PlayStation boss 'surprised' by Xbox Scorpio announcement

Andrew House says PlayStation 4 Neo console isn’t ready to show off yet and Sony will wait until there is enough content to illustrate its benefits

Good on Sony. Show games deal with hardware some other time.

Fin_The_Human2908d ago

Sony showed some awesome games.

Spider Man and God of War are on my most hype games list right now since I am a huge Spider Man fan and love Insomniac games.

God of War is a beast which I need not to explain why.

Death2908d ago

Spider-man looks like a must buy. God of War looked great as it always does.

darthv722908d ago

Given that the Neo is supposed to be able to play existing PS4 games with improvements... how do we know that what we saw wasn't essentially Neo mode PS4 games? Obviously there is no way to tell just by watching or even playing but there is a chance that the hardware running the demos is possibly Neo-esq in nature.

I'm good with that if it's true. It shows what I will be getting when it does release. so much potential.

freshslicepizza2908d ago (Edited 2908d ago )

Sony now knows it will be a hard sell to get consumers to buy a more powerful PS4 and question the performance factor for psvr. Notice the remark about how it's about optimization while you you have people like Todd Howard talk about needing more power for fallout 4 vr. That's why Sony is stuck with smaller games like batman vr because the PS4 can't handle open world games needing those high frame rates for vr

Arkam has great graphics but psvr would need then to scale the game back. So instead we get a shallow add on only for psvr. Same thing with battlefront

BlackTar1872908d ago

Moldy trying so hard folks give this man a girl scout cookie...................Hell give this man an entire box of girl scout cookies.

Nitrowolf22908d ago

Says open world can't support vr on ps4, excuse me, did you miss ff15? I know it looks like it plays like trash, cause you know a first person shooter gameplay in a ff game, but point standing it's possible.

Todd Howard talking about needing more power is th3 example you'll use? You are talking about a guy who lies for a living and also is part of a company that poorly optimizes even their pc ports.

S2Killinit2908d ago

Moldybread back at it again with the white vans.

Come on moldy give it up.

donthate2908d ago (Edited 2908d ago )

Sony did show a lot of great games, but I do wonder when those games will release. Keep in mind the current next big release, The Last Guardian, took almost a decade. It was announced for PS3, and we are at the cusp of new consoles again.

The real reason why Sony isn't talking about their next console is two-fold, they want you to keep buying their existing one, because Neo/PS4K isn't going to be available for another number of months. Second, it's not good PR, because it is most definitely going to look like PS VR isn't going to perform well on PS4 and they were forced to introduce Neo/PS4K.

The other kicker though, is that the people Sony is trying to court with the PS4K/Neo, the high end/core gamers that are early adopters want the best of the best. They are now likely waiting on Scorpio, and this is why MS announced it. MS basically played Sony's strategy against Sega Dreamcast with the PS2. Announce that yours is going to be so much better, if you just wait a tad little longer. We know how it went. Even more telling is Andrew House discussion of PC gamers. Well, Xbox is now encompassing PC gamers. Play Anywhere is at the heart of this.

MS just made a genius move that might actually turn the battle around!

UnHoly_One2908d ago

Nitrowolf they said the VR mode on FF15 was some special mode where you do some of the same big fights from the game or something like that.

It is not the whole open world game in VR.

Errorist762908d ago

What darthv72 says is true...it's pretty obvious most of Sony's games were running on NEO, as most of MS's conference was running on PCs.

Muzikguy2908d ago (Edited 2908d ago )

@BlackTar187

I heard that for the first time ever marijuana sales outsold Girl Scout cookie sales in the USA. Girl Scout cookies indeed lol

@darth

No. The games shown were on the PS4 spec. Could you imagine the backlash come release if it were otherwise? You should be looking at those games thinking "wow, I'll get to play that" instead of "f*ck, I need another system just to play that. They lied to me..."

