That whole statement about the ABK deal I heard as "Hey, we're available for sale for $68B as well! Come buy us! We have good mobile IPs as well!"

Abriael305d ago

Quite possible. Especially considering that he didn't answer the part of the question about his opinion on independence.

-Foxtrot305d ago

With how hard it was for MS to get the ABK deal through I have hard time believing they could take another, their third publisher.

I'm not saying it couldn't but after what they've just went through, imagine getting another one passed.

Abriael305d ago

Microsoft is certainly not the only buyer in the market.

TheColbertinator305d ago

Microsoft will buy every other 3rd party publisher in due time. Prepare yourself/

-Foxtrot305d ago

@TheColbertinator

"If we can't win it...buy it"

blackblades305d ago

Going by how shytty the protection are around mergers/aquiring whatever is. They'll be fine and will be able to aquire easily. The only one giving them trouble is CMA. The FTC basically prolonged it I would say it was easy for MS just annoying i bet.

EvertonFC304d ago (Edited 304d ago )

Yeah I can't see any other big ones being purchased by MS, not for a good while. However Sony can buy a couple of really big ones now without any opposition.
If I was Sony I'd just buy rockstar and take GTA, RDR away from MS and go see we can fu*k you up too.
Edit: don't think that would ever happen btw and if it did it would be more beneficial staying 3rd party profits wise.

MrBaskerville304d ago

ABK was hard because they are the biggest publisher in the industry, if not the biggest company overall. Ubisoft is a lot smaller, so probably not as tough.

Christopher304d ago

***Microsoft is certainly not the only buyer in the market. ***

*Embracer and Tencent have entered the chat*

long-time-gamer304d ago

I mean at this point they might just try and gobble up everybody, one by one and have the Netflix oh gaming even though ps has a nice amount of games to keep you busy,

dcbronco302d ago

I think it will be easier for Microsoft to buy the next one. Given the way the FTC was humiliated by congress and that Khan will be fired because of her resistance the next head of the FTC won't be too anxious to interfere. The next one will be easy. Especially since Sony's exclusivity deals weren't made a big deal of yet. To prevent further acquisitions by Microsoft Sony needs to try to get a deal with Microsoft that stops exclusivity deals in return for no more acquisitions. Sony can't afford a acquisition battle. So they should assure Microsoft they will no longer be locked out of franchises. Otherwise we are going to see some big offers or hostile takeovers.

Whatever happened to Ubi, used to be one of my fav pubs.

jaymacx304d ago

What happened to them is they play it safe and follow industry trends and most of their newer games aren’t fun and are loaded with filler content. Hopefully with the new Prince of Persia and the Star Wars game, they can turn things around and bring excitement back to their releases.

darksky303d ago

If they are desperate to sell then that means they are struggling or know things will go south eventually. No company would try to find buyers if they were growing.

At this point who doesn't want this deal to happen lol.

Stanjara304d ago

So Ubi is next judging by their ass kissing.

crustcate304d ago

I'm not saying it couldn't but after what they've just went through, imagine getting another one passed.

LabRat304d ago

Yeah that's why I think they did it in the order they did. First they buy a few studios ( Ninja theory, compulsion games, double fine, playground games) okay no big deal. Then they get something a little bigger (zenimax/bethesda/ID software etc). That caused a stir but again, okay I guess. Then finally the hammer (activision). That caused a huge commotion and a lot of attention. Had they done this in the reverse order, I doubt Bethesda would've passed. They will likely lay low with acquisitions for a looong time now.

MrBaskerville304d ago

They know that they are next in line, so why wouldn't they congratulate them?

Take-Two CEO: We're So Focused on Delivering More Value Than We Charge

Take-Two head honcho Strauss Zelnick states every time they establish a price, they want to make sure it's "good news for consumers."

Petebloodyonion7h ago

It's the why we close servers after 2 years, why we re-use the same assets every year, and why we bundle our game with enjoyable microtransactions.

neutralgamer19925h ago

Running digital casinos in every game

neutralgamer19925h ago

Can you please focus on delivering enough quality content to justify the $70 asking price? While I appreciate the idea of over-delivering, it's essential to ensure that the base content itself is worth it. I have concerns that GTA6 might have less single-player content because most of the focus seems to be shifting towards online play and microtransactions

Inverno4h ago

The sleaze oozes out of these gaming CEOs faces. It's honestly disturbing how distorted people look when you've realized how money obsessed they really are. He gives off "in one ear and straight out the other" vibes.

jambola4h ago

I really don't get it
like
do they think anyone believes what they say?
is it that being in charge surrounds you by so many yesmen that they get deluded into thinking everyone is like that?

