tons of money and outselling the competition hand over fist so from their perspective why take the risks. We need someone to bring real competition otherwise they can sit on their laurels reading all the complaints while sipping on their chai tea.
This was actually a great showcase from Microsoft. Incredible games after another got to be honest.
With the exeption of fortnight looking Dragon Age. My pain was immeasurable.
How did it come from this..
https://youtu.be/rGbgcmNxFh...
Well I mean, xbox showcase was mostly multiplats. So if by a better show they mean Sony should spend some money to have multiplats revealed in a Somy conference to create a better show, Im not sure I agree with that. But I do think that Sony should reveal what they are working on.
This 100 percent execs need to stop thinking about the potential of a gaas game and instead work on what the fans who made them the market leader want
This Fanboy culture that's gripped NRG is turning me away from the community it's always been around but it's never been more toxic we can't criticise we most always love Sony it's garbage
But don't you usually hate on Sony? For you it should be the other way around, you must criticize MS’s garbage.
@s2kiklinit I don't normally hate on Sony at all I've owned every Sony console including PSP, vita, and psvr1/2 I've been around king enough to have seen where they started and I just don't like this ps5 era Sony I'm feeling burnt by the lack of vr2 support overall and I feel like the 5 is the first console that does nothing to set itself apart from PC and competition consoles.
I still like Sony overall but they should not be immune from criticism even by their fans.
To be clear I don't like Xbox I have owned a 360 and a one simply for halo when it used to be exclusive. But now if there's any Xbox first party I find appealing I'll play it on PC I don't like their console I hate their controller but doesn't mean I will hate on them blindly.
If anything I've been the most satisfied with Nintendo's approach lately they still produce big name exclusives sure the tech is behind but Im getting unique gameplay experiences that I'm simply not getting anywhere else like totk or wonder. Doesn't mean their perfect I'm annoyed the switch 2 is delayed again the switch is long overdue for a refresh as third party games are horrible right now
Playstation owners get to play the majority of games shown during the showcase, which invalidates whatever point the tool, who wrote the article was trying to make.
I don't know, buddy.
I don't disagree with you on principle. But from my perception.
Sony's been putting up a very decent software line-up for PS5 so far, even for the 'lackluster' 2024 period.
But why can't we just appreciate what we collectively already know?
Sony's major first party titles over the last 15 years were always perfectly polished and very, VERY well received.
Whatever the 'Big Four/Five' are working on:
Give them time!
PS5 is a new hardware. And you can bet that the major first party studios want nothing less but to put out the same results they've done with the likes such as God of War, Spiderman, Astro's, Returnal, Horizon, etc.
This doesn't come within 3¾ years after PS5's launch. It just doesn't.
I would really appreciate it if we'd only accept this. Sony hasn't changed their commitment on story driven single player games. Hulst confirmed this on two separate occassions now.
The next Playstation Showcase will happen.
They definitely changed under Jim. Hopefully these new 2 get it back on track. Not alot of Sony fans were asking for a Concord, or a marathon. Not even close. Someone up top mentioned. Gaas games have Definitely cost us a ND game already
I think Jim Ryan is at the heart of it all. What he wanted, what he pushed , etc. What were seeing now is Jim Ryan's fruits. These two guys haven't even had enough time in for their big plans. I think Sony seen this and told Jim to step
One timen in recent 2 generations Xbox does a excellent show finally doing what they’re supposed to do since day one and now we get dubious articles claiming some sort of BS based on a few tweets from people that can easily be some hardcore Xbox fans just posting crap on multiple accounts.
Edit I agree with your post @foxtrot
What did MS show here that made PS's most recent presentation look bad?
PS's most recent presentation didn't have much to show and that was what made it weak. What about MS' showcase? 6 gameplay trailers and the rest were cinematic trailers almost everyone complains about? A new GoW game with no release date and no gameplay shown...
More hype from team green, where have we seen that before? Ah, right, 'I'm Foxtrot and I was just born today and have never seen this before!' Get real man.
Alright, let's dive into this. Sony's State of Play presentations might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I've got to defend them here. Look, Sony's strategy might not be as flashy as Microsoft's studio-buying spree, but that doesn't mean they're falling behind.
I mean, come on, Sony's been making some savvy moves. Instead of throwing money around left and right, they've been focusing on strategic partnerships and collaborations. Take Insomniac Games, for example. They've been knocking it out of the park with titles like Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank, and Sony knew exactly what they were doing when they brought them on board.
And let's talk about State of Play. Sure, it might not have the same bombastic flair as some other showcases, but I've got to give credit where credit's due. Sony's been showcasing some killer exclusives like Horizon Forbidden West and God of War: Ragnarok. It's all about quality over quantity, and Sony's been delivering on that front.
Plus, let's not forget about innovation. Sony's been pushing the envelope with technologies like the SSD in the PS5, revolutionizing load times and gameplay experiences. It's not just about the games themselves, but how they're played, and Sony's been leading the charge on that front.
So yeah, while Sony might not be making the biggest waves right this second, I've got faith in them. They're playing the long game, and history has shown that they know how to come out on top.
Comparing the shows should be in perspective that Xbox showed more games that were much further out, something like 2 year (hard to tell when Gears has no window). Sony didn't venture out of the next like 8 months.
Xbox's show was more forcused on brand hype while Sonys was casually showing upcoming games.
One Big quality AAA exclusive from Sony, invalidates 100 mediocre games from 20 studios
In the past few years, nothing came out that touched Sony level of quality over the years
The only game that i can think of is Elden Ring and that's about it
Quality over quantity I don't defend them, it is just the truth.
Xbox definitely had better third-party showings, but I really just want Sony to start showing us first-party titles. There's got to be something new they can show us, right? And it can't just be one or two games, it has to be at least half a dozen.
I mean, at least we know Bungie isn't sitting idly by and Insomniac is doing Wolverine. But ND just cancelled their MP TLoU plans, what are they working on now let alone the second studio they have that's been quiet for 4 years now? Sucker Punch? Bend?
Did all the big studios have ideas that were canned and start working on new things? Was Jim Ryan that bad of a CEO that they veered that far off the path and are working their way back to it?
"I mean, at least we know Bungie isn't sitting idly by and Insomniac is doing Wolverine. But ND just cancelled their MP TLoU plans, what are they working on now let alone the second studio they have that's been quiet for 4 years now? Sucker Punch? Bend? "
If they hypothetically announce something like Ghost of Tsushima 2 and give us a release date within 6-8 months of it's announcement, something like what Bethesda did with Fallout 4s reveal at E3 then I would TOTALLY get their plans and why they've been so quiet. However if they end up announcing their titles and the release dates are still so far off despite being so quiet for years then I'm at a complete loss with it.
Having a change in strategy and only wanting to announce games when they know they are 100% going to release the same year is the only thing that will make sense and something I can totally get behind.
