Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition for PS5 will be on two discs and takes up over 100 GB

After the reveal of the release date of Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition on PS5, details are now arriving on the space it will occupy on the console. The complete adventures of Aloy require over 100 GB of free space and for this reason the physical edition includes two blu-ray discs.

I'm pretty sure that between the main game and Burning Shores, it goes past the 100GB capacity of the disc and then you have all the patches that I hope are also already baked into this version. So it makes sense for them to go with two discs.

Honestly, I'm not sure if the PS5 can even read that type of disc.
I recall the use case for them was super specific and not every member of the BR Association was on-board.

It was more a question of packaging and costs as it probably works out to be cheaper to use existing capacity discs than a special higher capacity disc. Even though they could technically compress the contents anyways since nothing runs from the disc except the installer. Im just thinking to the PS5 one i have as its on one disc compared to the PS4 having two which is due to the lack of UHD disc support on the 4 drive.

okay... if we convert the 121GB of the game into MB, it would be roughly 123,904MB. A floppy disk holds 1.44MB so it can be deduced that this game would require about 86,045 disks.

My bad, i didnt know the base game was already close to 100gb. I thought it was something like 70+ in which case the dlc was something like 20gb and would have fit onto a single 100gb disc. turns out the combined size exceeds the triple layer capacity UHD and approaches the quad layer capacity UHD discs.

Ahh.. you got the one with the stature. Yeah they didnt come with discs. I got the special edition which came with the same steelbook but also a single disc for PS5. The PS4 version came with the same steelbook but two discs which made sense as the 4 lacked the UHD drive like the 5. you have two holders in your book so you can populate it with this version if you double dip.

The base game alone is like 97GB... with the DLC that's an extra 25-27GB... I will gladly take two discs vs a DLC slip

I just checked my install of the game. The base game is about 102 GB and the burning shores expansion is 15.44 GB which beings the total to 117.4 GB. These games are getting bigger. If you have a PS5, an SSD is a must. If the total size of the complete is 121 GB then there may be some additional updates or content being added to the complete edition.

Yeah I love that feature I brought forbidden west on disc and also have a PS plus membership so once the game came out to plus I didn't have to get my lazy butt off the couch to put a disc in to play it while still having my own copy of the game if I ever drop the subscription

if you own a game on disc and say it comes to PS plus one day the PS plus licensing applies the the pre installed disc version.

Meaning you no longer need to insert a disc to play the game you already have installed.

What you can't do is insert a disc and download the game it will always try to install from disc unless the game is already present on the hard drive even if the game has a patch that basically reinstalls it you still have to wait for the ps5 to install from disc which honestly takes a long time for larger games

This also probably comes with some caveats as in the past I've had saves no longer work when going from some games physical version to digitally version e.g fallout 4 recover a special SKU for my region but had the standard European version on the digital store so when I tried the PS plus version I couldn't play my save

Great call having the game on two discs and not resorting to a dlc code for burning shores.

At a time when publishers are more than happy not printing discs or having only licence keys on the disc and making the user download the entire game regardless it's good to see someone still just putting the whole thing out there on physical media.

I will get this now. I passed on it originally because it needed all kinds of patches downloaded, AKA incomplete. I hope Sony does this with all of their big games like Last of us 2. Imagine actually owning the whole game for my money and it actually is on the disc and works! What an odd concept these days. This unlike Microsoft where you buy a physical version of Starfield for Xbox series X and all you get is a stub on the disk that directs you to the internet for 100GB download. You can't actually own the actual game, lame.