@donthate

Wtf?? I'd say that MS talking about the Scorpio AND the slim are bad for Microsoft. Sony keeping hush on the Neo is a good thing. Where were the games for Scorpio? How much hype did the new system get? Who exactly is trying for the hardcore gamer because it sounds to me like MS is. This seems more like MS trying to dictate the generation. So what happens in 3 years when XboxTwo comes out? This is a bad strategy for MS IMO. PS4 will be 70million strong by the time Scorpio comes out. Good luck beating that horse

JustGamin852908d ago

Never been a huge fan of spider man games, but graphic wise it does look good.

Muzikguy2908d ago

@errorist

How is it obvious? Have some of you guys seen some of the games on PS4? You, moldy, and Darth act like the PS4 can't run anything so it automatically has to be coming from a different/newer system. Its unreal

PhucSeeker2908d ago

Those are my favorite too. But it's a real shame that Sony buried Gravity Rush 2 in the crowded E3 floor. You love Spider-man gameplay then trust me, Gravity Rush 2 is what you need for spider-man fix this 2016.

jeremyj29132908d ago

I'm actually a little surprised that they made me like a Spider-Man game. He's always been one of my least favorite heros, but it looks like that's changing this year. First Civil War and now this, damn you Marvel.lol Still really curious what Sucker Punch is working on since they were rumored to be doing the Spidey game.

indysurfn2908d ago

I may have to finally take the super hero plung with this one. Oh and Sony surprised that Microsoft announced already? DEJAVU! Sounds like the same words they said after Xbox one was announced. I wonder if this means they have even better sitting on the wings? They dont sound concerned that's for sure.

ZombieGamerMan2908d ago

@ darthv72 No Andrew House already confirmed every game shown was running on base PS4 models, Sony just didn't want to talk hardware especially when they are already pushing for the VR. Just look at MS press conference they announced an Xbox One slim only to then shoot themselves on the foot by announcing Scorpio. Sony wanted to focus on games and push VR, had they taken the time to talk about Neo it would have made people hesitant to get PS VR and spend less time showing off VR games, announce new games and show off new game footage to games we already knew about

2908d ago
ecchiless2908d ago

@moldybread...

.....So Resident Evil 7, what it is? is not a full game? is gonna be a demo? cause im pretty sure they said is full made for psvr, so i guess is not a big game according to you, shame on capcom then.

UltraNova2908d ago

Darth,

When a game like Uncharted 4 is already running flawlessly on an OG ps4, comments like yours highlight the fact that the Earth will be depleted of Sodium based minerals sooner than most scientific and internet forum based projections.

GG my friend GG.

assdan2908d ago

If you wanted the newest and best tech ASAP, you'd build a gaming PC right now that's stronger than the scorpio.

Trez12342907d ago (Edited 2907d ago )

Death@ can you actually tell me with a straight face that xbox fans don't care about sales or wouldn't be shouting from the roof top if tables were turned? I mean its not like greenberg or major Nelson ain't working for xbox anymore and some of us who don't have the ability to erase our memories like xbox fans this gen, remember how these guys including xbox fans were talking sales last gen.

You guys are laughable with you innocent talk. What xbox is doing with their ecosystem is good and if it works then yay!. But Sony's ps4 is in a good position with the biggest market share and don't need to force things.

Kingthrash3602907d ago

Same way we don't know that gears wasn't running on pc.

ShakyTown2907d ago

@ecchiless Actually that RE7 teaser demo is not a part of the game as was discussed in several articles already. Here is but one of many
http://m.ign.com/articles/2...

Pongwater2907d ago (Edited 2907d ago )

@Shaky - True, but irrelevant to what he said. RE7 will be playable from beginning to end on both PS4 and PSVR when the game releases. That was stated on stage at Sony's show.

@moldy - I hope they're paying you well, or at the very least I hope the Kool-Aid is tasty. You are a veritable bs machine.

ecchiless2907d ago

@shaky

/facepalm.... Did you see the presentation? If you did then you should know what im talking about. Resident Evil 7 is gonna be full vr for the ps4 besides the normal first person view, so again, is that a small game?
What about GT sports, Ace combat, are those not full games? are gonna be demos?