"Was Jim Ryan that bad of a CEO that they veered that far off the path and are working their way back to it?"
I'm still convinced his GaaS plans are why he took early retirement, after seeing issues with NaughtyDog being put on something they weren't comfortable with I think higher ups knew putting all their existing studios on these games was a bad move. Obviously they've had to see some of them out until the end but I think he's why some of these studios are so quiet because they've wasted time on live service stuff that just wasn't working.
That's exactly my problem, is even if they announce something, it's likely not coming out for about another year, the only time a PlayStation 1st party has taken longer than 3-4yrs between releases is it were in development hell. Seems like half their studios are in development hell.
Honestly it annoys me to see this about face defending this garbage when PlayStation fans have always been the more outspoken, more demanding fanbase out of the 3. Now all of a sudden we're defending studios going completely awol for 5+yrs?
I don't think anyone is looking for Sony to lay everything out there, but at least announce something. Right now I only know of Wolverine and I think it's fairly well known Ghost of Tsushima is getting a sequel. Other than these service games, just give us a glimpse of one or two games so people have something to look forward to.
I understand wanting to know and being frustrated with not knowing. But what do we know? We know that they don't have any major releases for this year. That means no reveals till next year. Most of the games Microsoft showed are either not announcements or aren't coming this year.
Everyone has their own preferences and mine is to not wait. I want the announcement and I want the launch to be imminent lol.
For example I HATE the fact that Wolverine was announced so far ahead in advance. No more than a 6 month notice please!!!
People want to sit back and fight over showcases like it matters. Xbox showcase is a Playstation showcase now anyway so I don't care.
Also stop freaking out about Sony first party. I pray they don't fold to the mania and I hope the withhold info until the damn game is ready.
***Also stop freaking out about Sony first party.***
First, it's not 'freaking out' but just 'worried'. Also, it's been years. So, no. I'll worry because it is a worrying situation compared to the competition. You can not be worried, but I will be until I see Sony giving me a reason to not be worried.
I'm not worried because they have a track record. I'm also not worried because I have stuff I didn't even get to yet. Is it even reasonable to think that Sony can keep the pace with the richest company in the world who also bought 2 major publishers just to crank out content? No one would be able to keep up with that. That's why I'm accusing you of freaking out. All I know is when the games come they will be worth it. Let Microsoft keep cranking out games we can all play while we wait. 😎 No worries!
***Is it even reasonable to think that Sony can keep the pace with the richest company in the world***
They've been doing it up until now. And it's literally a 1st-party drought, not just not having as many. They literally have next to nothing. So, why is it suddenly unreasonable? Especially considering their market reach and profits off of said market reach? If a company that is supposed to make games for me stops, I'm not just going to accept it. They should provide the service. I don't care who it is.
The time for silence is over. At least, I’m over it. Open the first party floodgates, while I’m still alive lol!
I've never heard of this rumor at all after Sony's SOP. In fact last year it wasn't even a real rumor. Colin Moriarty tried spreading his speculation off as a rumor. When Colin knew nothing at all.
The only thing they're gonna have is a pro SOP. Unless that's what you meant.
I'll keep an ear out for SOP rumor but so far I haven't heard nothing.
Sony's state of play's are NOT showcases. That state of play was primarily to show first party titles due this year and some indie titles due this year and early next year. They will clearly have a showcase to push the ps5 pro later this year likely in September.
SammyB... of course...
PlayStation's big show is going to be later in the year when they show the PS5 Pro.
They said that last year. A showcase in September last year, then it was suppose to be that December.
I think they're gonna show upcoming games taking advantage of Pro. Upcoming 3rd parties and existing games that'll take advantage of pro.
If you think it'll be Ghost 2, Bend, ND then you're gonna be disappointed. Some of y'all need to start having realistic expectations at this point seriously.
Marvels Wolverine...
I think it'll be ND, who was working on two single player games simultaneously with the TLOU MP, Ghost of Tsushima 2 is absolutely likely, as well as Bend's game and Insomniac's Wolverine, Bluepoint is also a likely to show Bungie is also likely to show Marathon again as well as Haven, Housemarque is another studio that could potentially have a 2025 release .
They also have a Horizon MMO in the works at NC Soft and a partnership for Project LLL and Project G. As well as a half dozen gacha games coming from various Chinese and Korean developers.
Every studio that hasn't released a game so far is likely to have something to show, obviously Sony has known the Pro was going to be a thing since even before the gen started, it's extremely likely that they have been purposely holding off on showing their hand specifically for this show.
I know you want to perpetuate the story that PlayStation doesn't have games but they both have a ton of studios working on projects as well as the strongest relationships to bring 3'rd party games to their console.
It's like trying to act like PlayStation hasn't had a ton of games so far in 2024 when all the most talked about games were PlayStation, FF7R, Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade, plus Rise of the Ronin and GranBlue Fantasy Relink just being some of the bigger titles.
Pretty much every week we see games getting announced from this developer or that making games for PlayStation that aren't on xbox.
No, some rumours suggested they were waiting till later in the year but changed track due to delays to stuff. The key difference is they called their summer show a showcase. They did not call the state of play a showcase and even announced it the day before and stated it was primarily to show first party titles due in the next few months and indie titles due in near future.
Why would Ghost 2 be unreasonable? God of War came out in 2018 and they came back with a sequel in 2022. GoT came out summer of 2020.
"Marvels Wolverine..."
That's not releasing until 2026 according to the leak. Unless Sony decides to show it early build.
"I know you want to perpetuate the story that PlayStation doesn't have games"
I do? Where did I perpetrate that?
If you really think Sony will have another showcase later in the year again then I guess you can hold on to hope. Maybe I'll be wrong, I'll eat that crowd if I am wrong plus I'll be playin those games anyway I don't lose out on nothing. I'm just being realistic and it sounds like hopium from you tbh.
I haven't heard of another Showcase. A pro showcase which we know has to happen is speculation, again we know that has to happen and it will happen. Again if you think they're gonna show off all those titles at the pro showcase, you gonna be disappointed. If Sony doesn't want to show off games early, what difference does 4 month make to suddenly show off those titles in September? They're gonna show off those new 1st party games when time gets closer. Showing off the pro along with games that are still awhile away doesn't make much sense, only upcoming games make better since.
Doesn't bother me if it's 3rd party exclusives. I just find it funny when MS had 3rd party stuff it didn't count, it suddenly counts when Sony does it though.
If you think they are just going to show the Pro and not show any games you're the one who is going to be disappointed. And it's not like Microsoft's fake rumors started by angry fanboys on twitter. PlayStations leak of the Pro came from Tom Henderson who leaked the new headset the earbuds the portal even the Inzone stuff was leaked by him. Tom Henderson has a 100% track record for PlayStation leaks, if he says the Pro is coming at the end of the year it's coming.
