Future PS3 firmware updates we need PART II

This is the second part in a continuing article about firmware updates we need. Be open minded on the list. Others may want the update, even if you didn't like it.

Being able to charge you controller whilst the system is in standby is a must. To many times have I gone to play and the light flashes. Is it possible? There is power going through the console, so it must be able to bypass through to the controller.

I just charge my PS3 DS3 controller via my Laptop!!! EASY!!!;)

I dident read the first part, but here is my wishlist.
Its only a few things.

1. Flashplayer ( watch movies on game trailers )

2. And a REAL web browser ( firefox ) so you can use it correctly with a
mouse and K board.

3. Faster internet.

What I want is RSS video. Getting the totally rad show and Diggnation on my PS3 in high def would kick ass. I know I could stream it now, but there is a lot of hassle involved in that.

None of the items on the list are important to me. We don't even need half of them, like charging controllers in standby. You can just use your PC or buy a charging dock. I would prefer they didn't mess with the power output via a firmware update (if that is even possible).

Like i said wut is needed is multi-user log ins for the co-op trophies that SSDHD has, and the more there are certain to be in the future, that way when the trophy is unlocked both PSNs get the trophy like on LIVE, its a pain to help someone get a gold trophy than have to do it again on ur PSN name

I would love a new internet but thats not gonna happen unless you invent it your self and its faster then the current internet. Anyhow if mozilla were to port the gecko engine then sony could get netfront to use it. Its just a matter of time before the flash player is upgraded but sony really needs too make it possible for users to upgrade.

When they said that sony needs too change the internet is where I stopped reading, lost all credibility there. I bet they published their story through the internet in the ps3.

what are you talking about. Facts? I'm just saying that the list from that site is crap and they didn't even mention about game invites, where I can just press the ps button go to a friend and send them a game invite to come join me or go to my friends list and click to join a friend online.

Far as I'm aware home offers party invites within home and you all go to a game together, haven't heard you can send out invites for people to come join you once your already in a game or to join someone when there already in a game.

Home has never interested me so its no good if invites are a home unfied feature, they need to make it all possible on the XMB also.

How about employing someone who can actually design user interfaces.

The position of the clock is a joke i cant believe they made the battery indicator icon and the clock in the exact same position.

Apart from that everything else is great currently

That is one of my pet peeves about 2.4(1). I hit the PS button to find out the time, and I have to wait a few seconds for the battery indicator to disappear. It would be very easy to drop the time an inch or two (or a few centimeters for everyone else in the world)

I may be mistaken, but i already HAVE custom folders by simply assigning anything to a freely selectable "album" resulting in the system instantly creating a folder with the tagged stuff inside.

I have all my games sorted that way .. (puzzle, action etc..)

Yeah, the PS3 has ALWAYS had customizable folders (although only 1 level worth). Movies, games, music AND picture folders are all customizable the exact same way.

First you have to change how your media is displayed using the "square" button. After that, as long as you know how to customize folders in any one media group, then you know how to do it for all of them (hint: it involves the "triangle" button and the "information" option).

Give it a try.

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot. Folders labeled by the PS3 as "Unknown" cannot have their labels changed. The only option for those folders is to go into the "Information" option of the media inside and rename the "Album" window. The PS3 will automatically create the new folder.

This may explain why no one knew that they could do this, because the PS3 seems to label ALL new media as "Unknown".

That is different though isn't it. I think the article is talking about creating a folder. Like having the option to create a folder and just place anything in there. Not going a long route and changing everything.

Actually, you can. You create folders by typing it into the album slot of your media and the folder is automatically created. Once your folders are made you can freely add media to it. If all media in a folder is deleted or reassigned, the folder disappears. It's not like creating folders on the computer, but I actually prefer that way because I don't end up with empty folders.

But again, unfortunately you do only get one level. No sublevels.

The 360 can load the controllers in standby mode, I don't see why the PS3 should be any different.

Btw, what happens when the battery in the PS3 controller gets old and loses it's power quickly? Do you have to go out and buy a new controller then, since they don't have replacable battery packs?

considering that they are using Li-Io Batteries wich have no memory effect this is rather a mood point. A lifetime of less than 5 years is considered bad for that kind of batteries. And yes, if the controller breaks you need to buy a new one ...

I've had all my content sorted out for the longest time, its nice, ps3 games, ps1 games, pseye games , movies, demos and such. Once you type it in the album section once under information it groups it. if you have a lot of content it might take some time compared to drag and drop but if you have a keyboard it shouldn't be a problem

Here is what we really need......

1) Auto shut off on controllers when inactive over a period of time

2) Being able to have access to XMB while watching a Blu-Ray movie

3) Custom Plays list for Videos

4) An alert sound for when someone sends you a friend invite or message, or logs on your friend list

5) Voice Chat across all games

6) Cross game invite across all games

7) Total level & trophy count displayed next to your PSN ID on friend list

8) Custom themes for the In game XMB

9) Internet Radio Functionality

10) Start up Music (Customize a sound track that you want to play when you turn your system on)

11) Automatic system shut off after downloads (That way I can download 3 demos and go str8 to bed)

Sony Add in all of these features, and it's a done deal!!!!

i thought the ps3 had these already? i dont own one but wow if you add the trophy's of course the only way to show off is to show them and seeing on friends list is easier.

and for the alert of when you receive a message of some sort i thought it was added in 2.40 but nope. Well really all of these are necessary for playing online the most would be the cross game chat and invite cuz c'mon it shouldn't matter which game you playing so i can invite you to the one im playing. well lets hope they do catch up with this features

of the ones you mentioned, the ability to continuously play video is the most imoprtant to me; have been wanting that for a long time. Having to cut my controller back on ever 22 minutes or so when having a Home Movies marathon isn't torturous by any means, but it'd be nice not to have to. Tivo just recently got updated with folder playing itself, and it makes a world of difference in watching shows.

I agree with you Karate Kid on all your needs. Universal and private voicechat across all games is a absolute must along with game invites. One thing that as also always bugged me is why do we sign out of PSN when we watch a BluRay movie?! Surely that is an easy fix. Many will say Home will fix the voice/game invite pitfalls but why should be have to log into Home to do it,i would like the option to do it just from the XMB!

was when I looked at my PC with my PS3 it couldn't see my AVIs! The XBOX 360 has had that for months!

Voice Chat across all games could be cool even if i dont care to talk to anyone other then the ppl in the game. A simple text message is cool in my book

inmovie XMB is useless...i said this b4....if ur PS3 freind is that close to where you need to share info im sure he can call you and/or has many other ways to get a hold of you