LordMaim2907d ago (Edited 2907d ago )

@moldybread: Obviously you haven't played RIGS. Full game content is not only possible, it looks awesome. PSVR can absolutely handle it.

@donthate: Do you have any idea how hard it is to get a prebooking on a PSVR at this point is? It's already performing very well.

ShakyTown2907d ago

@ecchiless @Pongwater I did watch the presentation and was completely blown away by every min of Sony's conference, it's all very exciting. That being said, we have no indication of what the RE7 Psvr experience will actually be when it launches. I guess the reaction to most of the other Psvr experiences playable on the floor at E3 has me a bit worried, it hasn't been good. The teleport mechanic being shown off in so many of these demos seems awfully awkward.

Death2908d ago (Edited 2908d ago )

We all already know the PS4 Neo is coming. What we don't know is when and how it will affect PS4 games or PSVR. I'm not sure when not knowing about something was beneficial to consumers. Knowing about Scorpio a year in advance will most likely impact Xbox One sales, but it also makes it so consumers can choose wiser this holiday season. Anyone buying an Xbox One S can't be upset when the more powerful Scorpio hit's store shelves within a year of buying one. I'm sure there were marketing reasons Microsoft had for making the announcement early, but the benefit to customers is something we haven't seen before. I'm not surprised Sony is trying to twist this into being a bad thing, but it is odd seeing gamers complain about being informed.

Fin_The_Human2908d ago

Well said.

I think MS is fine with having 3 XBox offerings.

Similar to what Apple does with the Mac line.

Vanilla XB1 is a standard XBox which you can get for dirt cheap and it introduces the people who haven't made the jump to next gen yet.

XB1 S is for the people who have had and XB1 from launch and want a smaller one with the benefits of 4K and HDR.

Scorpio is for the tech buff like me who wants the lastest and besttechnology ASAP.

Hold_It2908d ago (Edited 2908d ago )

Agreed. I would think Neo is probably going to be teased at PlayStation Experience along with more news about Crash, gameplay and release for Resident Evil 2 Remake, Ni No Kuni 2 release date, and many more. Then they can present it on their terms at their own conference with as much time as they need to all the PlayStation owners around the world.

S2Killinit2908d ago (Edited 2908d ago )

Wait but Sony has also confirmed that they have Neo coming. They did this BEFORE MS, soo... How are they less informed?

shinrock2908d ago

That's where GameStop becomes useful. Good ol trade ins.

Trez12342908d ago

All they need to know is that psvr works fine on the ps4 n we all saw it. Sony is not in a losing position so you xbox fans need to chill. Everything is looking good for ps4 n it's owners. They're getting vr and standard games so the ps neo is just the better version of what's already possible.

You guys talk like is Sony who's losing and playing catch up. Yet we know it's xbox hidding numbers n letting people guess n what not. Sony will show the neo to the biggest console market share when they're ready n by showing only games for ps4 the other day, they only confirmed that when it comes to console, they are the only worldwide company.

Just look at the e3 live cast and you will see the amount of games, variety that playstation has. It really is the only worldwide console out there and there's not denying unless you're blind.

donthate2908d ago

Yup, that is exactly it.

Holding back information is beneficial to Sony and Sony only. Putting it out there is not beneficial to MS, but very beneficial to consumers, because you get to choose. Just like how you get to choose if you think EA Access has value.

In the long run, this is good for MS in the sense that they build trust with users. MS is not there to screw you over, but welcome you by giving you options to choose.

JackBNimble2908d ago

MS announced Scorpio out of sheer desperation. It screams out to that they have failed to entice gamers so far this gen and they have a bigger better xbox coming, but you have to wait only a year and a half.