Obviously PlayStations Studios are working on projects and if they haven't released them so far they are OBVIOUSLY nearing completion, we know how long it takes to make a game and when all their last games released.
Obviously there is going to be a big show for the Pro, and obviously PlayStation is going to show off games that have been being worked on specifically for the Pro that they haven't wanted to show until they could show Pro enhanced versions of the game as the first look versus showing lesser versions early on base PS5 hardware. It's a logical approach, it's smart business to do that.
Heck they might even show the PS5 Pro version of the Blade game where it's going to run best.
"If you think they are just going to show the Pro and not show any games you're the one who is going to be disappointed."
They are. Upcoming 3rd party games and even some existing games.
I said the pro was coming along with a pro showcase. That's not the argument or debate, the debate is rather their big 1st party stuff will be at the show. Or in this case a Showcase because you can't cram those games in 35 minute program.
"Obviously PlayStations Studios are working on projects and if they haven't released them so far they are OBVIOUSLY nearing completion"
If that were true they would of announced them already. Get the hype and pre orders rolling Show something in engine at the first event, THEN show deep dive on PS5 pro showcase along with release dates of late 2025 early 2026 at the second event. Who knows if that'll be the case but I dunno I doubt it.
"Heck they might even show the PS5 Pro version of the Blade game where it's going to run best."
Show Blade on PS BEFORE the Xbox version?
Didn't take long until we get deep in the woods of fanboyism. I think you need to take a nap.
"If that were true they would of announced them already"
I already answered the only point you made in my prior comment.
Obviously there is going to be a big show for the Pro, and obviously >>>>>PlayStatio n is going to show off games that have been being worked on -->specifically for the Pro<--- that they >>haven't wanted to show until they could show Pro enhanced versions of the game<<< as the first look >>>versus showing lesser versions early on base PS5 hardware.<<<< It's a logical approach, it's smart business to do that.
And your premise is not good business, there is no point in showing versions on lower hardware. Did Microsoft show even a single game on the S in their show or any show for that matter... no obviously it was all X (well PC) but not S.
And this is not Microsoft who shows games 5 years before their release date.
You call me a fanboy but look how desperate you are to convince people that PlayStation has 20+ studios and none of them is going to have games ready to show... You could have easily looked at my comment and moved on, but instead you repeatedly try to instigate.
Oh and Death Stranding 2
Show Blade on "PS5 PRO" BEFORE the Xbox version?
They obviously want to show the best version of the game!
Sony's big games will be clear to release after April 2025. It's possible they could show Bends new game on it as I think that game is closer to release than any other 1st party. I'll meet you in the middle that's fairly possible bend or some other game could show up. But ND and Ghost 2 at the same time I just can't see it. GTA 6 second trailer on Pro. Which would be the biggest game out of all the games MS showed. That single game would dwarf everything MS has shown easily. If Sony is willing to throw a staggering amount of money at R* that is.
"You call me a fanboy but look how desperate you are to convince people that PlayStation has 20+ studios and none of them is going to have games ready to show... You could have easily looked at my comment and moved on, but instead you repeatedly try to instigate."
Disagreeing isn't instigating. And I gave you my reasons why their big games won't be at the Pro show except maybe 1 game perhaps. Hey other PS fans on Twitter are calling out Sony on Twitter, these companies are your friends you have demand better something Xbox gamers know more than anyone. Besides you think MS will show Blade on PS before their own console.
Naw you reek of fanboy have some else of awareness and own up to it. Especially after that Blade comment.
"Sony's big games will be clear to release after April 2025"
You question what i say then you just pull this date out of your butt...
Yeah, they are going to wait until this specific after April 2025 to show games instead of at their most important event... just ridiculous...
What you're saying is just dumb... I may be optimistic but you are desperate...
"Disagreeing isn't instigating"
Maybe, but making more and more desperate and ridiculous replies is...
"You question what i say then you just pull this date out of your butt..."
How you gonna claim I made that up then confirm what I just said the very next sentence. I gotta remember I'm Dealing with a fanboy here my lordy...
How am I desperate? Desperate about what? I have both consoles I don't miss out unlike you.
I'm not the one saying Sony is gonna announce their mega hits at Pro showcase. Or how Blade will show up at the PS pro show before an Xbox event. That's the very definition of desperation you're looking for kiddo. I even said it could be possible for at least 1 new 1st party game at best. The rest being 3rd party or games already announced running on Pro.
But hey hope away I guess.
Einhander on every xbox article saying g dates and other confirmation of games but really he has no clue what sony is doing as do I
I think it'll be ND, who was working on two single player games simultaneously with the TLOU MP, Ghost of Tsushima 2 is absolutely likely, as well as Bend's game and Insomniac's Wolverine, Bluepoint is also a likely to show Bungie is also likely to show Marathon again as well as Haven, Housemarque is another studio that could potentially have a 2025 release .

Pretty much every week we see games getting announced from this developer or that making games for PlayStation that aren't on xbox.
Don’t know why people are in uproar. This is the best Microsoft showcase in 10 damn years! It’s not like Sony have lost their position as top dog. Calm down people….
This is why competition is good!
Weird that Playstation 5 has had FAR FAR more exclusives released this year already and far more this fall as well so not sure why everyone sees games for Xbox not even out this year or late in 2024 and conveniently forget that fact. Silent Hill 2, Death Stranding 2, Until Dawn, Astrobot and a ton more 3rd party exclusives the rest for the year. I don't think there's a single month where Xbox has more games or exclusives this year at all. It's literally not close in any way shape or form comparing game lists. Even adding the games announced today does NOT change that fact.
Silent Hill 2 - PC
Death Stranding 2 - PC
Until Dawn - PC
Helldivers - The majority of their sales were on PC
"Death Stranding 2 doesn't even release this year."
I stand corrected. Still doesn't change the fact that Playstation has multiple 1st party games and published games this year. 6 games or more if I missed any. Include the fact that Helldivers alone sold 12+ million copies in 12 weeks and I'm not seeing how Playstation is doing badly in comparison.
Xbox isn't exactly blowing past everyone here. Playstation has far more games and exclusives each month. Don't get me wrong Xbox had a great show and it's nice games are releasing.
Which 1st party games. Besides Hell Divers 2 in which they own the IP not so much the studio.
Each month? Ok which big PS exclusives release this and next month.
"Each month? Ok which big PS exclusives release this and next month"
Which month does Xbox have more games than Playstation releasing?! What did Xbox have when Playstation had FF7 Rebirth? Helldivers 2? Rise of the Ronin?
"Helldivers - The majority of their sales were on PC"
44% of sales were on Playstation. Which Xbox games sold 10 million recently?! Oh right NONE. Don't think any Xbox 1st party game has broken 10 million in quite awhile
Around the launch of Spiderman 1 on the PS4 Sony faced significant criticism for showing games far to early and repeatedly showing them over multiple years so the changes tact they show a project when it's near completion.
