What's Left for Wii U Owners in 2016?

IGn:

"With Zelda to 2017, Nintendo has a big gap to fill in the Wii U holiday lineup. IGN's Nintendo crew discusses the dire situation."

Lonnie182951d ago (Edited 2951d ago )

Just a barren wasteland, leaving gamers to fend for themselves! If it was me I would never support Nintendo again! Sell your system and come to a company that cares like Sony.

Zeldafan642951d ago (Edited 2951d ago )

I have 53 games for my Wii U between physical release and digitial. 19 physical and 34 digital. I've still got about a dozen more games to pick up over the next year before the NX launches.

wonderfulmonkeyman2951d ago (Edited 2951d ago )

Don't bother, man.
This article is filled with a plethora of ignorant Nintendo haters [not necessarily everyone here, but YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE...] who never once gave the Wii U's library a fair rating.
Let's just be content with the fact that WE know the system has plenty of games worth buying it for, from Nintendo, indies, and a nice smattering of exclusives from third parties.
There's two or three decent multiplats as well, but since most of them were just badly done last-gen ports [which there's no excuse for due to the Wii U being powerful enough to handle last-gen ports], I don't really consider them worth mentioning in the same breath as the rest of the system's library.

Sony Cares? They could give a crap about Vita and PS4

Hk85karlsson2950d ago

What? They don't care about their super success PS4? Are you for realz man?

MrBrofist2950d ago (Edited 2950d ago )

Please! If Sony released a struggling console, they'd drop support faster than Nintendo would have.
News flash: NONE of the big three cares about you or me to keep taking hits.
When was the last time Shuhei Yoshuda helped clean out your garage or loan you cab fare?
Just stop treating him like a massiah already.
That man is tired of all those boody-clap videos from Sony woshipers.

DivineAssault 2951d ago

I dont see anything i want for it the rest of the year.. Im a Nintendo supporter too.. I dont like the way they went with paper mario so i really wont have anything to pick up

Hk85karlsson2950d ago

I bought the Wii U a couple of years ago, and I have maybe 10-15 games. I also bought a new 3DS for my son.
I have owned nearly all of the Nintendo consoles (besides Gamecube) so please do not consider me a Sony fanboy (because I have owned all of the Playstations).

But..The Wii U is getting a really bad rap these days. And it's well founded criticism. The next 10-11 months is pretty damn sparse, and the argument about Zelda getting delayed "it's not like the other consoles doesn't delay big games" or "it's still coming to the Wii U", yeah it will. But it won't be nearly as good, will it?

Uncharted got delayed, fine. But the road map for the PS4 is littered with games (first party, second party and you fucking guessed it, third party) throughout the year.

The soul reason I bought the Wii U (which has been pretty awesome, especially last year) was for Zelda and Mario Kart, one game for me, and one for my kids. All other games was just extra shit on the U-cake.
Nintendo fans or Sony fans or whatever-fans, there's no excuse for this.

Thoughts?

DivineAssault 2949d ago

I have a PS4 too so thats what ill be playing all year i guess. You nailed it.. PS4 delays arent as bad because there are so many other titles coming out to soften the blow. Nintendo delays leave supporters with nothing to play while they wait.

DigitalRaptor2951d ago (Edited 2951d ago )

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Sad but I'll be waiting anxiously for their E3 announcements and NX reveal in 2017, now more than ever.

wonderfulmonkeyman2951d ago (Edited 2951d ago )

Not a single person here expects anything left for it for the rest of 2016.

If Nintendo does announce anything either at or after E3, even just one single new, unheard-of title, whether the haters think it's a good game or not, I'm going to be right back in here handing out plates of crow to those who were making an assumption way too early.
I'll even garnish them with those little sprigs of cilantro and plenty of SALT.:P

LOL_WUT2951d ago

It's not hate, there's really not much left to keep WiiU owners satisfied. I mean, all im looking forward to is Paper Mario and Zelda, but thats been delayed ;)

wonderfulmonkeyman2951d ago

No, it IS hate.
They've got an entire 11 months to go, and more than one show that they could announce new games in, yet you're all assuming they won't.
Just sit down and put the crystal balls away.

Zeldafan642951d ago

You really need to stop acting like you speak for everyone.

deafdani2951d ago (Edited 2951d ago )

Your defending of Nintendo has gotten ridiculous, man.

Here's the thing: so far, the only Wii U titles we know that Nintendo is releasing this year, are the new Paper Mario game and Tokyo Mirage Sessions Fire Emblem. Is there anything else I'm forgetting?

Yes, there's still E3 to look forward to, but we have to be realistic here. Nintendo has stated that they're focusing mostly on the new Zelda (which won't release this year), and that the new Zelda will be the only playable title at the show floor.

I do think that Nintendo can put out a couple games before this year ends, but I don't expect anything high caliber like, say, a new Metroid or something like that. Maybe a couple smaller games for the eShop, in the vein of NES Remix, Doctor Luigi, Wii Sports HD. Maybe even a surprise release of Mother 3. At best, I can see them giving us another Gamecube / Wii remaster, like Mario Sunshine HD or Mario Galaxies HD or something like that.

But I'm not expecting Nintendo to magically have a new major title available in store shelves before this year's end, especially if they don't have it in playable form at E3.

Seriously, man, when was the last time you saw Nintendo announce a major game for any of their consoles, be that home console or handheld, and release it less than 6 months later? The only one I can think of is Zelda Twilight Princess HD, and that game was a pretty straightforward remaster.