JustGamin852908d ago

I could have sworn neo would of be released for holidays 2016, but im not so sure now seeing how the retail version for PSVR is $399 and Sony wouldnt drop two sku at once both retailing over $399. However im incline to think that the neo hardware has been already picked and set and i do hope that its on par with what MS have up its sleeve.

Muzikguy2908d ago

MS isn't there to screw you over? What about all the 180s and flipped switches? I think having revealed the Scorpio was a bad move. They didn't have any games to show or anything. Really they just wanted to beat Sony to the punch. Now, we wait and see people neglect Xbox for a year while they wait for the Scorpio to release. How was that smart? Desperation move

iceman062908d ago

I don't see it as "twist this into being bad" as much as it is reflecting on their direct experience with the introduction to the PS4. I remember thread after thread of "but they didn't show the box" and " why show it now if you don't have a box to show?" comments. Apparently, Sony took that to heart when thinking about this announcement. As for knowledge of forethought, well, that's pretty much moot with a mid-gen update as is. None of us expected this radical paradigm shift in strategy. Most just figured it would just be a shorter generation. Now it's just more of a "when?" and "how much?" prospect.

Death2908d ago

@S2K,
This is Sony's Andrew House claiming he was "surprised" by the announcement. If you read the article he also states Sony learned their lesson about announcing a new console without showing it. I'm not sure what they learned since they announced the Neo before e3 and no pictures or concrete specs.

@Muzik,
The 180's and flipped switched you speak of resulted in a much better Xbox today. Consoles evolve. The Xbox is evolving faster and moving to multiple platforms giving gamers more choices than ever before. The games you buy today will work on Scorpio next year and PC now. Neo will do the same, but for console only. Is anyone neglecting PS4while waiting for Neo?

@Trez,
The only ones concerned over console sales seem to be PlayStation fans, Xbox fans moved past sales. Xbox and PC are merging giving developers a much, much larger user base than console alone. It's not a competition for sales anymore, the games are moving beyond that. Digital Xbox games will be playable on Xbox One, Xbox Scorpio, and PC with crossplay and game saves between all three platforms. You won't need to spend money on re-masters since the same game will play on all three taking advantage of each platforms strengths.

DeadlyFire2908d ago

@Death sure Xbox and Windows are merging in one box. OSes outside Windows platforms could exist on PC in the future too. Well they already do, but Sony could take on Windows and SteamOS in the future with a similar deal exclusive games and cross buy for its platforms.

2908d ago
SonyAddict2908d ago

The only one making it a bad thing is you!.

turdburgler10802908d ago

Xbox will have two options. One that does 1080 (xbox one S) and one that does 4k (scorpio). Choice is good.

Genuine-User2908d ago (Edited 2908d ago )

@Moldy

You're so far off course that I can't help but question the nature of your comment.

Why would it be harder for Sony to get consumers to buy a more powerful PS4?

Why would consumers question the performance factor for PSVR?

Console gaming is all about optimisation, and Todd suggesting more power for Fallout VR is not a statement against optimisation.

Sony isn't stuck with smaller games. Did you miss the annoucement of Resident Evil 7 VR?

Tell me what's better. Providing your entire current-gen consumer base with equally impressive VR content or do what Microsoft has in plan and only provide that option to Scorpio owners?

Jayszen2908d ago

@Genuine User

Some really good points. Sony is ensuring that PSVR can be enjoyed by ALL PS4 customers, those who bought the vanilla version and those who will buy NEO. Microsoft,on the other hand, wants only those who can afford Project Scorpio to enjoy "Real VR" as Phil kept on describing at the presentation.

