They were called GRAND THEFT AUTO Vice City and GRAND THEFT AUTO San Andreas. It isn't the numbering that is important and part of the branding but rather those words GRAND THEFT AUTO.

Although we are in a new world as far as backward compatibility (since the consoles all use x86), so I suppose it could launch on next gen and also be playable on “old gen”. Putting that aside there’s absolutely no way on earth rockstar would release something as big as GTA6 as a launch title. There simply could not possibly be enough consoles in the hands of enough consumers to justify it. Even if 10 million systems immediately sold, which has never happened before, it wouldn’t justify it. The most likely scenario is that it will release right as the current gen is dying out and then a few years later they will remaster them for new consoles.