Everything Nintendo has said so far is a pretty clear indicator that they've shifted their focus completely on the NX. Zelda delayed to 2017, renewed focus on 3DS games due to low sales expectations of Wii U this year, no playable games at E3 this year besides Zelda, plus the various rumors that many Wii U games have been moved to NX.

This isn't hating, no matter how much you want to call it that; this is managing my expectations realistically according to the info Nintendo has given us themselves.

Hk85karlsson2950d ago

So one unheard of game will make up for the rest of the year?

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory2950d ago (Edited 2950d ago )

no need. All the crows served about NX coming 2017 and not 2016 are still being served.

deafdani2950d ago (Edited 2950d ago )

We're talking about a difference of 4 months. This isn't "crow serving", this is grasping at straws.

Sony Says The PS5 Is Its “Most Profitable Generation To-Date"

During Sony’s recent business segment meeting and investor presentation regarding its game and network services, the PlayStation company revealed that PlayStation 5 is the company’s “most profitable generation to-date.”

It’s the top slide of the presentation, showing that in its first four years, the PS5 generation has already hit $106 billion in sales, having almost caught up to the PS4’s total $107 billion generated.

Operating income for the PS5 generation has also already surpassed that of the PS4, having now reached $10 billion.

ApocalypseShadow2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I wouldn't doubt it. They released a high quality system. A lot of high quality games from themselves and their support of 3rd party developers and indies. They released many high quality remakes and remasters. They released a high quality GaaS game going against the naysayers thinking Sony would abandon single player games. And they most likely are profiting a lot more than PS1, PS2 PS4 and the loss leading PS3 that drained all their profits.

Now, I'll wait to see what's cooking tomorrow. But can you use some of those profits to better support your high quality VR headset? Because, by supporting it, you can sell more games and more systems and make more profits?

jznrpg2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I want RPGs for PSVR2! Good ones of course

shinoff21832d ago

If it had some rpgs I would buy right fking now. It looks dope and alot of fun, but it's biggest game resident evil 4(maybe) I've got no interest in. I'm not a fan of racing games, even with that metro game coming i was never much into that series. Rpgs would be fantastic.

MrNinosan2d ago

Lemme know if ya wanna play some Zenith 🙌
Bought it at release, but haven't played it more than 1-2 hours but for sure on my "todo list".

Cacabunga2d ago

Normal when they released mostly cross gen games so far. That’s a lot of money saved..
We haven’t seen what PS5 can do yet. 4years in and PS4 games still look great to me. The gen leap isn’t quite there yet.

--Onilink--2d ago

The interesting metric for me is the $106billion in operating income/profit (not sales as mentioned in the article) reaching the same as the PS4 did with only half the consoles sold.

In particular because they all are supposed to be making the most per hardware sold after a few years when manufacturing costs are down.

So even putting inflation aside(and the higher console price), it is interesting that they could reach PS4 $ with just half the consoles sold.

Maybe there is more to the metric thats whats seen at face value, but they have clearly been making a lot more money than before on the software side (with also less games released I suppose, given its only been half the generation so far)

VersusDMC2d ago

The bulk of the money has to be coming from the 30% cut on all games and microtransactions. Especially on all the free to play juggernauts like genshin, apex, fortnight, etc.

--Onilink--2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

@Versus

They are definitely making a lot on that for sure (which the $70 price increase factors into as well), but its not like many of those games werent around for the PS4 too.

They might be counting the gen as a whole and not just PS5 itself (so extra profit from PC sales, whatever that may be)

PS+ price increase and different tiers probably amount to part of that too.

But in general, its still quite a surprising metric. Half the time, half the consoles sold, less first party games released so far and still already making more of a profit than last gen is quite something, and as mentioned, there is probably more to it that we dont know, after all, since we are talking about operating income, all the expenses they have also factor into it, so it is also possible that they have found ways to significantly reduce that + all the means of increased revenue that appear to be factoring into the equation

All in all, just an interesting situation from a business perspective

porkChop1d 23h ago

It's for the whole generation, so it would likely be including PC. They also make much more profit on digital sales vs retail, and digital is far more prominent these days. The generation also started at the height of COVID when everyone was home, spending far more money on gaming/hobbies. It makes a lot of sense for this gen to be more profitable.

Abnor_Mal2d ago

This will surely shut up all the new trolling accounts trying to spread lies and non facts in other articles comment sections before this article is posted.

Hofstaderman2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Obscurely, those trolls or troll will not show in these articles as the truth is contradictory to his or their orchard-sized daily dose of copium and hopium.

Tacoboto2d ago

Or... They're intentionally trolling you guys specifically. Because they know it upsets you so easily.

Name-dropping Orchard, after this many months? How long has it been and he's still in your thoughts?

Elda2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I'm quite sure the individual is reading these positive comments downvoting & seething at the same time. Edit: It just downvoted my comment...lol!!

Hofstaderman2d ago

No I'm entertained by this individual. I love unhinged people, they are so interesting lol.

repsahj2d ago

Wow! I am super impressed that in just 4 years, ps5 already caught up to the PS4's. Congratulations.

JackBNimble1d 9h ago

That happens when half of your games are cross platform. I'm still waiting to see what the ps5 is capable of, because they sure haven't pushed any limits.

And where are all these ps5 exclusive games?

sagapo2d ago

Not really surprised as Sony barely has any competition at the moment.