Ultimately the best console is the one with the games and at present only the PS4 is delivering on games on a consistent basis (So far this year it has had 5 major exclusives as opposed to just 1 from Microsoft). With all of the games announced over the last two years for the PS4, quite a few to still come out this year as well as the 50 odd releasing this year for the PSVR, I think it is safe to say that the Playstation brand will have plenty of games.

krypt19832908d ago

Your will not be playing AAA vr games on the vanilla ps4 hate to break it to you, and if you do it will be ugly small titles which will prolly still run like shit

Muzikguy2908d ago

Always off course. I'm sure the Neo will have better VR experience, but to be able to play with the vanilla PS4 as well is a testament to Sony. Personally all I see is desperation from MS with the Scorpio announcement

Sevir2908d ago

LMAO! @Krypt dude lay off the Crack pipe?

You must have missed the press shows. Ace Combat 7 is a AAA PlayStation VR exclusive, did you also miss the colossal news that Resident Evil 7's is playable entirely in VR and that the VR version is exclusive to PSVR? We're you asleep when Crytek Announced Robinson:The Journey as PSVR exclusive and it's very much a AAA game...

Please just be quiet. You're behaving as if PlayStation 4 produces ugly games that run poorly? News flash it doesn't and we've had this argument already, PS4 > XBO... the VR games are made to run perfectly on the well spec'd PS4, so both smaller VR experiences and large AAA games like the 3 already confirmed will be just fine on a PSVR

rlow12908d ago

Yeah, with lower resolution since the PSVR isn't even close to HTC or Oculus. Or are you going to say resolution doesn't matter anymore? When it comes to VR it sure does. As VR games get more powerful then what will happen to the regular PS4? Some games that might have come out for psvr will just skip it, because Sony requires all games to work with the older hardware. Have fun with your 400 dollar low Res PSVR.

Pongwater2907d ago

It seems pretty safe to question the nature of moldy's comments imo.

LordMaim2907d ago

@rlow1: That's because the Vive is also $800 instead of the PS VR's $400. I'm sure that if they doubled the price of the unit they could double the resolution too.

THANK YOU!

Sony has so much under their belt right now. Why Would they need to Show Neo so early just because their competition's platform ran out of steam? These headlines are dumb. Now if Sony didn't have a Neo, only then would there be a problem. Right now, they have their feet kicked. They basically pressured Microsoft into throwing down their one ace, and now they know what kind of cards Microsoft is holding.

2908d ago
joab7772908d ago

@death.. I've always know that a great spiderman game could be unbelievably good. Here's to hoping we get a string of these.

SuckerPunch would a be a great development to do a superhero game too. I just don't know which one I want next.

I'd love an rog like Mass Effect set in a super hero world. Similar to the DCUO concept, but a giant sandbox rpg.

senorfartcushion2908d ago

Sony did have the best conference but NO WAY was Andrew House surprised. Sony were showing the Neo until the week before. They even announced it as real days before the conference e.g. "it is real, wr have one now and we are saying it first."

The Neo's specs were too low to show at the conference, Sony found out and pulled it.

Why else was there a badly optimised Days Gone demo at the end? It was filling in for the Neo reveal.

Gol3m2907d ago

Badly optimised.......lololololololo l damn you guys pull some clangers put your butts. Days gone looked perfectly fine. Perhaps you were thinking of that other 3rd person game that looked look a 360 game.....what was it called again....oh thats right gears 4

senorfartcushion2907d ago

Eonjay2908d ago

Actually this is a good point. One imagines that if you are trying to sell someone on a future product, seeing is believing.

I think Microsoft should have waited until it had content to show.

darthv722908d ago

It is very possible that we already were seeing Neo mode on those game demos. If not then it shows the PS4 is still a beast in the right hands. Either way I was impressed by what was on display.

Eonjay2908d ago

@darthv If you read the comments from Andrew, he makes it clear that they haven't shown anything yet. He wants to build of a suite of content and have one blowout.

krypt19832908d ago

Had cintent to show you kids are not bright at all , all you have to do is imagine Witcher 3 running at 4k 60fps or the divisione fallout running 4k 60fps these new consoles are not going to have special games and different cases same software just 10×s better

Muzikguy2908d ago (Edited 2908d ago )

@darth

Why is it so hard to believe that we are seeing PS4 capable games?! Is it that you've been lied to so much you don't know what to believe anymore? Yes, the PS4 can be a beast when used properly. We all know this. So why keep downplaying the system?