Xbox loves to show games 3,4 ,5 years plus out from completion but they sprinkle in so many smaller games frequently that it's less of a focus.
And finally props to Xbox after years of duds they finally had a good showcase unfortunately it was full of filler and crap that really took away from it
Sony has no big names for this year outside of astrobot that's just what it is I think they have some big stuff for early next year but are not ready to show it yet.
We are rumoured to be getting a more substantial showcase later in the year.
Sony has no big names this year? FF7 Rebirth and Helldivers 2. And a couple of other million+ seller exclusives.
But i guess it's not first party so it doesn't count as "big name"...
Clarifying I was specifically talking about the recent state of play that was widely panned as lackluster with the only wow moment being astrobot and nothing has been acknowledged for 2025 at this stage.
The point is that Sony has nothing annouced for 2025 and they stopped showing off anything to far ahead while Xbox feels it's perfectly fine to show off a game that may not come out for years so they can have these huge showcases but they beef them out for so much indie filler.
I never actually said anything about their released games so far this year that's never been up for debate first party or third party exclusives.
Right? And it's not like Helldiver 2 sold 12+ million copies in record time for Playstation though. Oh wait....
https://www.pcgamer.com/gam...
@LikAChicken
56% is a small majority. Meaning almost half (44%) of the game copies were sold on PS5. Not like 70% or more of sales were on PC.
I don't think MS "loves" showing games years away. They're simply pressured to do so. Like in 2019 everyone on Twitter was saying where are the games! Despite it being a year since those aquisions. Got mad in 2020 because it was all CG. If they never announced those titles then everyone would be mad, but got mad Anyway because they announced those titles and yes it was CG. Catch 22 situation.
"unfortunately it was full of filler and crap that really took away from it"
What filler and crap? You mean the Expansions and LS updates. Should of know those were gonna be in there, those are communities after all.
As I said above you you think Sony's pro showcase will reveal all the games we want suddenly? They said last year was suppose to be a another big showcase and nothing.
For filler and crap I mean those games that just occupied space they weren't interesting or special in any way and bleed into each other badass female sources takes on mystical enemies possibly with a fish out of water theme ala forspoken I saw at least 5 of those style of games and I was so bored by it.
Xbox has definitely knocked it out the park with their last few shows. In game trailers, gameplay and just more overall exciting announcements.
Sony on the other hand has definitely been stale with their shows as of late. I think we're at a point where all their big name studios are in the middle of development and won't have anything to show until next year, let alone any release dates. And their third party showings are mid.
Not really sure what Sony can do at this point to appease the fans when nothing is ready to be shown.
If I'm being honest I have not been all that impressed with Sony's shows or state of plays ever since they left E3 it feels like they are doing the bare minimum but they used to dominate e3 ever since the first 299 speech all the way up until the here's how you borrow PS4 games.
They were really good at showing it off timing and presentation wise I walked away from their shows wanting to try games j would never want to traditionally.
But nowadays it's so bland you could interchange state of play for almost any other companies presentation
I love my ps5 but Sony really needs to step it up. This years been mostly a bust and I’m hoping 2025 isn’t on the same track.
They released several exclusive games this year and that's all i really need from my PS5.
Sony has done a great job releasing 3rd paty exclusives this year but it's time to show PS5 owners what they are working on when it comes to AAA first-party games. These past few years Sony has been too tight lipped & secretive, something they never used to be.
@ Elda.
I get wanting updates on first party but most first party devs have had less than 3 years of dev time since their last game. Take into account their last games were cross gen games that took over 4 to 5 years to make. And there is the expectation that these new games will bring the "True" next gen so i don't know why it's expected to take less or the same time to make. When they are ready they will show the games and Sony will let them take whatever time they need like they did with the 7+ year helldivers 2 development.
All i hear with this first party talk is people asking Sony to crack the crunch whip...
ND's last game was 4 years ago, the same for Sucker Punch & Media Molecule. There's supposed to be a title being developed by Santa Monica studios for a few years now. I get not showing something that is 3 years or more away from being released but I'm quite sure there will be some first-party titles that'll be released in 2025/2026 & now is the time to start getting PS5 owners hyped. Up until 2018 Sony had no problem showing games that were being developed. For the past 5 years they have been very tight lipped & secretive.
One was a 30 minute highlight of some games, the other was a major showcase from many developers and publishers of upcoming games from 2024-2025, Sony will have a similar showcase in September no?
Who knows? Not like they'll actually tell us anything for sure until a week before it happens.
It's in engine footgae to the credit of the devs they are highly skilled and they did help epic build the matrix demo. But Sony have another 5 years to figure it out there's no date on E day and it's a ms show I wouldn't expect that game anytime soon might be a crossgen title at this point.
Yeah service games have been at the detriment of older fans but it's definitely more appealing to the younger crowds I think.
I've been a PS gamer since the PS1 and a gamer since the 8 bit era I've never seen the lack of variety in games that we are seeing now
I just want to say yes the Xbox showcase was definitely the best these past couple weeks but I’m a pc gamer. Nothing in Xbox’s show ever really mentioned exclusivity so it’s a show all of us can enjoy really.
Yeah I'm not feeling jealous at all. I own a gaming pc a ps5 and a switch I'm covered. I guess ppl are more willing to complain than to spend some money on hardware
I'd assume some things are going to be exclusive like perfect dark but the big thing for me is doom is Multi plat would have been very angry if it wasn't as a long time doom fan it should be on everything can possibly run on calculators potatoes etc that's in the games DNA
While this is Xbox's best showing in years, I'm just looking at all the games available for PC, quite a few of these games are multi-plats as well.
Your point being? Is exclusivity to a platform necessary for you to play a game?
Regarding the games that were showcased, did you find them interesting?
If the answer is yes then it's a win and a double win if you get to play them.
@Petebloodonion,
Yes, it's the reason a particular console exists (it's the reason I don't own a PS5 either, just a PC/Switch), so I'll just get the PC versions since they're not exclusives. A lot of these games did not interest me personally, but I'll still pick up Doom: The Dark Ages, Metal Gear and Gears of War, maybe I'll pick up Mecha Break and Age of Mythology Retold on a whim later.
Literally over half the games are multiplatform titles. A quarter or so if which Microsoft will have had to basically pay the development costs for to get day 1 on games pass. People don't even need to buy a pc to play most of the games shown.
Oh wow. Look at that. You can tell when someone is a fanboy when no matter what your obsession does you always praise them. In this case it seems all these Sony fans are clearly not fanboys.
I own all 3 current consoles but I'm a PS gamer first. I have to say out of the many disappointing XB showcases I've seen over the years XB/MS turned it out this year with a great showing of games mostly releasing next year & most are releasing on Gamepass. MS/XB showcase was the best videogame showcase this year so far. The only downside about the event was most games shown had no concrete release dates including some games releasing this year. Sony needs to step up to the plate & stop this silent treatment being secretive about the games their working on. I understand games that may be far off from releasing but any games that are going to be released within the next 12 to 18 months they should show.
