Microsoft 2013 Predictions: Xbox 720, Killer Instinct, Alan Wake 2, New Controller, Call of Duty

The Xbox 360 made a statement this generation. The original Xbox only surpassed 24 million units worldwide, and Microsoft found themselves selling a few million consoles more than Nintendo, but obviously came nowhere close to the Playstation 2. With the Xbox 360, Microsoft made a statement, and proved that they are here to stay in the gaming universe. 2013 is going to be a big year for Microsoft. With the rumors of a new console, new Kinect, and new games from Microsoft 1st parties, 2013 could prove to be the most important year for Microsoft since the launch of the Xbox 360.

i would love if the made a follow up game to jade empire, or rebooted the suffering.

Neoninja4177d ago

Would love a Jade Empire 2, but I believe bioware are the ones who would decide that. I think it would be a good launch for the next xbox, but sadly its not gonna happen.

Would be nice to get another Kameo game or a true Banjo game!

"Would be nice to get another Kameo game or a true Banjo game!"

forget it..

You think MS paid 300 Million + for Rare to make the games you like? Lol don't be silly.

I hope alan wake 2 comes to pc since it was profitable in 48 hours.
http://www.dsogaming.com/ne...

or wait 2 years? ugh hope not.. All I will have is ps4 and pc.

Call of duty? ugh...

SJPFTW4177d ago

Jade Empire 2? It was a great game but cmon everyone has been begging Bioware for making Knights of the Old Republic 3!!! Mass Effect and Dragon Age does not even compare to those 2 games, and The Old Republic MMO has been a disaster.

Also do not see the need of Microsoft and Sony changing their controllers, they are really good the way they are. Adding a touch screen would just make them more bulky and gimmicy

Tr10wn4176d ago

"The Old Republic MMO has been a disaster"

that isnt a disaster, it was pretty good actually, the problem was EA rush them to release it and they werent ready, but if you play the game you can see the quality in it, is basically a sequel to KOTOR so i think is gonna be hard for them to do a KOTOR 3 now, if you didnt play it when it was paid to play, play it now that is free to play and do the story it was pretty good and some of the dungeons were epic for KOTOR lovers a nice example is the foundry, the game has a nice story you should give it a try.

Urusernamesucks4176d ago

"Also do not see the need of Microsoft and Sony changing their controllers, they are really good the way they are"

Yes they are ,but remember that their still stuck with their flaws. And all $ony and M$ can do is make them even better or more confortable.Although adding a touch screen seems like a waste of money for the companies

sikbeta4177d ago

Godawful mockup of the X360 controller, no way MS will put an screen in the controller just because Wii-U has it, they created smartglass for a reason

miDnIghtEr20C_SfF4176d ago

There will be a screen in the middle. My MS insider has told me months ago. THERE WILL BE A SCREEN IN THE MIDDLE. REMEMBER THIS POST!

There will also be analog sticks, and trigger buttons that rumble.

Also, Perfect Dark will be a release game for Durango by Rare...

BELIEVE... MY INSIDER HAS NEVER BEEN WRONG TO US.

imdaboss14176d ago

lame microsoft have no exclusive games..lol.alright alright calm down.ill give them 2 or 3 but thats about it..Just get the PS4 now you gettin exclusive games.

lfclee4176d ago

Yes that takes back to the orginal xbox brilliant.

Would love a new Killer Instinct and Banjoe game. I think we will get both next year or early 2014.

MikeMyers4177d ago (Edited 4177d ago )

I can see a Kinect Killer Instinct coming. Hopefully if the rumors are true Kinect 2.0 will be much more accurate and not suffer from lag. I could see that being fun with Kinect but not in it's current form.

The article points out a lack of new intellectual property on the Xbox 360 and I agree that that has to change. The Xbox 360 did start out well with unique titles like Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Kameo, Viva Pinata, Condemned, Crackdown and others but the last few years that has basically grinded to a halt unless you count Kinect games and XBLA games. I don't want to see the same thing happen again where they come out strong and then coast.

I can see some tweaks to the controller but not much. They may add some sensors in it. I'd just like to see some free way of playing online, a hard drive built into every system, better media storage like bluray, ram at least 2GB but preferably 4.

All in all next year should be an exciting time with all the rumors coming. A new Playstation, a new Xbox (wasn't the original called Xbox so why would they name the next one that too?), and a new system from Valve.

MASTER_RAIDEN4177d ago

Predictions? why would anyone "predict" a new killer instinct on the horizon? neither rare or microsoft has shown any real interest in doing anything with the series
(mostly because their company heads have no souls and have insides made of garbage).
id call this more of a wish list.

Knight_Crawler4177d ago

You must be fun at parties -_-

Buzz killer.

