Home is highly anticipated throughout the PlayStation community. Many are saying that this is going to change the way we socialise on our consoles, and we here at That Gaming Site agree, well just myself and Ankido. Mehar our Xbox reporter and founder of the site, has different opinions, which will be expressed a bit later on. We also have Chris Rah Osiris from PlayStation LifeStyle sharing his views with us, making this a special article and hopefully the first of many for the two sites.

Actually when you're in a computer class Microsoft is known for stealing ideas and getting famous for it. For example the operating system wouldn't look that way it did if they didn't look at Macintosh for the GUI (Graphical User Interface). Your right about which one that makes the best service wins but nobody wins if we get the same games five times over from different developers. What we need is a healthy dose of innovation shot in to the gaming market and someone to take the risk of it flopping.

The Wii and it's games are designed from the ground up to make you smile and laugh as soon as you start the console up. This way it becomes the perfect casual party machine. It's also made so you will get bored with it after a couple of minutes and give the controler to the next drunk guy waiting in line after you. The key to this is extreme repetitive gameplay. I find it amazing that people actually fall for this.

You lose on most of your points in that statement. Xbox Live did NOT invent movie download services, cross game invites, nor chats. Technically they didn't invent the concept of gamerpoints but they did make it more of a fine tuned "product" so I will give you that one.

I agree with what you said on "everyone copies" but MS very rarely does anything but copy, at least Sony has shown more originality IMO.

I don't think MS will respond much beyond their new dashboard experience thing. If they react too much they run the risk of appearing nervous and giving more attention to Home. I think they will release the new dashboard thing and let it go personally.

SONY is looking into what each persons personal space can have right now. After the last update they don't allow personal photos. So I think they are one step ahead of you... Plus it becomes parents responsibilities to put filters on the PS3 if that is their wish. Parents can make it so their children cannot communicate with others unless they are on their friends list... There are even further limits. So please don't use your ignorance to try and scare people.

With the Fall Update

It lets you do everything HOME has to offer and much more with a much simplier and more efficent user interface, which can be accessed ingame at anytime.

The only feature HOME has over Live is the ability to make your own appartment which doesnt really help you get into an online game at all.

Oh and another exclusive feature you can make you avatar dance in HOME....:)

Not sure where you read your info but the HOME software is free. And you get a basic set of clothijng , basic living space with some basic furniture to put in it, However You will have to buy extra clothing to make your HOME avatar look more unique, you will have to buy more items for your place and even buy a bigger place if you want that sort of thing. You dont have to buy anything of course, but then you wont get that unique HOME experience.

So DLC purchasing is coming to HOME

Don't forget the theatre, the lobbies for strategies before games, uploading videos in your trophy room, attending events like E3 while still being at home, and most of all you can invite as much people as you can to watch movies, listen to music, or just talk.

Can someone please explain to me why every MS fanboy is saying that the Fall update will be better than Home? Even a complete idiot fanboy would know that they're nothing alike. The avatars don't do anything besides appear in some games (maybe). That "make a party together and play games" was available before this Fall update. Halo 3 anyone? Or were those fake parties? Watch movies together? Wasn't that only availabe in the Netflix thing? Where people have to have both Live and Netflix subscriptions to watch it together? The Fall update is killing my blades. Im gonna say this that the fall update will have 8 player chat supported in game and we can move from game to game to movie in a party without booting up home. Thats impressive and if i want to play sims ill go buy the game. And secondly, the fact is that this Fall update is not going to change the world, it is not an answer to Home, or at least not treated as one. You WILL be disappointed. Not only can PS3 owners play games, they can have their own virtual space.

Now that's what I call an all-in-one package.

I can play games. (Uncharted, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Resistance, MGS4-all excellent games, not to mention the fact I'm getting Warhawk)

I can watch DVD/bluray movies (LOVE kungfu/martial arts movies and they look so damn good on the PS3).

I can play PSN games like Pixel Junk, and Super Stardust.

I don't have to worry about my system dying within a month.

I can change my harddrive without *upgrading* to another system. I'm getting the whopping 500gb harddrive for my PS3 soon from now.

I can charge my controllers on my PC without worrying about batteries.

I don't have to worry about disk scratching.

I don't have to worry about my disks being fried because my system has this habit of getting hotter than hell.

...I don't know Jenzo but it feels good to be a PS3 owner. :)

Second Life, which is laggy, graphically lame is immensely popular, can you imagine what a system that isn't laggy, has brilliant graphics and games will be like. HOME with cater to every demographic and with Trophy and Level integration will just be in a different universe to LIVE. LIVE is good, don't get me wrong, but the crowing has lessened of late and PSN is starting to make it look ridiculous especially in the games department (which is why we buy consoles after all)

I believe both companies have said that they will offer items unlockable in games. However, you can bet they will be charging for any of the good stuff. HOME is a virtual DLC heaven for Sony.