The sole positive aspect is that we experienced a comparable scenario last year with Xbox regarding Starfield's release date, which was ultimately revealed during the September Showcase. We can anticipate a similar announcement for Indiana Jones and Avowed.
I may try playing Indiana Jones & Avowed to see what they're giving, those 2 games are not in my top list to play, to me both games look somewhat meh. Most games shown at XB Showcase that looked very interesting to me that I'm eager to play are not releasing until next year.
Xbox showcases are always impressive though. Half of these games have been at showcases since 2019: Fable, Avowed, Stalker 2, Perfect Dark, and the Dragon Age formally known as Dreadwolf all have.
With that being said though, Sony needs to do better. This is what happens when there isn’t any real competition.
I think we've reached a point of industry consolidation where Sony is unlikely to have a better showcase unless you see what their main first party studios are working on. Literally, Microsoft just needs to get agreement from third parties to show their games, and also sprinkle in their first party games. They have a ridiculous amount of studios now. To the point that they can have some of their studios show off AAA titles while the others are still developing theirs. Sony won't have ABK or Zenimax titles at their shows anymore.
To compound that, the moment Sony shows what their big studios have been working on, well... That's kind of it until they have new projects. If the same games are shown again, the perception becomes "nothing new was shown".
Playstation isn't going to be hurting for content on the platform, but I don't see how they can have a better showing on any consistent basis given that Microsoft has about twice as many studios. Microsoft would literally have to show off terrible games in that scenario (though, to be fair, it's not always immediately clear before release that games are bad—Redfall is a good example of this).
Personally, I wouldn't mind the updates on Sucker Punch and Naughty Dog, even if they show them again at a later date before release. But I get the perception. I guess we'll have to wait and see the approach taken by the new leadership.
Microsoft will run games into the ground eventually imo. Just have to wait. You can't moneyhat your way to the top for long when it comes to video games. You need a culture of creativity.
Honestly, I think they had a good showing. I personally won't be supporting any of their games, but they definitely had a solid showing.
Unfortunately, exactly what I thought would happen, did happen: people are willing to overlook the recent studio closures if the showing was solid. It was, and people are. Difference of opinion, which is fine, but yeah, I personally can't in good conscience buy any of these first party multiplatform games, even if they come to PlayStation.
Force of habit for me. I stopped using Windows and MS products years ago, cancelled my Playstation Plus sub, don't buy products supportive of Israel, and I'm only now thinking to give Konami a chance after canning Kojima and snubbing him (because I feel that he's been unshackled and is thriving).
I do miss out on things because of this, but it's hardly a downside where savings are concerned.
Darxyde I don't mind giving microsoft money when they do good but they usually make stinkers and quality always gets worse from their micromanaging. I only buy single player games 99 percent of the time so usually I'm not impressed by microsoft much. The only reason I own starfield is that it regrettably came with my cpu purchase as a freebie. Would have liked a different game but oh well my 7800x3d was worth it.
Sony's leading market share is advantageous, as third-party developers tend to favor platforms with a wide user base to outperform competitors. It seems Sony is adopting a similar approach to Nintendo, focusing on not squandering resources unnecessarily.
What??? That's the stupidest thing Ive ever heard! This ain't no democracy! PlayStation had a bad showing, it was a State of Play, that's how they usually go, as opposed to the E3 Press Conferences they used to have THAT WERE AWESOME! But, everyone wanted to follow Nintendo now so, this is what we get, boring. But, you don't go to PlayStation and say "That sucked, give us something better!" That's NOT how it works. PlayStation, themselves, have to evaluate how things went and decide on their own.
It's like playing hockey (Stanley Cup Finals time). You have to plan out your strategies. Put your players with the right lines that sync and can pull off good plays because they can read each other. Sometimes the opposition breaks through and sadly, sometimes they get a Breakway, but you usually have your two defenseman that hold things off so you can regroup, maybe call for a changeup to reset and strike again. That's what this showing was, it's not a breakway challenging PlayStation's goalie but it puts their offense in a change for a shot on goal to see if they can score. PlayStation has their goalie and he's fine, but Xbox got a good offense play.
There was very little GAMEPLAY in Xbox's presentation. It was mostly trailers with text that said in-game engine, that doesn't mean much of anything, yet. Trailers mean the game is still aways out, especially with Fable.
[End Part I response]
[Part 2 Response - See Part I]
Now, this is also why it's not a breakway. Xbox has no gameplay. Gears E-Day, for example, we don't know how far exactly out it could be and we have no idea, yet, what Naughty Dog, Bend, Media Molecule, and maybe Sucker Punch (probably Ghost of Tsushima 2, which is too predictable). We do know what's coming from Insomniac, which isn't great. You only have so many Marvel fans and a lot of PlayStation fans aren't happy about the leak, it's all Marvel. NO Sunset Overdrive 2, nothing from Insomniac that's daring or inventive like they used to be, but, it's NOT a breakway because we have no idea how long Xbox games are out, especially where Xbox is teetering on the hardware front and toying with multi-platform. Will it launch on Game Pass, but The Coalition also needs to be ready to release on PS5 and they need a team working on that. Are they waiting to see the Switch 2 and if Gears E-Day will run on it like it'll run on the Series S. We don't know. What we do know now, is that when PlayStation announced something, these days, it's not far off from release like it used to be. PlayStation's offense is much quicker. PlayStation's teams have had a long time to work on games and Xbox is having to rely on Activision to try and carry the weight. Bethesda is trying to be Insomniac. The studio that has a lot of games going to crank them out, that's how Insomniac used to be.
So, we got a bad showing or severely underwealming showing from PlayStation and Xbox had a good one, applaud them for that. Let them have that win, they earned it.
But, you're comparing a State of Play to an Xbox Showcase, what should've been Xbox's Stanley Cup Finals or World Series but, Xbox had a lot of third-party showing which is free marketing for PlayStation for consumers that watched and have a PS5 that's a bigger install base.
When Sony shows their Showcase, what they need to do is a pre-show to get all the third-party stuff out of the way and then move into the main event that's all first-party games and their hardware. The PS5 Pro and top that off with a major franchise or new IP from their strongest developer to show what the PS5 Pro can do. They ALSO need to let the PS4 go. Here we are halfway through the PS5 generation still asking the question "Why do I have a PS5?" Did Xbox answer that question? No. We saw nothing that differences Xbox One X from Xbox Series X.
Wait until Sonys PlayStation Showcase. If they blow that, then you can be worried and irate. But your kind of comparing Apples to Mangos. PlayStation gave you Apples. Xbox gave your oranges, were waiting on PlayStations mangos
Xbox answered the question "why do I have a ps5" because half the games shown were multiplatform games I'll enjoy playing on my ps5. That's not even considering the fact that showcase literally cost Microsoft 80 billion dollars and from what we have been hearing a good chunk of their exclusive titles will likely be on ps5 aswell.