ScubaSteve14177d ago

Microsoft is not doing killer instinct
http://news.softpedia.com/n...
so idk maybe

Belking4177d ago

Wrong... We will at least get an arcade version on xbox live which is good enough for me.

ScubbaSteve4176d ago

Scuba Squad go!

I have to agree with myself on this one.

I think some people just aren't familiar with what happens after Microsoft buys a company. As a fan of old Fasa games, I won't spoil the ending for you.

DOMination-4176d ago

Why do you have two accounts and replying to yourself?

ScubbaSteve4173d ago

That's not my account it just has the same name.

DivineAssault 4177d ago

if killer instinct makes a comeback nx gen, I WILL BUY MS new system.. I loved that game along with MK as a kid.. Bring it back! & that lil screen is cool too for huds n maps.. no need for the other gimmick features

Daver4176d ago

Same, Killer Instict would probably make me buy an xbox

10 Biggest Xbox Mistakes of All Time (So Far)

The Xbox brand has done a lot of good over the years, but their various blunders are pretty wild to look back on in their magnitude.

Ironically number 9 can save them at this point (releasing games on multiple platforms)

ChasterMies3d ago

By “save them” you mean make more profit for Microsoft. Xbox will still be a dying hardware platform.

OtterX3d ago

You could add the naming scheme for the consoles, it just confuses customers. I know they wanted to avoid traditional numbering bc it would always be lower than their competitor, but this whole 360 then One then Series thing is confusing af. Imagine a Soccer Mom trying to figure this stuff out. I still mistakenly call the Series X the One from time to time on accident.

RNTody3d ago

Don't forget about the Xbox One, Xbox One X and Xbox Series X! Good luck to Soccer moms around the world.

S2Killinit3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

They did that on purpose to confuse and direct attention away from the generational numbering.

MS doesn’t like reminding people that they joined the industry after others had already been involved in gaming.

For instance, they called the xbox “360” to combat PlayStation “3” because they wanted to seem like “more” than “3”, so instead of xbox 2, they opted for xbox 360. Also this had the additional benefit of selling consoles to uninformed parents who might purchase a “360” instead of a “3” by mistake, or because they thought 360 was more than 3. Kind of a disingenuous move.

They have been continuing with their confusing naming patterns for pretty much the same reasons. Frankly, it fits with who and what they are as a brand.

FinalFantasyFanatic2d ago

I can understand their reasoning, but whoever came up with that naming scheme should be fired, bad naming schemes have killed consoles (I'm pretty sure it was the major reason for the downfall of the WiiU). They should have had unqiue names like Nintendo and Sega have had for their consoles, far less confusing for the consumer.

Cacabunga3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Phil Spencer is the worst that has happened to Xbox.
They built a respectable brand up to Xbox one. Then this guy took over and things became a joke

Reaper22_3d ago

He still has his job. Something you can't say about Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga3d ago

Both bad execs. One is on job and one thankfully retired.

FinalFantasyFanatic2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I didn't like either person, both people damaged their respective brands and produced worse outcomes, but Phil did save the Xbox brand from being retired by Microsoft. Although in hindsight, he should have just let it die, rather than languish in limbo like it is now.

Rainbowcookie2d ago

Yeah but the one that was "bad" didn't even affect sales.

bunt-custardly3d ago

Phil Spencer was also on the team back when 360 was around, alongside Shane Kim, Peter Moore etc. I think the damage that did the most harm was the Don Mattrick "Always Online" console (ahead of its time basically). They handed Sony and Nintendo a free-pass when that was revealed. It went downhill from there. Then the corporate machine went into full swing to try and recover. They have to a degree as a games company for the masses, and less so for the core gamer. Outside USA, the Xbox brand does not sell as well as Japanese based consoles (citation needed).

Cacabunga3d ago

Want a decision maker. The always online and TV plans was a disaster yes, but they caught up by announcing 1st party games that gamers actually kept the hype going.. until this moron took over and introduced the PC day one release.. e all know where that ended..

S2Killinit3d ago

I dont think they were ever a respectable brand, not since the beginning, when their goal was never to be involved and share in the gaming space. I think the OG xbox was an exception because MS as a brand was still getting its foot in and so the people behind that were people of the gaming industry.

FinalFantasyFanatic2d ago

The 360 was the brand in its prime though, everything went downhill towards the end of that generation. Its staple games like Halo, Forza and Gears are what kept the console relevant and afloat for so long.

MaximusPrime_3d ago

Really good video.

I remember the days with RRoD was big news on here, N4G.

Microsoft had it turbulence number of years.

Looking at the success of Sea of Thieves despite being 6 years old, time to release Halo, Forza horizon 4 & 5 on PS5. It'll help their revenue

shinoff21833d ago (Edited 3d ago )

2 of the 4 games they did already sold really well. So it's definitely going down. Idk about halo or forza but I feel those studios they've bought in the last 5 years, their coming

ChasterMies3d ago

I found this video painful to watch. Can someone list them out?

