All PlayStation Classics Available On PSN

From PlayStation Universe: "With the PlayStation Classic coming on December 3, 2018, we at PSU have decided to compile a list of PlayStation 1 Classic titles available to download on your PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, and PlayStation Vita through the PlayStation Network."

giovanealex2030d ago

Nah. You are out of luck, friend.

naruga2030d ago

Minimox162030d ago

@Naruga
Im with you bro, 3 its the best of BoF, i dont understand why its not in the store but it its the PSP version, but will i play that PSP version in my vita and in my Vita TV for Big screen.

NecrumOddBoy2030d ago (Edited 2030d ago )

Damn, I saw the title and thought "finally on PS4!." LoL, jeez, come on Sony.

Christopher2030d ago (Edited 2030d ago )

Just FYI, you can get that list with PS2 games as well from here: https://store.playstation.c...

And, if you want specific for PS4: https://store.playstation.c...

Edit: If you're looking for some classics to play on PS4, I personally would suggest Rogue Galaxy, Wild Arms 3, Psychonatus, Dark Cloud 1 & 2, Max Payne (yes, even with the dream sequences), Destroy All Humans 1 & 2. Have heard good things about Jak trilogy and Red Faction 2.

Fonso1282030d ago

If I can play FF7&9 why not add more PS1 games. Why can't I play Ape Escape, Wild Arms, MGS, jumping flash, and legend of Dragoon on my PS4. Sony much like Nintendo suck at re releasing their classics.

Christopher2030d ago (Edited 2030d ago )

Because Sony doesn't invest in a team that updates those to be played on PS4. FF7 & 9 were updated to run on PS4 by Square, not by Sony or their respective IP holders. It also would require some licensing upgrades as those games are only licensed to run on those respective devices from the IP holders.

Please they should unlock it for ps4. Had so many on my ps3.

autobotdan2030d ago

Don't give up your Playstation 3

Christopher2030d ago

They would need to rebuild the container software emulators for them. I'm hoping they're working on doing that.

rainslacker2030d ago

It would be nice if they did. It seems like such a waste to not capitalize on the sale of those games. Would be cool if they redid some with trophies like they did the PS2 classics for PS4. Apparently its not that hard to implement, but does require publishers making a bit of effort. However, it can be outsourced fairly inexpensively from what I understand, and the games tend to sell more than your straight up emulated game.

@Chris

Seems like a stright up emulator at the system level would work for PS1 games. Publisher would have to approve their use on PS4 though....which like MS BC, I'm sure many would since it doesn't cost them anything, an there is a chance to make money off it.

Christopher2030d ago (Edited 2030d ago )

It would work, but likely not preferable to today's desires. I think emulating on a case-by-case like MS does would be best as you could get them to run at 60fps and possibly even some software emulation for higher resolutions. Just a general wrapper has resulted in some bugs in the past and likely to continue now. I think they can invest a little more time and effort to ensure it works and do what it takes to make sure it's forward compatible as well.

rainslacker2030d ago

It would still be case by case. Publishers would still have to approve their use on PS4.

This is simply because those games were licensed to run on a particular system. Something Sony got around by including hardware in the past, essentially making it run on said system....at least from a technical legal standpoint.

The PS2 emulator does improve games, but requires some work on the publishers part to enable, so it's not a one fit solution. But they don't necessarily have to do that kind of thing for the BC releases. It makes more sense on the classic releases with added trophy support, considering they're asking price is higher.

However you are right, a general wrapper can be more problematic, since writing to machine code can mix things up, and the wrappers may not always understand certain system calls.

More likely scenario if they went that route is that a general wrapper would come, and bugs would be worked out when they cropped up for individual games. That's what they tried to do with PS2 emulation on PS3, after the removal of the hardware, but I think it became a bit cumbersome, and to my knowledge, the publisher was responsible for it on the PS2 games on PS3....which most didn't want to bother with.

