Dante's Biggest Fans Weigh In On New Devil May Cry

Kotaku: Some hate it. Some love it. There is going to be a new Devil May Cry game called DmC: Devil May Cry, and the reaction has run the full spectrum. Time to ask the diehards.

knightdarkbox5004d ago

reaction of japanese= I HATE the new Dante!

:P

Nihilism5004d ago

Reaction of western gamers:

"I hate dante"

Japanese devs are really out of the loop, they must have taken 1 look a twilight and assumed all western kids like that $#!+.

I like males to look like males in games, and my females to look like females, something japan will never grasp.

RockmanII75004d ago

Actually this game is being made by the European company Ninja Theory, who also made Heavenly Sword and the upcoming Enslaved.

Anarki5004d ago

Yeah, but they shouldn't go changing Dante. He's like an Icon for the past 10years or something..

Nihilism5004d ago

They also manufacture Sony TV's in china...that doesn't make them any less Japanese.

Information Minister5004d ago (Edited 5004d ago )

Capcom is clearly going for a younger western, and therefore larger demographics. Problem is they are doing it at the expense of the established fanbase, which Capcom is assuming will still buy the new entry in the franchise. They are wrong! Many long time fans of DMC like myself will want nothing to do with it, and the game will flop so hard in Japan it's not even funny.

This should be an entirely new game, not a "reboot" of a successful and acclaimed franchise. Heck, they could even call it the spiritual successor to the DMC series, as long as they changed the name of the game and the main character.

Eamon5004d ago

Ninja Theory manufactures Sony TVs in china?

lol, I need to smoke what you're smoking.

DigitalAnalog5004d ago

At least they're still TV's that STICK to the design SONY created. I don't see them manufacturing "Sony Xianbo AiRen x550".

Nihilism5004d ago (Edited 5004d ago )

How is that relevant...

I did not draw a comparison between China and Japan or of their products, I simply stated that a Japanese product is made elsewhere, much like DMC5...but that will not make it less of a Japanese product.

@Eamon

I was being generic, by 'they' I just meant that sony tv's are manufactured outside japan.

AlienFodder5004d ago (Edited 5004d ago )

"I like males to look like males in games, and my females to look like females, something japan will never grasp."

Exactly! You know there's something wrong when a male protagonist is cosplayed by women and they actually pull it off... >_<

DigitalAnalog5003d ago (Edited 5003d ago )

"I simply stated that a Japanese product is made elsewhere, much like DMC5...but that will not make it less of a Japanese product"

That is precisely what my example meant. China, Thailand, Indonesia can manufacture SONY's products and still be Japanese because the designs are FROM Japan/SONY. This is NOT the case with Devil May Cry as the design of Dante was handled by NT. Therefore, it is now A BRITISH product. The only "Japanese" aspect of it... is the game title. Nothing more, nothing less.

@Anarki An Icon to who? Dante and his games suck and blow compared to Uncharted 2! Oh and Killzone 2-3, and your mother.

GSpartan7775004d ago (Edited 5004d ago )

Cosplayers don't necessarily mean hardcore fans. These are the people who watch the Anime, read the comic books and play the game on easy. Please.

Cloudberry5004d ago (Edited 5004d ago )

.
That's really cute seeing cute girls cos-playing Dante & Vergil, lol.

On topic, their reactions:

"What a letdown! I was so disappointed."
"We don't know much about it, though."
"Is it a prequel? Is it a spin-off?"
"His hair looks different!"
"But I'm going to buy it."
"I'm going to buy it, too."
"I'm going to complain about it, and then buy it."
"I'm going to complain while buying it."
"I think all fans of the series are going to say they don't like it, but then buy it."
"I might like it!"
"I'm going to buy it new. I'm not going to buy it used."
"It's good to have low expectations."
"I have low expectations."
"Yeah, I'm going to buy it."
"Me too."

---------------------------

I'd still buy it.

BYE5004d ago

"I'm going to complain about it, and then buy it."

That pretty much concludes it.

CobraKai5004d ago

I'm the "I'm going to complain while buying it" type.

menoyou5004d ago (Edited 5004d ago )

the new Dante is lame. it looks like some gay emo guy. i cant believe developers want to turn every character into some transexual weirdo like Square-Enix does. boycott this trash.

Nihilism5004d ago (Edited 5004d ago )

You'll offend some cross dressing cosplayers with talk like that, if you haven't got 6 gig of C.P on your HDD then you are doing it wrong in Japan.

Androgyny for lyfe!

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC42d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Exvalos42d ago

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Cacabunga41d ago

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer42d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey60242d ago (Edited 42d ago )

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya42d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde42d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP42d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.