Top 10 for me from are:
1. 2013 reveal presentation
2. Bundling Kinect 2 with Xbox One
3. RRoD or why rushing to market with hardware is always a bad idea.
4. Buying studios only to close them.
5. Ads on the Home Screen
6. Letting Halo die.
7. Letting Geard of War die.
8. Every console name
9. Charging for Xbox Live on Xbox 360 when Sony let PS3 players play online for free.
10. Cancelling release of OG Xbox games after the Xbox 360 launched.

Two trillion dollar company that just can't wait to put as many people possible out of work as fast as possible.

It feels like every single thing they do is making gaming worse and destroying the industry.

....you know it takes people to program the AI.... right? It isnt like it is sentient. We haven't reach skynet level of situation or anywhere close to the matrix just yet.

That's next Thursday.

Einhander19727d ago (Edited 7d ago )

It takes a people to program the AI then that AI is used for who knows how many games eliminating countless jobs which only grows as AI is used for more and more game creation functions.

What you're saying is so ridiculously short sighted and truly larking any kind of understanding and foresight.

Why all the hate? Im actually excited about this! Always wanted this kind of immersion, and an AI companion with me all the time helping me out knowing the status of my skills/inventory/progress and giving me tips on the best approach or how to craft something specific is game changing for the industry.

Hate all you want about AI, but this is just the start and I can see the potential already. You wont be complaining in the next 5-10 years about this, but rather complain if a game hasn’t implemented it.

MrDead7d ago

Yes we can't wait for the work of others to be used without the need to pay them so that MS can profit even more from the people they fire.

I_am_Batman7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

There is no chance I'd ever use something like this, especially if it's not part of the core game design, but a layer on top of it. It's way too much handholding. Many games already feel like busy work, because they don't let the player figure things out on their own. Having a real-time interactive guide defeats the purpose of playing the game in the first place in my opinion.

If this were to become the standard like you predict, we'll see more and more video games get away with bad design, because people will just be used to ask for help from the AI companion anyway.

Number1TailzFan7d ago

Well Nintendo don't need this with some of their games these days, with invincible characters, items, easy bosses etc.. they do the hand holding built in

helicoptergirl7d ago

Takes "hand holding" in games to a whole new level.

No Steam And Physical Release, Alan Wake 2 Not Profiting Was Inevitable

Choosing Epic over Steam and antagonizing the entire physical media fanbase, it's no wonder the masterpiece Alan Wake 2 didn't make a profit.

thorstein11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

I asked for this game as a gift. My wife couldn't find it at Gamestop, Amazon, or anywhere else.

I didn't realize it was digital only, I just figured it sold out because of the reviews and how good it looks.

Most consumers don't read gaming news daily, how would they know it's digital only?

Plus, outside of seeing it on Jackfrags YouTube channel, I hadn't seen much in the way of marketing.

Dirtnapstor11d ago

It's a really good game. I platted this one on the PS5. Well worth your time exploring this universe.

Jingsing11d ago

Unfortunately Remedy has become a bit of a nasty studio over this past decade, You just need to look at their business decisions and other projects they attempted. They are not pro consumer at all.

Petebloodyonion11d ago

You know that it's Epic Games that funded and published the game right?

CrimsonWing6911d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Yea, people are kind of dumb. I mean, no offense to @Jingsing up there, I know that’s blunt but it reminds me of Bayonetta 2 when that got announced and it was a Nintendo exclusive. It’s exclusive because f*cking Nintendo funded the development. But people were all like f*ck Sega for sh*tting on their fans when in actuality the game never would’ve gotten made if Nintendo didn’t straight up pay for the development.

Alan Wake 1 was not a massive seller. In fact, correct me if I’m wrong, but it underperformed and that’s why a proper sequel never got made until now where Epic literally paid for the game to be developed… but you got people saying, Remedy isn’t pro consumer because this game is Epic exclusive 🤦‍♂️

anast11d ago

They did this to save money, but it didn't work.

Skuletor11d ago

Will be interesting to see if they try the same thing for the Max Payne remake(s). You'd think they won't but people continue to surprise me.

anast11d ago

I think they could do some kind of special edition physical release. This way the crowd that has been with this game since the beginning would have the option to buy a physical disk. They would sell more too.

Charlieboy33311d ago

@anast No, it needs a normal physical release.....not some bullshit 'special edition' physical release. This way we will be able to easily get a physical copy for if we want, instead of having to mission to own some kind of limited version. That's not actually gonna boost physical sales now is it?

Chocoburger11d ago

I wonder if they've learned their lesson? Who am I kidding, of course no gaming company does at this point. Keep making those mistakes.