Anyhow, as of now, it's mostly just hypothetical. Sony would have to cement an application for me to really say how I think it should be done overall. There are things I'd like to see if they enable it, but Sony is no stranger to BC, so I'm sure they can find a working solution should they so desire.

Christopher2030d ago (Edited 2030d ago )

***It would still be case by case. Publishers would still have to approve their use on PS4.***

You're talking licensing, I'm talking software emulation.

I already understand licensing, which isn't what was being discussed here. But I mentioned it in another comment before this one above: "It also would require some licensing upgrades as those games are only licensed to run on those respective devices from the IP holders."

***The PS2 emulator does improve games,***

Those improvements were made by Sony, not a stand-alone emulator. The games from PS2 on PS4 were all hand-updated for the system a la Xbox One X enhancements for older games on it. Which includes adding trophy support.

To support this, I present: https://blog.us.playstation...

"Updated Features For PS4
Fans of the original game will appreciate the updated features in the PS4 version. Characters, environments, and cinematics have been given a high-definition upgrade, and both the original game’s display and more modern widescreen display are supported. Changing between the two display modes can be done at any time in-game, but certain menus are fixed. A screen scroll feature has been added for widescreen display that allows players to see more of the fixed screens than ever before as the camera now scrolls up and down based on your movement.

This release of Onimusha: Warlords also allows players to move using the analog stick, which should improve movement accuracy and accessibility, especially in a game that is centered around combat. This was the same treatment that Resident Evil and Resident Evil 0 had for their release on PS4. For those who still prefer using the directional inputs like in the original game, that option is also open!

In the original game, Easy Mode was unlocked only after failing a specific battle a set amount of times. In this version, Easy Mode is unlocked from the start of the game for players who may find the adventure too difficult or want to enjoy the story. In Easy Mode, enemies are easier to kill and appear less often. However, you cannot change difficulty once you begin, so select wisely!"

All of that is done by Sony, not emulated. And it updates the game on multiple levels for a modern market and modern devices.

***But they don't necessarily have to do that kind of thing for the BC releases.***

They don't have to do anything, but IMHO, they should. The consumer deserves to have the best and not more reasons to invest in alternative piece of plastic that aren't tied to the centralized ecosystem already present as well as being unable to take advantage of superior hardware in which they have already invested.

rainslacker2030d ago

My bad then on the misunderstanding. In that case, I feel you are right.

My understanding on the emulation improvements is that the way those things were implemented were within the emulator itself. The game cited in the blog looks to be more work done on the game itself to increase textures and add widescreen support. However, since many PS2 classics do indeed add widescreen support, I suppose that some level of developer interaction would have to be implemented.

I don't know if this needs to be the case though, as there are general improvements which can be made to smoothing or simply tesselation of the polygons that already exist. This in itself can cause some oddities at times if done without concern for how the end result looks.

And yeah, I agree that they should probably try to make BC as good as it can be if they decide to do it. It makes sense to make the software as desirable as possible so people will have more reason to buy it. I don't know if every game warrants such effort though, and requiring it may actually hinder its adoption. Something that just allows for a basic wrapper would open up the ability to put more games up.

Cryptcuzz2030d ago

I certainly would have bought a few of the classics again on the PS4.

Shame you can't get tekken 3 or Ape Escape on PSN those games were my childhood.

moomoo3192030d ago

I think i saw ape escape 2 on ps now but thats it

Vanfernal2030d ago

You can get Ape Escape 2 on the PS4.

bluefox7552030d ago

Why? Aren't more options a good thing?

Godmars2902030d ago

You need to explain this...

ILostMyMind2030d ago (Edited 2030d ago )

Stop defending Sony on this, guys. There is no reasonable reason for not allow PS classic games (except PS3) on PS4. Sony should be ashamed and you too.

crazyCoconuts2030d ago

"for not allow"? PS4 is a different architecture than PS3. They'd have to port it to PS4 add trophies etc. It takes some work (even with an emulator) it's not just "allowing" it, right?

