I know this is going to VERY unpopular, but I loved Horizon when it came out, but I honestly could do without a sequel, I am way more excited for Ratchet and even Returnal was more hype for me.

You loved Horizon but don't want a sequel. Dude Horizon Forbidden West at 60fps with the PS5's ssd will just make the sequel even better than the first. The first Horizon set the bar high for graphics and HDR, and I can't wait to see would Guerilla does with the sequel.

I kind of agree that for me it doesnt need a sequel, it has such a great ending (besides the part where hades becomes a genie in a bottle). I felt the same way about last of us 1, it had such a perfect ending that i rather didnt want a sequel.

I can see that. I too love Horizon, but the story told in the first game was so complete that it technically doesn’t need a sequel. On the other hand I have a thing for braids and red heads so I’m very excited for the sequel. Very very excited. Very.

Story wise, it is one of the most interesting settings I have seen in a long time, there are so much to see and find. Creating a new IP is expensive, I am sure there are still so many materials they haven't used when creating the first game as well. The first one was gorgeous on PS4, I would love to see how much it has improved in PS5, and especially if they do a third one that is not cross gen so that it can take advantage of PS5 100%.

I am super excited for Horizon, and would want them to make it AT LEAST a trilogy.

I mean, I liked the original mainly because of how unique the combat, traversal and general game mechanics were. I am not too invested in the story and I kinda had my fill of what it had to offer. I would have preferred something new or Killzone even personally, but I am not complaining, just giving an opinion in a comment section relative to the article like everyone else no?

I will probably play it, just nowhere near as hype for me as Ratchet. (or like I said even returnal personally)

I'm kinda with you on that due to how I don't see how the story can be progressed where it will have interesting twists in the plot or great revelations.

It's like Resident Evil and Mass Effect. Once you know everything about the origin and what had happened before, the story/plot loses it's effect.

I'm sure the gameplay will be great and everything. And I do want to play more of a Horizon game. But I ain't holding my breath for the story content.

I'll guess Early 2022 too but Sony could surprise us. After all, they had the gall to announce GoW Ragnarok as 2021 back in late 2020, when they just had to be able to gauge how unrealistic that sounded.

I mean, I still think there's absolutely zero chance for Ragnarok this year, but if HFW is delayed too, they have no reason to start the hype machine before E3 (especially with Ratchet releasing right when it begins).

Funny how COVID doesn't seem to be affecting Sony's game development. With Horizon, that will be four 1st party exclusives released in 2021. Also, Ragnarok has not been delayed either. It's still saying 2021 so unless Sony comes out and delays it officially I'm going to continue to believe it's coming this year. So that would be five PS5 1st party exclusives in one year!

I don't think Covid is affecting many game development projects. They would have just continued their work remotely. I've not heard of many games so far that have had major delays.

Hope to see some evidence that the PS5 version is more than a PS4 game with better resolution/framerate (although those must be better as well; this game can't be 30 fps on PS5). Something like the comparison in Miles Morales showing the difference between leaving the interior of a building on PS4 (lengthy loading screen) and leaving the same building on PS5 (swinging straight through an opening back into the open world).

At least for my part, the criticism is more future-facing. I don't think anyone serious is challenging that Sony is opening the generation better, but it's more a question if how things will look in 2023. In fairness, Sony has almost always come around with new exclusives every time it has seemed like they looked weak, but the "let's remake Last of Us," "No Days Gone 2, go remake Uncharted, Don't Bend" and Kojima going to MS rumors are not encouraging for the future. For the first time since about 2005, it feels like the people in charge of PlayStation think that they are winning because it is their destiny, not because of the good things they did in the past that they have (maybe) stopped doing now.

Sony could have left some of these for later but they are not. They are on full throttle. Even if Bend can't make Days Gone 2 we will get a new IP.

Naughty Dog is working on multiple projects of which new IPs. A remake won't require all employees if that is really happening.

I thought people complained about sequels all the time. Sony is taking risks and releasing great games. They have done that almost every year since ps started so I don't see that change.

If I had to place money on it (in a sense I guess I have by buying a PS5 and prepaying for like 3+ years of PS Plus), I'd bet that Sony will look good in 2023-2024. But I have to acknowledge that I have less reason to be confident in PlayStation's future in 2021 than I did in 2016. People don't want to hear it now, but the Bethesda deal is a real problem for Sony. A lot of people who buy games but don't follow the industry (think of your friend who isn't so casual that he just plays COD but he also doesn't know the names of specific developers/publishers) are going to be shocked when Elder Scrolls 6 is announced as an Xbox Exclusive. We can try to deny it all we want and say "Lol Bugthesda," but that time is coming, and the narrative is going to change a lot.

There were rumors back in Feb from the same guy who leaked the PC release of HZD - but Jim Ryan came out since then and said it's still on track for 2021 - and 14 min of gameplay footage this early would suggest that is true!

My only concern with the sequel is the story. Hopefully it is on par with the original story which was very unique to say the least. No doubt the gameplay will get an enhancement.