I don't beg but surely it wouldn't hurt if they were to tease some, and they did none of that.
Just little something to grab your attention and hype meter in check and see it's still working.
They relied too much on 3rd party to ride through their drought period.
This should be the lesson that they have to make and release smaller tighter and fun games during this period it doesn't have to be all AAA titles which took forever to make.
Astro Bot is their answer but that's just one game that can really shine while all their big guns are still in the workshop, they need more.
Sony got too comfy for a bit with being ahead of xbox lol smh steady babbling on about live service games lol funny thing us they been talking more about live service than Microsoft smh
These articles are ridiculous. Begging ? We have seen Xbox shows praised so many times and then the games come out and bleh. Same cycle every Xbox show
This is Xbox's E3. D+
Of course PS' E3, which was basically their SoP and was really bad. F and being real Astro Bots looking incredible doesn't bring that grade up because it was literally the only good looking game there and I'm not even in the minority with that opinion with the biggest disappointment being Concord. Now Concord might turn out to be good even great, but I don't see myself buying it. I skipped HD2 and probably won't ever play it just like Concord.
Even with these grades (and healthy criticism of the PS State of Play) how is this a significant win for MS? Only 4 of the games shown are slated for this year and exclusive to Xbox - ignoring PC plus 1 of 6 DLCs going by console exclusivity. 1 of the 4 games coming this year showed no gameplay (Indiana Jones) and the other 3 are not exactly console pushing games. MSFS (a meh flight sim whose predecessor was trash on multiple levels), Avowed (the game where the more is shown the less people are interested) and Age of Mythology: Retold (as the name suggests is a remake of a much older RTS, again not exactly a huge get).
We saw tons of cinematics for games that are no where near completion and a teaser for a prequel to Gears (in E-Day) which didn't even tell us what year to expect a release. And somehow... again this is a huge win? Another hurry up and wait showcase... but with more compelling games than PS' SoP makes it the new megaton?
SINCE WHEN!?
I agree with you, PS fans aren't begging for better SoP events. If a PS showcase event is as bad as this Xbox showcase event... we should start being concerned. Given how long it takes to make PS games. I'd be impressed if PS' next showcase (usually shown near the end of the year) was significantly better than this middling Xbox showcase. It's not like every PS showcase is a megaton either.
Sounds like something Pushsquare would write.
I do agree Sony needs to start to show their future plans on what they are releasing. I mean as a gamer I been eating good with console exclusives such Granblue Relink, FF7 and Stellar Blade as well as other multiplatform titles so I'm happy in that department personally.
I'm glad that MS while lot of it wasn't gameplay in parts least they showed for the first time in years they sort of had a identity of its own with their first party as well as their third party reveals despite not being a fan of MS. Which over a long period of time in the past they just want to put on things they can take from Sony and Nintendo.
When Sony announces games that have a while to go people get upset. When Sony announces a state of play filled with 3rd party focus people get upset. Sony announces tons of VR games that are exclusive, and info on games releasing soon people get upset.
Microsoft shows us 3 games they announced over the last 3 years with a bunch of 3rd party support and more expensive console revisions. People claim this what they want online?
Yall fried in the head
After reading all these comments, this is the correct one. No matter what they do, none of these gamers are pleased with it. These gamers want AAA announcements from first party every show. Even if the previous games haven't released yet, they still want something huge announced every time. And, they want Sony to spend millions of dollars on E3 hype to make them feel better for a few weeks. Even though Sony has released game after game or helped to publish another company's games or helped indies with support like with China Hero and the India project.
It's never enough for them as entitled and spoiled gamers looking for the next big thing every week as they blow through games without actually enjoying them looking for trophies.
Maybe they should talk more, but the truth is that half the games shown during the Xbox showcase are also on Playstation day one or PC. At the end of the day anyone that wants access to these games can get it.
The same could be said for sony though? Phantom Blade for example is coming to PC?
Again grading small PS State of Play event vs a full-fledged Xbox E3 showcase. PS told us they have no E3 and while that SoP didn't measure up well against this Xbox Showcase event. This Xbox Showcase event was in actuality pretty weak.
I'm either a spoiled little brat.
Or just a gamer. I go for the spoiled brat so that I don't have to let others label me as such.
It was a decent Showcase. But I didn't get my jaw dropped to the floor, either.
I don't know where this discrepancy comes from.
But it's simply astonishing that the perception of the Showcase ranges from "Oh my gawd! Best ever. I think I got pregnant. Legendary!" to me thinking "It was good, but why over-hyping it?"
I agree though: re-introducing the beloved Gears of War franchise truly was a great moment!
Many games will be releasing multiplatform. I don't take that and shoot with it against Microsoft. It's a good thing, especially for an IP like DOOM.
And many of the exclusive 1st party titles they've shown were already on the radar. I applaud Microsoft for that Showcase (except for the pricing of the the new XSX model), but man ... I reject this over-hyping alot. It's cringe.
And as for the never-ending topic of a Playstation Showcase goes:
Another discrepancy I don't know where this is coming from.
Sony's is having a decent 2024 software line-up, too.
And they were brave enough openly communicating "No major 1st party titles until March 2025".
We still have approx. 4½ years left on PS5.
Santa Monica, ND, Sucker Punch, Insomniac, etc. are VERY likely going to release at least one/another game for the PS5 until its lifecycle fades over to PS6.
Please: for the love of my hamster - just let them cook already! Why is that so difficult?
I really, really don't get it.
My the difference a day makes……Sony better hope the Xbox games do come to PlayStation after that rubbish state of play.
can I just say something you may be too young to remember
"Never, underestimate the power of playstation"
people acting like Sonys new games arn't 2nd wave, hahaha, the games we seen soo far, have all been cross-gen, we know what happens when sonys developers get a handle on the hardware, they maximise it to the core.
Sony is coasting on the success of PS5. They've become lazy and focused more on live service than single player games like they used to.
while I don't expect them to show anything until sometime next year. It would make sense to show a couple of games alongside the pro.
I don wonder why they don't atleast show third party trailers. Like ms had Assassins Creed and Dragon Age. Wouldn't sony want to be the ones showing this stuff, being the leader and all? Or is it just a waste of time marketing wise?
Remember Redfall being shown and being treated like 2nd coming of the baby jesus ?
Yeah super great Xbox show
In the meantime, nintendo laughs all the way to the bank. They just need to start their direct with «itsAMe maaaarioooo» or a blade swinging from a boy and its all win win win. 🎉😄 Seriously though, both Microsoft and Sony needs to up their game on first party games… its to much focus on AAA/high fidelity, need more focus on actual gameplay, mechanics that swooops people to the screen for hours.