Anyway, don't want HOME, don't need the Sims on my console and I think MS does not need to respond to it at all. If I want to talk strategy I will just fire up a pary chat, if I want to view an event I will just click on Inside Xbox and get the info instantly, if I want to watch a movie with friends I will just fire up a party. If I want to play in community games I will just goto the Gameshow channel and if I want to play games in a community setting I will just fire up the game(wow, what a novel concept ie pool, bowling, etc). If I want to look at a virtual doll of myself I will make an Avatar.

HOME and LPB are competing against each other as the most over-hyped concepts this year.

In regards to the topic... without sounding like a politician, I think both the new Live experience and Sony Home will be great, but obviously different in how they bring similar concepts to our living room. Home is Sonys answer to the old xbox live we are currently enjoying and have been enjoying for years.

Home is a catch up to this service - hats of to Sony,theyve really concentrated on the online aspect which was pitiful on the PS2.

Ms's new live experience leaves Home for dead - seriously MS have just raised the bar yet again.

An analogy if you will.........

Old xboxlive service is like the record holder of high jump at 2.30 metres - its held the record for years.

Sonys HOME service will try and equal this record and if possibile maybe go to 2.31 or 2.32 metres.

PSN wouldn't exist if not for the ground that Live broke. You guys really have to be thankful that PS3 isn't the poor online gaming console that PS2 was. For all its glory, PS2's online was sub par. PSN is what it is because Sony got serious and made it a bigger concern. And that concern has a lot to do with X360 getting it right: put it at the forefront of the console's initiatives. Sony may innovate with Home, but even that is just a mii mockery.

The real innovators this gen have been Nintendo and Microsoft. Sony just decided to spend mucho dinero on their hardware and advertising and take both the Xbox Live experience and the Wii's experience and try to make an idea of their own. I'm not sure they have to, the majority of Live subscribers are happy with the current service, and with the Fall update coming that should "freshen" up the experience.

Allowing Silver users to play their games online would also help gain some more support.

I have some questions? Have any of you guys played second life? You guys know why it became so big right? You could upload your own creations. Home is the DLC version of animal crossing with style instead of being cute. Watching a movie as an avatar sounds lame. It would be worst than watching it as a cam bootleg. Maybe it would go full screen who knows but wouldn't that defeat the purpose of watching it with your virtual buddies? I guess the question is why do you even need a avatar for all of this stuff. If you have to walk every where that's going to be lame. Also if you can watch a movie and share it with your friends then SONY is going to have some issues on there hands. It's ok to have people come over and watch a movie at your real house but right now the MIAA or what ever has a case about that very thing on the books. SONY would be using movie watching as a service used to promote home and it's system in away way that is providing illegal screenings of a movie. Another thing is does SONY really need a virtual arcade for retro games to be fun to your guys? Just make a VC for arcade games!

Why do people quit WOW? The whole avatar thing wears outs along with level grinding. How do you guys feel about DLC and only trophies being unlockable? I know you guys want trophies I understand even if I don't care about trophies. But DLC is going to milk the hell out of you guys.

DLC is the equivalent of that warranty that best buy sells for every thing. I don't have a problem with DLC which is useful or game changing as long as the release game is fulfilling.

Another thing about home is I'm seeing lots of people getting excited by the possibilities of social get togethers online. So this will become your new AIM or IRC right?

Are you guy excited because you believe this is going to be as big as a second life or because this is good for gaming? I know you want your console to win but gaming isn't really about one upping the live services is it? Yes live is great but in the same breath it isn't. If it was so great then that service along could push xbox 360s as if it was a Wii sports but it doesn't.

Both of these services are missing the gaming angle to online play. Yes the FPS death match stuff is great but the XNA and any indie projects need to be accessible. They should both support 3d art galleries from any one who wants to upload work. Then her is the kicker the main thing missing is mods for your online games and map makers up loading their work to these new online places. Yes SONY could do this and actually with UT3 some steps where made but HARDCORE PC gaming features need to be what these services are about.

I don't want a gamer tag with some score that means nothing. I want to see what your accuracy is if you are a spammer. If would also be nice to run a console server off your PC and have full stats tracking.

Well I've been xbl gold member since it was released however I'm definitely NOT opposed to a FREE service, if Live were free I'd be more than happy about it. I have a ps3 and psn is free but it seems very limited compared to XBL, its just not as user friendly imo. As always people like free stuff but people also are willing to pay for premium services and thats how I and many of my family and friends view Live, although Live is filled with its fair share of idiots its still a great community for gamers and it has also allowed me to stay in touch and play games with old friends back home, unlike you the price of Live has never really been something we discussed, its $50 bucks a yr and I'm by know means rich but I can't say I ever really missed it, hell I spend alot more on a few beers at the bar in one night. HOME has no chance against the power that is Xbox live. It is over hyped. It may come out one day, but by then no-one will care.