DarXyde2030d ago

crazyCoconuts,

ILostMyMind just said except PS3.

Sony can definitely get PS2 games running on PS4 since they have an emulator that runs them and PSOne can be emulated via brute force. It's, what, about 50x more powerful than PSOne? Pretty sure it can do it.

So I agree that it's pretty indefensible.

rainslacker2030d ago (Edited 2030d ago )

Question is, why is Sony not allowing it?

People say its so they can resell their games. But how many games actually get remasters or classic releases on the store? Not many. And those remasters and classic releases would likely still sell, because anyone willing to buy an old game, is likely to be enough of a fan to buy a remaster or classic release.

Some say its so they can promote PSNow, but since there is only a tiny fraction of those games on PSNow, I don't see how that's the case. Even if people had PSNow, they would maybe be more willing to buy those games if they were available digitally....at least if you believe what's been said about game pass promoting new game purchases.

So, it seems like it'd be more lucrative to allow these games to run on PS4...with publisher approval...because then Sony would get a cut of the store sales, and for their own games, they'd get the revenue of the sale of the game.

I don't see any technical reason why PS1 game won't run on the PS4, so there has to be a reason, but I don't think the reasons for it are what people believe, and as such, the defense may make sense since the reasons people are upset about it don't line up with logical conclusions.

crazyCoconuts2030d ago

Yes, they should be ashamed for compiling a list of games they consider to be classics. How dare they?

Steam Account Transfer Via Will on Death is Not Permitted, Valve Confirms

In case you were curious, a Steam account transfer via will is not permitted according to an official response from Valve.

anast17h ago

The games are theirs. People just pay to ride the ride.

Skuletor56m ago

Would be nice if the article's writer looked into and reported whether other digital game libraries could be transferred over via will (Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo, EGS, EA app, GOG, Ubisoft Connect, Rockstar Launcher etc) instead of this half-baked piece but it's probably the same for all of them anyway

Kornholic41m ago

This seems like a way bigger issue than mandatory PSN account linking for PlayStation games.

So where is the outcry?

Skuletor19m ago

It's not like PlayStation is doing any different.

"You may not sell, buy, trade, or transfer your Online ID, Account or any personal access to PSN Services through any means or method, including by use of web sites."

NotoriousWhiz12m ago(Edited 12m ago)

It's not like your account just stops working when you die. Include your email, account id, and password in the will (including the password to your email) and your survivors should have no problem using your games.

For the first time in a long time I have a hard time feeling excited for these events. Maybe it's because of all these massive lay offs and closures there hasn't exactly been good news since the start of the year.

Maybe come next week I'll get a little more excited but I dunno I just can't get too excited right now

thorstein11h ago

Maybe it will be an indie showcase.

Cacabunga5h ago

Cancelling e3 and introducing some ridiculous events..
Times have changed.. to the worse

Lightning774h ago(Edited 4h ago)

Back then it was very exciting, great looking trailers, on stage live gameplay where yes things can and have went wrong but that's how we knew it was a real games being played instead of curated footage extra doctored up that didn't even represent the actual game half the time. Games would release 6 months to a year max not 3 years later.

I miss past E3's even the goofiness like Giant enemy crab or Riiiidge Raceeer. Xbox and Kinect glitching Nintendo's craziness. Again it was real, these days there so protective, clean, doctored sets, where nothing can absolutely go wrong. Too strict and professional with heavy PR babble with buzzwords that mean nothing. Being professional is not bad but when it's fake and corporate heavy where you're made to buy into the words rather than the game, that's how you know it's not real.

Now SFG is just sizzle reeling all the games at once. Plus past SGF events haven't been that great either. Maybe that's not Geoffs fault but the pubs and devs are simply never ready to show anything and have to wait. This gen we've been waiting and waiting for these games.

