Kingdom Come Deliverance has two day one updates so far with a combined size of more than 23 GB for both of them.

It sucks for those with crap connections and I understand where they are coming from. The deep silver guy said you are basically replacing the entire game with the 1.02 patch.

Well, okay. Why not delay the game for a month and put the new balanced game on the retail disc? Well because they already produced hundreds of thousands of discs with the old content. It’s a crappy situation, the Warhorse guys added/edited a lot of content instead of making it dlc and after they physically produced the game. That’s why they usually go gold at the last minute, deep silver messed up. Although it’s really not that big of a deal to most I imagine. Digital is half of the game sales now and only growing.

Storm in a tea cup if you ask me. You can still play the old version, and explore, or run a few quests while the patch is downloading - it beats delaying the game any day.

You are never going to please everyone. There would be complaints why stuff was held back, this way they worked on it right to the end. Delaying games is never an easy solution either, it's not like these guys are Rockstar who will make millions no matter what.

morganfell2286d ago

But they had to see this coming. It's one thing to get a 500MB patch. Even a 3 or 4 GB patch. A 7 GB patch. But this? Ridiculous. Not that it matters. You will fall asleep long before the patch downloads. This game is one of the best sleeping aids I have ever purchased.

Tankbusta402286d ago

These companies rely on patches far too much in this day and age. Its getting old an annoying. Obviously people are going to want to play the updated version since it is supposed to be better so what @archangelmike claims really holds no weight. I have a crap country dsl connection and 23 gigs will take 3 days to download...so I can't just run a few quests while the patch the running.

I realize this is not an issue for most places, but until internet has some what standard speeds all around, it continues to be an issue for plenty. When the next gen comes out...these 23 gb patches will be 50 gb patches.

slappy5082286d ago

I'm in the same boat as you. The 23GB patch has put me off buying it. I would have to wait for a complete edition

Actually games go Gold a month or more prior to launch, not last minute. I would normally agree that they should have just taken another month to polish but... one could argue the game was done, went gold and the developer was done. So them taking this additional month after the game went gold to put even more polish on it to ensure it's more polished, runs better, what have you, is more than almost any other developer would do.

Right. A month or so is the last minute to me lol. 3 or 4 weeks. They didn’t change the entire game in a month. They talk about a substantial amount of content that could have been sold as dlc. The article says the big update basically replaces the old game and it doesn’t stack. When did they start manufacturing? Sounds too soon to me, but it’s just my guess lol.

“Essentially you are having to redownload the game to replace the existing files. It shouldn’t stack them and inflate on your harddrive, but rather replace the previously downloaded build files. 1.01 is a tiny compliance patch. 1.02 is the large patch that addresses and balances features across the entire game. Both are live right now on consoles.”

ApexWolf222286d ago

They should've known it needed extra work prior to going to print. It's not like these issues just came out of nowhere. They knew, it's just faster/cheaper to patch out whatever when it launches. Shady but it's the new industry norm, you get to buy fancy coasters with holes in them...

HyperMouse2286d ago

it was a kickstarter game too so they had to get the physical units to their backers to meet their promise to them, which they did most excellently, i was playing last night and it didnt release until today.

Father__Merrin2286d ago

Problem is games like this suck when u get them phisical ie you may as well get it digital but digital prices are too much.

I see no reason to keep this in collection physical the patches are too big for current gen games.

With ps3 360 wii you could easily rack up a collection to keep but that's go e now

porkChop2286d ago

The discs aren't printed until very near to release when the game goes gold and is certified by console manufacturers as being fit for release. The devs would have known at that time that they were going to update essentially the entire game. They printed the discs knowing there would be a massive day one update. That's not ok.

A day one patch of a few GBs is one thing, but 23GB? If the entire game needed to be replaced and updated, that means the game was not ready for release when it was certified as being ready. That is not acceptable.

opinionated2286d ago

I agree to a point. You have to remember that this is largely for the PC crowd. They haven’t seen a disc in 10 years. It’s a console afterthought so I cut it some slack personally. Have you heard about the game of thrones mod? It makes me wonder why I bought it on PS4 let alone the inferior disc version. Even with digital you have to download the game and then the update though lol. It’s just weird protocols I guess.

It's 2018, those sizes used to shock me years ago but now it's nothing. Give it another 5 years and you'll be looking at 100GB+ average of downloading before playing games. It's not a problem as the internet is getting faster and faster. GB will look like MB soon to people.

Oh please, many AAA games have larger patches. Stop looking for things to get pissed off about, ffs.

Mr-Dude2286d ago

I for one look forward to play it. Let them bitch, I rather play something new and realistic then another COD or Battlefield or whatever crap game

This is why I went digital this gen, the disc is pointless unless you intend to sell/trade it down the road. From day 1 of this gen, all we've seen is patch after patch. Although I appreciate that I get the freshest & latest versions, this wouldn't be necessary if they actually had a decent QA department or played the shit they sell. My theory is that they all know it's incomplete, they just Day1 patch it before the masses notice and said game flops, just a theory tho...

JEECE2286d ago

Yep. These sorts of patches are exactly why the whole "I buy physical so that I can still play my games when they shut down PSN/Live" rationale totally fails. Yes, you can put the disc in and play something, but without patches it won't be the actual experience, and it many cases it will be pretty broken.

Just Bought it Thank you after checking reviews alot people enjoyed it Worth Picking up for that Price.

Spenok28d ago

I already own the physical copy on PS4, and even bought it on Steam for my Steamdeck... but I went ahead and bought this as well. Because, why not?

Aussiesummer27d ago

If you just like wasting money sure.

Spenok27d ago

It's not wasting money, it's me supporting the developer, in hopes it helps them in the long run to continue making amazing games.

This one was certainly not a needed purchase. As for the Steam copy, I wanted to be able to take the game on the go, and it was on a good deal besides.

thesoftware73028d ago

Yeah, good price, saw this yesterday on SX as well