Microsoft did a good job yesterday, but i felt like i saw the same game when i was looking at 5-7 different games, and all had focus on graphics
I have good news: the era of deep AAA storytelling and exploration has concluded. Now, we usher in the era of simple fun, where simplicity and enjoyment are the sole metrics for evaluating potential Game of the Year contenders.
Based on this year's offerings, it appears that Microsoft may once again miss the mark, as the 2004 offerings feature only complex exploration games or are too driven by storytelling and puzzles.
PS and Nintendo had no E3 presentation this year... Maybe this is why everyone is acting like Xbox had a megaton showcase?
I would love Sony to buy rockstar. I would love Sony to partially buy EA Games despite people saying there bad but they have gems of ips like Remake of command & conquer red alert 2 or bringing back Remaster of Medal of Honour to counter cod they have battlefield they have Gass bringing back Road Rash. But unfortunately it won't happen but hey ho. I do agree with foxtrot Sony really needs to get there crap together again otherwise back to the year 2006 again with useless CEOs that have no clue on what there doing
Fans want Sony not to announce any new games...The show was what I though it was going to be, not very good and awkward.
The amount of Single Player games coming to Xbox is now staggering. The majority of them seem to be first person adventure games but Sony got away with only 3rd person adventure games for a while so maybe the competition will finally heat up!
This is a huge reason why the statement "competition breeds excellence" is so important. I hope Sony took this to heart and makes their next State of Play impressive.
Also, so many of these Xbox games are available Day 1 on Game Pass, which Sony should look into improving their PSN offering too.
LMAO..this article......A few exclusives and a ton of multiplats....Thumbs up!!!
MS show was brutal, doom, gears of war, perfect dark, fable, dragon age, indiana jones etc. Meanwhile Astrobot was the only thing worth getting excited on PS5, they have to show some big guns at some point or they'll be in trouble.
This is silly. Take your time Sony. If you filter out the multiplatform games in the Xbox Showcase, they still haven't done much more than Sony for the future. All they have done is improve on prior years which was really not hard to do. This is just a case of "what have you done for me lately".
Sony Exclusives:
Astrobot
Silent Hill 2
Wolverine
Death Stranding 2
Phantom Blade Zero
Concord
Marathon
Fairgame$
Sword of the Sea
Xbox Exclusives:
Perfect Dark
Gears of War E-Day
Fable
State of Decay 3
South of Midnight
Indiana Jones
Avowed
Seriously, man, you should take a break and stop sounding hurt.
Relax, man, no one said Sony is dying; they just had a poor showing, and keep pushing live service games, along with some bumps internally, so they are taking a while to re-plan..shit like that takes time.
When you set a high bar, as Sony did, anything below "seems" unacceptable, especially when it's such a big departure from their tried-and-true formulas.
Now, with that said, trying to sully any good game conference is silly and makes you look desperate and silly.
I can't figure out why state of play's at this point are compared to annual showcases. Sony does them monthly/bi-monthly. They aren't intended to compete with this Xbox showcase, but hey take the W and wait another year+ for most of these games, how's Hellblade 2 the big showcase trailer from last year?
Bro, again relax.
It's not about comparing the showcase to the SoP; it's that Sony hasn't had ANY big showcases in a while, and before the most recent SOP, people were hyped, thinking they would see some good shit, and while Astro was standing out, that about it.
"but hey take the W and wait another year+ for most of these games, how's Hellblade 2 the big showcase trailer from last year?"
This comment clearly signifies your ridiculousness, fanboy drivel, and hurt. Many, Many of the games they showed were released this year; it is standard for companies to show games that are a bit out at every summer gaming event; it's not an MS thing as you are so terribly attempting to paint it.
Look, I can do the same thing; where is that Wolverine? Where is Metroid Prime 4? Where are Factions? We waited many years for it, and then it got canceled. You are trying too hard, and your bad argument is all over the place.
Once again, man, it's ok; it was a good showcase, and with games that are coming to PS as well, it's okay to put down the sword and shield, once in a while, you are pretty much warring with yourself.
It’s hype. I’ll take actual content because when they hyped Halo and Starfield the same way some of us learn and remember.
Half Xbox games will miss or be released too early. Hard to get excited with the track record they have. That’s real talk and anybody who thinks otherwise is ignoring reality.
I’ll take actual content and less talk, teasing games years away for hype, this is Xbox and for those who haven’t learned yet are setting themselves up for disappointment.
Woot?!
Do people forget there is Gamescom and Tokyo Game Show coming too?
I think PS have plenty of bang left in their pouch...
I couldn’t give two Fs about a showcase. All I care about is what is coming out in the next few months. What is coming 1 year or longer from now means nothing. Most of you already own the console so why does it matter? Are you going to sell your consoles if they don’t give you a good showcase soon?
It's two fold - you want to see a promising future, but you can't play game trailers nor is there any guarantee the games will turn out good. Regardless, it was nice to see these games for Microsoft becoming more of a reality even if many of them are a ways off.
Slow clap for Xbox, the showcase was awesome. Glad all of the games are coming same day to PC as well.
Showcases delay a game release 6-12 months, per preview.
Sony openly stated that they will be leveraging their established past consistency with output by not showcasing much at all until a game is 6 months of less from release. This is because games already take too long to develop without additional marketing delays.
For example, look how late of a reveal Spider-Man 2 got.
Xbox doesn’t have this luxury as an option, because they haven’t released anything in over a decade. They NEED to showcase to gain back the trust they have eroded.
Dust off your memory and be patient. Unlike Xbox, when Sony promises games, they have ALWAYS delivered.
That said, high five to Xbox for a great showcase.
Thing is, Sony kept their show to this year and Xbox stretched out into later next year and beyond. It's a tad difficult to compare and at this point people are just upset that their free show that advertises products wasn't exciting enough.
Yeah I love the whole “Xbox is dead” narrative and then they completely destroy Sony for the second straight year. I don’t understand how Sony got into this lull they’re in with no big games or games at all. It’s like they’re doing what Xbox did in the Xbox one gen.
What lull?
Did you miss that they have about 9 exclusives for their 2024 slate?
Overall 5 major titles have hit the system, what has the Xbox had?
Microsoft have had barren year after barren year, with a few scraps, Sony have tonnes in their back pocket they've yet to announce.
Did you forget that Housemarque, Bluepoint, Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Bend, Media Molecule and Sucker Punch haven't released anything for 3 years or more?
They have all talked about it taking 4 years plus to get their games out now, most are in the later part of 4 years into development on their projects and many have set up a 2nd or 3rd team while they released a game already this gen.
We know Santa Monica, Bend, Naughty Dog and Media Molecule have been developing new IPs.
Sony are right where they want to be, having let their devs put in the work and we'll certainly get to see reveals of a bunch of new games very soon.
***Did you forget that Housemarque, Bluepoint, Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Bend, Media Molecule and Sucker Punch haven't released anything for 3 years or more? ***
You say this like it's a good thing.
