Rumour: PS2 Shooter Making 'Triumphant Comeback' On PS3 In 2011

CC: The April 2010 issue of Official PlayStation Magazine is reporting that a PS2 shooter could make a "triumphant comeback" on the PlayStation 3 in 2011.

If it's re-released via PSN, then I'll expect PS2 classics to be on the store every Thursday. After all, we've been waiting for HD re-makes frequently for a long time.

If it's not on PSN, then it's on disc, which leads me to think it'll be a series comeback like the God of War Collection...

When i read the title I was hoping for a shmup shooter and not another fps shooter. I am feeling left out cause there aint no update the Thunderforce or a new RType (rtype final isnt the "final" and IREM knows it).

Thunderforce 6 is out in JP but not anywhere else. Come on Sony. You have some of the best shmups around (saturn has more though) and it is a drag that there aren't more revamped for next gen. I would love an update to Einhander or Philosoma.

On topic: this is cool (i guess) for those who like the squad FPS.

If you actually read the article, it mentions a "squad shooter", Timesplitters ain't exactly what I'd call a squad shooter. Freedom Fighters was a squad shooter, but I can't see it happening, unless it is not from IO, which would basically kill my enthusiasm. I simply hope it's a worthy franchise though, I guess I still don't understand why anyone would revive the Spec Ops franchise...

Though it would be nice TimeSplitters isn't owned by Sony, it's owned by Crytek I believe, and there's no reason for them to make a PS3 exclusive.

Well I am pretty sure this is not Socom, my source come from the ability to put 1 and 1 together. First off Socom has already been announced by the powers that be and secondly has release date of fall 2010.

If it is Socom that this Magazine is alluding to it has the worst rumor mill on the planet and likely needs to be burned down.

Personally I can not speculate on what it could be I am just not familiar with any other squad based shooters that people would care about out side of Socom, Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six (2 of which are not exclusive) and have also been announced or alluded to via Year end reports.

First off confrontation was made by slant six, not zipper. we have got that part right though anyone who played the game should know that.

For the record fire team bravo 1-2 were also made by zipper and tied in with Socom 3 and Combined Assault respectively.

Slant Sh*t made Socom Tactical Strike and Fire Team Bravo 3, but hey, what do facts mean on this site right.

We got to see this, well a demo of it... It's "Cold Winter" and it's kind of a prequel/remake of the 1st one. If you remember the original had, in my opinion, the very 1st instance of duck n' cover for a FPS. I know some would argue Flashpoint had it first or whathave you but I believe COLD WINTER was the 1st one I remember playing with the cover bits in it.

Anyways, it looks really good. Being dev in house by a team of out sourced Sony guys. Sharp visuals with a very PC feel to it.

Are you serious????Are they remaking Cold Winter??? That and TS1&2 were my favorite FPS's on consoles last gen (including Halo)...I loved that game, it was the closest feeling game to Goldeneye N64 since... Absolutely loved the way the cars exploding 100's of metres in the air when triggered. Awesome game, and would love Swordfish Studios to announce a proper sequel, and get it out quick like, rather than waiting till the end of a machines lifecycle, like they did with 1st one. Screw 50cent games Swordfish, give me more Cold Winter.

Freedom Fighters was on xbox as well and by the sounds of it, this title was exclusive to PS2. I think its SOCOM tbh. They're not counting Confrontation. Plus I don't think SOCOM 4 will release in 2010. As for Syphon Filter, that wasn't squad based. Timesplitters was an fps and was not squad based so you can rule that out. Its not Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon. It could be that game that Pandemic developed but that was for the original xbox. Though I think it came to ps2 after. I can't remember the name. Unless its Resident Evil Outbreak File 3. Though you probably couldn't consider that a shooter but it is squad based. Full Spectrum Warrior. That's what I was thinking of. Though as I said, it came to xbox too. It also could be Conflict. That was squad based but was also developed for xbox. Its last outing was last generation with Conflict:Vietnam. That game sucked so I wouldn't be too excited if that turns out to be the franchise in question.

One of the greatest FPS of PS2 is Black, despite being published by EA. If it isn't the best FPS on PS2 it's on the top 3. I wish it's Black 2.

i wouldn't say it's socom 4 since confrontation was the first socom game to be on the ps3 which would make the "triumphant return" statement negated; timesplitters isn't squad based; and syphon filter was more stealthy like splinter cell and actually more revered on the ps1 and psp.