Sevir2908d ago (Edited 2907d ago )

@Darth
All you're seeing is year 3 PS4 games. Natural evolution of game engines extracting more from current hardware. Andrew House has already come out and stated PS4 Neo games are not ready for show.

Chances are some of the Sony E3 demos were already running on Neo prototype hardware. Most of the big upcoming titles we saw will launch when the Neo will already have been released, and the flagship version of these games will obviously be the Neo one

And we all know by experience that E3 presenters will never miss a chance to display their games in the best light possible

sangoku_d2908d ago

after playing uncharted 4 id say no

Timesplitter142908d ago (Edited 2908d ago )

yeah but don't forget U4 is 30fps and doesn't have 100 zombies on screen

Aenea2908d ago

Of course I'm a bit afraid of that too, but let's hope it's not, Uncharted 4 gave us proof that games can look that good on the regular PS4...

Captain_Mushroom2908d ago

Why the hell are you getting so many disapproves? Everything you said makes sense, especially the second paragraph. God, this community is downright nasty.

objdadon2908d ago

Lol, that was just the good ol fashion ps4 buddy. Thats what happens when you have actual talented developers and allow them the time harness the power of a console. Look at uncharted 4!

Sparta072908d ago

"yeah but don't forget U4 is 30fps and doesn't have 100 zombies on screen"
And what does that mean!?
U4 is the best looking game on any console. Hell you can even argue it looks better then any pc game. So what was the point of your comment? Lol, just cause Sony exclusives look so good doesn't mean it's on neo.

objdadon2908d ago

@Timesplitter14, it's already said that god of war will be 30fps. Probably will be 60fps in neo mode. Microsoft announced 2 consoles in 1 conference that are only a year apart from each other. The most confusing thing I've ever seen.

Eonjay2908d ago

In the interview he clearly states that this is not the case.

xfiles20992908d ago

Sony comfirmed all games were on PS4 not NEO.

ORyanDeee2908d ago

digital foundary thinks the days gone demo was running on PS4 becuase the frame rate was just above 30

mkis0072908d ago

That would be incredibly nearsighted of them...when they want to finally show it off, if what your claiming is true, they would have no comparisons and people would call them out on it. The point would be to be able to go up on stage and show Zero Dawn running, and then the next second it's running even better on a neo for comparison. They would take that away by showing the neo ahead of time.

lokirevamped2908d ago

I am getting the Scorpio, hands down a day one purchase for me. I really do hope Sony ups the Neo's specs, I am getting the Neo as well. I will just give my current models (X1 + PS4) to a family member.

Xavy2908d ago

Yeah go back to your cave and wait 18 months for this PC to release.

iTechHeads2908d ago

No one cares. It's releasing this year most likely and will be more affordable.
I think Sony and their fans will sleep just fine having "only" 4.2TF.

AdmGenAladeen2908d ago

They can if they want to. The question is were those the REAL specs "accidentally" released to Giant Bomb? Was Sony trying to bluff MS? Did MS fall for it? None of us will find out these answers until Sony shows what they have. In the end if Sony wants to do 4k gaming the specs will be close to Scorpio. We all win in the end!

Majin-vegeta2908d ago

For all we know those specs could be a year old for Dev kits and have probably tinkered with them after feedback.

Sony has been trolling MS since the reveal of the PS4.

Gol3m2908d ago

I agree Sony wouldn't be locked in yet. There'd be 3 or 4 different routes they can take with neo. This would be afforded to them by AMD as they are the market leader for consoles. When Sony saw the specs of the Scorpio I guarantee they'd be on the phone to AMD telling them to go with a certain optiom. MS played their hand too early. I fear for the xbox fanboys of n4g that this hooting and carrying on about scorpio being the king (yet unreleased) is about to bite them back hard.

dboyman2908d ago

I really hope Sony changes the specs of the Neo to match Scorpio or come up with a "SuperNeo"...