Good-Smurf3h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Selling Shark cards and removing content are not exactly "good news for consumers" lol.
The last time they released any DLC worth playing was 15 years ago.
GTA V is so broken and unbalanced that people would rather do stupid cringey stunts with than do heists.

I wonder how much Ubisoft payed for this article to be written.

Skuletor1d 5h ago

I wonder how much a AAAA journalist would cost too.

BeHunted1d 5h ago (Edited 1d 5h ago )

Maybe it was Sony?

OtterX22h ago

Reminds me of the E3 after the Fallout 76 launch, where the Bethesda team came out on stage hyping how great the game was and had people actually cheering in the audience. (Despite all the negative reviews and feedback floating around the internet at that time.)

neutralgamer199211h ago

But would we be really surprised to find out S&B did well? There are million s of gamers who don’t even arch reviews and just buy what looks cool.

Remember for honor and how much hate it got for the ridiculous amount of micro transactions and player progress be behind a pay wall. Well guess what it’s still going on and one of most successful games for UBI. We think few weeks of hate or dislike matters when most publishers plan for that and start pushing it harder once journalists have moved on to other games

NBA-K is basically a digital casino yet it’s generating hundreds of millions

NFL and FIFA player cards generate EA billions in micro transactions

We don’t buy them but just look up on YouTube and how many people have invested thousands into some of theee games. And 2K pays these YouTubers to highlight the digital casino

We are the problem. We refuse to speak with our wallets. When it’s our favorite game we become hypocrites saying things like no one is being forced to buy

Does anyone have accurate gameplay numbers from Steam or PSN? I smell snow job...

Profchaos1d 3h ago (Edited 1d 3h ago )

I recall seeing a fairly low concurrent player base that was helped by the free trial (likely the metric they are using internally to push for season 2)

S2Killinit1d 7h ago

If true, it goes to show that the negative press response was not reflecting reality. I personally thought omitting land traversal was a huge miss. But i also thought there was some things that were great about it. Lets see which story was true and which was made up (or worse, paid for)

Zeref19h ago(Edited 19h ago)

I couldn't find any redeeming qualities about the game. Except maybe the graphics look decent? Please enlighten me. It feels like this was a bad mobile gaming turned into a console game.

S2Killinit17h ago(Edited 17h ago)

I haven’t played it. But what I was seeing looked to capture some of the magic of Black Flag which was an excellent game. I felt that they could build on it and hoped that they would add land battles/exploration to it. The graphics do look good. And its not just another fps live service. Thats all. I dont really know much else about it, except I like the concept of playing as a pirate, with that sense of freedom and exploration.

Zeref16h ago

Yeah no it's nothing like Black Flag.

Friendlygamer1d 7h ago

No data just pr talk. The same site has an article talking about how the price of the game was slashed quickly post release, these sites treat us like fools lol

InUrFoxHole1d 6h ago

What exactly is you're arguement? Did you read the article?

jjb19811d 6h ago

They're right. There is no argument either. The game is a turd and Ubisoft is doubling down on that turd. It's all fancy PR talk with no actual substance. I don't know what "argument" you're looking for. I read the article. It sounds like Ubisoft asked for a redo on their "AAAA" "game". Trash game and trash company.

Friendlygamer1d 6h ago (Edited 1d 6h ago )

Price decrease articles are typically made to make it seem like a gaming is flopping, they're often poorly researched and meaningless.
The article about the game thriving is also meaningless because it contains no data, it's basically corporate propaganda, even suicide squad is getting a season 2

In resume, not only this site plays both sides, it does it lazily and cynically because they don't care about quality, what they care about is clicks from us ( fools )

InUrFoxHole1d 5h ago (Edited 1d 5h ago )

@ jb
🤣 all it says is thanksfor the support. It's not like they're saying hey it's better than what you've seen come buy it. Lol you guys will whine about anything
@ Friendly
Gotcha when you referenced the other articles was like... uh doesn't that make it non biased? Basically you prefer stats with these articles or some sort of metric. I'm tracking. All I can say is... not everything is an amazing read or comment on n4g, lol. Game on!

Friendlygamer1d 5h ago (Edited 1d 5h ago )

Skull and bones TReMENDoUS ReSPoNSe. Prove it gaming journalist !! Prove it

So it looks like they have abandoned unreal for future iterations of the game and are sticking with ego. So that means no decent VR support on PC and none on console seeing as the ego can't handle it properly. I think I'm done with this franchise it's turned into fifa with a hefty price tag and no innovation from one year to the next. Time for someone else to have a go at this licence
