dark-hollow5008d ago

Seriously
First RE then FF and now this???
Japanese gaming is going waaay down hill

Lovable5008d ago

I don't have any defense...

Reibooi5008d ago

@dark-hollow

You can't really use this as a example of why Japanese gaming is going downhill because Capcom is not the ones making most of this game. Ninja Theory is and they are western. So basically you have a Western Dev completely DESTROYING the character and franchise and Capcom stands by and lets it happen because they hope that this will be what the west likes and hopes it leads to sales instead of stepping in and saying stop screwing with our character.

I blame Ninja Theory not Capcom. Capcom is doing what they did with Dead Rising 2 in just having another dev do the game but the difference is that this time Ninja Theory was a bad choice and has no idea what they are doing.

sack_boi5008d ago

It's like someone just kicked me in the balls. I'm mad at Crapcom right now, really mad.

newhumanbreed5008d ago

Blue Castle Games was an excellent choice.

Ninja Theory was a horrible choice.

At least they did one thing right...

Redrum0595008d ago

popular games like halo and cod with their sales numbers have started the trend where evryone wants a "western touch" and its pissing me off.

damnit, i miss last generation.

3sq5008d ago (Edited 5008d ago )

Capcom gone (RE)
Square Enix gone (FF)
Namco gone (Tekken)
Konami half-gone(SH), I'm watching you, Konami.

What the hell is wrong with this gen?

evrfighter5008d ago

if they wanted to westernize DMC it might have been ok to give dante a Tier 1 beard.

Unicron5008d ago

It's funny. japan seems to think the US wants "western" games.

Um no. I want BOTH. I like JRPGs because they ARENT WRPGs. I like DMC BECAUSE of its Japanese flavor...

sigh.

Hazama5008d ago

Yeah they seem to be completely ignorant to the fact that we ALREADY have western games...

mastiffchild5008d ago

I NEVER thought of DMC as that Japanese, tbh, and didn't see any need for them to fill a game already with it's fair share of western references(for example take the pizza fuelled shenanigans of DMC3's opening-there's tons of western references in the games' architecture, backdrops and cultural stuff too, isn't there?)with the4r influence of a western dev.

I just feel the Japanese part of the games was, mainly, the eccentric gameplay done sleek and stylish and at breakneck speed. Some of the weaponry is also similarly bonkers-but cool. I don't have any of this rabid hate for NT having found HS a VERY good game(if a little brief)and their current efforts look great to me.

Thing is I'm equally unhappy as everyone else that we get Emo/Twilight Dante rather than Actual Dante. I had been worried that Capcom would wreck it, like they did the SP is RE5 and LP2 by making co-op king of EVERYTHING making SP a seeming afterthought. Miss Frying
Pan meet Mr Fire. Whatever, uni, I agree with your premise entirely but don't hold that this series is particularly Japanese and unwestern to begin with and felt it's sales success across the world was down, largely to this fine balance. I agree that giving it to a western dev will possibly water down the Japanese part of the series, though, and am sorry if that's what you meant. It just came across like you felt the game was particularly Eastern and I always thought of it as good balance anyway.

I'd go as far as saying that Bayonetta's success was largely down to Kamiya knowing how to balance his identity alongside western and in game references and influences much like he already did with THIS series.

Sam Fisher5008d ago

ok if dark-hollow can't use this then just change dmc to final fantasy 13, or neir. dark-hollow can use other examples but what dark-hollow is saying is true, even kojima had to go learn western style games to help him on mgs4, which isnt a problem but man the japanese are losing this badly. capcom is a great example, square too. except for atlus. demons souls was great and refreshing. they need to make a new 1 pronto

Reibooi5008d ago (Edited 5008d ago )

And I agree there are things that Japan needs to do better and I wasn't using my statement to say that Japan is perfect and all mighty in Game development. I simply stated THIS situation isn't on the Japanese side but on the Western side.

What Kojima did with MGS 4 is how do add a Western touch the right way. Even with it's different game play MGS 4 still felt like a MGS game. However it doesn't matter what Ninja Theory does with this look it won't feel like DMC and that's not counting whatever the game play might be like which if their past games are any indication it will not be what DMC fans want.

The thing you need to keep in mind in nearly ever game the west didn't like that came from Japan the case was that Japan was trying to Appeal to the west. That's why FF13 had a liner story and game play because they wanted it to move forward quickly like a FPS and that failed.

That's why Nier was changed to a roided out old man because they thought people would not like the younger Nier when in fact most people would have preferred that.

Trying to appeal to the west is in my opinion what is wrong in Japan. They need to make the games they always have and people will play them. If you look at SE's games on the Handheld they are not trying to make the western and those games are awesome. The World Ends With You is a perfect example but when it comes to console they try to appeal to the west as does most companies and it backfires.

VandimionX5008d ago

I Mostly agree with you, however Nier didn't start production with the younger version of the character...that was changed to suit Japanese tastes. The developer stated the game with the older Nier is the original version of the story.

Reibooi5008d ago

@VandimionX

Ah. Interesting I thought they started with the young one and changed to the old one for the US.

Either way the reason for the old one is the same. They thought that would appeal more to the west. So they made a different version for Japan. Most people I know who know what Nier is told me they wanted the Japanese version instead.

It's funny cause Nier could have been a good game but SE didn't seem to have confidence in it. Had they put more backing and money behind it they could have created quite a good game.

Crossifixxo5008d ago

You Sirs&Madams, are a group of MORONS!! I'm sending mine filled with SHIT(no matter where or from whom i get it). After all what goes around comes around doesn't it?

Natsu X FairyTail5008d ago

I think this might actually be a good Reason to send Death Threats to the Capcom HQ's!

I was never big fan of the series but this is Crapcom for you they don't give two shits about there fans looks at DMC4 for a example.

TrevorPhillips5008d ago

I am speaking to a developer now about the disappointment going on with Dante's new look and he said "I know

That's how it always is though

You're not gonna get innovation without changing things up a bit" and he also said "And when all the backstory is explained then people will be like

AH, OK

Yeah"

dark-hollow5008d ago (Edited 5008d ago )

innovation my a#@
What innovation got to do with the character looks?

disparage5008d ago

Whatever dev you're speaking to is a douchebag. How about we give Dante a beard and an alcohol bottle while we're at it?

GSpartan7775008d ago (Edited 5008d ago )

The DMC series was innovative enough as it is. All they had to do was further build it up. Make every game better than the other. NOT F*CKING CHANGE IT!.

mastiffchild5008d ago

IDK. There's a point in what the devs said to Agent- but the new Dante looks nothing LIKE innovation and everything like following a recent trend which would mean a game that once set trends was now following one, a weak and washy one in Twilight/Emo(in the mainstream anyway). To me it smacks of "chasing" a demographic and you can tell with DMC1 and 3 that they were made without worries like that and no concessions on the developers p;arts, no nods towards fashion and trends.

Innovation isn't just changing something it's changing it for something you thought of rather than aped or bought in from outside. Plus, if you want to steal, you make sure you steal from genius and that looks an unlikely source for this p;articular trend. That said maybe we will all go "ok, yeah" when the back story is revealed but I'll say this:it's got to be one HELL of a back story.

Twilight May Cry!

You suck Capcom and Ninja Theory. The original Dante was an iconic figure who we grew to love with his arrogant, sarcastic, funny attitude.

This new Dante looks like he cuts himself after listening to My Chemical Romance.

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC42d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Exvalos42d ago

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Cacabunga42d ago

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer42d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey60242d ago (Edited 42d ago )

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya42d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde42d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP42d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.