Pongwater2907d ago

"Was Sony trying to bluff MS? Did MS fall for it?"

The same thing occurred to me while watching MS's press conference. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility.

Xbox and Windows 10 exclusive.

iceman062908d ago

Good for them because they really don't have to. The Neo and Scorpio are niche consoles, much like high end PC's. While tech heads will go crazy for them, the mass market will continue to go for where the games are, where their friends are, and where mindshare tells them to go. With a 2:1 share of the market, all Sony has to do is keep pace and keep pumping out games...neither of which shows any signs of slowing down.

Asked about the decision, he said: “In terms of the right time to talk about Neo, just like every other hardware launch, VR being a good example, it’s when you’ve got a full range of experiences that you can showcase to say this is why this product’s great and that’s why we’re offering it. And that time is not right now.”

Bad example to use House, Sony announced PSVR over two years ago, a bit contradicting.

OB1Biker2908d ago

Well PSVR had a few experiences to show off running on it for a while too. Its not like they were just talking about a device and sofware that didnt exist yet

And when they did, they also had a selection of 3-4 demos to demonstrate it's brand, and expanded on that with limited but still enough software for audiences to sample at E3 that year, so no he used a great example

jznrpg2908d ago

When they announced it they showed games for it, did you see scorpio games?

OOMagnum2908d ago

I don't think you understand lol. THERE ARE NO SCORPIO ONLY Games.

Gol3m2908d ago

Not according to MS execs. Apparently if someone wants to develop for scorpio only then there'll be exclusives...goodbye xbox one we hardly knew thee

S2Killinit2907d ago

@OOMagnum
That's incorrect. Scorpio is basically the Xbox 2. Firstly MS themselves said it will be VR capable, which means VR is exclusive to it. Secondly why would they need all that extra power then if it cant have its own exclusives. If you listen carefully, MS walks a fine line in the presentation, you have to read between the lines. Scorpio is MS's way of exiting the current generation softly in a transitional move. They need to kickstart the next generation but cant be seen giving up on xbox one.

Yetter2908d ago

Not to mention all games are going to run on both the neo and the PS4, so what full range of experiences are they planning on showing off?

IanTH2908d ago (Edited 2908d ago )

No, it's actually a fine example.

He said "in terms of the right time to talk about". In PSVRs case, that was 2 years ago when there was a realization that good consumer VR was a reality and was inching closer to coming to market (the VR landscape shifted and that stalled its launch). We had players like Samsung, HTC & Oculus all banging the VR drum. You need to get your product mindshare out in the early going for something like this. You want to be included in the conversation from day one and synonymous with a platform like VR. And they had hardware to show and software too (as others have stated). I'd say that falls into the category of looking at hardware launches in comparison to the landscape quite well actually.

In the case of Neo, the right time to talk about it isn't right now. They let you know it exists. You know the gist. And if you are talking about a box that will play the same games, only prettier? Then yea, now isn't the right time to talk about it - either from a consumer point of view or a business one. And they've largely ensured that when they do decide to talk about it, hype will be built because people will know all info will be available with actual hardware and games to see.

Sony shares big new PS Plus stat, but not the one we want to see

PlayStation Plus has improved the split of PS4 and PS5 players on its priciest tiers, but Sony continues to hide total subscriber numbers.

lol acting like it’s equivalent to ms numbers

Mr Logic1d 13h ago

Uh...They're definitely not equivalent.

"Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service now has 34 million subscribers."

"the total number of PS Plus subscribers across all tiers was 47.4 million"

darthv721d 12h ago (Edited 1d 12h ago )

That PSN number seems like it should be much higher... especially when you consider that PS4 alone has a sell through of over 117m. To not even be at least half that is rather interesting.

