PS4 1.7 Firmware Update the “Biggest That Sony Has Ever Made” for Features and Size – Insider

Sony Computer Entertainment has teased that there are more yet unannounced features in firmware update 1.7 scheduled for release on April 30th, which means that the update is definitely pretty big, but according to a reliable industry insider, it isn't just big. It’s the biggest Sony has ever made.

The PS3 and PS4 have had some updates that could potentially brick the systems under certain circumstances, and those updates weren't as substantial as this one. I hope Sony tests this new firmware out in every way possible to avoid these possible problems.

This console already has hype, they are just adding to it by putting out gaming-focused updates, and that is why the excitement continues.

Sometimes firmware updates are boring and nothing to get concerned about, but this one looks to be a major one, and shows that they are listening to feedback like hawks.

I think you are doing all the wetting by yourself. Sony hasn't hyped anything, infact they have been very quiet about this update that we haven't even heard all the features of it 3 days until its release, didn't confirm a release date until recently and only had insiders giving information.

It is their biggest update till date in size, not in hype, you are doing all the hyping yourself

Oh well, hope this update brings more needed features.
But it's great, Sony keep listening and considering users feedback.
I just wish they worked on it faster because I don't to end up having the "pause download" feature, for instance, the next 6 months.

If it has MP3 playback, video playback, ability to organize the bar with folders, ps1, ps2 & ps3 backwards comparibility, than it will be the best ever. Otherwise I don't care.

You are going way overboard buddy. The PS3 did all those things and than some. Yet the PS4 isn't doing them. Is it really too much to ask that the PS4 matches the almost 10 year old Ps3 in funcionality?? You know what? Don't even answer that, it will be outlandish answer anyways.

I agree the system should still be able to do what the "old" PS3 was able to do. Just don't agree with the need for bc. We don't need it, and PS3 didn't have it (after the launch consoles, which I had one until it YLOD!)

Actually PS3 still plays PS1 games. PS2 was removed to make the hardware cheaper. Still don't understand why they didn't create a software emulator for Ps2 games.

There is no need for hardware to emulate games. A software is enough. People use software emulation to play PS1, PS2, PS3 games on PC.

There are currently no working ps3 emulator, as for ps2: even a overclock i5 take a hit sometimes. Sony have to recreate all of the features the ps3 had because of the new architecture.

From a business perspective, Least likely they will allow BC on PS4, they would not be able to make any sort of money from doing so (which is their new focus now). PSNow will allow all to be able to rent PS3 games through their Netflix like streaming service, which is profitable but gives what a small percentage of gamers want.

With this in mind, More than likely Sony will also use an emulated environment to play PS1/PS2 games on PS4 aka digital classics from the PlayStation store, more profitable and more worth their time and effort.

Software and services bring in revenue but giving the option to play old discs does not. If you are a company that suffered last generation, what would you do to become profitable this next generation?

If they don't include DLNA then the update is a waste of time. Give me something useful, not some BS light bar dimming feature. The PS4 needs more multimedia functions, it definitely took a step back from the PS3 in that department. All I use my PS4 for is games, which sucks because we're not living in 1994 anymore. Game systems, like smart phones, need more functionality.

I seriously want to know what they were thinking by not adding in MP3 and MP4 playback, as well as download pause/resume. It just seems so obvious.