Plus lay offs as I Mentioned. I dunno Geoff needs to do what made E3 great back then, get funding support and do live stage gameplay he has the support and so why not? Pubs and devs need to do their own thing at the event again. No more doctored bull crap with PR diarrhea trying to sell the game show us with a controller in your hand instead of making empty promises.

Rant over.

Cacabunga4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

Lightning

I will never forget the pre-e3 one year where Kojima was teasing MGS Rising.. and Peace Walker.

Such an incredible period where studios enjoyed what they were doing and teasing their work weeks before the event.

Nowadays is half baked games, cross gen titles, useless mid gen upgrades. There is no hype anymore.
Last great show I remember is the PS EXPERIENCE maybe 3 or 4 years ago in December

gleepot4h ago

Maybe it's because Keighley sucks and never puts on good showcases.

Lightning772h ago

They aren't geoffs games he's not makin it. Though you're half right, he has the stage and events and controls the pace, how the games are shown and presented. If I was him I would have devs have real gameplay with a stage like how E3 used to be.

No more of this curated pre done footage that we've had in the past 4 years.

Actually before that they've been doing that format for awhile. Cyber Punk being the biggest culprit of that format because you can easily deceive and lie to ppl.

Yeah Geoff is half to blame

isarai8h ago

Is it just me or is there little to no buzz or marketing leading up to this compared to previous SGF?

monkey6024h ago

Because they've been consistently boring for the last couple of years. Hard to get worked up for it now

bRuud835h ago

Where is Sony? Still no news about the next Playstation showcase.

VR25h ago

It'll be June sometimes no doubt, I'm guessing the Saturday 10th the day after Xbox showcase or maybe sometime the following week

Lightning772h ago

Hopefully early next week at this point they are signed to SGF so they'll be there.

I also said in another post it's rumored to be a State Of Play now. The only AAA's I can see being announced now is Ghost 2 and Bends New game.

I can't see Santa Monica's New IP or ND New IP being announced. I can see GG being there announcing leggo Horizon, Zero Dawn remake or remaster, maybe the LS horizon game.

Skuletor2h ago

After the way they rudely hurried people off the stage at The Game Awards, I won't bother watching any of the streams for this. I'll just checkout out a few game trailers on Youtube after they're uploaded there.

[Exclusive] Xbox Reaches Agreement With Batman: Arkham Trilogy Creators For A New AAA Game

Ex-Rocksteady directors' Hundred Star is collaborating with Xbox Game Studios Publishing for its first-ever AAA game.

Lightning7713h ago(Edited 13h ago)

Highly doubt it'll be an actual Batman game that IP belongs to WB Games along with other DC property.

They're making an action adventure game. IMO I think it needs to be another Marvel game despite MS already have Blade as that action Marvel game. Dead Pool? Punisher?

Realistically it'll probably be a new IP entirely.

The_Hooligan11h ago

I agree with you. I think I'll be a brand new IP. Now it could be a superhero themed, kind of like infamous. Speaking of which, Suckerpunch needs to make one after Ghost 2.

neutralgamer199211h ago

would love a infamous collection for ps5/pc

Lightning7711h ago

I definitely think it'll be super hero themed game 100%. Something MS needs in their portfolio.

ThinkThink9h ago

Please, no more super hero games.

PhillyDonJawn8h ago(Edited 8h ago)

Dead Pool or Punisher would be amazing!!!
Don't tease me like that man lol. I see them making a new IP that's like an arkham knight clone

Dirty_Lemons4h ago

I loved the old Punisher game back in the day. Those executions never got old.

porkChop3h ago

I don't think it needs to be Marvel. It needs to be a totally new IP. That's what Rocksteady should have done after Arkham City. They've pigeonholed themselves as DC devs.

MIDGETonSTILTS1711h ago(Edited 11h ago)

I hope these devs needed support to start/finish (like Stalker 2), vs are basically done with the game but wanted to secure an exclusivity-bonus because they know Xbox needs a system seller (like Titanfall).