@Christopher: It is because they're all established studios, with great track records and they're under the leadership of Herman Hulst who was responsible for allowing the amazing freedom of creativity that allowed Guerrilla to put out a banger of a new IP with Horizon Zero Dawn.
Those studios have all been given time and they all put out games which are regarded well by the big audiences that play them.
Sony has games cooking, that's clearly apparent and they're letting their devs working on them, until they're ready to show off.
What else does Microsoft have cooking besides what we've already seen?
*** What else does Microsoft have cooking besides what we've already seen? ***
WHAT? Seriously?
What else does Microsoft cooking other than:
Perfect Dark
Avowed
DOOM: The Dark Ages (also going to PS5, but made by Microsoft studio)
State of Decay 3
Fallout 76 Updates (another crossplatform game)
Sea of Thieves Season 13 (another crossplatform game)
Starfield DLC
New World of Warcraft expansion
South of Midnight
Age of Mythology Retold
Diablo 4 Expansion (another crossplatform game)
Fable
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
Gears of War: E-Day
What a ridiculous question. Sure, Sony has Destiny 2 and Helldivers II with news on Concord and Until Dawn port to PS5. But are you seriously going to hold those up like they're equal to the list of games MS just showed off? Seriously?
Let's not let Sony get away with the same thing people criticized Microsoft for doing.
@Christopher:
Work on your reading comprehension, I said besides what was shown in this "showcase", as in what Microsoft owned studios have had cooking in the oven for over 3 years.
You deflect because you have no answer.
Sony has released 5 games already this year, we're not even half way through yet and they have 4 more coming this year, some from their studios, some from partners, that aren't coming to XBox.
What does Microslft have releasing or that's released in 2024?
Sony also have 9 Studios which are deep in development on new games, first party, PS5 exclusives, many of those studios have multiple teams and all have been making those games, which are yet to be revealed for the first time.
This Xbox showcase had about 29 games, 20 of which are multiplats and coming to PS5 too and they aren't unique to XBox.
We have no clue when Gears E-Day or Perfect Dark or State of Decay are coming.
Perfect Dark looked bad, very bland, basic gameplay, with no interesting gameplay loops.
Despite Avowed being announced as a 2024 release, it has no release date.
Doom is coming to PS5, same goes for the Fallout 76 DLC.
When is South of Midnight coming?
The Starfield stuff is just DLC, sure it gives the game a Prey vibe, but Starfield has also been rumoured to be coming PS5, along with many of the currently slated to be exclusive Microsoft Studios offerings.
Where were the newly announced New IPs exclusive to XBox?
Hardly any of these games are coming this year.
@GhostScholar:
How many of Sony's 2024 exclusive PS5 lineup are GAAS?
Last I checked it was 2 games, out of 9 releases.
From job listings about new PS First Party developed games we don't know much about only a few are GAAS, but you know what? They are catering to that genre, alongside their single player titles, within a bunch of genres.
Where is the evidence that GAAS will be their main focus?
Didn't they destroy TLOU Online because ND didn't want to focus all of their attention towards online multiplayer?
ND are working on multiple new IPs that are Single Player Focused.
Same goes for most of their studios and they've built out new ones for them service based games.
Nice try though.
*** Work on your reading comprehension, I said besides what was shown in this "showcase", as in what Microsoft owned studios have had cooking in the oven for over 3 years. ***
Work on yours. My whole post was to say your question of 'other than in the showcase' is preposterous. Preposterous. You're setting up a goal post by ignoring a large number of games they just told us they were working on and proved it. Ridiculous.
We slk know sony going release a big game before the end of the yr and for me they have released some great games already this yr iam not defending fanboys on either side ,but the hate on this site for xbox is just not good.u can't deny facts donys yhe biggest selling console ,but that dosent mean u have to hate xbox iown both love both
A bunch of those games from the Xbox show are multiplatform and coming to the PS5 also but yea they either need to bring bangers to these showcases are just don't have them.
I'm a long time Sony fan. Never owned a single XBox, but my platform of choice is PC. My PS4 always complimented my PC as the console I enjoyed when a release was sub-optimal on PC or exclusive to the PS4. Now, I don't care about a single title coming out on PS5 because there is nothing holding my interest. FF16 was the last nail in the coffin when they killed of Sid faster than you could get into the nitty-gritty. The biggest announcement I want from Sony is a PC release of Bloodborne, but it's just a pipe dream now. It'll never happen.
People thought a remaster, let alone a remake of Demon's Souls would never happen, yet Bluepoint Games made one for PS5, there have been rumours that they could be creating something related to Bloodborne.
This whole Narrative about that showcase being the second coming of Xbox is laughable!
Most of the games were already announced years ago, they revealed no new IPs from their internal Microsoft owned studios, Doom is coming to PS5 day one, as well as Flintlock, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Atomfall and Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.
Sony had a banger of a State of Play, showing Astro Bot for the first time, Concord's gameplay looks great, PS5 is first to get Black Myth, then there's Silent Hills 2 Remake which looks phenomenal.
It's like everyone has forgotten Sony's had a stellar year, with Hell Divers 2 being a massive success, FF7: Rebirth, Rise of The Ronin, Pacific Drive, Stellar Blade, Foamstars (a bit of a missed step).
By my count PS5 has had 9 games which aren't coming to Xbox or Switch this year.
How many has Xbox had? Also out of the games shows how many will launch and have release dates for this year that are nailed down?
Sony hasn't even had a showcase to show much besides Death Stranding 2 and Wolverine, we know they have about 9 studios which have been busy making either new IPs or sequels for over 3 years already, most of those have been quiet for over 4 years.
People never learn when it comes to Sony, they've been holding back more than ever and we're already inundated with more games than people can possibly play in an entire year when you factor in all of the great indies and multiplats on the system, yet they've packed the generation with amazing exclusives so far and we haven't even had a massive blowout of PS5 dedicated releases yet.
It's very likely Phantom Blade Zero, Little Devil's Inside are coming this year.
We're also getting Phil Spencer stating outright that he doesn't see any point in keep the Xbox games locked to the Series and PC alone, most of the exclusives that have either released on Xbox One/Series already will get PS4/5 and Switch versions, which likely haven't happened yet because they don't have the resources to have made ports for those other platforms.
Looking for a new racing wheel or sim set-up? MOZA Racing have got your back as they look to revolutionise the racing scene with their MOZA R3 Wheel and Pedals. And the best bit? It's Designed for Xbox!
On a perfect environment it "nearly" ran flawlessly.
Stadia doesn't have to be "flawless" to succeed. Why do you think McDonalds is the most profitable eatery on the planet despite not serving real food?
A combination of affordability, convenience, and accessibility are more important that quality...PERIOD.
"Near" flawless lol🤣🤣🤣 🤣🤣🤣
