Secret sauce is a good thing when it is materialized as advertised. I do believe cloud computing has potential (still not a fan of being always connected), but that is years down the road. As secret sauce for Xbox One during the Xbox One's lifetime, it is largely effete.

I don't know what Lisa Su means to suggest, but as always... we'll see. Allegedly, Navi was created with Sony's input.

Frankly, I'm still waiting for the OS footprint to shrink so games can utilize those resources now.

PS4 had those extra compute units and the GDDR5 for secret sauce. It was originally speculated for 4GB as well, so they delivered on multiple fronts.

MS's secret sauce was ESRAM which became a pain and the power of the cloud which never came through.

PS5 is looking to have the 3D audio and SSD for a start, and whatever else AMD is working on with them, so the sauce there is most definitely real.

It's good when it's being tauted by the manufacturer of the chip. Not from some fanboy or a certain company that has a long history of over promising and underdelivering. It carrys weight with a Playstation product because Sony literally always delivers. So yes, this is something to be excited for.

Secret Sauce is only good when it is actually real. and if you notice, No one from Sony made that claim. That was a claim by the Chip manufacturer. As for "other" claims of "secret sauce" you may of heard from in the past...well, that was more like a way to engage potential customers NOT to buy a competing brand with the hollow promise of something better coming out from them. "Them" being MS, and they have a 100% record of failed promises and grand claims that turned out to be vaporware.

That's not that far out of the realm of possibility. A lot of CELL tech and principals are used in modern GPU's, and even somewhat in modern CPU's. Both Sony and IBM are making money off the patent rights for those things, as Sony co-developed the CELL chips. Since it's likely to be an APU again, it could have SPE type GPU compute integrated in. Would mean quite a boost to processing power, which is flexible enough to be used for graphics data too. I'm not sure if it'd be any faster than regular GPU compute, unless the SPE stuff was clocked at a higher speed.

I doubt it'll be structured like the PS3's CELL though, which was a bit different than what I'm talking about. I'm also not sure how much AMD itself went into CELL principals themselves, so who knows. but it is going to be a custom designed processor. Would be interested if it happens, because developers can't say they don't understand the tech anymore.

Because of who coined the term in relation to Xbox, and that such things were going to make it better than the PS4. It became more a meme to reference how the next big thing from MS was just another pointless distraction that really wasn't going to do anything to help them. MS never used the term itself that I know of, but it was their attitude towards their new technologies which gave meaning to the meme.

In this case, I think it's just a CEO of AMD who is saying it without realizing the negative connotations that came from it, but wanting to say that it has something that will make it unique....which is essentially what the term is supposed to mean.

1080p is really the exception, and if then those double the frame rate (Rage 2) or run much better than the standard version. At 1440p, but that is the bare minimum in most cases. The Showcases run much higher, and the CB (full) 2160p looks gorgeous (NZD, Days Gone and others). It was a mere upgrade for $100 - my trade in cost me $160 and it was totally worth it. You realize this even more so if you also play those games on a regular PS4. It is pretty apparent how much cleaner and more stable the picture is. Is a next gen I would shell out another $400? No, but as a trade in for and if you are in for $300 or $400 (until now at least) I would still have gone with the Pro. The Pro never claimed to be a "Next gen" console, though.

It's only matter of time before input lag on cloud gaming is negligible and when ISPs provide unlimited data (mine does already in Ireland), then cloud gaming will take over.