To the XB side, having 34m to an install base of roughly 50m (XBO sell through) or even 85m (360 sell through) is a greater percentage of unit to member ratio than PSN.

bloop1d 9h ago

That's not the "gotcha" you think it is Darth.

darthv721d 8h ago

^^it's not supposed to be bloop.... it's just an interesting observation.

Have you ever heard of a PC before? I hear they are pretty popular.

MS started lumping gold subscribers in with those GP numbers... keep in mind.

shinoff21831d 11h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

What. Definitely more os plus subscribers but that makes sense due to actual console sales

Darth the difference between the bases are huge your right but you gotta think. Ps players buy more games, where as the Xbox base relies on gamepass for their gaming. So it makes perfect sense

darthv721d 11h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

What makes perfect sense though? You say PS players buy more games... so then logically there should be more PS+ subscribers given the increased number of online multiplayer games in the PS4 generation alone. The PS4 was the first time that + was required for online play much like Gold was for 360 users.

Keep in mind we are talking subscribers, not simply XB/PS users. I assume you meant to say offline single player games, which is most likely true as well. That gen also saw a significant increase in games with an online component comparted to the previous gen.

victorMaje1d 11h ago

I for one will be going back to essential at the next renewal. When I feel a game is good & right up my alley, I’ll check trusted reviews & just buy it.

jznrpg1d 9h ago (Edited 1d 9h ago )

I have the top tier until 2028 as they gave me a massive discount for all the years I had left but I’ll most likely go to essential as well. I buy my games but my kids do use the service occasionally. They do prefer to own their games as well since any game can leave the rental service at some point and they don’t like that idea. They mostly use it to demo games then ask me to buy games if they really like it.

RedDevils1d 5h ago

For me, I will cancel it all together but unfortunately I still have it till 2030 lol

meganick1d 9h ago

I would like to see Sony add a fourth tier of PS Plus for people who just want to be able to play games online without any of the perks like monthly games, store discounts, or anything like that, and it should cost $20 annually, $30 maximum. There’s no way I’m paying $80 just to play games online. Even the original $60 fee was too much, and I would often wait for sales to re-up my subscription.

P_Bomb1d 5h ago (Edited 1d 5h ago )

Essential is too expensive, I agree. We’ve got one Essential and one Premium sub. Dropping the Premium when it expires.

gamerz1d 2h ago

Just let my subscription lapse for the first time since 2010. Will sub again every now and then for a month or so to access my old ps+ games but for me it's the end of an era.

DivineHand1251d 1h ago

Let those numbers continue to drop because it is now too expensive. $80 per year just to play online. I noticed they didn't offer any discounts on the subscription or controllers during this year's days of play for the first time in many years and they will feel it when people choose not to renew.

My subscription will lapse next month and it will stay that way until further notice.

KevtheDuff22h ago

There were savings on subs and controllers here in the UK? I bought a controller yesterday in the sale..
It would be weird if those deals were not in other territories too?

Hope SH2 gets more polish before release.

P_Bomb2d ago

I’m not paying $94 CAD for what they’ve shown me. Looks rough as sin.

Fishy Fingers2d ago

Ive seen better lip syncing during a Punch and Judy show

Sonic18812d ago (Edited 2d ago )

This looks terrible. Capcom should have done the remake 😂 The animations and gameplay looks stiff.

-Foxtrot2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Okay. I was saying before in another article how SH2 looked better than the last trailer, which is true but damn this looks rough as hell.

I wanted RE4 / Dead Space remake quality

Sonic18812d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I wouldn't buy it for $70 dollars. Maybe when it's on sale.

-Foxtrot2d ago

Yeah full price, deluxe editions, Konami are f***** tripping here.

CrimsonWing692d ago

The characters look terrible to me… like it’s distracting.

Cheat providers for competitive games should be illegal.

Rynxie2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

This is what developers and manufacturers should do. I know going after cheat devices/makers is a cat and mouse game, and cost money. However, they can get that money back by sueing these manufacturers of cheat devices. Take a page from Nintendo's playbook.