With NOT ONE SINGLE DECENT GAME on the PS3 nearly 2 years into it's worldwide release, and with the graphics on the 360 still just as good as the PS3's, I think we can safely say that the 360 will be deemed a success in this generation. I dont count the Wii as a next gen console, it's a gamecube repackaged.

If you look at a consoles life span, in terms of how long before the next gen come out, it's about 5-6 years. So now it's nearly been 3 years that the 360 has been out and it's still leaps and bounds ahead of the PS3.

for gods sake guys, you can't even listen to your own music whilst playing games. You cant even get an official ps3 headset. You can't even get rumble on most of your games. You can't even voice chat cross game, and you call this console a next gen console? You could do all this on the Xbox 1!!

Not to mention the lag on the PS3 network, can you imagine how bad it will be when everyone gets on HOME? Awful. I have a PS3 and it's never used. there's a reason it's crap, it's because it's free,

HOME can't save a failing PS3, Sony should admit that this console is abismal, im really disappointed with Sony on their system. Imagine saying rumble is a last gen feature, then back tracking and paying out for it 18 months after the console is released. Imagine telling everyone HOME will be out in January 2008 when it's an obvious lie. xbox lives online features pund psn's right now. Home is for people who take gaming way too seriously.

Sony makes ps3 owners rely on 3rd parties for mics for online play. problem is, most online players dont talk while playing online, for various reasons(one being their console was not packed with a mic) so you end up having to pray that the ones who actually have bought a mic bought a good quality one, otherwise the voices will be crap.

The dashboard setup is also much more organized and convenient than what ps3 currently employs.

Its also funny how many people say that psn can have 30v30 battles. wow. great for no strategy, frantic mindless frag fests with people who dont talk right? more players doesnt mean better gameplay.

Home sounds like a new way for people to cyber with each other too. and when they arnt doing that, sit on virtual couches, eating virtual pizza, with their 180 pound guy, because they are actually 280 pounds, sick of eating real pizza, and have no friends to sit on real couches with.

Those are some examples.

PSN may be free, and you may have to pay for Live (50 a year, or slightly less that 15 cents a day lol), but would you rather go into your yard and eat your dogs crap for free, or pay money for a delicious subway turkey sandwich?

Home has a lot of great features such as decorate you house play with your friends golf, bowling etc, watch some video previews at the movies, meet new people do many more stuff oh and add trophies to your home that's why ps3's trophy support is better then the 360's achievements i mean for the 360 achievements what do you do with it nothing you just earn it but for the ps3 achievement you earn it and it goes to your home which is great so that the people can see what u earned it for

Home isn't going to change the way that people do anything. It is going to be a novelty at first and then usage is going to drop off sharply. If I read that article correctly, then wouldn't Nintendo and their Mii's also have to live in a virtual world that united gamers?

I hear what a lot of people here are typing about and that they find the whole Second Life aspect of HOME to be somewhat, for lack of a better word "bunk". And people are praising that the New Xbox Experience is just a simplified version of HOME. Yet if I recall and don't consider it to be fact didn't N'Gai in an episode of Gametrailer's The Bonus Round mention a 2dHome, in which most major functions of home were simplified to a simple menu? If this is true wouldn't the whole Second Life feeling be just optional?

The New Xbox Experience at this point seems great but it also seems to be lacking growth and potential to become something more. HOME seems to be a Second Life rip-off at first but you really get this feeling that if Sony does it right and get other companies into it can grow to become something so much more. Can you imagine if TV companies like NBC, Discovery Channel, ESPN or CNN or if major sport leagues like the NBA or NFL get involved. Though this is just wishful thinking, this can really push HOME to becoming something huge. Though in the end HOME may just end be just being a pile of BS if poorly executed and poorly supported.

I think Sony has the most to lose and gain with HOME and MS has absolutely nothing to lose because if what I have heard so far is true the new dashboard is entirely optional. So who do you think would push and support their new experience/service more, a company with a lot to lose or a company with nothing to lose?

I don't think that MS will respond to Home at all, they won't think that they need to, mostly everyone who has a 360 have always raved on about XBL, it's an excellent service, most PS3 owners basically wanted to see XBL on the PS3, with the update that included in-game XBM it was close enough for us. Home looks good and i'm looking forward to using it but i'd have to say that i don't see MS really needing anything like it, i always liked XBL and there's no need to fix something that isn't broken.
