"The “all digital future” that companies like Electronic Arts and Microsoft were touting around years ago was never a pro-consumer avenue in the world of electronic entertainment." OneAngryGamer says.
A schedule for all of the currently announced game conferences in June 2024, including the Summer Game Fest 2024 date and times.
For the first time in a long time I have a hard time feeling excited for these events. Maybe it's because of all these massive lay offs and closures there hasn't exactly been good news since the start of the year.
Maybe come next week I'll get a little more excited but I dunno I just can't get too excited right now
Is it just me or is there little to no buzz or marketing leading up to this compared to previous SGF?
After the way they rudely hurried people off the stage at The Game Awards, I won't bother watching any of the streams for this. I'll just checkout out a few game trailers on Youtube after they're uploaded there.
Ex-Rocksteady directors' Hundred Star is collaborating with Xbox Game Studios Publishing for its first-ever AAA game.
Highly doubt it'll be an actual Batman game that IP belongs to WB Games along with other DC property.
They're making an action adventure game. IMO I think it needs to be another Marvel game despite MS already have Blade as that action Marvel game. Dead Pool? Punisher?
Realistically it'll probably be a new IP entirely.
I hope these devs needed support to start/finish (like Stalker 2), vs are basically done with the game but wanted to secure an exclusivity-bonus because they know Xbox needs a system seller (like Titanfall).
It’s a bit strange that they’d rather invest in this game than Tangoworks’ TWO canceled projects; or just trust a single dev from their existing massive stable of talent to emerge with a system-seller themselves anytime soon.
Either way, it is just cool that we’ll likely get a new IP from the geniuses behind the Arkham Trilogy. I wonder how creative they’ll get now that they aren’t married to an established franchise.
This is about the former co-founders of Rocksteady and their new studio. So naturally it makes people think its Batman related with the way its worded, even though its not.
Exclusive? Sure
This year alone Microsoft has changed their plans so much with Xbox regarding multiplatform releases as they step closer to just being a full blown third party publisher and it's only been 4-5 months, imagine where we'll be once this game is finished. It will be a completely different landscape.
Spawn (as well as master chief) are the only characters I associate with Xbox. Are there more I can’t remember?
The VP of Marketing at Boosteroid revealed that the company is in talks with major publishers to secure exclusive games on the service.
So they're adding Skull and Bones to their service? That doesn't seem exciting at all lol.
Yep D move EA that's why I'll never go digital because of companies like you that make it hard to trust you crooks.
Physical > Digital
That’s why I’ll always prefer the option of having both physical and digital distribution available to me
These are the inherent dangers/risks of going completely digital... but it’s for any form digital media really. I mean how many of use have gone completely digital in terms of music? Or even movies?
Games, at some point, will be a nearly all on a digital format. It’s inevitable. I have yet to see a reason why we aren’t headed towards that future. Personally it’s not the fear of losing games like this unfortunate person did, but the lack of ability to trade back games that keeps me from going all digital. However, I trust a Sony, Nintendo, Steam, Microsoft, Apple, Google, Amazon, or Vudu to maintain access to forms of the digital media I’ve purchased over the past decade. Generally speaking I believe you a higher chance of being hacked vs what happened to this persons EA account. Now an EA/Origin account... I feel like that’s a buyer beware* story waiting to happen.
I hate to say it, but i'm embracing all digital. I mean come on, my music and movies are digital. Like gumby's list, in the event of fire, accidents, crazy ex sabotaging, kids breaking or selling your games, and just the general aspects of growing up and being an adult with a family; the pros of all digital are slowly rising in my view. However, it strongly depends on the COMPANY. I like Microsoft's commitment to bc and forward compatibility. It gives me a peace of mine knowing my purchase is playable on the next system and such. Sony will most likely follow suit. Nintendo does it's own thing. But I can't for the life of me wonder why anyone would use EA Origin. Even so, I think physical media should always remain an option. I will always buy Atlus and Japanese games in their physical formats. And take Spyro the dragon, for example. Despite me originally planning to buy the game digitally, I refuse to support a company or developer that does not offer the entire game on disc for my fellow gamers.
