Facial Capture and Graphics Comparison of PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4

"Regardless of whichever side of the debate you fall on, no one can deny that the PlayStation 4 is a significant step up from the PS3. In fact, when viewing the tech demos and games showcased since its official reveal more than a month ago, it’s impossible not to look back in awe. The amazing thing is we haven’t even seen the true potential of the device – and we may not see it for many years to come."

The PS3 Alfred Molina demo was a lie... That is all.

Heavenly King4078d ago (Edited 4078d ago )

Uncharted 3 looks better than that demo.

Tei7774078d ago (Edited 4078d ago )

Not too far off actually, but the details like the pigmentation, the specular lightin on the surface of the skin, the pores and the details in the eye are missing in my opinion.

Theres a reason why the kara demo (released 6 years later) has lower texture quality and polygons, because its actually achievable.

funny how Final Fantasy VIII was on the PS2 portion was on those videos :P
Even to this day, the PS1 Final Fantasy games are still incredible in terms of graphics.

the PS1 had me at that t-rex demo. That was epic for the time. Everything since then has been evolutionary....ha...get it, evolution...dinosaurs

Oh forget it.

Minato-Namikaze4078d ago

@jaqen is that a elfman reference? lol

HarryMasonHerpderp4078d ago

Yes! the T-rex demo was awesome I loved that stuff as a kid. I can remember playing it on a demo that came with the PS1. Along with some fish thing underwater. Oh man you've just proper got me going on a nostalgia trip!

TBH, I think most gamers don't give a shit about facial expressions. I never once looked at a video game character and was like wow, their face....is so real looking.

TheOneWhoIsTornApart4078d ago

It's not about the face looking real its about the faces ability to show emotion.

Ezz20134078d ago (Edited 4078d ago )

after reading your comment

Either I'm missing something or these three people replying are overreacting to a weak burn.

Maybe you don't care about how good the facial expressions are, but you'd probably care if all characters ran around with a blank expression on their faces. Maybe some or even many won't understand the amount of work that goes into creating the detailed expressions, but they will get more immersed in the game without even being aware of such techniques.

shadowst174078d ago (Edited 4078d ago )

Depends on the game, a game like heavy rain can definitely use facial expression to show the emotion as for a game like call of duty wouldn't. You should play LA Noire, if you don't go 'wow look at those faces, then there is something wrong with you.

Ezz20134078d ago (Edited 4078d ago )

did you see or played uncharted games
god of war 3/ascension

and did you also see the last of us new trailer and beyond two souls ?!

those games have some of the best facial expression in gaming history

EDIT: @ilive
no biggy my friend
i just suck at English
not my first language

ILive4078d ago

@EEZ2013

In that instance, you are suppose to use the word see as opposed to saw. This is just for future reference, I am not trying to be an ass.

violents4077d ago

I totally care about facial expressions, in real life like 80% of communication is non verbal(ie facial expressions and body language) This type of graphical detail isnt just so things look pretty, there is a depth of emotion that you just cant get to without detailed and realistic facial espressions and proper body language.

pupunoob4077d ago

LA Noire made me go WTF when I saw the facial expressions. It was so good.

Zefros4077d ago (Edited 4077d ago )

I tyhink it depends on what game you are playing. like Beyond: two souls will be all about delivering emotions, in this part facial expressions are really important. But in games like cod and bf, i wouldn't give a two shit flying fu*k.