It’s a bit strange that they’d rather invest in this game than Tangoworks’ TWO canceled projects; or just trust a single dev from their existing massive stable of talent to emerge with a system-seller themselves anytime soon.

Either way, it is just cool that we’ll likely get a new IP from the geniuses behind the Arkham Trilogy. I wonder how creative they’ll get now that they aren’t married to an established franchise.

darthv7211h ago

This is about the former co-founders of Rocksteady and their new studio. So naturally it makes people think its Batman related with the way its worded, even though its not.

-Foxtrot11h ago

Exclusive? Sure

This year alone Microsoft has changed their plans so much with Xbox regarding multiplatform releases as they step closer to just being a full blown third party publisher and it's only been 4-5 months, imagine where we'll be once this game is finished. It will be a completely different landscape.

ThinkThink8h ago

I don't think MS will ever go completely full 3rd party with all of their games. I can see them looking towards expanding their own mobile store and moving into Mac as ways of expanding. I'm sure ms will bring more exclusives over to ps and nintendo, but I don't think it'll be as many games as you think it will. I hope I'm wrong.

Lightning778h ago

The ever contradictions thoughts and actions of MS definitely says otherwise MS changed up so much on the past 6 months of the year I lost count.

Though I'm more declined to believe they also won't go full 3rd party also.

But.

This year they're having Renaissance a super bowl of gaming with Gamepass this year. BO6, older ABK games, Avowed, Indy and other 3rd party exclusives all to grow and expand gamepass. If these games don't grow the service or grow only a little bit. Then you can fully expect MS to hit the red button and put everything everywhere. Satya will have full Xbox take over doing what he wants from that point on next year.

It's up to Xbox to advertise these games and gamepass in the next 6 months or so get the word out.

Profchaos7h ago

The more the news evolves the more I'm inclined to believe we will see MS embrace full third party status but not call it third party in their word soup ways.

It will be Xbox everywhere plays best on a Xbox.

Next gen Xbox is rumoured to be a reference design similar to the 3d0 where any company can make and sell it.

If you're offloading hardware costs to a third party yet still profiting from the games then you've cut out losses on the hardware you still have a store front that users can use and still make a 30 percent cut on that.

Your games sell for a profit on PS and Nintendo platforms and on Xbox reference hardware along with PC

You lose .kney on DLC and games sold on a competitor storefront they are seemingly already comfortable with this.

The ms bean counters are coming for the ROI that was promised they don't care if they kill the brand as it stands Xbox was never a profitable business it was always just done for reputation

PhillyDonJawn7h ago

@Lightning the would end the console then. No one would buy Xbox over PS at that point cause now you get both with just a PS. If GP flop for them, Logically, rolling back on GP would be the smarter than to do. No more day 1 title. Less quality titles. They'd lose subs but people would go back to buying the games.

Lightning776h ago

@Philly They could scale back gamepass put Indies only, AAA 1st party games coming 4 to 6 months from release. The thing is MS will have to tell their fans to buy their games again and that's gonna take years and years to condition them to buy games again. MS will lose money from that also. They'll lose out on gamepass revenue, lose out on games sales because their fans don't buy as many games anymore.

I can't see them scaling back or axing gamepass it does make them allot of money, they just want more money from it. They're not gonna condition their fans to start buying games either.

As I said they'll go full 3rd party and yes you ate right, if they do that then there would be no reason to buy the next Xbox. I know j won't be, you better hope the next 6 months they advertise the games and GP there little hearts out because this could be it.

Spawn (as well as master chief) are the only characters I associate with Xbox. Are there more I can’t remember?

Gears is another big game one.

Marcus, Dom, Cole Train. And I can’t remember the fourth.

Also the chick from gears 5 seems to pop up on all their modern advertising I can't remember her name either.

Cars also feature heavily in a Xbox ad it's always master chief front and centre with cars and maybe a gears character hanging around
